Author of over seventy books so far. Living on the beautiful west coast of Scotland with my husband, twin daughters and a cat called Mavis, although I am originally from Lancashire in the north of England.
My tastes in all things are eclectic, which extends to my writing. Although I primarily write crime books - especially gangland thrillers - I also write gothic historical romance and fantasy. I publish on Amazon Kindle and some of my novels are available in paperback too. I also have a traditional publishing contract with Boldwood Books.
When I'm not writing - which isn't very often - I enjoy reading Daphne Du Maurier, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, MR James and the Brontes, among many others. I also enjoy swimming, walking and spending time with my family.
I read the dividing line series right before reading this book, the main characters are Brodie and Cass who were in 2 of the DL books and compared to them I found it rather tame. How I can say that when you have serial killers and nasty people aplenty in this book but it just didn't have the same edge for me. Brodie and Cass are private investigators and are on a case and become caught up in a serial killers reign on the city as well as their own case. It did keep you guessing un till the end .
Love the Brodie\cass on\off attraction but their partnership is great and brodies soh is comical. Gritty witty crime of unfinished business family loyalties tested beyond means has you booked from the off. Absolutely love t his author and the characters jump off the page at you. Lots of twists and turns soon won't spoil it!
Fabulous book great story about a sadistic family, brodie and cass work so well together they seem to bounce against each other.Brodie is a bloodhound and won't rest untill he has solved the puzzle.I am so looking forward to book 2,and can highly recomend this great book.Well worth 5*
Had me hooked from start to finish, first book in series of Unfinished Business. You really get to know the characters especially Brodie and love the fact he's from Glasgow as being Scottish myself I am reading some Scottish words I haven't heard for years.
I couldn't put this book down , full of twists and keeps you guessing all the way through , now to look for another book by the same author.....and yes I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a murder mystery
What a fantastic read once again heather atkinson nailed it couldn't put the book down and so looking forward to book 2 in the unfinished business series
Another brilliant book from one of my favourite author's have not had a book that I read that was not brilliant always a good story and twist at the end .Loved it
I have been a fan of Heather Atkinson books after reading the Breaking away series and the Dividing line series and was really looking forward to reading this latest release, after being contacted by Heather and being offered a review copy, I was really made up to be given the chance to read it before its release.
Unfinished business is the first book in a new series. And I was praying it was just going to be as good as the other series i have read by Heather.
From early on in this book getting to know the characters, It was Brodie and Cass and the connection between them both that I liked the most. These two character really made this story for me.
The other main characters are Mark and his wife Sarah. I kind of started off liking her, but then she seemed to get on my nerves a little, appearing like she was becoming dependent on someone she didn't even know.
Sarah has her life thrown into turmoil when she finds things out about her husband that no one would ever want to find out about their other half. Or about anyone you know come to think of it. She is told this big secret by Brodie, the Private investigator of the firm Unfinished Business. That has apparently been hired by an unknown person to make sure Sarah finds out about her husbands past, a past that he seems to have hidden so well until now. Sarah seems to just takes on board everything that Brodie has to say, without trying to delve and find out the facts herself, this is where you feel sorry for Sarah, after all its her life that has just changed. The thing is you can't help feeling is that Sarah is holding back and maybe hiding secrets of her own. And should be doing a lot more herself to find out the truth.
I found Mark to be a difficult one to figure out. I really couldn't decide if he was innocent or guilty. Or why he kept his secrets away from his wife to start out with.
The rest of Marks family also seem to be hiding secrets. Secrets from the past, that as much as no one wants them to come out, you just know the more this story goes on, that sooner or later everything is going to come spilling out. Which is what makes you needing to carry on reading this book. I suspected everyone through this book, of holding back on what they actually knew. We have Marks mother, his twin brother and his Sister. All character I liked or hated at different parts of the book.
Brodie and his assistant Cass seem hell bent of getting to the truth, and maybe using not so legal methods of finding things out is the only way to go. These two really seem to have a great connection between them all the way through the book.
I have tried my best to do this review without giving away anything about the story line or the outcome, I found this really hard to do. But one thing you need to know about this book. is that it is well worth reading. And I am looking forward to more from this series as the series develops and grows, I just believe it is going to turn out to be a really great series.
Brilliant as always . This first book in the new series didn't disappoint with all the twists and plots - a must read . If you enjoyed the dividing line series and breaking away series you will love this new series .
Another brilliant book by Heather Atkinson. I haven't read a bad book by Heather. Love her style of writing, so glad I found this author. Looking forward to book no.2 in this series.
