A hilarious and heartwarming rom-com with bite… perfect for fans of Abby Jimenez and Mhairi McFarlane! Somehow, inexplicably, her cold skin makes mine ignite, a trail of fire following the path of her fingers until she lets go of my chin and the flames burn out.

Undead phlebotomist Florence has sworn off dating humans ever since her last boyfriend upped and died on her. After all, it’s not easy finding your happily ever after when you’re a vampire.

So when she meets a handsome stranger in a bar, things get complicated. Even more so, when he turns up at her clinic the very next day…

But bartender Quinn has his own problems too. Neither of them are looking for love, but unfortunately they’re just each other’s type. Blood type, that is.

Just My Blood Type is a cozy paranormal romcom that will have you laughing and kicking your feet. The writing is light and easy to get into. This is the kind of book that you can just sit back and enjoy without having to think too hard.

All of the characters were incredibly likable but Quinn was my absolute favorite. He is a human who falls fast and is ready to marry pretty much any girl who gives him the time of day. Watching him try to woo Florence (a vampire who has completely sworn off dating humans) was both hilarious and somewhat chaotic.

There were plenty of moments in this book that had me genuinely laughing out loud and I thought that the flirty banter was top tier. I would absolutely recommend picking this up if you’re looking for something fun and romantic.

Title: Just My Blood Type

Author: Katherine Dyson-I read Love at First Bite and gave it 5⭐

Publication date: 5/15/26 | Read: 5/14/26

Format: e-Book 384 pgs.

Genre:
*Fantasy
*Paranormal Romance

Tropes:
*friends to lovers
*vampire h/ human H
*slow burn
*found family
*age gap
*gothic haunted abbey

POV: 1st person dual

TW: toxic parent-H, death of loved one-h, grief, murder, blood phobia-H

Setting: Whitby/Northern England

Summary: When Florence meets Quinn at Bitten vampire bar, he looks just like her fiancé who died 150 years ago. Florence works at a blood donation/outpatient clinic and Quinn reluctantly comes to get his blood drawn after feeling sick. When he's faced with life or death, Florence takes him under her wing as a friend to make his decision, but is she willing to break her "no dating humans" rule for him?

Heroine: Florence Gwendolyn Everett- 177-yr old turned vampire at 26, now a phlebologist who stopped dating humans after Josiah's death.

Hero: Joe "Quinn"-30, a bartender @ Bitten vampire themed bar, infected w/ vampiric blood becoming sicker, has choice to turn or die. Has proposed three times & falls in love too fast.

Other Characters:
*Josiah Quinn- Florence's ex-fiancé, died 150 years ago. A distant relative of Quinn
*Cam-169-yr old vampire, a Dr who works @ blood clinic w/ Florence
*Bram-16-yr old as a vampire who owns Bitten, Quinn's boss, married to Lucy
*Elias-400-yr old vampire who turned Bram into a vampire
*Emma and Fox-bartenders @ Bitten
*Robyn-Quinn's ex-wife, married 2 years, just finalized divorced
*Mina Morris- Bram's cousin/Lucy's BFF, a journalist
*Sammi-Bram's business manager/ lawyer
*Abby-Quinn's vampire ex-gf, didn't know she was a vampire

My Thoughts: This was another cozy, vampire/human pairing, and friends to lovers romance. I loved Florence as Quinn's "guide" into vampirism. He had to make an impossible decision, but he didn't mind spending time with Florence. Some characters from book one made an appearance with Bram & Lucy, Elias, and Cam. This was a feel-good, adult read and I hope for more in this world.

Rating: 5/5⭐
Spice level: 3/5🔥open door, nothing explicit

This is a five star read for simply how sweet it was. It was heartbreaking at times but those sweet moments were better because of it. Quinn and Florence’s chemistry was beautiful in so many ways and the fact that they didn’t jump into anything like Quinn’s past lovers really showed that Florence really did make Quinn a better man.

