Let Me Keep You

Rate this book
I wasn’t supposed to fall for my best friend’s older brother.

But somewhere between secret letters and confessing our feelings, Tyler became my first love—and the first boy to shatter my heart when he left our Southern hometown twelve years ago.

Now he’s back, working for my father and looking at me like he still wants me…except now I’m engaged to another man.

One touch.
One look.
Every feeling I buried rushes back in, and the closer we get, the harder it is to keep our distance—or remember why we ever did.

When I tell my fiancé it’s over, he threatens to destroy the last piece of my mother I have left, forcing me toward a future I no longer want. The only person willing to fight for us is the man who first stole my heart.

Tyler gave up once before.

But now, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep me.

After years away and a stent in prison for being wrongfully imprisoned, Tyler makes his way back to his roots in small town Alabama where he hopes to restart his life and find some peace with his newfound freedom. Reconnecting with his family and familiar faces is what inspires Tyler to come home, but Gemma is the one who got away and even knowing she's engaged to someone else, Tyler only wants what will make her happy even if it's not with him.
Gemma was heartbroken when Tyler left town all those years ago and spent years moving on until she met Robert and found the stability she was looking for in him. When Tyler comes back to town, Gemma has repressed feelings come to the surface again and when they end up working together every day, it becomes harder and harder to forget why she chose Robert over Tyler in the first place. The more time she spends with Tyler, the more she remembers who she really is and how much Robert has suppressed her and molded her into someone she doesn't recognize. When she starts to pull away from Robert the ugliness and true intentions come into the light and Gemma finds herself in a situation she never imagined. As Tyler's dangerous past seems to find its way into their small town lives and the danger that Robert poses to Gemma and all their loved ones, things start to take turns that you don't expect and through all the forces coming their way they have to choose each other to make to the other side.
A story filled with suspense and twists, if you love a romantic suspense this one will do the trick. Tor and Lia were phenomenal on this story, and they both deliver the emotional levity and intensity to bring this story to life.

Thank you to Must Love Audio for the ALC!

New to me author!

I’m ashamed to say Brooke has been on my TBR for so long. I’m so glad I finally listened to on of her books. I’ll be back for seconds and thirds!

The was a drama llama filled angsty read I couldn’t stop listening too! It was soooo good. The tension omg the tension. Heart break and first love. A crazy fiancé. So much of will they, won’t they. The besties that are your ride or die…literally.

Tyler and Gemma have so much history and he leaves her behind, knowing she can’t go with him. It’s the right person wrong time kind of thing. But now he’s back and she’s engaged. They are working together and toeing the line. The angst had me in absolute knots the whole time. I’m really excited to go back and meet Tyler’s friends from the previous series.

This one has angst, passion, heartbreak, the feeling of finally coming home packed with suspense!

This book was pretty good overall, but it was long and repetitive. I honestly think it could have been cut down by about 25% and still told the same story.

This is a second chance, other man (OM), small-town romance with plenty of drama.

Emma and Tyler have a history that goes all the way back to when Emma was a senior in high school and Tyler was serving in the military. Emma was best friends with Tyler’s sister and spent that time writing letters to him. When Tyler is discharged, they reconnect at his sister’s graduation and instantly fall into an emotional and physical connection for the summer.

Until Tyler leaves to try to build a better life.

Fast-forward several years and Tyler is fresh out of prison after being screwed over by a mob princess he used to work for. He decides to return home and start over, eventually getting a job working for Emma’s dad at his mechanic shop.

The problem? Emma is now engaged to a much older, extremely wealthy man who is basically a walking red flag.

Forced proximity brings Emma and Tyler back into each other’s lives, and Emma starts realizing she isn't in love with her fiancé. She tries to end things, but her fiancé is a douche canoe who refuses to let her walk away. He threatens her, uses his money and power against her, and even threatens to take away and burn Emma’s childhood cottage, the place filled with memories of her late mom.

And because he has everyone in his pocket, Emma eventually gives in and marries him.

I LOVE some good OM drama, but I felt like this storyline kept repeating itself. I also felt so bad for Tyler because Emma was constantly dragging him along. She had a backbone when it came to Tyler, but when it came to her fiancé/husband, she completely caved.

I listened to this one on audio, which definitely helped because the length of the story went by a little quicker that way.

Tropes
close-knit friend group
small-town setting

it’s always been you
second-chance
forced proximity
suspense

Overall, this was a good read with plenty of drama, angst, and complicated feelings. I just wish it had been a little shorter!

This is Book 1 of the Let Me Trilogy series!

