This sixth book in the Deep Dish mystery series finds Delilah and Capone's hands full catering to the clients of a wellness retreat. Her usual partners in solving crime and serving up piping hot slices of pizza are all away on vacations. When Sonya ropes Delilah in to help with the kind of event that she would normally stay very far away from Capone agrees to help out. It's the only way they'll be able to spend any time together. Just as Delilah is starting to to get the hang of things, but not really, a dead body is discovered.
This is a can't miss book in a can't miss series. If you aren't already a fan then get reading! All of the charm, all of the humor, all of the fun is here. The supporting characters are just the best and while they have limited page time this time around they still leave an impact. I've never read another series where I get so happy to see a character show up as if they are real. There's a new chief of police whom I liked as well.
The mansion and poison garden setting where the retreat is being held are wonderful and creepy. I don't blame Delilah one bit for feeling uncomfortable with the situation. I wouldn't want to "relax" like that either! The suspect pool isn't large but that doesn't make it easy to figure out the killer. You have multiple people acting suspiciously and then some are behaving outright bizarrely. There are many things to figure out. I didn't guess the killer but I did suspect them at some point at least. The showdown is intense and action filled.
As always the ending is sweet and satisfying or tasty for those who gather to eat the delicious food. Don't skip the recipes! Each is submitted by a different character and written from their point of view.

Delilah's ex-boyfriend Sam is back in town! He's brought his new girlfriend, SilverMoon, with him and she is VERY interested in Delilah's house (which is still owned by Sam). But as the two of them rope Delilah into catering a self-help retreat at an event space owned by SilverMoon's father, losing her house takes a backseat to more pressing matters because this retreat is anything but relaxing! When a woman is murdered in the middle of a poison garden, anyone at the retreat could be the culprit and anything in the garden could be the weapon.
This series is so well-written. I love how the author is constantly popping in little bits of humor throughout the story, even (and in some cases, especially) where things are getting dicey. The way the stories are woven together, with so many different personalities and backgrounds coming together, is impressive. Having multiple potential motives and opportunities makes it tough to figure out who the killer is because we can never quite be sure why the murder was committed in the first place.
Delilah isn't my favorite cozy heroine. She can be kind of a b. And no bones about it, Auntie Biz is a giant capital B. I also feel a bit weird about how many characters in this series are ex-cons. These two things make the stories always seem a bit unsafe somehow. I love the restaurant, I love pizza (who doesn't?), I love Delilah's house and cat, and I love the writing. This is a series that I will always pick up and read, but it's not one of my favorites and I think it's because it just comes *this close* to being super cozy and wonderful and the b's and cons just keep it from quite getting there.
This series is definitely one that any cozy fan, especially fans of culinary-themed cozies, should check out!

Delilah and friends are back in the sixth book in the Deep Dish Mystery series and this time, their delicious pizza is for a last minute wellness retreat. But between helping out Sonya's new girlfriend and contending with her ex and his new girlfriend, Delilah has found herself wrapped up in another murder investigation when one of the wellness client dies the first night. But never fear, because with the help of the new sheriff, her police boyfriend, and her trusty cat Butterball, this case will be wrapped up soon. Hopefully.
Delilah annoyed me in this one. Has she always had anger problems and I've just forgotten? The most frustrating part was when Capone had to clear alibis for her and her friends and she was so angry about it. I can imagine it would be upsetting to be a suspect, especially having your boyfriend investigate you, but surely she can see that he HAS to do his job, right? I mean, the alternative could get him fired. 🤷♀️ Oh well. I was happy to see a nice, new sheriff, but her long-windedness was hella annoying.

Delilah reluctanctly agrees to step in at the last minute to cater a weekend wellness retreat. She recruits Capone to act as bartender since her employees are all on vacation before the busy season starts. When a guest of the retreat is found dead, Delilah and Capone continue to work the retreat and attend as guests to find out who wanted the woman dead.
This kept me reading as there were no shortage of suspects. I was also wondering if Sam and SilverMoon had something planned with the house Delilah lives in and was pleasantly surprised with what it turned out to be. We didn't get to see much of the regular cast of characters who work with Delilah so hopefully we get more time with them in the next book as I missed them.

Having only read the first book in the series, it was easy enough to jump right in and feel like the characters were friends.

Not being her cup of tea, she does agree to go, but is skeptical--it's a lot of "feelings/being your best/open to the universe".
Of course while attending the retreat event at night, one of the guests is found by Delilah moments before she passes. Foul play is at hand and Delilah helps aid in the search for who did it and why.
I liked the characters, the story, and of course her cat, Butterball adds to the mix!

First, thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this fun cozy mystery book. Although this is #6 in the series, this is the first I’ve read in the series. In this book, a Wisconsin pizza chef has the opportunity to cater an upscale wellness guru-headed event. Chef Delilah recruits her boyfriend Capone – a cop by day and as her bartender during the event. When a guest at the event turns up dead, both Delilah and Capone get involved in solving the case. Oh and who could forget Delilah’s loyal cat, Butterball. Butterball may be a bit of a reach in the story, but its fun nonetheless.
Probably best to read the series for better perspective, but the book does stand alone and a fun read.

Delilah, a pizza chef, agrees to take on an emergency catering job at an extremely upscale wellness retreat. Of course, someone dies, that's to be expected in a cozy mystery, but the fun lies in the situation. This wellness retreat is over-the-top in pretentiousness, presentation, and attitude. Delilah may be a fish out of water here, but she's right in her element for solving a murder.
If you like foodie cozy mysteries, this one's for you. If you like well-crafted, intelligent writing, this one's also for you - I found the writing to be a cut above (no murder-pun intended) most cozies.

This cast of characters kept the story interesting with plenty of suspects and possible motives. I also enjoyed the deeper meaning of the story about perfectionism and how it has both positive and negative sides.
Delilah was an interesting character to follow but I don't know if I necessarily liked her. She could be quite judgey so sometimes I enjoyed being in her head and other times I didn't. I also wish this book had leaned more into the food aspect of being a cozy mystery. Often times the food and recipes are a bigger part of the story but in this case it felt like an afterthought.

I was super excited to get into Murder in the Upper Crust, and this was such a fun continuation of the series!! What I LOVE when a mystery gets messy and suddenly everyone is blaming everyone. The accusations, secrets coming out, people turning on each other… I was eating it UP. And let’s NOT forget Butterball because it is the star of the show 🐈🤍! Overall, this is such a fun, cozy, and messy mystery, making it a great addition to the series!

Was thrilled to get this ARC as I really enjoy this series. This was one of the more intriguing mysteries in the series. I continue to enjoy the characters, their relationships, and of course, Butterball, the cat.

Love this Cozy Mystery series.This was kind of different. A murder of course. Dwyer running the investigation and Deliah and Capone part of the retreat. Very interesting and so many suspects. Not going to give away any spoilers. A VERY GOOD READ.