Florence was a woman (also a vampire) who would not be deterred to date a human but in walks Quinn, looking like her ex-fiancé’s doppelgänger, and it all goes out the window. These two are drawn to each other from the first glance and was like a red string through out the book. Quinn is supposed to be this jovial character that wears his heart on his sleeve, saying I love you at the drop of a hat but it’s a cover for how vulnerable he actually is. That hit me right in the feels. He wants this connection to someone and Florence is his other half because she hasn’t felt connected to anyone since the love of her life died over 100 years ago. But with this new medical dilemma for Quinn, can they keep their connection simply platonic or will that string pull too tight to stop it from ruining them both?

Their banter in this book was really sweet. I cannot stop saying that because it wasn’t bickering or jabs really at each other. It was this foundation of a friendship that they both knew was more. I will never be over how they both tried to make the most of Quinn’s humanity, not knowing if it would be his last day or not. Florence would literally do anything for Quinn in this book, even bringing the beach to him and I was melting because of it.

The connection between these two was so deep, right time and right person, it was like it was fate. And I can’t say smut was written in this book. It was so much deeper than that. The way that Katherine Dyson wrote these two finally coming together was like poetry. The way that Florence describes being with Quinn, listening to his heartbeat and not feeling hollow during it was so beautiful. And Quinn, all his past lovers were no match to the feelings that Florence brought out in him.

4.5 stars

I was lucky enough to have read the ARC for the first book in this series with Lucy and Bram so I jumped at the opportunity to read Quinn’s story. This was a most delicious, heartfelt, slow burn between a man looking for love in all the wrong places and a vampire who has loved and lost and vowed to never love again because she didn’t think she could survive it a second time. I read this book slowly because I wanted to savor it, also because their stories tugged at something in my heart that made me cry a whole lot. Florence has spent her whole life helping others and being unable to save the love of her life after an accident broke something in her. Quinn has spent his adult life jumping from fast moving relationship to fast moving relationship chasing a love he could only dream about, and then he met Florence. Florence who he was certain was the love of his life, small problem in that Florence didn’t date humans. The fact that Quinn looked almost exactly like her dead fiancé after she moved back to town and started hearing his voice? Well that certainly didn’t help matters. What’s a vampire girl to do when you are convinced you might be going insane but confront what you believe to be your long dead fiancé of course. What ensues is a story steeped in longing, in heartbreak and in the power of terrifying second chances at love. This was a slow burn strangers to friends to lovers with a mystery element that had my anxiety so peaked I put down the book for a whole day to give my nervous system a break. All that to say, I loved it. I love that they were so good together and so good for each other. They balanced each other out and in a way, helped each other heal in ways they didn’t know they needed. It was also a story about the love of community and found family and letting people in to love you even when things get scary and you want to shield them from that reality. I loved every moment of their story, even the ones that made me anxious. If you’re looking for a paranormal romance that will burrow its way into your heart and tug at your heart strings, one that makes you scream “BRING BACK REAL YEARNERS!!”, this is the book for you.

Love At First Bite was a charming vampire x human romance, and this was such a great follow-up to it!

I liked how in this installment, Quinn learns Florence is a vampire pretty much straight away. My biggest gripe with the first book was that it didn’t feel like Bram needed to be a vampire, with how little it impacted his life, so I appreciated that Florence being a vampire was a bigger deal in this story.

We then get to watch Florence and Quinn fall for each other, while trying to (unsuccessfully!) fight their feelings for each other. This is because Florence has sworn off dating humans (after losing the love of her life decades previously) and Quinn has a bad habit of jumping into relationships with the wrong people - there’s also te fact he hates anything to do with blood. A problem he needs to overcome if he wants to date a vampire who works as a phlebotomist!

Their relationship is sweet, but chaotic and I really enjoyed their witty banter. They have a lot of chemistry and deep love for each other, which was lovely to see.

