The Duke of Halmesbury is one noble character. He’s titled, he’s handsome and he’s huge….but he is also smart, compassionate, humble and open minded. This is a collection of three stories wherein his kindness and generocity has changed the lives of those around him. These tales are well written emotional rollercoasters with very happy endings.
Miss Honeyfield and the Guest (Inconvenient Brides Prequel). Dinah Honeyfield and John Garrett John was the second son of a marquess who wanted him to have a military career. When John informed his father that he intended to be a published author, his father disinherited him. He found himself living as a guest in the home of Mr. Honeyfield, a wealthy merchant with a daughter named Dinah. Four years later, he and Dinah wanted to marry, but her father refused him. Unbeknownst to the couple, the Duke of Halmesbury intervened, resulting in a life changing conversation. This story is an emotional seesaw, and I felt so badly for the young lovers. John’s willingness to sacrifice his pride and profession for Dinah nearly broke my heart, but I was thrilled by the twist at the end!
Mrs. Thorne and the Secret (Inconvenient Brides Prequel) Lydia and Jacob Lydia and Jacob had been best friends most of their lives. She was the vicar’s daughter and he was the grandson of the local baronet. When Jacob joined the army, he and Lydia corresponded, and after one specific ah-ha moment he realized that she meant everything to him. Hoping to propose to her while on a short military leave, he discovered that Lydia’s father had just died and she would be displaced when the new vicar arrived. Although his proposal was less than romantic, they ended up in Gretna Green, and before he had to report for duty, he settled Lydia in his grandfather and uncle’s home. Circumstances became such that Lydia was forced to run away and start a new life. He had once told her that if he ever needed help, the Duke of Halmesbury would be the one person he would turn to….so Lydia did just that. When Jacob sold his commission and came home, he could not find his wife. He searched for three years before an article in The Gentleman’s Magazine led him to her. This story runs the emotional gamut, from terror to tender. We get to see that both Lydia and Jacob can stand on their own, but life is so much richer when they are together. Although their devotion to each other jumps off the page, it is the Duke of Halmesbury who is the true hero of this tale.
Miracle on St. James Street (Inconvenient Brides Prequel) Isabelle and Cameron Isabelle knew that her sire and father were two different people, but she was unprepared for a half-brother, who was also an earl, to show up at her father’s home wanting to do right by her. Much to her discomfort, she was thrust into high society after having grown up in an academic home. Cameron, the second son of a northern baron, had recently sold his commission and returned to London. He was dragged to a ball and immediately abandoned by his good friend Brendan Ridley. He noticed a lovely young lady surreptitiously reading a book, and after a clandestine conversation, tried to figure out a way to gain a formal introduction. For a week their best laid plans were thwarted until a much prayed for miracle finally occurred. A family gathering, a holiday house party, and a duke, an earl and baron all played a part in making Isabelle and Cameron’s dreams come true. Such a sweet story!.

Three tales of second chances The daughter of a rich industrialist and the second son of an aristocrat who has been disowned by his father because he wants to pursue a career as a writer are in love. Her father who wants the prestige of a connection with a title refuses his proposal. Once again, a father’s ambition crushes true love. Married and alone after her husband leaves to the war, Lydia is assaulted and has to seek the protection of a duke and work as a housekeeper. Her husband has left the army in the meantime and is actively searching for his missing wife. A newspaper article puts him on her trail, but can they regain their earlier connection? Isabel is the natural daughter of the old Earl of Saunton, and has a love of books and teaching. The current Earl, Richard, wishes to give her the opportunity to be introduced to Society. Mr. Cameron Bolton is a spare to an obscure barony in the far North, more interested in books than in balls and affaires of the ton. They meet at a ball, where Isabel sits with the wallflowers, reading a book she had smuggled in. Attracted to her, he desperately searches for somebody to formally introduce him to her. Their hopes for an introduction are thwarted when her chaperone, the countess is feeling poorly and thinks that her baby is coming early. duper well written collection of stories by the fantastic storyteller. Has the magic to weave the readers into a family and friends of one special Duke. The Duke of Helmesbury is one very supportive person to his family and friends that he includes into his life. Be it his own life or that of everyone else. Each one of these three stories have him to thank for his help to get to their happily ever after. Dinah has loved John for years but John needs some extra help to get to their happily ever after. Isabella and Cameron meet at a ball but he needs to be introduced to her per society before it's OK for anything to happen. A long and hard chase for them. Lydia and Jacob are married and then he leaves for war, not even sure if he will be back. After his Uncle makes a pass at her, she runs for the Duke for help. Duke Helmesbury is a strong character in all these stories and a great support person to have on your side. Would recommend to everyone this story and the rest of a series.

Loved these glimpses into the life of the Duke before the book, Miss Ridley and the Duke, that take place in Miss Honeyfield and the Guest. It was so gratifying to hear the story of John, who wrote the article on the Duke, and the rippling effect it had even into the next short story of Mrs. Thorne and the Secret. I also enjoyed learning more of the Duke’s former housekeeper and director of his children’s home. And the story of Lord Saunton’s half sister, Isabelle, and Cameron was equally entertaining in the Miracle on St. Jame’s Street. All three short stories are perfect for a quick read when your time is limited; they are standalone, but it was so much fun to read them after reading The Dazzling Debutantes series and see how they all fit together! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book contains three short novellas that are companion pieces to three of the Dazzling Debutantes books. You do not need to have read the full version books to enjoy these charming novellas, each can stand on their own. I thought each story was delightful and had a happily ever after. I have read the stories that each novella is tied to and thoroughly enjoyed them. I appreciate that this author writes, clean, wholesome romance with no foul language. Her books are entertaining, swoony and wonderfully written historical romances. This collection is perfect for a quick read during the busy holiday season. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

C.N.Jarrett gives us a christmasy novellas collection for all to enjoy! The Meddling Duke is a collection of three novellas, three stories of found love in or around the families from the Dazzling Debutantes series. Stories of found live, of second chances and hope, of dreams that come to life and of harmony. The stories can be read as stand-alones, no need to read the other books from the series, but they would definitely delight the reader and persuade to get into C.N.Jarrett 's books! I am forever a fan of her books, and cannot wait for the next book from the series! Is like hearing news from good, old, friends! I have received this book as ARC from the author and Booksirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily! Thank you for this lovely book!
I enjoyed this collection of Regency stories. I was happy to once again renew acquaintances with characters from C. N. Jarrett's other Regency books. Duke Halmesbury is the best! Given Christmas is such a busy season, it's nice the stories were all short. Though the mention of anything Christmas didn't really occur until the last story, this is a nice fast read for a cold winter's night.
