Starship Superior
Owen Lake never had any interest in space.
After watching his astronaut mother die, he preferred the simple life of a boat captain on Lake Superior. But the simple life was never meant to last.
His charter business is failing, but an opportunity pops up in the form of Dr. Mariana Keller, who's interested in what lies beneath the a mysterious, unnatural blue glow emanating from the depths.
Owen agrees to take her on a clandestine dive to an ancient shipwreck site. With his trusty canine companion Jack by his side, he sets out with Keller, but a simple dive turns into a fight for their lives when a beam pins Mari beneath the wreckage.
As Owen struggles to free her, he is ripped into an underwater hole and finds himself aboard a highly advanced, unmanned spacecraft.
The ship's powerful Artificial Intelligence, which Owen names Jefferson, asks Owen to become a temporary crew member in exchange for the rescue of Mari and Jack. He immediately agrees without a second thought.
After rescuing them, the AI places them in stasis and initiates a launch. With the ship jettisoning Owen, Mari, and Jack toward deep space and a cosmic conflict far beyond Earth's solar system, it's clear there's a lot more to becoming a crew member than Owen could have imagined.
Eleven months later, Owen awakens to discover that he's undergone involuntary biological enhancements that allow him to survive deep space. The enhancements grant him abilities far beyond human limits. But Jefferson's bargain remains Owen must cooperate and prove his worth on a millennia-old quest for revenge against the enemy Federation... or Mari and Jack will remain frozen forever.
Forced to lead, Captain Owen Lake must now fight a war that began 100,000 years before he was ever born.

Top Notch Science Fiction!

good book, the MC needs to be turned into a leader, not a dummy.
Slow in the beginning, picks up during the middle and end of the book. the MC needs some combat skills. There wasn’t a lot of pew pew in this book, but there was plenty of world building. If you’re looking for a book with more action, this first book was not it. Likable characters, including the Talking dog and the A.I. cat. With all this sci-fi technology, the skies the limit for what you can do with these characters. will definitely read the next book in the series.

Not as Good as I Hoped
This was a DNF at 74% for me. Neither Owen or Dr. Keller were appealing enough for me to continue. I kept hoping they would develop into interesting characters but it never happened. The plot was also a net loss for me. The Kyu and the Servants offered nothing of value. The ages-long conflict lacked any meaningful value and I finally realized there was no point in continuing.

Good read
Owen, Jack, and Dr. Keller are onboard the advanced alien ship that kidnapped them to help it search out information on the race that built the ship whose A.I. Owen calls Jefferson. This trip only requires a short trip to another galaxy! Things aren’t working out as planned by the A.I.. Go figure. Things are heating up!

Good Read!
This was a well written story with interesting characters. There was too much detail in the parts of the story that seemed unecessary and that was why i only gave it a rating of 4.

A pleasant read
Not a bad book at all. This book started off a little slow, but it gained speed toward the end. I felt it worth my time, and I’m up for book two. Try it, you’ll LIKE it!!

Yet another fine series from J.N. Chaney and his cohorts.
I'm finding that a lot of his books have a common plot theme, but it's still good to see how the story gets worked around.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of Owen, Mari, Mao, Jack, Kento, and Jefferson.

Great Initial Story

LOL waiting for the next in series.

Very entertaining. The characters were good. I enjoyed it very much. Some of the scenes were a little hard to believe, but I don't feel they detract from the story.

Messy, unbelievable, obnoxious AI but not in a good way. Didn't really feel for the characters and the story is just to much low quality Hollywood TV show.