There are also some really heart-breaking moments in this book, as Quinn faces a massive medical dilemma and has some tough choices to make.

I also enjoyed the appearance of Lucy and Bram, as well as a lot of other characters from the first book. Mina and Elias together never fail to crack me up and I’m really hoping we get their story soon!

Katherine Dyson's writing is just perfection to me, and she writes the most beautiful characters! The main characters of Just My Blood Type, Quinn and Florence, just really hit me emotionally, and they make such a perfect match. Quinn, a human bartender at a vampire themed bar, is known for rushing into love, and has just got divorced when he meets Florence, a vampire who lost her only love a long time ago. Their story just develops really naturally and I was so invested in their relationship, from the very first page!

I had such an amazing time with Love at First Bite in February (a one evening binge, if I remember correctly!), so I couldn't resist getting into Just My Blood Type as soon as the ARC approval email came in, no matter how many ARCs I still have unread with earlier release dates! I adored this book just as much as the first, and I'm so glad I didn't wait until closer to release to pick it up because I know I would have absolutely kicked myself for waiting!

The two books definitely work as standalones. The two main characters from Love At First Bite, Bram and Lucy, do appear in Just My Blood Type, but you definitely don't need to read Love At First Bite before picking up Just My Blood Type. So don't let that stop you from picking up this amazing book!

I would highly recommend both books to paranormal romance lovers. The main characters in both books are so beautifully written, and they feel so unique too, and when you read as many PNRs as I do, that doesn't happen very often!

⭐⭐⭐¼ — A Rom‑Com With Fangs (Sort Of)

Just My Blood Type is an interconnected story set in the same universe as Love at First Bite, and if you’ve read my review of that first book, you already know I felt personally victimised that a “vampire rom‑com” had a suspicious lack of vampires doing… anything. So imagine my delight when this installment actually commits to the bit. The vampire plot is central, the FMC is the vampire this time, and honestly, that alone felt like a breath of fresh (undead) air.

The conversational, fourth‑wall‑break style is still present—and still occasionally cringe—but I was weirdly more tolerant this time around. Maybe I’ve built up immunity. Maybe it’s Stockholm syndrome. Hard to say.

I’ve also accepted that the on‑the‑nose character naming is simply part of the ecosystem now. I’m choosing peace. I’m choosing maturity. I’m choosing to not throw my Kindle. Yes, the FMC is a phlebotomist named Florence. Yes, named after that Florence. We’re all just going to have to live with it and move on with our lives.

As for the plot, the conflict once again wraps up a little too quickly and neatly, echoing the first book’s tendency to sprint through resolution. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it does leave things feeling a touch undercooked. Stakes? Tension? We hardly knew you.

Still, this is a charming rom‑com—lighthearted, easy to breeze through, and genuinely fun in the moments where it leans into its own absurdity. A solid, entertaining read, even if it doesn’t quite sink its teeth in as deeply as it could—but hey, at least this time it remembered to bring the fangs.

3,5 ★ — After “Love at first bite” didn’t quite hit for me, I was hesitant but excited to dive into the second book of this interconnected series. And I was very happy to see that not only has the author managed to keep the things I liked the most about the first book (the cozy and gothic vibe and the quirky banter), but she has also improved the aspects I liked the least (the pacing and the vampirism)!
So I’ve definitely liked this much more than the first book.

Especially for the vampirism… If Bram seemed more like a normal guy with plastic fangs and sunglasses, Florence here is a vampire phlebotomist in her 200s. There’s no secrets between the MCs, which I appreciated, and there is a mystery that keeps you hooked.

It was a sweet and original story, but there were still some things that I didn’t like.

Mainly, the trope. Quinn being a distant relative of Florence’s dead fiancé AND looking exactly like him made me uncomfortable. I kept hoping for a big twist that revealed they were actually the same person. But no, it never came.
Also, just like in “Love at first bite”, the two fall in love after just a few interactions, which I don’t really like, even though the author makes it feel very natural both times.
(But Quinn saying that he has to stop proposing after the second date and he has to take things more slowly while also saying “I love you” after a few dates gave me the ick).

