Fear grips her as the heavy footsteps echo along the isolated trail path. She thought she was alone in the woods, but as a hand reaches out from the darkness to cover her mouth, she knows that nobody will hear her scream…
When Jan Pierce is reported missing, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane rush to the forest surrounding Black Rock Falls. Jenna’s heart breaks when she sees Jan’s body at the bottom of a ravine. But it’s the purplish bruising in the shape of a boot on her back that tells Jenna it was no accident. Somebody killed her.
As Jenna investigates Jan’s last movements, she learns that Jan joined a self-defense class and told her closest friends that she thought someone had followed her home one night. Was someone watching her every move, waiting for the right moment to strike?
Then another woman from the same group, Sierra Lang, is reported missing. When Jenna finds Sierra at home, her lifeless body submerged in bathwater amid clear signs of a struggle, she is certain there is a serial killer in town. With no sign of forced entry, Jenna believes Sierra knew the killer and let him in. Could it be someone known to the whole group, someone they thought was a friend?
As Jenna looks into both women’s lives, her heart races when the trail leads to someone she knows very well—someone she trusts. As a member of her own team comes under fire, Jenna is shocked to her core and desperate to get answers. Could the killer be closer than Jenna ever imagined, and can she uncover the truth before another young woman’s life is taken
Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh, Kendra Elliot and Mary Stone, this absolutely addictive serial killer thriller from USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author D.K. Hood will have you hooked from the start!
**Each Kane and Alton book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone**
What readers are saying about Look Behind You:
“I've been holding my breath since I picked this book up… I resented the time needed to eat/sleep/work as I was desperate to finish it… D.K Hood is the gift that keeps giving… a breathtaking chase… a gripping, heart-stopping story.” NetGalley reviewer, 5 stars
“I absolutely love this.” bookloversanonuk, 5 stars
Another page turner from DK Hood. Book 29 in this series and there is no sign of letting up. I have read all 29 books and always look forward to the next one. I read this in an afternoon, unable to put it down and needing to know what would happen next. There is never a lull in the story, so much action all the time.
Serial killer Central just never gets boring! Neither does the weather. This time we have torrential rain causing havoc in town, and assisting a killer to make their move. The FBI team are called into assist, this case is tricky as each victim is killed in a different way, only link is that they all attend self defence training with the team.
I loved that we got to know some of the other team members a little better this time, with everyone playing a role to solve this case. I hope that book 30 will see them working on the cold case that has come to their attention.
Always a pleasure to have the opportunity to read these books early, thank you to Bookouture for the advanced copy. Published on March 17th.
She's done it again! Loved this - so fast paced and shocking, with lots happening from the start.
I love when series authors make you start questioning the life and safety of long-standing characters, and even consider if they're the perpetrator - such edge of your seat stuff.
Looking forward to finding out more about some of the more recently added characters to the series. I can't say more about what I loved and what I'm keen to read more about without potential spoilers 😆
Thanks Debra for continuing our D.K. Hood buddy read tradition and all the book-ish chats 🙏
A great fan of D.K. Hood, I gladly reached for the latest novel in the Kane and Alton series. Hood targets her 29th story in the collection around a series of odd murders (nothing shocking for Black Rock Falls). It will take much attention to detail and determination to find the killer and stop the cycle. Hood delivers yet another gripping story.
After Jan Pierce vanishes, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy/husband Dave Kane rush to the forest for answers. It is not long afterwards that Jan’s broken body is found at the bottom of a ravine. A boot print and odd bruising on Jan’s back leads Alton and Kane to feel that this was deliberate, though they cannot surmise why someone would want to hurt her. With the investigation in full-swing, it is determined that Jan was in a self-defense class and admitted that she had an eerie feeling that she was being followed home at night. When a second woman from the class goes missing Sheriff Alton knows they have a serial killer on the loose, which is substantiated after Sierra Lang’s body is discovered. Accusations fly, including at one of Alton’s own team members. The hunt for a killer is on before another woman goes missing or worse. D.K. Hood entertains once more and keeps the series fresh.
