Manhattan Monsters #3

Giddy for the Gargoyle

Rate this book
Locheran

I'm drawn to the woman with golden-blonde hair, blue eyes, and plentiful curves.

Farrah.
She's best friends with the gargoyle king's wife. A human who's off-limits to a player like me.

Whatever.

It's not like I want to be a player. I just haven't found my mate yet. Most gargoyles don't, and after a thousand years of living, I've convinced myself I'll be alone for the rest of my life.

So why can't I stay away from her?

When we share a kiss one night, something ignites within my body. I can't explain it, but I need more.

I need her.

And the night we give in to our desires, the unexpected happens.

We accidentally complete a mating bond.

Farrah

I've mated with a gargoyle.

It was an accident, but now our souls are bound.

My feelings for Locheran grow stronger every single day, but there's one I come from a long line of monster hunters. I'm destined to capture and kill innocent beings.

I refuse.

And if my family finds out I'm falling in love with one of the creatures they've deemed evil?

They'll come for him.

Capture him.

End his life.

And I won't let that happen.

Giddy for the Gargoyle is book 3 in the Manhattan Monsters series and includes characters from Gaga for the Gargoyle, which is part of the Fated Dates series. Both books are in the same interconnected world. While Giddy for the Gargoyle is a standalone, reading Guardians for the Vamp first will give more insight into the plan to reveal the supernatural world to humans. You're also introduced to Rorik, the first vampire, in Guardians, who is featured more in Giddy and will have his own book next.

The content list is still being compiled and will be in the first few pages of the books, as well as on the author's website. If you have any concerns about potential triggers, please reach out to the author.

Settle does it again!!! The characters are so wonderful. Farrah is fiesty yet sweet! And Locheran is a romantic and funny. The story is a great ride from start to finish. It draws together all the stories in the series so far. It’s a standalone but in the same world and story as the other books. It holds its own but it’s great to see all the characters I feel in love with in the other books. But the story isn’t over! Excited to see what is to come too!! 💜💜💜

Hunter’s daughter meets monster - spice, secrets, and a cat worth dying for.

This installment feels refreshingly distinct from the rest of the series while still remaining deeply rooted in its established world. The author does an excellent job with series recaps and even a post-book list of newly enacted laws. These details immediately immerse you back into the universe and remind you just how much the world has evolved over time.

What makes this book stand out most is its break from the increasingly heavy focus on the Supernatural Unveiling Plan. Previous entries leaned heavily into committees, politics, and strategic planning, which could feel overwhelming at times. It steps away from boardroom-style plotting and instead delivers a more action-driven narrative that still pushes forward the same core cause. The result is a story that feels both refreshing and meaningful within the series’ larger arc.

Farrah’s background as the daughter of a monster-hunting family introduces a fascinating twist. Monster hunters have only been lightly explored in earlier books, so bringing that perspective to the forefront adds tension and complexity to the worldbuilding. Her upbringing creates layers of deception, spying, and potential violence that weave seamlessly into an otherwise emotional storyline.

Farrah herself is an especially relatable protagonist. She struggles with insecurities about her plus-sized body and finds intimacy difficult because of it - a vulnerability that many readers will recognize. Her journey toward self-acceptance is both touching and empowering. Locheran embraces every part of Farrah: her body, her hesitations, and her experience level. His patience, attentiveness, and unwavering positivity make him an ideal counterpart to her self-doubt. And any character who would unquestionably risk their life for her cat, Potato, earns instant points.

The spicy scenes are creative, playful, and memorable. Each encounter brings something new -whether it’s tail play, horn handlebars, or even sky-high fun - making the exploration of kink feel both exciting and character-driven rather than repetitive.

Thank you so much to the author for the ARC!

“Giddy for the Gargoyle” stars Farah, the daughter of a hunter family and best friends with Evangeline, whom we met in “Gaga for the Gargoyle”. We also meet Loch, who works for Xander, Evangeline’s mate and Gargoyle king. Farrah has left her family since she wants nothing to do with their business, and Loch is desperately in love with Farrah ever since he saw her. She’s gorgeous and very off-limits, according to Evangeline. So, naturally, Loch ignores that and they mate!

Farrah and Loch's story was really cute. Loch is portrayed as a player, but I mean after so many centuries alive, I feel like he got a bad rep. As soon as he sees Farrah, he knows he’s drawn to her for some reason, but cannot make a move because everyone threatens him with violence. But, as I said, Loch is terrible at following instructions, so when he finally decides to give in his feelings for Farrah, he realises she’s his mate. And Loch only has eyes for her. He’s sweet and very protective of her.