Still, it was a very fun and easy read and I had a nice time with it. Now I’m curious to see if there will be more books - one about Mina and Elias would be so interesting!

Just My Blood Type is a sharp, fast-moving story that leans into dark obsession, danger, and that uneasy pull between attraction and something far more destructive.

From the start, there’s an immediate sense that nothing here is going to be clean or safe. The story has a biting intensity to it, where relationships feel charged in a way that’s more volatile than comforting. I really liked that edge—there’s a constant undercurrent that things could tip at any moment, and that keeps the tension high throughout.

The romance sits firmly in that messy, almost addictive space where logic and emotion don’t always line up. It’s not gentle or soft; it feels more like a fixation that builds momentum whether the characters are ready for it or not. That push-and-pull dynamic worked well for the tone, especially when things start to spiral.

There’s a darker psychological layer running through the story as well, touching on control, desire, and the blurred line between wanting someone and being consumed by them. I did find myself wanting a bit more depth in certain emotional beats, especially when things escalated quickly, but the intensity helps carry it forward.

Pacing is one of its strongest points. The story moves quickly, keeping a tight focus on tension and escalation rather than lingering too long in any one place. That makes it an easy read to fall into, even when the content gets heavier or more uncomfortable.

If there’s a critique, it’s that some of the emotional development feels slightly compressed—like the story is more interested in impact than slow buildup in a few key moments. But that also feeds into its chaotic, high-energy feel.

Florence and Quinn are the heart of this story, each bringing their own emotional baggage and quirks to the table. Florence, a vampire with a history of heartbreak and a career rooted in helping others, finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Quinn, a human who’s endured his own share of romantic disappointments. Their connection is complicated by Florence’s reluctance to love again and Quinn’s struggle to let go of his idealistic view of relationships.

This book offers a lighthearted paranormal romance with a unique twist—vampires and medical intrigue—but I found the author’s writing style detracted from my enjoyment. I am not a fan of first-person narrative, and this one goes one step further because it is a dual POV narrative which didn’t deliver distinct voices, making the perspectives blend together and feel repetitive. Additionally, the characters “breaking the fourth wall” disrupted the flow and pulled me out of the narrative, making it difficult to fully immerse myself in the characters’ experiences. Overall, the premise is fun, and the romance has its sweet moments, but there are times when the story feels overly convenient and lacks lasting tension, leaving me wishing for deeper emotional stakes. This is the second book in an interconnected series, but I didn’t read the first book and didn’t feel that it affected my reading experience.

Thank you to Katherine Dyson, One More Chapter and NetGalley for a copy of this EARC in exchange for my honest review.

5 stars for Just My Blood Type by Katherine Dyson!

When I heard that Love at First Bite was getting a sequel, I was checking NetGalley constantly hoping for a chance to read and review it. I absolutely adored the first book, and I’m so happy to say that Just My Blood Type completely lived up to my expectations.

In this installment, we meet Florence, a 177-year-old vampire phlebotomist returning to Whitby for a fresh start. And our MMC? None other than Quinn, the lovable, puppy-like bartender working at the very on-brand vampire bar Bitten!

What I loved most was the journey both characters went on and the way they became such an important support system for each other. Their relationship felt genuine, and watching them help each other grow made their character arcs even more satisfying. I also loved the little glimpses we got of characters from book one, it made returning to this world feel extra cozy and familiar.

The medical mystery woven throughout the story was such a fun addition and added an extra layer of intrigue to the plot. I especially enjoyed learning more about the vampire lore in Katherine Dyson’s universe, which balances supernatural elements with such a lighthearted, cozy atmosphere.

I already cannot wait for book three and I have a strong suspicion about who it’s going to focus on next.

Please pick this series up! It’s quickly becoming one of my favourite reads of the year.

