Gus Malone has spent years watching younger folks find their happy endings while his own heart stayed silent. He's loved Glinda Stover from afar for longer than he cares to admit, but what does an aging cowboy with calloused hands and an empty wallet have to offer a woman like her? He can barely choke out a "good morning." Asking her to take a moonlit walk is far beyond him.
Glinda Stover is a woman who built her own life, nail by nail, and pretended she never needed a soul. Then a stranger rides into Red Ridge with a claim that could destroy everything she's worked for. Too old to start over, Glinda faces an impossible choice, especially when a piece of her heart is here, and belongs to a man who’ll never know.
As Gus and Glinda try to stop the stranger, their race against time turns into something neither expected. But when the dust settles and the truth comes out, will Gus finally find the courage to speak what's been locked in his heart for years? Or will fear of losing her keep him silent forever? And if he can’t say it, will she?
These kisses only books can be enjoyed in any order, but are best read starting with book one.
All Gus wants is a little romance that can grow into lasting love with the woman he’s dreamed about for years. He’s held back because he doesn’t believe he’s worthy of Glinda, even though he’s been deeply in love with her for a very long time.
As a widow who raised her son alone, Glinda always looks forward to Gus stopping by her general store. He brightens her days, and deep down she knew that if she ever found love again, she wanted it to be with him.
It takes the threat of losing her livelihood to finally push hidden feelings toward the surface. Glinda suddenly finds herself fighting to prove ownership of her store and the land beneath it after important papers go missing and another party steps forward claiming the property as their own.
Gus is determined to protect Glinda and help save everything she has worked for, but his greatest battle may be convincing himself that he deserves her love. Can he finally find the courage to tell her how he truly feels?
Sarah Lamb weaves together a sweet, heartfelt novella filled with gentle romance, loyal devotion, and a surprising twist at the end that keeps the pages turning.
The Old Man is a touching, entertaining addition to one of my favorite western romance series The Red Ridge Chronicles set in Red Ridge, Oregon, in the late 1800s. Gus and Glinda were two of my favorite supporting characters in the previous books in the series, and I was pleased and excited when I found out that that they were getting their own well-deserved story. It was everything I hoped it would be and more! The storyline is well-written and heart-tugging with drama, humor, and emotion. The wonderful cast of characters drives the story beautifully. I adore the way Gus and Glinda's tender, later-life romance finally blossoms after all the years of unspoken feelings. I totally enjoyed this wonderful visit with my old friends In Red Ridge, and I heartily recommend this book and the series. Note: Although there are many carryover characters, this book can easily be read as a standalone. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Heartwarming Tale of Faith, Friendship, and Enduring Love
*The Old Man* by Sarah Lamb is a beautifully written Christian historical romance that captures the power of steadfast love, faith, and community. Gus Malone—known to everyone as “Old Man” Gus—quickly became one of the most lovable heroes I’ve read in a long time. His quiet devotion to Glinda Sover over the years was deeply touching, and watching their friendship slowly blossom into romance made this story impossible to put down. The backdrop of danger, outlaws, and the fight to save Glinda’s store added excitement and tension, while the strong Gunslinger friendships brought warmth and humor to the story. Sarah Lamb does an excellent job weaving together romance, courage, and Christian values in a way that feels genuine and uplifting. The emotional payoff when Gus and Glinda finally confess their feelings is absolutely worth the wait. This is a sweet, inspiring read for anyone who loves historical romance filled with faith, loyalty, and second chances at love.
I've been enchanted by this entire series, reading avidly as each title becomes available. We've watched Gus in the background for six novels, his eyes following Glinda longingly, everywhere, but never stepping forward to share his thoughts. Now her store is being threatened and she might have to leave town. Will the evildoers win the day? You'll have to read for yourself to find out. Another charming tale from the town of Red Ridge! NOTE: Although there is character overlap throughout, each story is totally standalone!
We finally get to know Gus, a little better in the book The Old Man. From the beginning of the Red Ridge series, Gus has been there to help Hannah and bring the gunslingers in for protection. Now, he has always felt something for Glinda, but was to embarrassed and shy to say it. When Glinda's store and life are in danger, they both must stand strong and help each other. Gus would do anything for Glinda. Let's watch and see what happens next. I was given an ARC of this story by the author for an honest review.
I received an ARC, and all opinions are mine, another very good book by Sarah Lamb, this is a good sweet clean faith based romance story, about an older couple, there is not quite as much action as there is in the other books in the series, but still very good, I would definitely recommend this book and the rest of the series, I am looking forward to the final book in this series.
It is great going back to the fictional town of Red Ridge and seeing many familiar faces and the "feel it in his bones " weatherman, Gus aka the old man. This is his and Glinda's story. Who says you have to be young to be a knight in shining armor? This title fits Gus to a T. I truly enjoyed this story of not so young love.
A great short story. I love Gus and Glinda. Glinda is about to have her shop taken away but, Gus is determined to help her. This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I have enjoyed the whole series. I love stories about older couples, Gus and Glinda are a special couple.
I received an advance copy of the book from the author. This book review is my own opinion.
Really a wonderful story. Gus has ben enamored with Glinda since he first saw her. He has wanted to tell her for ages, but every time he chickens out. When a stranger shows up in town claiming the land and everything on it is legally his the story really takes off. I throughly enjoyed this book.
Great story. I enjoyed that it was an older couple who found romance. The characters were warm and endearing. The story has a great plot, and it's fun to read, with many characters from previous books. I was entertained from beginning to end and well pleased with the ending.
A delightful story in the Red Ridge series. Great characters and easy to read in a few hours. I received a copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
This book was wonderful! I love how the story developed and how real the people are! Lots of life in this story! I loved it! I will read this author again!
I really enjoyed reading this final book about the old man, Gus, from Red Ridge, who was always watching Glinda, the store owner, but never really saying much to her. It took ten years and a scare that she might lose her store, before he finally said a few words to her about how he’d been feeling about her ever since he first saw her. In a funny and very convoluted way, he and Glinda both asked each other to share the rest of their lives together. Happy ending for all in Red Ridge. I definitely recommend this book! I am blessed to be on the arc team, and this is my honest review of this book. 📕 ♥️
