Hope Is Not a Strategy: How Great Leaders Build Real Accountability

Rate this book
The best schools embrace accountability—they don't run from it.

You've got strong teachers. A solid plan. Deep belief in your students. So why are you still getting inconsistent results? Why do some teachers thrive while others struggle with the same expectations?

Make no Accountability isn’t the enemy of great culture—it’s what creates it.

In Hope Is Not a Strategy, Dr. Brandi Chin reveals how to build systems in which teachers ask for feedback instead of avoiding it, standards raise themselves, and teams protect accountability instead of resenting it. Dr. Chin’s approach has helped hundreds of leaders eliminate the exhausting cycle of retraining and reexplaining the same expectations. Her "secret sauce" has many ingredients, but accountability is the fundamental factor that brings everything together. Learn how to build a culture of commitment where consistency isn't hoped for, it's guaranteed.

Hope is not a strategy. Accountability is.

I am a senior executive in a business to business company. The title of this book caught my eye, but I wasn't confident how well the author would be able to take an approach that centered in academia and make it broadly applicable. I was really pleasantly surprised. The frameworks and examples in this book are very transferable across industries, leadership levels, and situations. It is clear and not overly heady. And it is set up in a way where you can leverage it to come back to again as a reference material overtime. this is a great book. I have already recommended it to colleagues and I expect I will continue to do so!

The VERB framework breaks down an important complex topic for all leaders. There are several examples to leverage and it's a practical guide for any leader who leads team. Highly recommend this text as it feels a gap in the literature.