This is my second book by Katherine Dyson and she continues to absolutely nail these fun, slightly chaotic paranormal romances.

Quinn is the kind of man who’s always believed in love… but after one failed relationship after another (including a divorce), he’s finally ready to be done chasing it.

Florence, on the other hand, has already loved and lost in the most devastating way…and after everything she’s been through, dating humans again is completely off the table.

So naturally… these two end up colliding.

What I loved about this one is how unique the premise feels without ever getting too heavy. There’s this underlying mystery surrounding Quinn’s health and what’s happening to him, layered with Florence’s past and the emotional weight she carries, but it’s all balanced with humor, banter, and that “this is a terrible idea but I want you anyway” tension.

And the connection between them? Messy, complicated, a little ironic… and so fun to watch unfold.

It’s a quick, entertaining read that leans into its quirks while still giving you just enough emotional depth to stay invested. Definitely one of those books you pick up for something light and end up flying through.

If you’re into paranormal rom-coms with a twist, a bit of mystery, and characters who absolutely weren’t planning on falling for each other… this one is such a fun time.

I am comfortable saying that this vampire series is one of my new favourites. I am absolutely obsessed and somehow I loved Just My Blood Type even more than the first one.

Florence is a vampire phlebotomist, which if that isn’t the most perfect thing ever- what is? Quinn is our resident bartender at the Vampire bar and he is an adorable. Florence has avoided love since her hums Fiancee died over a hundred years ago, but after meeting Quinn, seems like she won’t be avoiding it much longer.

I loved these two, but especially Quinn. He was so sweet and romantic and just wanted love. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he’s unashamed to fall in love fast and a lot. I don’t feel like I read a lot of MMCs who are just tried and true romantics and I loved it.

Florence was so sweet and quiet, but so guarded. After losing her Fiancee and then starting her undead life- she’s so cautious with people, especially humans. So the juxtaposition between her and Quinn is perfection.

I like Katherine Dyson’s take on vampirism too, of course there’s so many interpretations on it. But she dos a great job in my opinion and I love that the Vampires can go out in the sun, but need like spf 500. I really hope there’s another instalment, I don’t even care who it’s about, I just want more!!

If you like paranormal romance, he falls first, and golden retriever MMCs- this is for you. I don’t doubt you’ll love it.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so when I was sent this ARC I was immediately ready to dive into book two, and it did not disappoint.

A vampire phlebotomist and a human with a fear of blood? LITERALLY a match made in heaven.

I had so much fun with Florence and Quinn. Their chemistry was instant, but it was the banter that really sold me, funny, witty, and with that slightly dark & dry sense of humour that I always love. Their dynamic just worked so well, and I found myself smiling through so many of their interactions.

The plot also kept things really engaging. I loved the added mystery element, it gave the story momentum and kept me hooked beyond just the romance. And honestly, I’m such a sucker for this kind of vampire story. It’s wholesome, it’s funny, it's quirky, it’s swoony… and I am absolutely here for it.

The paranormal element added an extra emotional layer that really deepened the story and made the characters feel even more real and relatable, which I loved.

And I have to say… I may be overthinking it, but are we getting little crumbs with Elias and Mina??? Because I am very much intrigued.

This was a hilarious, heart-filled rom-com that puts a fresh (and slightly bloody) spin on love. If that is your vibe, add this one to your TBR!

I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins, One More Chapter division, for this ARC read.

I won't lie to you, my expectations were low but what a lovely fun read this turned out to be! I was sure I could predict from the blurb where it was going but I was so happy to be wrong!

We follow Florence, a vampire working in the NHS. She is working through life with her vampire friends and ghost fiancé (stay with me here), who she lost to a mining accident back in the 1800s before they were to be wed... so pretty normal existence right? Until she heads one night to the local vampire themed bar, only to be stopped in her tracks at the slight of her very living fiancé serving drinks and stealing toilet paper.