I have long enjoyed the work of D.K. Hood and this series. The stories are quick-paced, delivering an impactful read for those who enjoy these books. The narrative flows well, as the reader stays hooked with each page. The momentum finds traction while the reader speculates about the most recent killer in Black Rock Falls. Short chapters help create that tension and Hood has mastered the art of storytelling.
Characters provide great pathways to strengthen the story. Hood has a handful of recurring faces that keep things stable, while adding those new to the scene to flavour the larger story and instill a sense of curiosity. There is some minor development for Jenna Alton and Dave Kane, but much is in the moment and related to the cases at hand. Hood had never struggled to keep the characters linked to the stories with ease.
Plot points keep the story from being too predictable, which adds something edgy and provides so much for the reader to enjoy. Surprises fuel this series well and ensures the reader is always wondering, even this far along the series. There are key aspects of advancement and some crumbs to point in the direction of future story ideas, which adds more excitement for those who await the next publication. D.K. Hood has set a pathway for many stories to come.
Kudos Madam Hood, for a twisty story I could not stop reading.
This is book #29 in the Kane & Alton series. Whilst it is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone book. I love this series and have read them all from the beginning. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are a great couple both in their police roles in Black Rock Falls and as a married couple. Black Rock Falls is more commonly known as Serial Killer Central, and we are back there for another instalment with the Sheriff and her team investigating murders of women who attend a local self-defence group.
This was another gripping read from this author and the pages flew past with a fast paced, action packed storyline. Kane & Alton are joined by their regular team and I really liked finding out more about Raven's background. The murders are coming fast and furious and the body count begins to pile up again. There are lots of suspects to choose from, and like every other book of the series, I couldn't decide who I thought it might be. I liked how the suspense is held to the end and there are plenty of twists and turns on the lead up to the reveal.
An thrilling read and I can't wait for the next book in the series. Would definitely recommend!
So I actually read this book for a change, as I was a bit impatient, and as much as I love supporting the author and the narrator by buying the audiobook, I wanted to crack on with Kane and Jenna. This book has got me quite excited, because we have quite a few different threads that need to be answered. I'm really excited to see what happens with the despicable couple with their pigs – something bad, I hope! And what will happen with Rhett and his family – hoping that is in the next book! This book will make you look at people slightly differently, because it's Black Rock Falls, and really, it is psychopath Central, and there is that lack of remorse. It's shocking. I didn’t get the person until it was too late, and when I did get there, seconds before, I was shocked and appalled. It was just a love that was a step too far, and quite delusional. I did love the spin of who it was, as it’s different to the norm – but that’s all I can say without spoiling it! I love the ending because it's always the happy ending. In terms of the epilogue, it is always happy. I just love seeing the normality of Kane and Jenna, their family, their extended family. It's light within the darkness of this world, and it gives me hope!
I have literally followed this book series since the beginning, and this is Book 29, and it’s still one of my favourite series. However, with Book 30 looming, it does make me twitchy!
I love the way DK Hood writes, and I've read all her books. She always writes in a way that keeps you hooked. She makes you want to read on, even though some chapters are longer, you still fall into the trap of just one more chapter. This is due to the way she entices you, the way she leaves you hanging, the way she encourages you to read on; it's slightly dangerous, as you fail to be able to put the book down.
How happy I was to get yet another new installment in this (and I truly cannot emphasize this enough) fantastic series. Not for a single moment have I thought that maybe it was time to bring it to an end because the best has already been done — on the contrary!!
How is that possible?
In my opinion, there are several reasons for it.
The author always manages to add a few scenes packed with chilling action, moments where you constantly hold your breath and clutch your heart because you’re so afraid something might happen to the amazing main characters — and that it could mean the end of this series.
The main characters themselves are another reason. By now, there are quite a few who play significant roles, with Jenna and Dave leading the way. Because you encounter these characters so often, a bond is created, and each time you hope they will remain unharmed. It also creates a connection between the reader and the fictional characters. For non-readers, that might sound strange and they may secretly think we’re ready for some kind of psychiatric institution, but avid readers will definitely recognize this feeling and agree with me.
