When crime reporter Jack Stern brings to Maggie Lee’s attention that someone she once helped has been arrested for being a porch pirate, she feels obligated to solve the mystery of the missing packages.

Assisted by Rowdy, the teenage raccoon who believes herself to be a semi-professional thief, and Mike, the tough guy crow with a penchant for pilfering shiny things, Maggie tracks down the real robber. And inadvertently stumbles into a ring of ruthless criminals who aren’t just greedy…they’re evil.

Once again I am astounded by all that happens in Maggie Lee's world. She barely sleeps or eats, yet she never fails to support her family! This exciting book had everything imaginable thrown on her shoulders, yet everything was resolved. I loved the combination of animals that assisted her as she brought down porch pirates, prevented a double homicide, thereby exposing a murderer, located two kidnapped victims, helped multiple members of her family, supported the first yoga class her aunt taught, and more!
I LOVE this series, especially Maggie, all the animals, family members, her friends, and most of all Nat Hunting! Each book is a wonderful blend of characters, animals, and intrigue!

Great series

This book was packed with adventure and familial love. Animal love always comes into play with Maggie but this book shows all of us how a little love goes a long way.

A crow wing and a prayer…
Maggie is at it again - saving her world utilizing one different animal at a time. This time it’s porch pirates, a man Maggie avoided assassinating, yoga class, some pepper, and a missing boyfriend.

Talk about loyal. Maggie is as loyal as they come. Unfortunately that cannot only get her into deadly trouble, but also it stresses her the heck out! However, I’m understanding more and more through every adventure of every book that Maggie is accepting of her stressful situations. In fact, I’m pretty sure she thrives on all the action. Maybe she’s a masochist. Maybe she’s a bit of a martyr. Whatever she is, she gets the job done and still manages to get to dinner - with her huge family - on time.

I’ve gotten upset with Maggie (sometimes I forget she’s not an actual person, rather she’s a character in a book) more than a dozen times for allowing just about everyone to take advantage of her. Yes, she ALLOWS everyone to take advantage, because the reality is that Maggie could listen to her animals advice and just tell the people, “No.” But that isn’t her style. She helps anyone who asks her to be there for them. Because if Maggie doesn’t save the day, who will?

I’ll tell you who will! Maggie’s animal defense team. Yes, that’s what I said. Maggie can communicate with animals. Where everyone around her hears loud squeaking, Maggie hears words coming out of her anole lizard’s mouth. And the meowing, Maggie hears words of advice from a southern accent, proper lady cat nicknamed Piss. Then there’s Rowdy, a spunky adolescent raccoon with a knack for quickly taking things that don’t belong to her (um, stealing). Maggie has many more animal friends and they all have different personalities, some with accents. I know them all and I love them all.

JB Lynn has a great way of bringing all the people and all the animals to life. There are at least 20 different personalities contained in each book and I know them all. I would love to go to Maggie’s house to hang out with her. Her home actually reminds me of life at my grandparents house when I was a young child. I’ll skip the days she’s on a job or out saving someone’s life, thank you very much. But on one of her calm days, I’d love to walk around with gramps and help him on the farm while talking to Irma the donkey, Matilda the pig, Billy the goat, Mike the crow, Alejandro the llama, Percival the peacock, etc etc.

Well that wraps it up. A+ to another book with another few adventures.

See you in my next book thoughts review.

what the heck

Maggie seemed to have a full plate from the last book that ran over into this one. This full on caper came on from her not doing her job then was added to the porch pirate because she cared about a person from a previous job.

I honestly believe half of this could have been in the last book and there should have been more to the story than there was.

Maggie is intertwined in an investigation involving Jack, Patrick, Whitehat, & a teenager from her past while trying to carry out an order by Delveccio. Overwhelmed as usual she and the animals work together to get things taken care of. A little bland of a story than usual but still entertaining. On to the next one which releases 3/26/26

The Hitwoman series is pure joy!

I have read all 53 books and many more than once. It’s a pretty special writer who can create characters, comedy and weave a mystery together that impossible to solve early in the book. This is feel-good escapism from whatever is trblesome in your world. ENJOY!

Loyalty

Maggie is many things and loyal might be her best quality. She gets herself in a lot of trouble because of her loyalty to her family, friends and animals. Luckily her animals always have her back. When an old friend gets herself into a jam, her reporter friend gets involved in saving the young girl and White Hat calls her into action, what else can Maggie do except help?

This is another fun caper featuring our favorite hitwoman. Maggie finds herself juggling many balls in this novel - everything from a porch pirate stealing medications to a monster ordering her to kill someone. Add in the crazier than usual family hijinxs and you'd better hold on tight because it's a wild ride. Despite all the insane situations, Maggie somehow seems to be the most mature member of her family.
Fans of the genre will love this one. The author is on my must read authors' lit.

Maggie takes on another job for Delveccio, and helping Jack Stern, sleep isn’t happening. This series is pure chaos in the best possible way — packed with family drama, sharp banter, and laugh-out-loud moments from start to finish. I’m already counting down to Maggie’s next wild adventure!

Haphazardly Planned

The book was good but her plans and victories/rescues were so haphazard. I would appreciate it if she would at least successfully plan one deliberate murder or rescue. As always her assassin minded accomplices makes up for all her weaknesses.

Porch pirates oh my!

This was a fast paced and interesting read. It brought back a few characters from previous books, such as Michelle and Eve. Of note, I think this is the first book in the entire series where Scrabble tiles were not used as clues.

More Maggie Lee please

I have all the books in this series, I read them as soon as they are published. The characters and story line are well written (and I include the animals in that). This book was two hours of relaxation.

She takes care of her family and the porch pirates!

This one was so good! They are all good, but everybody being there for each other like family and friends do, had me tearing up a few times. Great ending, I can't wait for the next! Please keep them coming!

Maggie usually has me laughing so hard I wake my husband. This book needed more substance. I want Maggie to get together with. Nat.

Hilarious and sweet

Another fun misadventure with Maggie and her friends. Even Aunt Susan softens a little. A little hint of romance and lots of love and family support.