Farrah, on the other hand, lives in fear that people will realise who her family is and that she already knew monsters existed. She lives with the fear that they will find out who she is and hate her for it. Especially after she mates with Loch, since she’s developing feelings for him. While it keeps the themes of body positivity with Farrah being a curvy FMC, it also adds an element of uncertainty not due to her physique, but because of family. With “Gaga for the Gargoyle”, Evangeline’s insecurities were due to her ex-husband, in “Giddy for the Gargoyle”, Farrah does not fear that Loch is heads and heels over her, but she fears his feelings may not be enough because of who she is.

“Giddy for the Gargoyle” is a spicy and cozy paranormal romance with a lot of action, and it was great to see the old characters back together.

This is my first book by Settle Myer and HOLY HECK did she hit it out of the park, like brb gotta read her entire backlog now!!! I am a sucker for a good gargoyle book, so when I saw social media posts circling around about this book I need I had to get in one way or another!

I really appreciated the beginning of the book dropping the lore about the previous events/books so you feel a little more "in the know" with what's happened and going on currently. This is a stand alone novel but it still helps to have a little back story if you're like me and reading this one first and/or can't wait to read this one instead.

Loch is a GENTLEGOYLE, Gargoman? He's swoony!!!! He tried to hard to give off fck boy vibes, but simply could NOT resist Farrah. She's a sassy plus size cat mom & just wants to have a little fun!!!! I loved their banter and back and forth teasing (both spicy and non) and how she's never afraid to tell him he's being dramatic but secretly loves it. The spicy scenes are also super fun & creative! I didn't feel like I was reading the same in and out (LOL) as normal. I like my smutty books to be fun! Nothing felt forced, repetitive or uncomfy. And can we talk about Farrah's cat Potato!!!! Loch's little nicknames for him are ADORABLE, and seeing him go from "huh" to taking care of him and accepting how important he is to her earns a billion points in my book as a fellow cat mom.

Finally I'm also not a crier but near the end it got to me ok?! I was already feeling like it was a 5 star read SUPER early on, but a solid ending really cements it for me. Thank you SO much to Settle for letting me read an early copy of this! I can not WAIT to keep reading more in this little wonderful universe from one of my new fave authors <3

⭐️: 4.75/5 (rounded up to 5 for the review!)
🌶️: 3/5

I was incredibly fortunate to be included as an ARC reader for Giddy for the Gargoyle.

After having read and loving Gaga for the Gargoyle, I couldn’t resist signing up when I saw the opportunity.

We reunite with Locheran and Farrah the respective best friends of the Gargoyle king of New York Xander and his fated mate Evangeline (Gaga for the Gargoyle). We start with a minor miscommunication, both thinking the other doesn’t like them, fortunately this is fairly quickly resolved.

But Farrah has a secret she’s been keeping, even from her best friend. If she comes clean will it tear them all apart?

I love the plus size rep, the FUPA appreciation. The fact the FMC is an “older” woman. This is part of a series but I think the story is well enough laid out that you don’t have to read the other books (but I recommend it!). It’s a really easy read and the pages flew by!

All in all this is just a fun time, I will absolutely reread! I liked the shift from bachelor gargoyle to fated mate/cat dad(sort of). I liked the progression on the overall arc of the series. So why not the full 5 stars?

Ugh, this is totally personal and subjective and probably just me, but some of the dialogue just felt a little ott. Almost as if the MMC needed to overcompensate not having really built any romantic relationships in his first 1000 years, so now he has to regurgitate the fluffiest, soppiest prose. It just threw me out of it a bit.

That said, I really enjoy Settle Myer’s writing and can’t wait for what comes next!

Spicy Gargoyle romance with side of Potato

I really enjoyed the latest book in the Manhattan Monsters series. Locheran has been present for the series as a comic relief f**kboy. I love when the player finally finds the woman who makes him completely change his focus. He predictably went immediately to growly and possessive, but I loved how he was surprisingly sweet and flirty as well.

Farrah is totally relatable. She goes through some changes as well with their mating bond, and it is a lot of fun to see her confidence in herself sexually improve and to see her take more chances.

The plot continues where the last book left off dealing with the supes of Manhattan talking about revealing themselves to the humans. The plot wasn't super unpredictable, but there were still some surprises for me, and there was plenty of tension.

I think my favorite part of the book was Loch's relationship with Potato (aka French Fry, aka Hashbrown). It's always a lot of fun when the guy who hates cats has to put up with one for his woman. And since cats are clearly demon spawn, he treats Potato with the respect he deserves.