Then there are the plots. The suspense and twists are always of top quality. I regularly feel the urge to look over my shoulder, even though I’m just sitting safely at home on my couch. If you can achieve that as a writer, you’re doing more than well.
So from me, once again, a wholehearted WOW in capital letters for this book. Let the next installment come soon. 5 stars.
Look Out!!!!!!! D.K. Hood has written another thrilling, gripping, addictive, and riveting read. I don't know how she writes so fast, but I am extremely thankful that she does! Look Behind You is, are you ready for this, book 29 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series!!!!! The 29th book and this series just keeps getting better and better!
A serial killer is picking off women in a self defense group that Deputy David Kane runs! The women are all vulnerable and live alone or just want to be safe. Raven, known for his dog handling skills is also helping by taking dogs from various shelters and training them to pair with women in town to help them feel safe as well. When one of the women does not show up to meet him, the search begins. Sadly, their search ends tragically.
As another victim is found, married couple - Detectives Kane and Alton, know they have a new killer on their hands. But who and why are they targeting the women in Dave's self-defense group? Jenna begins looking into the women but comes up with more questions than answers. With a little help from Jo and Carter from the FBI, the investigation ramps up as the weather works against them.
This book was a page turner from the very beginning. I always love putting on my super sleuth hat and trying my best to figure out whodunit. D.K. Hood stumped me in Look Behind You. I love it when this happens! I also loved the tension, the mystery, the suspense, the dread, and the sense of danger in this book. There is never a dull moment as the action is almost nonstop.
Another nice touch was seeing Jenna, Dave, and their team interacting in their private lives and seeing Dave and Jenna's children growing. This is a well-rounded series, and I love the blending of the personal and professional lives of the characters.
Wonderfully written, well thought out, tense, addictive, and had to put down!
Another thrilling buddy read with Bec (becbingesbooks)! Please read her review as well to get her thoughts on Look Behind You!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
without quoting other review, write a book review for Look Behind You (Detectives Kane and Alton Book 29) An edge-of-your-seat serial killer thriller with a heart-stopping twist by D.K. Hood
D.K. Hood’s Look Behind You, the 29th installment in the Detectives Kane and Alton series, delivers exactly what longtime readers expect: relentless tension, high-stakes investigation, and a villain who feels uncomfortably real. Yet this entry also sharpens the emotional edge of the series, pushing its central characters into more vulnerable territory.
The novel wastes no time dropping the reader into danger. A series of chilling crimes unfolds with calculated precision, and the sense that the killer is always one step ahead creates a constant undercurrent of dread. Hood excels at pacing here—short chapters and shifting perspectives make it difficult to step away, as each scene seems to end on a note that demands just one more page.
This book balances plot and characters. Kane and Alton are not just chasing clues; they’re navigating the psychological toll of their work. Their partnership feels lived-in and authentic, with moments of doubt, strain, and trust that add weight to the investigation. The stakes feel personal, not just professional.
The antagonist is particularly well-crafted—disturbing without being over-the-top, and unpredictable in a way that keeps the narrative from becoming formulaic. Hood gradually reveals just enough to build suspense while holding back key details for a late twist that genuinely lands. It’s the kind of reveal that recontextualizes earlier events without feeling forced.
If there’s a minor drawback, it’s that readers new to the series may not fully appreciate the depth of the protagonists’ history. While the story stands on its own, some emotional beats carry more impact if you’ve followed Kane and Alton over previous books. Still, the central mystery is strong enough to engage newcomers.
Overall, Look Behind You is a gripping, fast-paced thriller that reinforces why this series has endured. It’s tense, dark, and emotionally grounded, with a conclusion that lingers just long enough to make you glance over your shoulder—exactly what a serial killer thriller should do.
Title: Look Behind You Author: D. K. Hood Series: Detectives Alton and Kane #29 Publisher: Bookouture Genre: Crime Thriller Pub Date: March 17, 2026 My Rating: 4.5 Stars Pages: 258
If Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband Deputy David Kane are new to you, here is some background info ~ they live in Black Rock Falls and have an adorable son, Tauri who they adopted. Tauri has American Indian heritage. Alton and Kane are very proud of him and support that he knows as much as possible about the culture. They now have another son Baby Jackson and wonderful dog Duke. Although I did not read the earlier books in this series, I did know Jenna and David are both in ‘Witness Protection’ and have changed their identity both with a changed appearance with a new face as well as new names.
