Joy Squirrel, Battersea London, 1911.
And she has the biggest secret of her life.
Married to Samuel for twenty odd years finds herself pregnant, this baby whoever the father will bring so much pride and joy her biggest secret.
With Samuel always bad with his back, unabled to work, Joy spends her time making soup buying cheap veg then selling it down the market every day.
Her mother Eliza is well known to the community and her door is open, Joy finds herself confession her secret.
But Eddie Mallory her neighbour is not keeping quiet,
One mistake, one wanted baby, and nothing can be changed.
Heartache, sorrow, friendship and happiness are all entails as you read, its such a heartfelt story of lost loved ones right through, history of the sinking of the titanic, into WW1, with many suffering of loss and heartache.
Joy Squirrel is remarkable and a fighter, experiences in her life like no other woman has to experience, but everything is for her son her Barrow boy Ralph.
This was for me a Joy to read, I loved every single chapter having to grab many tissues along the way.
Beautiful perfect and a rewarding book.
