A Dash of Demon

Rate this book
A cozy and spicy monster romance with a human heroine who reclaims her independence and identity, and a demon hero who’s more than happy to worship every part of her, inside and out.

LILAH

What twenty-seven-year-old woman goes camping alone in the British Columbia mountains, thinking it’s a good way to “find herself again”? Me, apparently. In an act of defiance after getting out of a crappy marriage to a narcissist.

I was foraging for berries when I came upon a badly injured fox. I didn’t stop to think about the danger to me. I’m a veterinary assistant, it’s second nature to help animals. So that’s what I did. Then the fox changed into a man, right in front of my eyes.

Turns out, I didn’t save a fox, I saved a fox shifter. But he was still in rough shape, so I made sure he got home—higher up the mountain, to a town I didn’t know existed because no humans do. In Fate’s Falls, I was welcomed by his pack and everyone else. “Everyone else” primarily being monsters. All shapes, sizes, and types, and all super nice. So I stayed. Got a job working for the local veterinarian, a monster with a hyper-sensitive sniffer and a mouth with zero filter.

Then I walked into the local bakery and fell instantly head over heels with a towering, dark-red hell demon who makes the best scones on earth. Possibly in any realm. Now, if only Amazra would see me as more than his number-one scone-addicted customer, my life would be fairy-tale perfect.

* * * * *A DASH OF DEMON is a cozy and spicy romance set in Karla Doyle’s Fate’s Falls monster romance series. Expect a human heroine who reclaims her independence and identity, and the reformed hell-born demon who’s more than happy to worship every part of her, inside and out.

A Dash of Demon is a standalone set in the Fate's Falls universe. While it's not necessary to read the other books, I can see how it would enrich the experience because of the colorful and charming cast of side characters. Told from both pov, Lilah is a newly-divorced woman on a mission to "find herself" and Amazra is a demon baker in the town she fatefully finds herself in. While the attraction is instant, the two struggle with their own issues but, of course, it all gets resolved. I love a cozy spicy romance where the biggest issue is communication and overcoming your own demons. The book is short and sweet, with a green-flag mc.

I giggled, swooned, and fanned myself repeatedly through this book. I loved Lilah so much. And Amazra was so hot! Clearly that guy knows how to handle some buns 😉. This was such a fun and spicy read. I’ve never read anything like this, let alone this author. But you had better believe, I’ll be reading a lot more ❤️

Sometimes healing doesn’t look like therapy or self-help books.
Sometimes it looks like a solo camping trip, a rescued fox… and a demon who bakes the best scones in any realm.

A Dash of Demon by Karla Doyle is cozy, heartfelt, and delightfully spicy — a monster romance that feels less about fantasy and more about rediscovering your worth after someone tried to take it from you.

Lilah isn’t running toward love. She’s running toward herself.

Freshly divorced from a narcissistic husband who chipped away at her confidence piece by piece, she heads into the British Columbia mountains hoping to remember who she used to be. When she hears an injured fox and instinctively helps — because that’s who she is, a veterinary assistant who can’t ignore suffering — she has no idea she’s about to stumble into Fate’s Falls.

A hidden town of monsters.

And somehow… it feels like home.

One of the most beautiful parts of this story is how accepted Lilah feels in Fate’s Falls. Surrounded by shifters, demons, elves, and creatures of every variety, she isn’t judged or diminished. She’s welcomed. Valued. Seen. After a marriage where she felt small, that contrast hits deeply.

Then there’s Amazra.

A towering, dark-red hell-born demon who owns the local bakery and radiates quiet devotion. He’s powerful but gentle, intense but patient — the kind of hero who doesn’t just want the heroine… he reveres her. Every bakery visit brings them closer, each interaction layered with slow-burn tension and quiet admiration.

What makes their romance so satisfying isn’t just attraction — it’s affirmation. Amazra doesn’t try to fix Lilah. He simply sees her strength long before she fully sees it again herself. Watching her rebuild her confidence while falling for someone who celebrates every part of her is incredibly rewarding.

The town itself adds warmth and charm — quirky side characters, found-family vibes, and a cozy supernatural setting that feels magical without being overwhelming. It’s fantasy, yes — but grounded in very human emotions.

If you love:

curvy heroine reclaiming her identity

devoted monster heroes

cozy small-town supernatural settings

slow-burn connection with meaningful emotional growth

sweet, spicy romance with heart

this book delivers comfort and heat in perfect balance.

