Aldric and his bonds have completed their second year at the Academy. More importantly, Aldric bonded twice more which put him on par with the strongest in the Empire. But as his power grows, so too do the threats against him. Unexpectedly, the first threat he faces is from his supposed tutor, Arch Mage Giles Stewart. The man's jealousy for Aldric simmered all year until it finally boiled over in a deadly confrontation. In the end Aldric was forced to end the threat, permanently.
But doing so had consequences. Aldric was injured in the final battle, nearly succumbing to the corruption spell Giles placed on him. Thanks to the Academy healers he was able to recover after a week of being unconscious. Outside of the Academy, the fragile peace that the Empire managed to maintain was now in peril after Giles' defeat. The Imperial Grand Magus is forced to return to the capital to ensure the peace as well as investigate all of Giles' lies.
Aldric intended on recuperating and relaxing with his bonds during summer break, but fate had other plans in store. A letter from Nadia's parents throws the group into turmoil. Then the unexpected happens and Aldric and his bonds are forced to deal with a new reality before they can move forward.
Follow Aldric and his bonds while they continue to learn and grow in their relationship, deal with demanding professors, and try to find the last two bonds to fulfill Aldric's full potential. All while dealing with the unintended fallout of their actions.
The subtitle of this book couldve been "the dwarves are at it again" up until a certain reveal which was absolutely the high point of this book. Honestly quite a bit in the middle seemed like needless padding. Which is unfortunate because it is sandwiched between a really great book. If you just skipped their entire internment, and a bit of the classes stuff, you wouldve missed nothing. I'll be back for book 4, as it is a good read, but I feel like the author just felt the need to pad this one quite a bit more. Honestly as strange as it sounds, I'm more excited for them to actually be out of the academy at this point. Very aethers revival feeling. Hopefully this is all building into a bit more than slice of life. Maybe that's me reading it for something it's not, but the actual action and mystery are the best parts of this series along with the romance.
Highly enthralling and entertaining third installment
I could not WAIT for this book to come out and I’m sad it’s already done. Can’t wait for the fourth book but I know the author stated some time off writing and time with a new baby. So that’s that. I loved this book. Didn’t go in any direction I expected, but then again, I didn’t really expect anything, I just wanted to visit the world I’d Aldric and his bonds again. Glad we got to know Ember and see that bond take shape. And again I love this series. So much more than the majority of reads out there on Amazon……. Many fall short and I can’t even get halfway thru. So kudos to Ryan Jackson for making an interesting world I care about.
A terrifically fun read, and totally captivating. I binged this book over two days!
Poor, simple Aldrich continues to expand his abilities as well as his harem in his second year at the academy. I particularly enjoy how he just dives into his girls wants and wishes while balancing his growth as a mage. Seems like he needs to focus on his basic spell use as he really doesn't know much magic yet.
I highly recommend this book, as well as the whole series. This is a very worthwhile read.
We had to wait a bit for this one but it was worth it. The story is getting better and better and I hope we go on for at least a few more books. The spice is well placed great action, I don't necessarily care for all the classroom stuff but some people like it. We have a great mix of characters with all different personalities. All in all a great book and series.
This book gives our characters a lot of interesting things to do. The tension between the school, larger politics, and main villain created a lot of interesting developments. The relationships continue to be interesting and enjoyable.
Overall, it's good at what it does. If you like that, read it.
I think this is the best book so far. The thing I found boring was all the classroom stuff. Way over explaining everything. I know it’s at an academy but they could have been sent on more expeditions. Even the rescue was a little rushed. But I am looking forward to the next book
I have just got done reading this series of five books and each one gets better than the last the author builds each character and story as he goes and they get better each time I would recommend these books to anyone.
Was a truly enjoyable adventure. Couldn’t stop reading. Did have to skip the second adult scene as it does get a bit overbearing, I mean yea they are untangling in activities get the story moving again. I don’t know why you have to dedicate an entire chapter to it
After a solid second book in the series, the third instalment also proved to be a very good entry. We have seen the main baddie(i hope) in this book and even though we saw him for a small amount of time, it was a solid entry and i am waiting for the next book.
There's some interesting plot going on, but Aldric is just so bland. His whole personality is pretty much "me protect bonds". It honestly makes it hard to get invested.
