“‘Emily in Paris’ premiered during a moment when the world was craving joy, colour, and a bit of escapism. Marilyn’s costumes delivered all three.” — Darren Star, foreword
I unironically love ‘Emily in Paris.’ It’s completely ridiculous, and even deeply stupid at times — but it’s also obviously made with so much love. Watching ‘Emily’ always makes me feel a little bit lighter. It’s a show that insists that even if romance, and magic, and optimism aren’t part of everyday life, and we all know it, that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be. This book is absolutely beautiful, and it actually does provide fascinating insight into, and a fun behind-the-scenes look at, the costuming of the series.
Also: I bought this from the ASSOULINE store in Paris where they were displaying two of the costumes used in the series (in anticipation of the launch of season five and to celebrate the release of the book). The store attendant told me that my shoes were pretty, but not at all practical for Paris (my heels were too high), and, upon learning that I’m Canadian, she also told me that she would rather die than wear a puffer jacket, but kindly gave me a tote bag “to keep the book warm” on the trip back. The experience was perfect.
