When the Devil’s son gets kicked out of Hell, all Hell breaks loose—on Earth.

Lucian “Luke” Teivel isn’t just any exile—he’s Lucifer’s son, freshly banished from Hell with no forwarding address and zero explanation. Now he’s stuck in the human world, paying cosmic penance by working for Infernal Affairs, a secret task force that polices supernatural crime and decides whether the guilty belong in prison…or back in the Pit.

Luke’s doing his best to blend in and not burn his petty annoyances when a new partner storms into his life: Detective Sorcha O’Malley. She’s sharp, stubborn, suspicious—and assigned to keep him from indulging in his more demonic tendencies. But Sorcha carries shadows even Luke can’t read.

Just as they’re settling into their begrudging partnership, college students start dropping across Savannah, Georgia. And every clue points directly at Luke. Someone is framing him—someone with a grudge, a plan, and a very personal reason to send him back to Hell.

To survive the setup, Luke and Sorcha must team up against enemies both infernal and annoyingly human. But as the danger escalates and Sorcha’s secrets inch closer to the surface, Luke faces the worst dilemma

Hand over his new partner to the devil
Or be relegated to earth forever.

And if he’s not careful? Savannah might wind up with a fresh vacancy in its homicide department—and one very pissed-off Prince of Hell.

I love this author’s old books - Acheron is spectacular and deep and soul crushing in its emotional intensity. I’m not sure what’s happened with their writing and storytelling ability over the last few years but this was honestly amateurish and so ridiculously disappointing. Great premise but that’s about it. The book seems to span only a few days, but then we randomly get at the end that it’s been a few months? There’s no character development, tons of random creatures and ancient orders thrown in (to a confusing degree), the FMC and MMC have no chemistry. Even the POV changes at times from one sentence to the next! I just don’t get it. How could the author who wrote Acheron have written this. It’s like a debut novel.

What a fun urban fantasy! I was immediately drawn in by the fast paced and mysterious storyline, the characters, and the unique and interesting world.

This story is about the son of Lucifer. He’s been kicked out of Hell and is determined to find out who betrayed him while working at Infernal Affairs.

This book was the perfect balance of light and humorous vibes with a dark and gritty feel. If you are looking for a quick read that’s the start to a new series definitely pick this one up.

Read this if you like:
🔥 Fast paced
🖤 Slow burn
🔥 Banter

🔥 Urban fantasy

Luke Teivel, Lucifer’s son and heir, finds himself exiled from Hell and stranded on Earth. He vows to find the one responsible and make him/her pay. Luke works for Infernal Affairs – a covert division of the police that deals with supernatural cases. He and his new partner are investigating one that involves art students and missing souls. Someone is framing Luke with the murders. Could this case be connected to his banishment?

Detective Sorcha O’Malley is transferred to Infernal Affairs after an incident at her previous department. She is assigned to be Luke’s latest partner. Sorcha tries to adjust to the eccentricities of her new workplace and colleagues. Her and Luke’s first case quickly pulls Sorcha into the supernatural world. When he is framed for murder, she helps him clear his name. Will Sorcha be able to settle in within her department?

Luke made the entire story so fun to read. His snarky wisecracks and antics made me giggle continuously. I never knew what to expect him to do next or what sardonic remarks would come out of his mouth. My favorite thing about Luke is that he is more of an antihero than a traditional one. He is not above bending the rules or doing underhanded things to get the necessary clues for his cases. Luke’s mannerisms and quips remind me so much of Tom Ellis’s portrayal of Lucifer. They literally have the same vibe.

Sorcha proves that she is the perfect balance for Luke. She has this steadying influence that seems to mitigate his satirical nature. I like how Sorcha could not stand Luke’s personality at first. Then slowly, she begins to find her groove with him and interact accordingly. I cannot wait for the author to delve more into Sorcha’s lineage and background. She has alluded to two significant events in her past which continue to impact her.

HELL TO PAY is the first book in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s brand-new paranormal series, INFERNAL AFFAIRS. It blends elements of SUPERNATURAL and LUCIFER, especially the cop angle. This series’ tone reminds me of the early DARK-HUNTER books. Same snarky humor, which is the author’s trademark. And quirky and entertaining characters with sarcastic wit and bold personalities. A name from one of the author’s Kinley MacGregor series is mentioned. I freely admit I had a fangirl moment because I recognized the character.

As I told my husband, there is no sex scenes. Yet. There is a lot of innuendo, flirting, and sexual awareness between the two mains. I have a feeling this series is going to be like Nalini Singh’s GUILD HUNTER series, mainly focusing on Luke and Sorcha. Which, I am totally on board with.