This story starts when Deputy David Kane stared self-defense classes especially for women who live alone. Several of the deputies are also helping Deputy Johnny Raven also trains dogs. One day he mentions that one of students Jan Pierce was supposed to stop by for a training run with her dog but was a no-show. So they do some checking and find that Jan wanted to ‘face her fears’ and was planning on running to Raven’s home and not take her car.- which Deputy Raven discouraged.
They start searching the forest surrounding Black Rock Falls and with the help of search dogs they find Jan’s body at the bottom of a ravine. When she is taken to the medical examiner Jenna takes a closer looks at her body she notice a bruise in the shape of a boot on her back which tells her it wasn’t an accident. Somebody killed her. Later there are other deaths of young women, who also have been attending the same self-defense classes. It appears Black Rock Falls has another serial killer only this MO is different every time. Might this be connected to someone attending the classes or even someone from the Sheriff’s Department?
As always this story was action packet. Thankfully it was a quick read so that I can breathe normally again! I am a D. K. Hood and Alton and Kane fan. Looking forward to #30
A Big Thank You to NetGalley and Bookouture for this eGalley. Publishing Release Date scheduled for March 17, 2025.
Serial Killer Central has been quiet for a couple of months. They should have known it was the calm before storm, but I guess one can only dream.
A group of women are taking self-defense classes in Black Rock Falls, and they are being picked off, one by one. The killer is ruthless and all over the place. One thing is sure, and that is the single ladies of Black Rock Falls are not safe.
As is usual when I start a Kane and Alton book, I fall into it headfirst without coming up for air. I was completely engrossed in this book as soon as I completed the first chapter. This chilling mystery/police procedural is filled with many twists and thrills, some of which I never saw coming. The author misleads you quite frequently. Just when you think you have it figured out, she blows another hole in whatever theory you think is correct. Scratch another suspect off your list and start over.
I adore this series. The characters make this series. The dream team of local law enforcement, along with their FBI buddies are top notch, and all of them are so likable. However, you want to stay on the right side of the law because they will hunt you down and make you wish you had stayed on the right side of the law.
There were some scary moments where I was holding my breath. This is book 29 in this series, and somehow the books just keep getting better. Nothing stale here. This is another blue ribbon winner in the series.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When Jan Rice is reported missing, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her Deputy David Kane rush into the forest surrounding Black Rock Falls. Jenna's heart breaks when she sees Jan's body at the bottom of the ravine. But its the purple bruising in the shape of a boot on her back that tells Jenna it was no accident. Somebody killed her. As Jenna investigates Jan's last movements, she learned Jan had joined a self-defence class and told her closest friends that she thought that someone had followed her home that night. Was someone watching her every move, waiting for the right moment to strike? Then another woman from the group, Sierra Land, is reported missing....
Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team are investigating a spate of women being murdered and they all went to the same self-defence group. All the team are back along with Jo and Carter. We also get a new character and I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop and progress on a new career relationship.
As usual, we get plenty of suspects to choose from. I can never guess who the culprit is as they come as a surprise in every book in this wonderful series. I was quickly pulled into this story and read it in one sitting. There are twists to keep you guessing, the pace is fast and here were some surprises along the way.

