He’s the last cowboy she wants to ask for help. He’s the only one offering a chance…

Never in her wildest dreams did equine specialist Maclyn Kane imagine she’d beg her ex for help five years after he tanked her shot at her dream job. But once again she’s out of work with two horses and a dog to feed, and the independent cowgirl can’t pass up any offers—even humiliating and grudging ones.

Rancher Trev Matthews is desperate to find someone to help him through calving season, so when Maclyn, the woman who wrecked his truck and lied about it at the end of their rodeo careers responds to his job posting, he reluctantly hires her—temporarily. As soon as he finds someone with experience, she’s out. Or so he thinks.

Time supposedly heals all wounds. It also can provide clarity and proof he was too quick to judge. But how can the former rodeo star convince the woman who refuses to depend on anyone except herself to trust him and that temporary can become permanent?

Review of advance copy

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by Tule Publishing via BookFunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 stars.
A lovely romantic story with complex, relatable characters, “Taming the Wild Cowboy”, by Jeannie Watt, is about surface appearances, misunderstandings, bias, and how honesty might be the best choice.
I loved how Trev and Mac have a significant common backstory, full of deception, and how gradually things are clarified. I found this process really well done.
Mac is a compelling character, a woman trying her best to survive and succeed after a series of unfortunate events put her in a difficult trajectory.
I liked her courage, determination and grit, the way she fights and carries on against obstacles and wrong assumptions.
Her fears and insecurities make her human, relatable.
Trev is a steady, solid, honorable hero.
The attraction and chemistry while working in the Tree Fork Ranch are interesting to watch.
Wade is a wonderful character, as are Trev’s brothers.
The animals are also cute.

Engaging story. Nice variety of characters. The female protagonist is quite a capable woman. She has had to endure trying and lying situations. My lack of five stars is due to my personal preferences. Not a fan of the "f" word or intimate scenes. I do skip those. I will probably read the next one in the series knowing those things will be included, but I enjoy Jennie Watt's writing otherwise. Thanks to Booksprout for providing a copy. My review is voluntary.