This book understood the brief, the perfect blend of unserious, self aware characters, while still encouraging the reader to read just one more chapter (and then you realise it's 3am and you have work tomorrow).
Perfect for lovers of
- romance stories with a fresh twist
- vampire x human romance (Where the vampire is the FMC)
- a little insta love (but I will say, as a hater of all things insta love, this was done in a perfect way that just made sense without making me cringe at the lust)
- a found family with so much potential for spin off stories
- an epilogue that actually feels nice and logical for the characters and the story

All in all Katherine Dyson is an author I will happily be following and reading all her future work!

katherine dyson i freaking love you

this is everything i've ever wanted.

the banter? god-tier. the character development? fantastic. the love story? one for the ages.

this book was even better than the first one, which i absolutely loved but had some (very) minor issues with. just my blood type took those issues, said "bet", and fixed them. with love at first bite, i was left feeling like i needed to know more about the vampirism part of the book and how it worked exactly, how it affected the vampires in their day-to-day lives. and here, i got exactly what i wanted and more. florence and quinn were wonderful narrators and protagonists, and both their perspectives felt so unique and important to understand the book. we have someone who is a seasoned vampire, and someone who knows vampires but isn't one (yet). we find out more about how turning into a vampire works!! who can turn someone!! we see an older vampire!!

as for the romance, it was everything i wanted out of a book like this. florence and quinn have so much chemistry and so much respect, understanding, and patience for one another. they got each other, knew each other so well, and were so mutually supportive from start to finish. i loved watching them fall in love.

i'm so happy to say that this ticked all the boxes. i loved it so much!!

thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review!

ARC review. 4.75 star read ⭐️

This series solidifies the fact I’m still a vampire girl.

It’s funny, lighthearted, and relatable.
The way Kathrine writes her vampires feels fresh and believable; the setting definitely helps bring the vampire element to life. As Whitby has a deep history of vampire novels, etc., it’s done in a way that makes sense. It feels natural.

This book follows Quinn and Florence.

Quinn is a hopeless romantic who is impulsive in love. As a result, he is now divorced at 30. He is a Whitby resident working for Bram (the main character from the previous book) at Bitten.
Florence is a vampire and has been for a while. She’s experienced loss, and it clings to her, consumes her, and she struggles to move past it. She’s scared to love. She works as a phlebotomist in Whitby and has recently moved back.

I loved the story behind this book; it was beautiful. It had a layer of mystery which added emotional depth. The tension towards the end had me holding my breath with anticipation. It had me experiencing a roller coaster of emotions, and I read this book within 24 hours.

The romance is tender and sweet and utterly captivating. I really like the dynamic between these two characters.
I love this series so much and cannot wait to read more from the Whitby vampires!

I loved this, like a lot a lot. I loved the vibe of these two together, they fit really well and they are just the absolute sweetest together. Like their chemistry was just through the roof since the first moment they met. I'm obsessed with Quinn and yes he can come on a bit strong, he means well and he changed his way with Florence, because they just were meant to be and she made him a better man (also: slutty little glasses...). I felt like Florence's grief was really beautifully written and handled so well. I wanted to give her all the hugs, because yes she had friends, but she made sure to not get too close to any men (well except VIP Cam of course), because she was afraid to get hurt again, but she opened herself up to Quinn anyways, because like I said: meant to be!!!! I just cannot and will not get over how cute these two are together.
The story was absolutely beautiful, I loved the characters - both main and side - and I thought the plot was just really interesting and moving.

As for a possible next book in this universe: I am, once again, begging for Elias' book (with Mina?)... please please pretty pleaseeeeee.

Thank you Katherine Dyson and One More Chapter for the ARC!!

“Confirm your date of birth… sharp scratch… all done.”

A vampire phlebotomist? Brilliant.

When Not Your Blood Type popped up as a potential ARC, I practically squealed. I absolutely adored the first book, and while these can be read as standalones, they pair together so perfectly.