I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC 🥰

THIS BOOK WAS ANGSTY, EMOTIONAL, AND SO ADDICTIVE. 😭🖤

Gemma was never supposed to fall for her best friend’s older brother, but secret letters and stolen feelings quickly turned Tyler into her first love—and the first person to completely shatter her heart when he left their Southern hometown twelve years ago. 💔

Now Tyler is back, working for Gemma’s father and looking at her like he still wants her… except Gemma is engaged to someone else. 👀
But one touch. One look. One moment together—and suddenly every feeling she tried to bury comes rushing back.

I absolutely loved the second-chance romance between Tyler and Gemma. The history, the longing, the unresolved feelings, and all those years of wondering what if? made their chemistry completely irresistible. These two clearly never stopped mattering to each other, and watching them try to fight what they feel had me emotionally invested from the beginning. 🥹❤️

And Tyler?! 😮‍💨🔥 This man may have given up once, but he is NOT making the same mistake again. I loved his determination to fight for Gemma and prove that this time, he’s staying. The protective energy and emotional depth were everything.

Gemma’s situation added so much tension too. Breaking off her engagement should have been the beginning of her choosing herself, but when her fiancé threatens to destroy the last piece of her mother she has left, she’s pushed toward a future she no longer wants. 💔

If you love second chances, best friend’s older brother, first loves, forbidden yearning, angsty slow burns, suspense, small-town romance, and a hero who will do anything to keep his girl, Let Me Keep You needs to be on your TBR!

I was today years old when I found out Brooke Fox is Brooke Montgomery! This book is a rerelease of a series, where each couple had a duet. Brooke has now combined each couple’s duet into one standalone, and it will now be a trilogy. This is book one of the Let Me Trilogy and it can be read as a complete standalone. In this one, we follow Tyler & Gemma. Tyler has been in prison for the last five years, for a crime he was set up for. Gemma still lives in the small town they grew up in, and is now engaged to another man. Tyler is back home, after being away for twelve years. Tyler was Gemma’s first love and her greatest heartbreak. As soon as he’s back, Gemma starts questioning everything about her engagement. She starts to see her fiancé in another light, and it’s dark and twisted! She tries to break things off with him, but he manipulates and blackmails her, threatening to destroy everything and everyone she loves, if she refuses to follow through with their wedding. This was such a angsty, slow burn with some suspense! I can’t wait for the rest of the trilogy! The audiobook was duel narrated by Lia Langola and Tor Thom. && If you want more of Tyler’s background and more on what exactly happened to him, his story starts in the Between Us Trilogy, that I now need to go read! You don’t have to read that trilogy, to read this book however, but I want to! I am definitely interested in more details!! He is very close to the last couple in that trilogy, and it sounds like they all went through a lot!

Thank you Brooke Montgomery (Fox) & Must Love Audio for the ALC!

OMG LET ME KEEP YOU!!! 😭❤️‍🔥 Brooke Fox absolutely had me HOOKED with this one. Give me second chance romance, best friend’s older brother, twelve years of unresolved feelings, forbidden yearning AND small-town drama and apparently I will happily forget the rest of the world exists.

TYLER AND HER!!! 😭 The history between these two absolutely wrecked me. The secret letters, the first love, the heartbreak when he left and then TWELVE YEARS LATER he comes back and all those feelings are basically sitting there waiting to explode. The tension was SO GOOD. Every look, every touch, every little moment between them had me screaming JUST ADMIT YOU STILL LOVE EACH OTHER ALREADY!!!

And of course she’s ENGAGED. Because apparently we needed extra emotional damage. 😂😭

But Tyler coming back and realising he wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice??? YESSSS. This man said I gave you up once and I’m absolutely not doing that again and I was DONE. The yearning, protectiveness and determination to fight for her absolutely got me. 🫠❤️‍🔥

Then throw in the fiancé situation, the threats, the suspense and all the secrets coming out and suddenly my cute angsty second-chance romance had me STRESSED. I genuinely couldn’t put it down because every time I thought things might calm down, NOPE, something else happened.

I loved that their relationship had so much history behind it too. It wasn’t just them falling in love, it was two people who had loved each other for YEARS finally getting another chance to choose each other. 🥹

Tyler can keep me too, just saying. 😂

Such an addictive, emotional, angsty start to the trilogy and now I NEED BOOK TWO because I am officially invested in this whole world.

This was my first time reading a book by Brooke Fox and it won't be my last! I was absolutely hooked on this story from beginning to end. There was so much angst, tension, morally questionable situations, and mutual yearning. I couldn't get enough of all the drama! And that ending. I will be thinking about that for a LONG time!

