The Fresh Start Lock-In was supposed to bring the students of Bridgewater closer together. Jackie didn't think it would work, but she didn't think she'd have to fight for her life, either. A group of outsider kids who like to play werewolf might not be playing anymore. Will Jackie and her brother escape Bridgewater High before morning? Or will a pack of crazed students take them down?

Realistic and mythological horror meet in Jonathan Mary-Todd's Lock-In, a thriller about what can happen when hundreds of adolescents are trapped in one place with minimal supervision. The problem at Bridgewater High School begins with the rise of Connor Tailors and his outsider friends who call themselves the Werewolves. This aggressive pack of students clashes with members of the lacrosse team, and soon an exchange of mean-spirited pranks escalates into something serious. The school administration has had enough, and Student Council President Rosa De La Torre suggests a solution: an all-night lock-in at Bridgewater High, with fun activities and socializing to help members of the student body get to know one another. Tensions will ease and Rosa's reputation will be boosted as the time to apply to colleges approaches next year.

Jackie, our main character, isn't sure the lock-in is smart, but she doesn't mind attending the party. Neither does her brother Pete, a senior. But things go sideways a few hours after the lock-in opens. A violent attack on a lacrosse player sparks hostilities between the team and the Werewolves. Jackie's childhood friend, Francis, warned her that something bad might go down at the lock-in. It gets worse when electricity goes out all over the school. Jackie, Francis, and Pete sneak from room to room in darkened Bridgewater High avoiding groups of teens who want to take out their anger on somebody. The Werewolves and lacrosse athletes are threats to everyone now. The school event is officially over, but with the electricity out there's no opening the code-locked doors, and it will take time for the police to arrive and break in. As the wee morning hours drift by and Jackie feels that she's beating the odds with every breath she draws, the nightmare grows scarier. The Werewolves are more dangerous than the students or faculty could have conceived, and threats to Jackie, her brother, and Francis start coming from more than just the two rival gangs...

Lock-In is the first book I've read from the Night Fall franchise, so I can't judge the whole collection. I'm not sure if there's any real meaning to the story, and the narrative elements weave together strangely, but there's an exciting moment or two. Lock-In might be a good choice for reluctant young readers who want their horror pure and unfiltered, not dressed up with higher ideas or themes. If that's you, all I have left to say is: enjoy!

I usually enjoy young adult fiction, but this was an exception. There were multiple conflicts between groups and too many characters to determine who the actual antagonist person or group was suppose to be.

The objective of the Student Council leader to force all the students to get to know each other at a lock-in backfires. Instead groups split up and keep out those they are not comfortable with.

There was no cohesion to the premise of wolves in their midst. The fear factor didn't coincide with the danger presented. There was no resolution. Maybe it appeals to a person with a different mind set.

this was okay, I didn't know this was a series until I was already halfway thru it on Scribd (audiobook)... I MIGHT have liked it more if I would have read them in order...This is a series of horror novellas but, they aren't written by the same author... so maybe the story is actually really good as a whole! due to different writing styles and such but I will never know because I looked and it looks like on Scribd there was only this book in the series (in the audiobook section!) And I am just NOT too interested in this series to hunt down the audiobooks or to buy any of the books... I only picked this because I am trying to find smaller books to read to break up all the other bigger books that I am trying to finish for the Spooky Season!

Bridgewater High is a bit disjointed, so to unite the different 'groups' as a 'school' they decide to stage a 'Lock-in'. Except one group act like they're werewolves. Is it acting?

A school lock in meant to bring the school cliques together tears them apart -- literally.

Really short but I loved the main character's sense of humor.