If you like paranormal romance with really good spice and fun additional body parts, you will love this one. It's cute and funny, with plenty of spice and swoon, all with a plot that spans the series.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

👀Tropes: Dual POV Monster romance with fated mates, accidental mating bond, monster x monster hunter, best friend's partner's best friend, insta-lust, plus size

☠️CW: Sexual Content, Fatphobia (internal), Alcohol, Drug Use, Death, Violence, Kidnapping, Torture (mention), Parental Abuse (mention), Vomit, Suicide (mention), Implied Non-Con (drunken kissing/knotting after she's past out)<--I can answer questions about this one if concerned.

🪢Kinks: Blood Play, Voyeurism, Exhibitionism, Wing/Horn Play, Butt Stuff, DP, Biting, Knotting,

📚Read Method: Kindle eBook. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

✨My Thoughts: Best Settle book yet.
I love love love Locheran and Farrah. Settle writes a ‘Previously on Manhattan Monsters’ to catch the reader up to speed, so reading the previous books is not required, but I absolutely encourage it.
This fated mates doesn’t feel to cliche and I do love how the two main characters navigated the ‘pull’ that fated mates usually is. There’s an overarching plot that really ties everything together and I can’t wait to read more!

💖Quotes:

“I can’t tell you that we will never fight, or that you won’t hate me sometimes, but if you ever doubt my attraction to you-mind, body, and soul-I will take you over my knee and spank your ass so hard, you won’t be able to sit for days.”

Giddy for the Gargoyle by Settle Myer
ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the latest chapter in the Manhattan monster universe and it’s as much of a romp as the rest.

Farrah is a sweetheart, she’s a very strong character but like so many of us has internalised body issues and struggles to accept her plus sized body. Farrah is Evangeline’s best friend and was in her books as the person who dragged her out of her post divorce depression, she’s an excellent friend and supportive to a fault. We learn in this installment that Farrah is the daughter of monster hunters which isn’t ideal when your best friend is marrying the king of the Gargoyles. I enjoyed the added depth this adds, Farrah doesn’t want to follow in her father’s footsteps and she has to pretend she doesn’t know about the supernatural world.

Locheran is a big flirt, a kind heart and a fierce protector who has long since given up on finding his mate. After a heated night together they accidentally form a mating bond and all hell breaks loose.

This is a romp, surprisingly emotional and very very spicy.

I’m excited for the next installment!

Settle Myer is so good at writing loveable monsters, and Locheran, the gargoyle MMC here, is no exception.

I first got to meet this grumpy gargoyle sweetheart in Gaga for the Gargoyle, which focuses on Evangeline (Farrah's, this books FMC, best friend) and Xander, the gargoyle king of New York City. Locheran is Xander's right hand man, and one of his soldiers.

Farrah and Locheran make such a sweet couple, and watching her overcome her insecurities thanks to Loch's caring and considerate nature made for a beautiful read.

There are some sensitive topics covered here, so it's worth checking out the note from the author or content warnings if you have any triggers. But if you're after some delicious gargoyle x human spice (with some vibrating appendages), I can definitely recommend this. You would benefit from reading the earlier Manhattan Monster books, but Settle does provide a "Previously on..." to get you up to date.

I received an ARC of this ebook from the author, and I'm voluntarily leaving this review

Note: This was an ARC read so my review will behonest and spoiler free.

I will be as delicate due to the spiciness of the romance. The story definitely plays on some troupes of spicy variety, but the "Touch Her, You Die" is still going strong. You also see some nice character growth from both our romantic leads as well as one particular side character who's name I can't reveal at this time.

There's real stakes to this one with the threat of Farrah's family operating in NYC. So it does get intense with that. There's also some intense moments that are in conjunction with the trigger warnings which Settle does make visible before you get to the first chapter.

Another thing is while this is apart of a series, it works as a stand alone. Also there's bonus content that gives a brief run through of the prior stories as well as lore within the storyverse should you need a TL:DR.

I gotta admit, this is my very first Gargoyle romance (and I'm very limited in my previous monster or paranormal romance experience), so let me tell you that it was truly a delight!
For other newbies, this series feels very much like a royalty or mafia romance... only they're monsters. Plus, the toys and erogenous zones available to these characters is a fun addition... if you know what I mean ;p
Although this is Book 3 in the series (I haven't read the previous books in the series or shared universe), it can be read as a standalone. BUT (in my copy at least) there a super helpful "previously on" refresher which got me up to speed with important characters and a summary of previous Manhattan Monster books for context.