4.25stars--HELL TO PAY is the first instalment in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s contemporary, adult INTERNAL AFFAIRS paranormal, urban fantasy series, set in the author’s Dark Hunter worlds. This is Lucifer’s son Lucian ‘Luke ‘Tievel, and detective Sorcha O’Malley’s story line.

Told from omniscient third person perspectives HELL TO PAY follows in the wake of the banishment, with no explanation, of Lucian ‘Luke’ Teivel from Hell. Working for Infernal Affairs, the division of law enforcement policing the supernatural, Luke will meet his new partner in the guise of Detective Sorcha O’Malley, a young woman is something more than human. A number of mysterious deaths point to a possible soul eater, and the local police are determined to point the finger at our story line hero but as Sorcha and Luke begin a deep dive into the victims, a familiarity will lead our couple to world beyond Earth.

The world building follows several pathways including the possibility that Lucian ‘Luke’ Tevel has been targeted. Someone is determined to ensure Luke remains on Earth but Luke is about to discover the there is more to what is happening than he could have possible imagined.

The relationship between Luke and Sorcha begins as partners but Sorcha is new to the job at Infernal Affairs, and Luke will take Sorcha under his wing in an effort to ensure the survival of our story line heroine. There are no $ex scenes, and their barely veiled mutual attraction is aided by a kiss that threatens to reveal the humanity in our story line hero.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, supernatural creatures, many of whom are members of interlocking and mutually exclusive paranormal worlds. We are introduced to Luke’s mother Senka, Georgia Homicide Detective Rory Corvan, Sorcha and Luke’s boss Bernadette Corwin, Captain Elana Reyes, Fae Queen Tanith, and Luke’s ‘imp’ protector Helly. The requisite evil has many faces.

HELL TO PAY is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal, vengeance and jealousy, murder and mayhem, friendships and family. The character driven premise is dramatic and captivating with the added bonus of humorous scenarios and current world vernacular. The characters are numerous, energetic and charismatic. Saying that, there is a strong familiarity akin to the author’s Dark-Hunter series especially as it concerns the relationship between Luke, his mother Senka, his imp ‘Helly’, and our heroine Sorcha.

Vade retro me satana.

An absolute blast!

Think mythology blended with mystery and action, sprinkled with dry wit and humor, then wrapped in sarcasm.
Everything you could want!

It truly has all the elements to keep a reader engaged and on the edge of their seat as they try to put all the pieces together with each new clue.

I was laughing at the antics
Rolling my eyes at Luke’s infernal overinflated ego
Even got a bit frustrated when the answers seemed to lead us right back to the beginning

“I’d like a little credit for my restraint. Which is a lot harder for me than most.”
Luke, Hell’s premier playboy and Satan’s once favorite son, finds himself booted from dad’s domain and tossed to the human plane.
Dropped here stark ‘nekked’ with only his imp, Helly, and thankfully his powers, because that would have been hard to explain to the human authorities.
He wasn’t sure exactly why, because let's be honest, you do not ask hell’s king to justify his actions.
He needs to uncover the culprit, and what better way to do that than to join the IA (Infernal Affairs)?

“There’s a darkness inside you. Don’t let it grow any larger.”
Detective Sorcha, a human with a special skill or two, has been reassigned to the IA.
Not by choice, more like the consequences of her actions.
I guess shooting your partner is frowned upon. Who knew?
She is assigned as a partner to Luke.
Turns out Luke is on his 5th partner in the last year or less
Couldn’t imagine why

Ahhh, let the adventures begin.

This was light on the romance; it’s there, and there is a revelation to their attraction.
But the story is more focused on who is doing the unaliving and why so many clues seem to point to Luke.
We also get to meet some of the cast, as well as an outline of the plot for the series.
Not that you would know because this flowed seamlessly, never pulling me from the main storyline

Back to the cast! This had some of the most diverse and entertaining characters.
I can’t help but rave about them.
You have Helly - “not his parner…I’m his damn-it-dog.” She is my fave!
Delilah, who tends to take the wheel quite a bit.
Kyle, the human detective and one of Luke’s biggest pains in the backside. Who is holding a few of his own secrets.
A closet full of demons - they had me rolling.
Jedi, Rory, Luke’s Mom, and so many more

This is the first in a new series that looks like it’s going to deliver with every episode!

Luke is the son of Lucifer and for unknown reasons has been kicked out of Hell. While trying to figure out who betrayed him, he works for Infernal Affairs, the law enforcement agency that figures out the supernatural crimes.