The twenty ninth book in this brilliant long running series & I’m still waiting for each book, whilst it’s easily read as a stand alone I also love how the main characters have changed & grown. I love the dynamics between David & Jenna. Another edge of the seat case & I was loathe to put it down & read it in two sittings. Great characters, fast pace & some surprises as well as twists & turns. Roll on book thirty I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book in a great series
oh man catching up with jenna and dave and their brilliant crew is always a good place to be...... though living in their town is a challenge for anyone knowing its killer central
this book finds us seeing a group of single women taking self defense classes though i believe some of the women were using to find themselves a man and they werent fussy if they were married poor dave.... lmao
so when the call came out for a missing woman from the defense class it was all action stations she was due to do some more training with her soon to be dog but the search found her and she wouldnt be getting her dog ......
when the next one from the defense group was found dead nobody wanted to see a pattern but it was becoming obvious that someone was targetting the women but why...... and could the answer be one of jenna work colleagues.... not a thought jenna really wanted....
i love this series and catching up with jenna and dave is like coming home and seeing relatives or close friends no matter that its right in the middle of killer central....
looking forward to the next book in this great series
Another wild and chilling return to Black Rock Falls. You’d think that joining a self-defense class might make the women in town feel safer, but in this story it only highlights how dangerous things can really become. When Jan Pierce is found dead and another woman from the same group turns up murdered, Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane realize they may be dealing with a serial killer hiding in plain sight.
The investigation moves quickly and keeps the tension high as Jenna digs into the victims’ lives and begins to suspect that the killer might be someone the group trusted. The possibility that the threat could be close to home adds an extra layer of suspense and keeps the pages turning.
The characters remain consistent with the rest of the series. Jenna and Kane are as determined and compelling as ever. The writing flows easily, making the story fast and engaging to read. The plot works well and delivers the creepy atmosphere and unsettling personalities you expect from a good serial killer thriller.
Black Rock Falls seems to attract more than its share of trouble, but that’s part of what makes this series so addictive. Overall, this is a solid and entertaining addition to the series that fans will enjoy.
This story is like being on a roller coaster ride: fast paced, thrilling and at the end has you ready to go for the next one. Detectives Dave Kane and Jenna Alton join in the investigation for a missing woman who was suppose to show up at Deputy Raven's to work with a potential protection dog he was training. Due to an incoming storm, they ask for help from their FBI friends Carter and Jo who are in town. Along with the medical examiner Wolfe and his daughter Emily, they try to find clues as to what exactly happened. Before long, another murder has happened which makes them wonder if they have another serial killer in town. As the race to figure out what these women had in common, they are also dealing with the storm elements which makes investigations ever more difficult. An added thread to the story is the beginning of a potential relationship between Wolfe's daughter, Julie, and her boyfriend Rhett. There is a mystery around his childhood that I suspect we will resolved in the next book. Even after solving this mystery, there are more secrets for Dave, Jenna and their friends to uncover. I can't wait.
Look Behind You is book 29 in the fantastic Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood. When women attending a self defense class start getting killed, who could be behind it? It's as if the killer knows where the women will be and when they'll be there. How is that possible? The class they're all taking is taught by members of the sheriff's department. As the investigation proceeds all signs point to someone Sheriff Jenna Alton knows and trusts. It's not possible, right? Will Jenna and Dave be able to prove that their friend and colleague is innocent or has a killer been lurking right under their noses? Look Behind You is a book that will have you doing just that as the victims feel they're being watched before the killer strikes. I read this book in one day as it's so chilling you can't put it down! The shocking twist at the end made this one of my favorite books in the series! I rate Look Behind You 5 stars with my highest recommendation. The book will be out on March 17 and as always can be read as a standalone if you haven't read the series before. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Look Behind You in exchange for a fair review. #LookBehindYou
Stunningly good! Somehow, it’s number 29 in this excellent series, and it is as good and as fresh as number 1. This series never gets stale or samey. It's amazing how the author manages to provide new, clever, and original ways to commit murder while creating a gripping, intense read. It's great to be back in Black Rock Falls, AKA, serial killer central, with Kane, Alton and the rest of this cast of characters who now feel like friends. The main plot follows the deaths of young women, whose only obvious connection is the self-defence classes that they attend. As usual, the weather provides a challenging backdrop to the investigations adding to the atmosphere. The sub plot is a joy. We catch up with all the characters' lives and not only has the author expanded the ‘family’, but that expansion brings with it a whole new case, this time a cold case, the solving of which we have to look forward to in the next installments I'm sure. While this brilliant read works perfectly well as a standalone if you are new to the series I urge you to read them all and I envy you the binge read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
When one member of a self defence class organised by law enforcement officers is murdered, sheriff Jenna Alton and deputy Dave Kane are on the case. With more murders and a historic case to solve, FBI agents Jo and Carter join the effort.
