Divorce is not just a fact in Christian circles, it's a common occurrence. Yet most Christian fiction dealing with marital struggles insists that reconciliation is always possible. Jumping in Sunset shows how God's abundant love works through situations where the neat, accepted answers don't. Meet Pamela Thornton, who has a comfortable faith, a twenty-year marriage, and a solid relationship with her college-bound daughter - when her husband announces he's leaving her to marry another woman. Slowly, Pamela learns to understand and experience God within the impossible truth that her marriage has come to an end.
Jumping in Sunset was a refreshing read. I think Dawn Ringling captured well the roller coaster of thoughts, feelings, and emotions, which correspond to a major life change, in this case being the victim of an unexpected divorce. Pam has good family, friends, and her faith to help her navigate into her new life.
A new friend wrote this book and I really liked it. She covered a lot of the pain of divorce without being sappy, repetitive or too obvious. I could tell she wrote from her own experiences! I loved the main character, Pam, and I especially loved the ending and how she worked thru this tough time.It ended very well!
When I was going through my divorce, I read everything I could to figure out how to get through it and to know I was going to be okay. This book portrayed the heartbreak and questioning I went through (although infidelity was not the reason for my divorce). And when God showed Pam He could still use her and had more plans for her, that it didn't all end with the divorce, I had hope too. Funny thing; I read this book 6 years ago or so and had forgotten that Ken was a classmate of Pamela's. my wonderful Godly husband of 5 years was my classmate in middle and high school. This book probably helped me look at my husband in a different way when we reconnected. No wonder I remember it so fondly!
Pamela is shocked when her husband files for divorce. She heads to a rustic lakeside cabin to heal, but how can she get over her husband's betrayal? Can she open her heart again to love? As Pamela answers these questions to herself, she discovers herself, her capacity to forgive and come to God.
A deep story written by a knowledgeable author. Very satisfying. (Review written 3/15/2005.)
This was okay; but I was really upset with the wife (now ex-wife). She was so dumb about some things; but great on others. I hate when people make a charater none-trusting of some; but completely trusting of others (especially the ones she shouldn't)
great story about forgiveness and God's great love. Divorce is not a topic to take lightly and the author didn't follow typical happily ever after story, hers was drawn upon her real life experiece. Sad and happy, trials and apologies. Overall a good read.
I really liked this book. I didn't think of it as a Christian novel but more as one that deals with human emotions and how it affects all the other aspects of our life. It is not easy to keep the faith and find God's voice in the everyday noises but it always works out. Very inspirational.