Sorcha is his new partner, and she definitely gets thrown in the job on her first day with a bunch of supernatural goings on. Including finding out there are demons in the closet at the office. Honestly, though, I don't know how she wasn't laughing at all the things the demons were saying when Luke explained them to her.

There were definitely parts of this book that had me smiling and laughing at the comments that were made. Luke is an antihero that has sarcastic and snarky comments that made me smile and really like him. And then there were parts that were just downright freaky and sad. Like the investigation into what was killing college kids and stealing their souls.

I'm used to reading this authors Dark Hunter romance books so was surprised at first that it's not her typical romance book like those. It's more of a fantasy crime investigation and thriller with the beginnings of what I'm sure will become a romance between Luke and Sorcha later in the series. I like that it wasn't predictable and kept me wondering right along with them, who 's trying to frame Luke for killing the college kids and why do they want him out of the way so badly. I also loved that we got a Dark Hunter cameo in the book, when Luke checked in with one to find out if Daimons were involved in their investigation. That was awesome that the different book series connected like that.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. It reminded me of a combination of the tv shows Lucifer and Supernatural. And I love both of those shows. So, if you like those shows too, then you'll definitely want to read this book.

This was a really fun and fast-paced start to a new urban fantasy series, with just the right mix of chaos, humor, and darker undertones.

Luke is an entertaining lead right from the beginning, cocky, powerful, and clearly not thrilled about his sudden fall from Hell. But there’s more to him than just attitude, and I liked getting glimpses of that as the story went on. Being forced to work for Infernal Affairs (and behave himself…mostly) puts him in situations that bring out both his worst and surprisingly better instincts.

Sorcha is a great counterpart. She doesn’t buy into Luke’s charm or intimidation, and their dynamic has that classic reluctant partnership energy. The banter between them was one of my favourite parts, it keeps things light even when the plot starts getting darker. At the same time, she’s got her own secrets, which adds another layer of tension.

The mystery itself keeps things moving, especially with Luke being the obvious suspect. There’s a good balance between investigation, supernatural elements, and action, and the world-building feels solid without being overwhelming.

Overall, a strong, engaging opener with great character dynamics and plenty of intrigue to build on. Definitely left me curious to see where the series goes next.

Sherrilyn Kenyon launches her new Infernal Affairs series in Hell to Pay, a witty story filled with dark undertones and a whole lot of mystery!

Lucian “Luke” Teivel, the favorite son of Satan, was exiled from Hell with no explanation. Luke was a complex character that spent a lot of time exploring his morality and life choices. Incredibly likable it was clear that succumbing to true evil was not natural to Luke and his struggles with good and evil were defining for his portrayal.

Sorcha O’Malley battled her personal demons on a daily basis. Her integrity and loyalty stood out in the very grey scenario she found herself in as a paranormal detective. This character was someone that exuded depth and secrets, making her very interesting.

The banter between Luke and Sorcha was fun to see and helped move this story along quickly. This couple's connection felt genuine and without pretense. The obvious attraction held at bay between Luke and Sorcha gave this work a nice bit of sizzle.

A lot of this work felt like it was focused on developing Ms. Kenyon’s expansive storyscape. This story at times felt a little under done as Luke and Sorcha navigated their assignments, their mutual attraction and their personal issues in a fairly short space, but that is what sequels are for leaving the door open for more of these captivating characters. The secondary cast in this story were fabulous with lots of charisma that added a wonderful layer to this work and set the stage for future works in this series.

Sherrilyn Kenyon has an extensive catalog of works that are beloved to her devoted fan base. Her rich imagination, depth filled morally and ethically ambiguous characters and snarky wit are her trademarks. The Infernal Affairs series shows a lot of promise as Ms. Kenyon ventures off into a new territory with Hell to Pay!

Hell to Pay by Sherrilyn Kenyon is a fast-paced, darkly entertaining launch to a new urban fantasy series that blends humor, danger, and sizzling chemistry.
From the moment Luke—Lucifer’s rebellious son—is shockingly banished from Hell, the story hooks you with its originality and wit. Kenyon excels at crafting a world where angels, demons, and humans collide, and Infernal Affairs provides the perfect backdrop for chaotic, supernatural crime-solving.
The dynamic between Luke and Detective Sorcha O’Malley is a standout. Their banter is sharp, playful, and charged with tension, balancing Luke’s arrogant charm with Sorcha’s grounded strength. Supporting characters like Helly and Remi add depth and intrigue, making the ensemble just as compelling as the leads.
What truly shines is Kenyon’s character development—Luke is more than a cocky antihero, and Sorcha’s resilience makes her easy to root for. The plot moves quickly, weaving together eerie cases, including a terrifying dire wolf and soul-stealing horrors, creating an immersive, can’t-put-it-down experience.
A thrilling, witty, and addictive read.

