Sera, like hundreds of victims of the Polio-Variant IV virus, has been transferred to Haven Base, where the Elysians, a race of humans from a distant planet, labor to save Earth’s population. The only problem is that Sera’s boyfriend Dex thinks she’s dead and is making choices that will leave him ineligible for transfer if he contracts the virus. In an effort to save his soul, Sera defies the strict rules of her rescuers and takes over the consciousness of Elspeth, a young woman dying of Polio-Variant IV and scheduled for immediate extraction. Sera is allowed one week to work a change in Dex’s heart.Except Dex Porter has no intention of changing anything. When Sera “died,” so did his belief in the possibility of them being together again. He blocks every effort Sera—in Elspeth’s body—makes to change his path. When Elspeth’s body begins to deteriorate quicker than before, Sera and the Elysians are forced to make a choice about the greater Elspeth’s body or Dex’s soul.
During her early years of reading, Ranee` S. Clark devoured fantasy books, which continued into her adulthood—since she often believes that a well-written romance novel is a delightful fantasy. Though raising three boys can sometimes hamper both romance with her own Mr. Charming and her writing, she tries to get a little of both in every day. And most of the time she succeeds.
I really enjoyed this short story. Ranee S. Clark is a master at weaving enchanting love stories together and this one is no exception. This fun and futuristic tale is a quick read that will touch your heart too.
Way too short to really care about the characters and their struggles. The story had so much potential, but definitely could have been drawn out into a full story instead of a novella. Confusing storyline at the beginning. I had a hard time understanding what the setting was and if the characters were alive or dead. I did like the dialogue back and forth between the MC's. Liked the ending. Anyone who has lost a loved one would wish this type of thing for themselves. Clean. No sex or language. Only talk of drinking and sleeping around. If you liked the Host by Stefanie Meyer, you'll like this one.
