Your cells are talking. The question Are you listening? You can be eating “clean,” taking your supplements, working out—and still feel off. Like you’re aging faster than you should be. I’ve always believed that modern medicine and holistic health should complement each other—not compete with each other.
As a Nurse Practitioner, I absolutely believe in evidence-based medicine, appropriate medications, diagnostic testing, and medical interventions when they’re needed. Medications can be lifesaving, life-changing, and sometimes exactly the right next step.
But I also believe we’ve become far too comfortable asking, “What can we prescribe for this?” before asking, “Why is this happening in the first place—and is there anything we can do to prevent it?”
That’s one reason I’ve enjoyed Heal Your Cells by Dr. Josh Axe and Dr. Will Cole. It encourages readers to look at health through a wider lens—nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, metabolic health, inflammation, lifestyle, and the everyday choices that influence how our bodies function over time.
Holistic health doesn’t mean rejecting medicine. To me, it means recognizing that health is bigger than a prescription bottle.
We should be talking about prevention before diabetes develops. Heart health before cardiovascular disease becomes advanced. Strength and movement before mobility is lost. Sleep and stress management before burnout becomes the norm. Nutrition before we’re trying to undo years of metabolic dysfunction.
And when medication is necessary? We use it—without guilt or judgment—while still supporting the rest of the person.
No single book has all the answers, and I don’t agree with every claim simply because it appears in a health book. I always encourage people to read critically, look at the evidence, and discuss significant changes with their healthcare provider. But I love books that challenge us to become more intentional participants in our own health rather than waiting until something goes wrong.
Medicine is incredibly good at treating disease. My hope is that we become equally passionate about creating health. ❤️
Definitely a worthwhile read if you’re interested in prevention, whole-person wellness, and taking a more proactive approach to your health.
Heal Your Cells is an inspiring and thought-provoking book for anyone interested in cellular health, energy, recovery, and healthy aging. I appreciated the way it encourages readers to look beyond quick fixes and consider the everyday habits that influence how the body functions and maintains itself.
The discussion of nutrition, sleep, movement, stress, hydration, and other lifestyle factors provides a useful reminder that overall wellness is shaped by many interconnected choices. The book presents these ideas in an accessible way, making complex concepts easier to understand without requiring a scientific background.
What I enjoyed most was the focus on building a stronger foundation for long-term well-being. Rather than concentrating on one isolated habit, the book encourages readers to think about how different aspects of daily life work together. This broader perspective made the material feel practical and relevant.
The subject of cellular health can easily become overwhelming, but the approachable writing keeps the discussion engaging. It also encourages readers to become more mindful of their routines and consider where small, sustainable changes might fit into everyday life.
Overall, Heal Your Cells is an engaging and motivating read that offers plenty of ideas for anyone curious about longevity, healthy habits, recovery, and the science of the body. I found it encouraging without being difficult to follow, and I enjoyed the emphasis on understanding the foundations of wellness. A worthwhile addition to a health and wellness library and an easy five-star recommendation.