Book 29, but this series never gets old. Each book follows a similar pattern, but the suspense is always held right up until the last and always with a sting in the tail as to whodunnit. These characters are so familiar to me now, I really enjoy reading about them. In this book I’ve enjoyed seeing more of Julie Wolfe and her budding relationship with Rhett. Along with Emily and Raven being perfect together. I’m already looking forward to her next one and hope Rhett’s story can be investigated! I highly recommend this whole series, but this book could be read standalone. The author writes in a way that keep me turning the pages, addictive storylines and always with a cliffhanger that keeps me wanting more!
Welcome back to serial killer central where book 29, Look Behind You, serves up potentially more than one case for the team to solve.
When the women of the self-defense classes start to die in what meant to look like accidents but easily identified as murder based on the forensic evidence the team try to understand what is motivating this killer. Along the way, one of their own ends up in hospital after a visit to a potential suspect, sparking a new investigation into what prompted the attack on the deputy.
Rhett, Julie Wolf’s friend has finally arrived in town to find out what he inherited from his family and to uncover what happened to his parents. All stories he has been given in the past to their deaths have differed, a visit to the town lawyer changes everything and is a nice lead into a new case for a future book for the team.
All the gang is in the book, including FBI agents Jo and Carter and in what I feel like is tradition, I love the epilogue is the crew coming together to enjoy each other’s company over a meal.
I love this series and I love that the author has introduced a book spanning mystery involving Rhett, Julie's friend. It's a type of cold case and has me intrigued. And I know this will give me a chance to learn more about this fairly new character. And since the team knows a little bit about what is going on, they will chip in trying to help him figure out what happened to his family and why. I hope I don't have to wait long for that book.
But this book's case was surprising and layered. A missing woman that turns into multiple missing women. Of course a reason to take the helicopter up in the wind. Jenna finding trouble. A plethora of reasons to keep me glued to the page from start to finish. The pace didn't let up and I always love watching how the team works together to piece everything together.
I loved that I got to see a little more about Raven. That is one of the best parts of the ongoing series, the character growth. For the new characters, what secret do they have that has brought them to Black Rock Falls.
Jan wants to conquer her fears. She is taking self defence classes, is preparing to get a guard dog, and is finally feeling positive. She heads into the forest ad is ruthlessly targeted by a killer... Look Behind You is the 29th book in the Kane and Alton series of thrillers. Jan is reported missing and the sheriff and her team swing into action ahead of a storm. They discover the body in a ravine and initially believe that it could have been an accident before finding evidence of foul play. The storm acts as an extra character, hindering the recovery of the body as well as the subsequent investigation. Kane and Alton and their team are frequently pushing their bodies and equipment to the limits and placing themselves in danger. This is underpinned by the fast pace of the narrative which heightens the tension. There is an additional plot thread about new character Rhett’s parents who were possibly murdered many years ago. This plotline was not concluded so I assume will be in next book (because I want to know the truth!) Look Behind You is a tense serial killer thriller.
This is book #29 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series, but is perfectly fine as a standalone.
This book takes place in Black Rock Falls which is dubbed as serial killer central despite the beautiful scenery. This book starts with the murder of Jan Pierce and escalates from there. Detectives Kane and Alton race against time to find clues and secure the crime scene against an incoming storm that is predicted to be bad. This adds to the sense of urgency of the book and the fast-paced storyline.