Tyler is fresh out of prison and looking for a fresh start in his hometown. When he returns, the woman who got away, Gemma, is engaged and working at her father's garage. As their paths continue to cross, they cannot avoid the attraction that is still there and Tyler begins to realize that Gemma really isn't happy with her fiancé.

Juicy, right???

I think this book was a bit longer than it needed to be and there were places where it felt slow. That being said, I still really enjoyed it. The storyline, romance, and twisty ending was absolutely worth it!

A new small town trilogy from Brooke? Ex con MMC? Second chance romance? GIMME!

Audio: Lia Langola & Tor Thom portray Gemma & Tyler in this dual narration audio, & I think they did a great job! The accents weren't too crazy heavy/thick, just a touch of southern twang that was fitting for the setting. I listened along while I read the ARC, & the narrators really made the story jump off the pages! Highly recommend listening while reading.

Story: I love a second chance romance, & this one was def that! Gemma & Tyler are back in each other's orbit after 12 years apart, she's engaged & he is fresh out of prison. Now I keep my reviews vague on purpose, but just know there is A LOT going on throughout this one!

Gemma's relationship with her fiancé, Tyler getting back on his feet, the relationships with side characters (I LOVE his sister haha), Tyler's previous life coming to try to haunt him, Gemma & Tyler yearning for each other, & so much more! There is tension, drama, swooning, laughter, tears, & just a full on rollercoaster ride that I enjoyed so much! Can't wait for the next one to release soon!

Overall I enjoyed this one by Brooke Fox. It was full of lots of angst, tension, mutual pining and definitely lots of drama.

Tyler was just released from prison and wanting a fresh start. He moves back to his hometown to work for his first love’s father. One major problem was Gemma was engaged to another man. Their attraction and chemistry was still so strong even after all those years apart. The tension between these two was insane!! I loved all the angst and pining.

I do feel like this book was a bit longer than it needed to be. At some point the pace was a little slow. I think listening it to on audio really helped engage me in the story more on those slower parts. Tor Thom and Lia Langola did a great job with the narration. You could feel the angst, yearning and emotions between the characters.

Overall I enjoyed the suspense, passion and heartbreak throughout this story. If you love forbidden romances with lots of angst and pining, you need to check this out!

Gemma started writing letters to her best friend’s brother when he joined the military and they fell in love. Until he left her broken-hearted, and found himself in a mess of trouble that lands him in prison for 5 years for something he didn’t do.

Now Tyler’s back, working in her father’s garage, still very much in love with her, but she’s engaged to another man. Unsurprisingly he ends up being a manipulative, controlling tool bag who threatens to ruin her life if she doesn’t agree to whatever he says.

💟 Second chance
💟 She wrote him letters
💟 Ex-con (he was set up, I swear!)
💟 Best friends brother
💟 Romantic suspense
💟 Forbidden
💟 Forced proximity
💟 He yearns

This is two previously published books in one, and sometimes it feels a bit drawn out. The ending was definitely a twist I wasn’t expecting and I loved it.

Thank you, Brooke Fox, for the opportunity to ALC review this book! The narrators did a great job!

Let Me Keep You is Gemma and Tyler’s first love, angsty slow burn romance and it’s book one in the Let Me Trilogy. This is a heartwarming and heartbreaking second chance love story and it didn’t take me long to become invested in this couple and their story.
Gemma has loved her best friend’s older brother from the first time she felt love and when he left twelve years ago he took her heart with him. Moving on was hard but she finally settled down and got engaged but now Tyler is back and working for her father…..so what happens when they realise they have unresolved feelings and then her fiancé decides to destroy what Gemma has left of her mother.
This was an emotional read and at times I struggled but I’m so glad I persevered because the further I got into this story the harder I fell.
This is a well written, heartwarming small town romance with enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat.

Oh my goodness! What a wild freaking ride!! I could not stop listening to this audiobook, it sucked me in and had me hooked! I am so excited for the next two books to be released, thankfully there won't be too long of a wait!

Gemma and Tyler are meant to be and life keeps getting in the way! The military, the need to start over new, prison time, and crazy fiancé/ex to name a few. If you like drama filled roller coasters, angsty angst that has angst, yearning, and a bad ass group of girlfriends then this is for you! The third act was wild and made me so sad for them, but the resolution was brilliant and absolute perfection! The epilogue has me so dang excited for book 2, bring on Katie and Noah!!

Lia Langola and Tor Thom narrated this book and did a great job. Lia Langola was perfect as Gemma!

