Throne Hunters 4

Rate this book
The Twilight Crown has been stolen. Flutic's political order lies in ruins—and the Dungeon calls once more.

Harald's strike against Lord Gorkin shattered the city's fragile balance. Now, branded a murderer and bearer of the most coveted Artifact in Flutic, he and his companions are hunted by the Houses' deadliest Silver-ranked killers. Forced to flee into the depths, the Throne Hunters descend through shadow and madness.

To survive, they must emerge stronger, stranger—and far more dangerous.

But power brings no safety. Every Throne ascended, every Artifact claimed, every enemy slain, draws Harald closer to a destiny that terrifies the Houses and tempts the Abyss.

Betrayal awaits in the city's heart. The game is no longer one of survival—it is one of dominion.

And Harald has begun to play for keeps.

Not only Phil Tuckers best offering yet from start to finish, but the 4th installment of this series has become my favorite single fantasy novel and the point in which Phil Tucker becomes my favorite author, beating out the likes of Steven Erickson, Janny Wurts, and R Scott Bakker.

Quality: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Distinguished)

Pro's

I listened to this in audiobook and I noticed no continuity errors in the manuscript. Very, very clean, professional work from Mr. Tucker. The narrative in this one feels like a thousand page series finale with its deft turns and ballsy twists. It starts and ends with very high tension and excitement, while the middle consisted of some fantastic character arcs and developments. I cannot stress enough how much happens in this book.

On the themes side, we get some big picture views on the corruption of power, socialist values, and loving friendship.

Con's

Nothing major. It just doesn't quite reach the level of prose, depth and narrative roundness you might get from some of the biggest names in literature. I would caution Phil to not use so many instances of "How are you holding up?" To lubricate and introduce his cross delving-team character dialogue sections. It is a little bit repetitive though it started to feel charming by the end of this one.

Enjoyment: ⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (obsessed)

This is the most fun reading experience I've ever had. Everyone in my life is tired of hearing me talk about this already.

Recommendation: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Read it yesterday)

If you read fantasy and haven't read this series, here's your notice. The genre has a new king of fun.

Conclusion

I'm immediately jumping into Phil's Patreon to get caught up on the series. If you are cautioned to read an unfinished series, I would recommend Phil as a very dependable and trustworthy author with an extreme work ethic and infinite void full of ideas. He will also be finishing the series in 2026, so now is a great time to jump in and pace yourself till the finish.

Overall score: 4.66⭐ (Rounded to 5 star) (Masterpiece)

Will comeback later with a proper review but had to say I wish Harald got with Nessa instead or even Anna. Sam is just to much of an obvious choice especially with their shared history. She just act to motherly for my liking and with her literally being his slave make the relationship dubious at most like Stockholm syndrome. Honestly I felt like the entire series was pushing towards the Nessa route then turn a sharp curve to dive all in with Sam. If we wanted dubious relationships should’ve done Sam and Vic now that would’ve been interesting especially with their clashing personalities.

the best installment so far

If you have made it this far into this series then there isn’t much for me to tell. I will say this is my favorite book in the series to date. I’ll even go so far as to retract one of my criticisms of the previous books. I originally felt the story became choppy at times. However, as the story has progressed I have grown to appreciate that intentional nature of this. It fits with the characters perilous situations and reflects their imperfect ability to deal with them. All in all a great read.

Phil does it again!

Fantastic book. Grips you from the beginning and doesn’t stop! The battle between good and evil, corruption of man, and the people trying to make it all better. Love it! I know Phil has been pumping these out but I cannot wait for the next one!! Keep it up sir we love it!

Another fantastic installation to Throne Hunters

I can’t believe this series doesn’t have 10x more reviews than it does. It easily competes with some of the most notable LitRPGs and Progression Fantasy series. I hope these keep coming at the speed they have been, they are even better than the Immortal Great Souls books!

Phil's done it again!

Every time I think the plot has been shaken as hard as it can, Harald and co find a way to wrestle heaven and earth and prove me wrong, all while maintaining reasonable consequences and outcomes for the actions as presented. Loved this book, love this series, thanks Phil.

Well. Things went to heck in a hand basket in Flutic.

We all knew it was coming after the last book. And it did! After trying to avoid it, the houses are all fighting each other, but we got a deeper insight into the dungeon and the war there. And a few surprises as well! Also progression, which is always appreciated!

Even better

Not sure how Phil does it, but this book is even better than the last. Harold and the gang experience more growth, character development, we learn more about the world/broader conflict, and there are some twists/turns. Highly recommend the series to all!

Another great entry in the series, but I will say that the timeline is starting to move so fast that I think this entire book encompassed like three days, which feels a bit extreme.