HELL TO PAY is the first book in the new series, INFERNAL AFFAIRS, by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Lucifer’s son Lucien (Luke) was kicked out of Hell by his father. When Detective Sorcha O’Malley joins the Infernal Affairs department in Savannah, Georgia, Luke becomes her new partner investigating supernatural crimes. In their first case, they must determine who was framing Luke for a series of gruesome murders. This is a third person, dual POV, paranormal suspense/urban fantasy with tropes including angels, demons, and mythical beings, supernatural crimes, betrayal, framed, dark/damaged hero, enemies to lovers/reluctant partners, spicy banter/attraction, secrets and shadows, super slow burn, and southern gothic atmosphere. This novel was witty, funny, and intriguing and definitely giving the reader that delicious slow burn. There is no steam beyond a kiss in this novel, but based on the world building and level of attraction the main characters shared as well as what usually occurs in this author’s work, I expect that it will be worth the wait. I enjoyed both main characters and the world that the author has created as well as the crossover with her DARK HUNTER series, which I love. The supernatural crime investigation is reminiscent of the Lucifer television series, which I also enjoyed, with the difference being that Sorcha has paranormal abilities of her own. I had a great time reading this book and I’m looking forward to seeing where the author goes with this series. I enthusiastically recommend this novel for readers who enjoy this author’s work or paranormal suspense and criminal investigations with a supernatural twist.

I'm a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon because I've always enjoyed both her humor and the interesting characters she creates. Unfortunately, this entry into a new series seemed long on quips and wisecracks but short on character depth. I loved the idea of the son of Lucifer as part of a law enforcement agency. There are many supernatural characters that he, and his partner, Sorcha, get involved with. But I couldn't connect with the secondary characters as they didn't get enough"screen" time, and with Luke or Sorcha, there were more quips than actual conversation. I finally got into the story about halfway through, when things settled into real character interaction. I think the issue here is that this is a series introduction, which requires some world building and sets up the storyline going forward. I will look for the next book in the series, now that the overall story caught my interest. There are some Christian overtones, with one of the characters saying "Jesus is Lord", for those who care.

Ok, first things first, this is a stand-alone book that takes place in the same world as the Dark Hunter's. You'll see similar beings mentioned and some character names from the Dark Hunter's series. However, that being said, you do not need to have read any of the Dark Hunter's books...yet...I haven't opened a Dark Hunter book in years and now feel the need to go back and double check on things in this series. Secondly, yes, this book has quite the cliffhanger; having said that, enjoy the book and let me tell you, it's great! Both the FMC and the MMC are flawed but great together. It's definitely a multi-series slow burn. Super enjoyed that part of the book, all tbe tension between Sorcha and Luke is great. The side characters are hilarious as is all the banter throughout the book! Is it March 2027 yet so I can get a hold of the sequel? No, whelp read this intro into this start of a great new series and love it from start to cliffhanger. Like any Sherrilyn Kenyon novel, it's great and you won't be disappointed!.

My first Sherrilyn Kenyon book was a Dark Hunter story and after reading one devoured every other book in the series. While, I have enjoyed Sherrilyn's other books, there was always something about DH books and that something shows in this book.
I dont want to spoil but the small crossover made a squeal with excitement. The characters in this book are unique and layered and flawed. Helly had a little Simi vibe going on but she was still her own demon. Luke's backstreet made have had shades of Ash but only shades. Luke is a fabulous hero or anti-hero with some truly on the nose traits but others that surprise. Sorcha was also awesome but we need more. We even had a classic red herring who might have been the Big Bad.
This book set us up for more and I can't wait for more books and for the show. Although, I picture another man in the role of Luke but he might be too on the nose. I completely recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this start to this new series! Luke is my favorite kind of MC, snarky, an uber hot rascal, and I just can't wait to dive deeper into his backstory!
Then there is Sorcha, who is the perfect match for Luke, she is just as smart and full of sass as he is, and I can't wait to learn all about her, especially the stuff even she doesn't know yet. I loved all the characters, Helly and the demons had me laughing out loud, and they mystery was well plotted and I had fun going along for the ride as they solved the gruesome crimes.
I also loved that we got a bit of crossover with us getting to meet a Dark-Hunter!
I'm really excited to continue with this series, and can't wait for the next one!.

It felt like I was reading this one forever. I get that it's the first book in a new series, so lots of world building, but I was often bored and would put the book down. It did grow on me, but it took 3/4 of the book to do that.