Because sometimes the bravest thing you can do after heartbreak…
is believe you deserve to be adored exactly as you are.

Lilah is escaping her life and trying to find herself after finding her divorce and coming upon a shifter that she saves he brings her to his town. She is taken aback by all the different shifters that live in they small town but at the same time has never felt more welcome or accepted for who she really is. Lilah never thought she would find someone else that makes her want to try again. Amara is taken aback by this woman that makes everything in him stand up and take notice. Every moment that she comes into his bakery has them growing closer and closer. You can't help but fall in love with this couple and how they come together. I so enjoyed every moment of this read. I highly recommend this book!!!

Starting over
This was a sweet, slow burn story set in Fate’s Falls. Lilah is starting over after a divorce, trying to find the confident woman she once was. Finding a magically protected community of non-humans was unexpected but very welcome. Her attraction to Amazra, the demon baker was instantaneous; and although he’s straight forward and direct, she’s never quite sure if he feels the same way.
This is full of healing and self re-discovery, longing and learning, miscommunication, humour, emotion and spice. I love the mix of strange yet wonderful characters and the easy manner in which the town accepts people that find their way through the barrier.

This was an entertaining addition to the series and it brings together Lilah, a gal looking for a fresh start after getting a divorce from her narcissistic ex, and Amazra, a hell born demon...and baker. Yep, it's that fun! Amazra is shocked at how connected he feels to her and I loved how different they were. She's full of humour and he's just so stoic. A lovely opposites attract theme that made it fun to watch them learn to adjust to each other and work their way to a fab and steamy HEA. All together, this was a Lol! read that I couldn't put down until I hit the end :D

'Expect a curvy human heroine who reclaims her independence and identity after divorcing a narcissistic jerk, and a hell-born demon who’s more than happy to worship every part of her, inside and out.'

The characters were so very appealing and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

Sloooooooow Burn Soooooooooo Good
Lilah gets a fresh start in Fate’s Falls, but what she really wants is Amazra, a hell-born demon who is so literal that he misses all the subtle signs. These two build the tension for months, through frustration and mis-communication, that when finally, FINALLY, they align, it’s near combustible. I really enjoyed the build (and Lilah’s own rebuild) in this story. Amazra was such a unique male character - he was so literal and dense (he can’t help it, he’s created that way!) that it gave a unique perspective. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

For all the trouble Lilah's friends go through to get her and Amazra together, they certainly take their sweet time. It's a slow burn romance filled with lots of understandings though different species will cause that for sure. I loved the fox healing at the beginning and the open opening of Lilah to a whole new world. This is a cute story and I love the town it's set in and getting to see people from previous stories set in this town.

Good story

I liked Lilah, her insecurities & how she got past them. I love the thought of having such a peaceful & good place like Fate's Falls. I loved Amazra's earnestness, his direct way of speaking, and the way he just worships Lilah. What I did not like was them not speaking about their feelings to one another for MONTHS. Almost to the point that Lilah gives up ever having a romantic relationship with Amazra. For such a short hook, that part felt really drawn out. Overall, though, cute story, good spice, and lovely romance.

I've read a couple others from this series, and for novellas they are always well written without feeling rushed. This one is no exception and is possibly my favourite.
I love the differences between Lilah and Amazra - her humour and nervous over sharing, with his serious, stoic, lack of emotion. It's a great dynamic and I very much enjoyed watching them circle around eachother and learn from and adjust to eachother.

Lilah ends up in Fate’s Falls because her life is at a turning point and she chose to help an injured animal that is actually a shifter. Amazra is a demon baker who is also super literal and misses anything that is not direct. The build up is a slow build that ends up being something truly beautiful. Their HEA is truly something special and I loved it.

Fate's Falls Is The Place For Love

Lilah is one lucky woman to stumble across a fox who ended up being a shifter that showed her a world that, in the end, is exactly where she needed to be. To not only find new friends but also new love in Amazra after she got away from her ex-husband. Fate's Falls is a place anyone would be glad to call home.

Cute

This was cute and steamy (more towards the end). The way the demon, Amazra, takes everything literal and didn't do emotions before meeting Lilah was funny especially trying to figure out slang. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading more of the Fate's Falls series.

Amzra and Lilah are awesome. I always love the monsters that are so literal and Karla always makes me laugh with the sayings and statements they make. Seriously try explaining to a very literal 11yr old why you just cracked up over a demon not understanding an inuendo. Lol.