This book had me holding my breath during a helicopter scene and quickly turning the pages to find out who the murderer was (I had no clue and didn’t guess correctly.) I especially liked how it delved a little into the secondary characters lives and I look forward to reading more of this series! I also can't wait to go back and read the rest of the books in the series.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
Back in Killer Central looking over our shoulders as Jenna, Kane and the Sheriffs Dept realize they have another serial killer, one who is tracking single woman from a defense class that the Sheriff Dept is running. That in itself is a whoa moment. How crazy can this person be to taunt them like that, or is it a member we are not aware of? So many roads to travel. Then we have the nasty weather, torrential rains and flooding. Jo and Carter are here and we really dig in more to the backgrounds of each of the members in Black Falls. I really appreciate that! I appreciate receiving my advanced copy and to be able to share my honest thoughts and opinions. We also have a couple surprises and lots of catch our breath moments. Love this series. #LookBehindYou #KaneandAlton #D.K.Hood #Bookouture #NetGalley
Another brilliant crime thriller in one of my favourite series. When a woman is found dead out on a trail, Jenna and Kane have a difficult situation to manage to retrieve her body. With a nasty storm whipping up, they need Carter’s helicopter skills to help them. When a second woman is found dead, they realise they had both been attending the self defence classes being run by Jenna’s team. Jo, Carter and Raven are on hand to help with the investigation but after another body is found submerged in the river in her vehicle, Jo and Jenna end up getting swept away and injured. I liked the new character Rhett, and look forward to the investigation into his parent’s deaths. This is a great read and a series that I’d highly recommend. Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
Just when you think it’s safe to venture to Black Rock Falls, another killer is on the loose and they’re targeting women who want to protect themselves!
This crazed killer has upped the ante though for the Sheriff’s team. There is no DNA nor fingerprints but there is no MO!!! How do you catch a killer who keeps changing the rules?!
I galloped through Look Behind You. The pace is as it always is with these books, fast with little breathers when Jenna and Dave go home to their boys. But it’s short respite as they head back to work.
I don’t know how she does it but D K Hood has written another cracking thriller. She’s sent me down rabbit holes with the clues only for me to return without a prize (a culprit). I’m still in awe that even at Book 29(!!) Hood has new ways to dispose of victims and but the population of Black Rock Falls still don’t run for the hills!! 😆
This is one of my fave series with the Detectives Kane and Alton. A serial killer is in town as women fall prey. What do they have in common? The weather turns crazy and flooding will make life harder. Meanwhile someone comes to town who was born there. His life is about to change immensely. His parents died when he was a toddler and it seems it could have been murder. This cold case might simmer in the background for a while. Another suspect couple in town could be involved in another crime. It never ends for the police here. Centre stage is the murdered woman and I really enjoyed watching the author put all the pieces together to this puzzle. I had no clue as usual.
I loved every moment and can't wait for the next story.
I really enjoyed this book, 29 books in and the stories feel as fresh and original as the early books. It’s all kicking off in serial killer central. Women are getting murdered and the only link seems to be a self defence class. Can Jenna and her team catch the killer before someone else dies? DK Hood has a great imagination as the storyline’s are always new and shocking at times. This could be read as a stand alone but I recommend that you read the whole series as it will give some context into the team and their relationships. This is such a good series and this book didn’t disappoint.
Living in Black Rock Falls is challenging for everyone. Being so off the grid for some makes things interesting. Jenna and Dave are the perfect pair to protect the area. They’re looking for another serial killer in this one. The victims are connected to the sheriff’s department, which hits the team hard.
I can’t get enough of this series. I love Jenna and Dave. Their team and found family are some of the best I’ve read. I love that D. K. brings in characters from her other series into this one frequently. I love getting to see more of their personalities because they’re part of the Black Rock Falls family also.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of this book.
It is crazy to me that we are already on number 29 in this series, it seems to have gone by so quickly! I have read the vast majority of these books and they are always a "must read" whenever they come out. Having said that, you can read this book as a standalone too but I recommend working your way through the series, you won't regret it!
When women turn up dead who all went to self-defence classes with their deputies, something is clearly going badly wrong and it is up to Jenna and Dave to figure it out.
This was a solid police procedural and the person responsible for the murders in Black Rock Falls will surprise.
Serial Killer Central has a new Killer....... young women are being killed, and the MO is different every time.
I am a huge fan of Jenna and Kane. Incorporating their lives away from work is a great way of keeping me invested in the series. It makes them more human. The motive to these killings was chilling to say the least, and the cold heartless confession of the killer was disturbing. I have read a number of Kane and Alton books, and enjoyed every one of them.