Luke was ok, kinda of a whiney bitch at times, some times funny, most of the time was not aware of how privileged of a life he had until recently. The last was nice for him to see small parts of that. Sorcha was interesting from the start and did a good job of just going with things at her new job, with a new partner and learning all sorts of things that boggled her mind, like where the real holy ground was.

And sure they figured out things on the case they worked, but it also felt like they didn't. I will probably check out the next book, but it will be a make or break book for me on if I keep reading the series.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read a book by this author, so I was excited to see a new series by her. I had forgotten just how good she an author she is until I read the first paragraph and was hooked from then on. We meet Luke and Sorcha, and man what a pair! I like how we are at first only given a glimpse of the surface of these two, but as the book continues, we see how much depth and personality there is to be explored. I didn’t realize until after I’d finished this that this Luke reminds me a little bit of Lucifer from the show…but they aren’t much alike inside. I loved this starting book in the series, and I really hope there are a lot more. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Hell to Pay book 1 of new series Infernal Affairs by Sherrilyn Kenyon is a really fun, fast-paced, dark New Urban Fantasy I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The premise is Luke (MMC) gets kicked out of Hell (he's the Devil's son) and is forced to work for Infernal Affairs. Luke is a great character very powerful, very cocky and so entertaining, Sorcha (FMC) is a great partner (Infernal Affairs partner) and doesn't take any of his BS and his charm doesn't work on her. It's a multilayer mystery and I couldn't put it down! Ms. Kenyon has entertained me for years and always hooks me from the first page! I can wait for more!

I so enjoyed reading this first book in a new series by Sherrilyn Kenyon who is an author on my auto buy list. I thought the unique world building within a world we are already a part of is something that drew me in and shows great potential for future books. The characters had me laughing out loud and gave off the tv show Lucifer vibes to me. I loved the concept of Infernal Affairs, the mysteries needing solved, the slow burn of a possible romance between the main characters and the uniqueness of the crimes.

Loved this book! Sherrilyn Kenyon has created a great world as an extension to her Dark Hunter series. This one was more in the realm of fantasy instead of romance. There wasn’t as much smut or angst. Instead, there was more world building and character development that sets up the rest of the series. Lots of interesting backstory and hilarious demons. While it wasn’t quite a cliffhanger, the ending definitely leaves room for more. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next book.

This was a fantastic start to a new series! Great characters that are complex and interesting. It has great world building that falls alongside one of my favorite series she writes. The mystery is intriguing and keeps you guessing. There is a bit of romance but it's a slow burn and not steamy, but oh the anticipation. I honestly think this is the best story the author has written in a long time. I was just completely invested. The next book can't come quick enough!.

This book is a sharp, fast-paced supernatural thriller with irresistible humor and heart. Luke, Lucifer’s banished son, is a fantastic antihero sarcastic, dangerous, and oddly relatable, while Sorcha is the perfect grounded, complex counterbalance. The mystery is gripping, the banter crackles, and the stakes keep rising in the best way. Packed with action, secrets, and a devilishly clever plot, this is an entertaining must-read for fans of urban fantasy and paranormal crime.

A funny read from a veteran writer. Been in a reading slump for so long before reading this and this book made me fall in love again with reading. A beautiful writing style, with quirky main characters, a lot of sarcastic dialogues and sticky situations, a lot of banter between the MC's and a slow burn to make you blush. Read this in one sitting, it was that good. So glad I picked this up for a short and fast read. Can't wait for book 2 in the series to come out.

This book was so funny. Think of the show Lucifer and you’ll have a good idea of Luke. He’s snarky and funny all at the same time. Sorcha is a great partner for him and complements his humor really well.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for more! As with all of her books, Kenyon has nailed the plot and created a perfect balance that feels like it’s building toward an epic series.

What a fun book to read. Great characters that can’t wait to see more of them in the next book.
I was worried at first that I would not enjoy this book with the Bible talk in it. I do not enjoy a book pushing religion on people. Glad that stopped early.

I think Helly will be one of the best characters.

This book is a lot. It pulls together every creature, order, and myth it can find—and then invents a few more. Luke and Scorcha set out to investigate two murders, but it’s boring as hell—pun intended. The author really leans into every bad joke about hell along the way.
Another thing I don’t understand is their relationship. I’m almost at the end, and they’ve only known each other for two days. What are we supposed to believe can realistically develop in that time?
Overall, it’s just boring.

Bring back the darkhunters

I was not a fan. I love Sherrilyn but this book did nothing for me. It felt empty and the characters did not seem fully developed. There was so much potential but it fell short for me. It was readable. Read it for yourself. You may love it. It just was not for me. I sill love you Sherrill.