Back in the friendly vampire-infested Whitby, we meet Florence, an older vampire who’s already given her heart once… only for him to up and die (rude). Enter our MMC, Quin, a hopeless romantic, and suddenly we’re swept into a mix of mysterious illness, squeamish blood phobias, and a story that’s far more heartwarming than you’d expect from something with this much bite.

These books are the perfect holiday romcom reads, palette cleansers after a heavy book or must haves for anyone who loves a paranormal romance. Engaging, fun, and completely moreish. They’re low stakes, low intensity, but still utterly addictive. My only issue is that I didn't want it to end.

I cannot wait to read more from this Author. I'm obsessed.

Thank you Netgalley, the Publisher and Katherine Dyson for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Just My Blood Type by Katherine Dyson - Minor spoilers - This book is a slow burn romance filled with philosophical discussions about life, death, and what is gained and lost when you transition from human to vampire. Early on, you find out that the MMC is going to either have to become a vampire or die, and trying to become a vampire may kill him. As he tries to figure out his choice, he takes on a mentor, the FMC, who has been a vampire for 150 years. She tries to help him but ends up spending most of her time working out her own issues about death and vampirism. Overall this book was very well written and explores a lot of the issues involved with death and the dark side of vampirism. The story did include a number of light hearted moments, but I feel like there was too much focus on the more melancholy subjects to be considered a rom-com.

Just My Blood Type releases on May 15th, 2026. Thank you to Katherine Dyson and UK Collins, One More Chapter for the advanced reader’s copy!

Notes:
-1st person POV (FMC and MMC)
-Open door spice scenes
-Golden Retriever/Black Cat couple
-Some blood (car accident)

I really love paranormal romances that are just lighthearted and unserious, where you can read and laugh, and this just hit the mark. What’s a more ridiculously funny pairing than a vampire and a guy who is afraid of seeing a little bit of blood? Add in a pinch of fate situation, a man who couldn’t not be a flirt even if his life depended on it, a vampire who’s day job involve drawing blood from people, and also maybe a ghost, this was funny from A to Z and I had a blast reading it.

The story was interesting, quite original for a vampire book which I enjoyed. But most importantly, one thing I had really liked in the previous book by the same author was how natural the two characters falling for each other felt, and I was really glad that it was once again the case here. There is an ease in how Quinn and Florence’s relationship moves, step by step in a way that just makes sense, as if they have no choice but to end up together but not rushing it, taking the time to get to know each other and build that connection.

*I received an ARC of this book, this is my honest opinion*

I loved Quinn's character in Love At First Bite so I was thrilled to find out the next book was going to be his story - it's safe to say I was not disappointed! Much like the first book, Just My Blood Type is a fun rom com about a group of vampires in Whitby. Both have been great reads and have served as an ideal palette cleanser for darker books, or generally how the world is treating us all at the moment.

I particularly loved the found family elements of this book, and it was great to learn more about the characters that popped up in the first book of the series. They all work like a well-oiled machine, and while there are a lot of characters to keep track of, it is easy to keep up with who is who.

I also really enjoyed the writing style in these books. Laced with humour and heart, Just My Blood Type was a book I did not want to put down at any point. Quick chapters and light-hearted language made it incredibly bingeable.

If you're in the mood for a cute paranormal romance set in the spiritual home of British vampires, look no further.

'Just My Blood Type`completely charmed me from start to finish. Katherine Dyson has this rare knack for creating characters who feel instantly vivid and impossible to forget. They’re the kind that linger in your head long after you’ve turned the last page, quietly demanding a reread… and honestly, I’m happy to oblige. This is my favourite book of hers so far.

The story strikes a perfect balance between light, quirky humour and paranormal romance, never taking itself too seriously but still delivering real emotional moments. It’s playful without being shallow, heartfelt without being too heavy. Every interaction sparkles with personality, and the chemistry feels natural rather than forced.

