At around two hours on audio, The Woman Next Door was a quick psychological thriller about two neighbours who are both hiding something and neither quite knows if they can trust the other.
Meena clearly seems to be hiding something, but then there’s Ada, the nosy neighbour who takes a little too much interest in what’s going on next door. I thought Louise Jensen did a good job of shifting my suspicions between them. One minute I was wondering what Ada was really up to, and the next I was thinking, hang on, maybe I’ve got this completely wrong and Meena is the one I should be watching.
I also liked the idea running through the story of the lies we tell to protect ourselves and what happens when those lies start catching up with us. There are some good twists packed into such a short story, and while there isn’t a huge amount of time to dig particularly deep, it was a fun little thriller to pass a couple of hours.
Everyone has a story, don't they? But not everyone likes to share them.
A perfectly exciting bite-sized thriller; a great introduction for new readers to the genre, or a fun quick reading session for thriller lovers. Two neighbours, both hiding something, both suspecting the other while we wait to see who is hiding what and how they're connected full of brilliantly crafted tension. Both characters were set up quickly, distinctly - despite only knowing them a short while, you get a real feel for them as we watch them watching each other. An excellent twisty, anxiety-inducing high stakes little thriller.
A quick short story from Louise Jensen which turned out to be an unexpectedly good read. What made this so gripping were the alternating first person narrators, and an intriguing hidden layer of secrets.
When Meena moves in to Ivy Cottage, her next door neighbour Ada is watching. Meena can’t help feeling there’s something off about Ada. Ada knows Meena is hiding something. Two Neighbours. Two Secrets. One chance at survival. What secrets lie next door?
With twists and turns aplenty, this short story is likely to appeal to suspense lovers.
