Octavio Paz Lozano was a Mexican writer, poet, and diplomat, and the winner of the 1982 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1990 Nobel Prize for Literature ("for impassioned writing with wide horizons, characterized by sensuous intelligence and humanistic integrity.")

Aslında tiyatro metinlerini okumaktan çok keyif alan biri değilim. Ancak arada yazarından dolayı istisnalar yapıp okuyorum. Ölüm Çiçekleri'ni de Octavio Paz yazdığı için merak ediyordum. Şiirlerindeki gücü ve dili, acaba metinine yedirebildi mi diye bir soru vardı kafamda.

Beklentimin karşılığını aldım. Çok hoşlanmadığım ve şiddetine güvenmedigim bir katharsis ile sonlanmasına rağmen; kendi içinde hoşlukları olan bir oyun bu. Yer şiirlerini andıran diyaloglar ve hoş metaforlarla süslenmiş hikayenin genel akışı oyunun dikkate değer tarafları. Onun dışında çok iyi ve parlak metinlerin yazıldığı bu alanda biraz sönük ve basit olarak nitelendirilebilecek kadar mütevazi.

Kitabın editörlüğü korkunç kotü. Ancak bir ilköğretim çocuğunun defterinde bu kadar hata olur. Çok şaşırdım. Öyle uzun bir metinde değil, sonuçta 62 sayfalık mini bir kitap bu. Düzeltme yapılması bu kadar mı zor anlayamıyorum.

Tiyatro ve yazarın meraklarının okumasını tavsiye ederim.

Una obra insuperable de realismo mágico, una gran tragedia, un amor imposible y un jardín como protagonista. La llegada del otro que nos salva y nos condena, el otro que llega y vive por nosotros y por nosotros muere. El tiempo que es ahora y que no será nunca más, la vida que es vida porque será muerte y la muerte que, en todo su esplendor, es la vida que prosigue.
Probablemente la mejor pieza teatral que he leído nunca, qué precioso es el lenguaje cuando se emplea del modo correcto, las palabras dejan de ser solo palabras y nos envuelven.

"Adormecida, sin recuerdos ni deseos, bien arraigada al suelo, bien plantada en mí misma. Después, el mundo se abrió en dos. Me arrancaste como a una hierba, cortaste mis raíces, me arrojaste al aire. Suspendida a tus ojos, me balanceaba en el vacío. Desde entonces no tengo sitio. Me echaría a tus pies, pero no lo haré: envenenaría tu sombra."

Es una obra que retrata la dualidad, empezando por Beatriz, que es hermosa pero a su vez también es peligrosa, esto último se debe a que hiere a otras personas, pero el dañar a los demás también la daño a ella misma, condenandola a la soledad, y esa soledad también la llevó a las ancias de conocer el mundo exterior, fuera de su jardín, a la libertad, más a su vez seguía aferrada a sus frutos.

Es una buena obra, lo que más criticaria es la rapidez con la que sucede todo, pero, considerando que es una adaptación teatral, tiene todo el sentido que sea así.

Es de los primeros libros que leí en mi vida, probablemente no soy parcial, pero me gusta mucho. El amor, la ciencia y la moral se tratan de una manera muy agradable a través de unos personajes interesantes. Para mi es muy recomendable.

Cuando dije que estaba atrasada y apenas estaba leyendo la hija de Rappaccini, no mentí. Al fin la terminé (cuando tuve que haberlo hecho hace un mes) pero lo importante es que lo logré. No es larga, es una obra corta que lees en media hora, se supone que se lee en una sentada (aunque este no fue el caso).
Hace tiempo me propuse escribir buenas reviews pero qué difícil se me está haciendo, espero regresar a editarla.

La edició es una delicia, las ilustraciones maravillosas. Curiosamente, he disfrutado más de la adaptación teatral de Octavio Paz que de la obra de Hawthorne (seguramente porque al compartir la trama, leer inmediatamente lo mismo aún en prosa, se me ha hecho más pesado).

Breve, rápida evolución de la historia y agradable (en mi apreciación). Me es grata la forma en que Paz enriquece los diálogos con sus metáforas y frases poéticas.