I knew this story would pull me in, and it absolutely did. If you’ve read the Between Us trilogy, you already know Tyson — and you won’t want to miss his book. He’s been through so much, and this story shows just how loyal, steady, and full‑hearted he is.
Gemma believes she has everything she needs, and Tyson coming home shouldn’t change that… but not everything in her world is as perfect as it seems. I loved watching her grow in strength and confidence as the truth unravels. This couple is put through so much, yet Tyson is determined not to lose his girl again.
The tension had my heart racing, and I was rooting for them the entire way. The new cast is fantastic, and Everleigh is an absolute hoot — I adored her. This is an amazing start to the trilogy, and I’m already counting down to book two.

Let Me Keep You is the first book in the trilogy, Let Me, by Brooke Fox.

I'm a fan of second chance romances and this one gives it all from start to finish that keeps you invested in Tyler and Gemma's reconnection after he left and broke her heart. There is plenty of angst, messy feelings, facing past decisions that influenced their present, chemistry and attraction that never faded over time and the realization that their love for each other may have been locked away was just waiting for them to find each other again.

I appreciated that there is a strong family and friends bond that surrounds them, humorous moments, some suspense, and plenty of chemistry that gives an entertaining read for all. Looking forward to the next book in this trilogy.

I received an early copy and I'm sharing my voluntary opinion.

This was an interesting and engaging read. I enjoyed the second chance romance between Tyler and Gemma, and really loved Tyler's character. Gemma was a little harder to connect with as I found her relationship with her fiance difficult to understand and disliked her reactions to his behaviours. This part of the story felt a little long and repetitive, but once Tyler and Gemma were able to really explore their chemistry and connection, I became totally engrossed in the story. There was foreboding, manipulation, danger, twists and turns, juxtaposed with small town energy, great friends and family, and an overarching theme of overcoming adversity. I enjoyed meeting Gemma's besties and look forward to their stories to come in the series.

UGH I love a second chance romance and this one was that with a TON of angst.
The push and pull between Gemma and Tyler was so strong. Even though they lost touch over 12 years and had a ton of life happen, feelings never went away.

Definitely recommend picking this one up on audio. Dual Narration by Tor Thom and Lia Langola. Lia is new to my ears and I think she did a great job. I could have listened to this one as a sole narration with her and been happy!

Overall a great story and recommend checking this out if you love angsty second chances.

I loved this book so much. It was so unfair to Tyler that he spent time in prison because of Victoria. I hated her so much. I loved that Tyler moved back to his hometown and reconnected with Gemma. I loved seeing them get their second chance. I hated Robert and everything he did to Gemma. I loved Tyler and Gemma together they were so perfect for each other and I loved how they both kept the letters they'd written each other in the past too. I loved Gemma's friend group too, and how Everleigh came to her rescue. Omg I loved the twist at the end, I didn't see that coming at all but I LOVED it! I loved their story and loved the ending too, I can't wait for the next book.

So much yearning, angst and tension between the one that got away and the one that didn’t stay. Tyler returned home and discovered his feelings come right back for Gemma, who had become engaged to another man while he was away. Their way to a happily ever after didn’t seem possible at first, but true love won. It was messy, bumpy, it was honest and refreshing. I experienced their story on audio, and the dual narration by Lia Langola and Tor Thom was great. They portrayed so much emotion in their voices, their performances believable and engaging.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning! Gemma and Tyler have history! Tyler was Gemma’s first love, and he completely broke her heart, Tyler is looking for a fresh start after getting released from prison and he returns home. Gemma is engaged to someone else and now Tyler is working for Gemma’s father. Even after all the years apart, their chemistry is still electric, and you could definitely feel tension. This book will make you laugh, swoon but it’s also full of tension and drama. This book was such an emotional roller coaster, but it was still worth it. I can’t wait for the the other two books! Love Brooke's writing!

I really really liked this one. I love a second chance trope. The fact she was engaged to a douche canoe didn't make me feel bad for the cheating, at all. She needed to be done with that relationship for awhile but he was a manipulative jerk. The plot twist towards the end had my jaw on the floor, I was not expecting it at all and it was executed beautifully. CANNOT wait for Noah and Katie's story. He's gunna have a lot of groveling to do for sure.

BROOOOOKE! Gemma and Tyler were the perfect second chance with just the right amount of angst, suspense, twists, and heat. Their letters were the cutest thing, and I love that their love outlasted hardships and trauma. This story was only made better by the wonderful narration performances of the amazing Tor Thom and Lia Langola. I was captivated from the start, and I could barely put this audio down!

While I did really enjoy this one, it wasn't my favourite from Brooke Fox. Maybe my expectations were just set too high! Some elements were fun, but others left me feeling frustrated and not fully understanding the characters choices. I will likely continue the series, but wouldn't be in a rush to reread this one.