Thank you for gifting me an advanced reader copy. Review reflective of my personal opinions

This is the 3rd book in the series and a 4th book that ties into this monster world. You don't have to read the other books if you don't want to because she has a snip of what is happening at the beginning, although her books are great so I highly recommend you go read the others. I loved that the FMC is an 'older' (not 20 year old) woman who is plus sized and has not had the best experiences with sex in the past (not trauma related). This cocky gargoyle is known for being a player but can not get this little cutie out of his head. The connect like magnets smashing into each other and end up accidentally mated (but it was fated). Lock (the MMC) has an interesting 'relationship' with her cat Potato and it is hilarious. I finished this book in 2 days. I would definitely recommend Settle Myer and this book to any monster loving person!

I was so excited for Locheran's story and Settle Myer did not disappoint!

Farrah and Locheran have accidentally mated. If that's not problematic enough, Locheran is a head of a gargoyle army and Farrah comes from a long line of monster hunters, even if she never embraced her family's line of work. I loved these complications and how these two worked through them. Just as with the other books in this series, we get some vibrating tails and sky s*x. Absolutely delightful and super hot!

Can we talk about Rory, too? I adore this sarcastic, pot stirring vampire! Desperately hoping he gets his own story. I really loved seeing all of the characters who previously received their own books. Definitely a found family vibe brewing in this series. 🩵

This is my first book I've read from this series, and I'm hooked! I will be now going to look at picking up the rest!

I went in only knowing this book was a monster romance, and enjoyed every moment of it! Not gonna say potato stole the show, but I did laugh out loud whenever he showed up. And I felt myself in the main lady, since I'm also near 40, and deal with insecurities, and folks not staying. So seeing that in a book really made me feel seen, and enjoy the book just a bit more.

Im definitely looking forward to the next book in the series, and the previous books!

I have never been more excited to step back into a world like this Manhattan Monsters world.
Each and every character is so unique.
I think that’s why I love it so much.. because not only do we meet new characters and see a new bond snap I to place.
We also get to know all of our beloved characters from the previous books even better!
We’ve meant our baddie FMC previously and we know she’s a ride or die bestie… but we also learn her deepest darkest secrets.
And our MMC, he’s also a ride or die, loyal warrior that is apart of this amazing friends group. He’s a bit of a flirt…. or at least he was until he meets his mate. The way he can say some of the filthiest things one minute and then some of the most romantic in the next will have you swooning!
These two are not only smoking hot together, but they’re also so incredibly sweet together.
They love hard and they fight even harder for their love!
The way I was rooting for these two to find their HEA!
But Author Settle Myer left us with some bread crumbs… and I’m hoping it means there’s more to come of this little monster series!

You guyyyysss!! This was so good!! I feel like this storyline really mixed it up a bit with how the fated mates played out and I can't forget to mention how good the actual plot was too outside of just the relationship and spicy fun times. I absolutely love this series and this book definitely lived up the hype for me. I really look forward to continuing this series with Rory!

ARC review:

This universe is fun and dynamic, full of interesting characters. Fated mates but hidden from each other. They come together fairly quickly. So spicy!

I love the breakdown in back stories so you can follow along well. Along with secondary characters back stories, that helps you transition into the next book easily. Really to read more!

⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️
Loch deserved the entire world after everything he has been through, while Farrah deserved to have someone see her true self when her family couldn't accept her and they both needed each other despite trying to deny their initial connection. First, Loch is so freaking thoughtful and sweet to Farrah making sure she is comfortable and taken care of, especially after their accidental bonding. He tries to give her space and the ability to decide what he has access to her emotionally, mentally and physically. And Farrah is so scared of being able to be herself around him and her friends, terrified of rejection. But their balance for each other is what made them stronger and more connected in the end. This series continues to draw you into the monsters of Manhattan and the turmoil they are dealing with between finding mates, seeking justice, and protecting their city!

I genuinely cannot express how much I loved this book. I have been in love with Lochran since he was first introduecd in the Monsters of Manhattan series, and finally getting his book healed something in me.

I knew that grumpy gargoyle was a gentleman underneath it all. Or as Farrah says, “gengtlegoyle? Gentlegarg?”. This book was full of humor, and funny quips that made me laugh the entire time, while also absolutely wishing I had a gargoyle man who could pick me up and wisp me away into the night.

The spice was EVERYTHING and FINALLY someone asks the questions about if the tails and wings are sentient (IYKYK).

Thank you ALWAYS Settle for giving me the honor of being part of your team, and writing books about women and men of all sizes, because everyone deserves love.

5 stars!

The humor had me laughing out loud and the spice made me blush. Loch and Farrah are everything together. I enjoyed their story so much!