This is exactly the kind of comfort read I look for in a book. I can return to this story again and again and still feel that same sense of delight. If you love memorable characters, a touch of the supernatural, and a romance that doesn’t lose its charm, this one is an absolute gem.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance review copy. Five stars, no hesitation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was so much fun. I was really happy to be back in this world again. It's just a cosy and original story and makes you smile.

Unlike the first book, vampirism is a key theme in this one! I don't want to give anything away the central plot surrounding this was really enjoyable, hooked me in and kept me interested. I had no idea how it would work itself out.

I loved that it's the FMC that's the vampire this time, I found that refreshing and loved Florence's sarcasm and banter. Quinn, the mmc, is so cute, he's honestly just adorable. It was also nice to see his more vulnerable side come out as the story progressed.

It's fairly insta love but it's done really well and doesn't feel forced, I also enjoyed the breaking of the fourth wall. All of the side characters are great and the empathy and kindness from them was lovely to read. I think I would have liked a bit more depth/explanation on the doppelgänger situation but it doesn't take away from the story at all.

Overall a cute and cosy vampire romance with lots of heart.

Florence is a vampire with a no dating humans rule, trying to live her life and get her ethically sourced blood.

Quinn, who works at Bitten, a vampire themed bar, is very human, isn’t winning in relationships and is now on a dating hiatus. He also has interesting connection to Florence’s past…

Their meet-cute was adorable, funny and slightly awkward all at the same time.

I LOVED that we get to go back to Whitby and Bitten. You don’t need to read Love at First Bite to enjoy this as they’re interconnected stand-alones but it definitely gives you more information on some of the supporting characters in this story.

I love the humor imbued in the characters. I enjoyed the little mystery of what was going on with Quinn. The journey of Quinn and Florence coming together and falling in love was so heart warming.

I hope we get another book in Whitby. Mina and Elias would be a wild ride.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinions are my own.

2.5 rounded up

The ‘handsome stranger’ turns out to be the great nephew of her deceased fiancé who looks exactly like him and also bears his name. But he goes by his last name so it’s not weird. And he’s basically Ted from how I met your mother who proposes to every woman he lays eyes on. He meets her the day he gets divorced. I didn’t really get over the ick that that gave me.

This is dual POV but both POV sounded really similar, it didn’t feel as successful. They both have those overly quirky ‘breaking the fourth wall’ inserts and like identical personalities. It reads pretty quick and the premise is cool but the romance part didn’t really grab me.

The vampire plot points are fun and it’s worth a read but it all seems a little convenient. I just wasnt totally sold on the romance.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for review.
I loved this world by Katherine Dyson. I read the previous book, Love at First Bite, and I was thrilled to be granted early access to this next installment. They are interconnected standalone books, and don’t need to be read in order.
In this book we have Quinn, who we met in the previous book and he is experiencing some strange medical symptoms so he goes to the clinic to start getting tested and scanned to get to answers. At the clinic we meet Florence, a vampire, who is “new” to town, or is she? She actually lived in this town when she was human and finds it hard to return because of the heartbreak she experienced there in the past. I loved the story of Quinn and Florence, their romance and love was so sweet. I hope there is more to come in this world!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Just My Blood Type by Katherine Dyson was such an interesting roller coaster to read—in a good way. At first, I thought this was going to be a simple, cute romance, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much more there was to the story.

Even though the book revolves around immortal vampires, there’s so much humanity in it. Every character shows love, kindness, and empathy, which made the story feel surprisingly heartfelt. The romance follows Florence, a vampire phlebotomist, and Quinn, a human bartender. Neither of them is looking for love, but they end up finding it anyway, and their attraction and chemistry are undeniable to everyone around them.

I also really enjoyed the little nods to classic vampire stories like Dracula and even Twilight. While I might not recommend this book to everyone, I would definitely suggest it to readers who enjoy a cute vampire romance with heart.

Thank you NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, and One More Chapter for the ARC!
