I loved reading this modern day retelling of the classic love story of Romeo & Juliet. Steve Genis has managed to bring their story into the present, with some truly surprising twists that kept me turning the pages.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loved the original tale as I did. With humour, suspense and passion, Steve has brought the characters of Romeo & Juliet to life once more, making me fall in love with the characters all over again.

Perhaps the most surprising part of this story was the alternate ending which poses the question: What if the original story ended differently? Would Romeo & Juliet have had their happy ending?

I laughed, I cried, I fell in love.

You will too.

I was given this book for a honest review.

Steve genis has changed the way we see Romeo and Juliet in this modern day telling of the book. There's no love lost between the families in this book but we see the relationships in so much more light then ever before with a mix up of characters and some series twist that keep you glued to the pages. Must have for anyone who loves Romeo and Juliet because this book is just so much more. Don't forget to check out the alternative ending. There's something to say about a real HEA.

Congratulations on another fantastic read

Juliet Capulet is 18 years old and her family thinks it is time for her to start her life and get married. Unfortunately, Juliet does not feel the same way. She has her own agenda like going to school and falling in love the right way.

Romeo Montague just had his heart broken by Rose, the girl he believes is the love of his life. After begging her to take a chance on him, she gives him one final refusal. To help cheer him up, his friends drag him to a party, where he lays eyes on Juliet. Little does he know his whole world is about to change.

Their love story will never be simple one because of who they both are. Romeo and Juliet do not care who the other person’s family is and deep down in their hearts they know they are each other’s one true love. Will that be enough? Or will their family names be their downfall?

This is a version of the story that I would have loved to read in high school. At first I was very skeptical of how such a classic story could be modernized without taking away the complexity of the original. I also feared that it would be too modern; incorporating all the trivial aspects into today's society. Steve Genis did a great job keeping the history but also adding his own take on the characters.

Romeo and Juliet both have this witty side to them that I never noticed in the original. They are more relatable now, dealing with heart break, and not being able to be with the one you love. While I wished that some parts of the story would have been changed from the original to add a twist, I enjoyed reading this version of Romeo and Juliet. If you were a fan of the original, I highly suggest you pick up this version. You will not be disappointed. I would recommend this book!

Looking at the title of this book and seeing "The Untold Story", I expected just that......to read an interpretation of Romeo and Juliet that introduced a new dimension to the story and included elements not shown in the original play. Instead I found all I was reading was the authors re-write of Shakespeare's classic. It appears he has simply read the play and reworded it in modern English which, quite frankly, has not been done well. To say that it loses a little something in this translation is putting it mildly and at times the characters reactions to events are just purely unbelievable (for example- when Juliet's family believe her to be dead......would they really stand around crying and lamenting their loss as calmly as was described in this book? I think not). The author fails to convey any real depth of emotion the entire way through the story which makes it incredibly difficult to connect with the characters. I get that he was trying to portray the story in modern times but seriously, was such copious use of profanity from what was supposed to be two of the wealthiest and most dignified families of the time really necessary? Ultimately what was one of Shakespeare's greatest and most popular works- one of the greatest love stories of all time, has been turned into a poorly modernized copy. Very disappointing.

***REVIEWED FOR SARAH & KIRSTY'S BOOK REVIEWS***

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very easy to follow and once I started it properly, I didn't put it down. I didn't quite know how Steve was going to modernise it and whether it would work but I must say he totally nailed it. It took me back to when I was younger and read it in school except I would have got a better grade on my essay if I had had this version. I loved the language and how the plot followed the original so accurately. The characters were spot on too. I loved all the different twists and turns, it definitely added to the drama and ‘tragic’ theme. I was surprised at a few points in this book but it made a lot of sense after I spoke to the author. On every page turn, there was some sort of conflict which added to the drama. I loved the ending and in my opinion Steve wrote this book as a perfect modern version of a classic. This book tells us the untold story of Romeo and Juliet and I for one learnt a lot and understood it more than the classic. Steve, you did a wonderful job of modernising one of the greatest love stories ever told and I for one thoroughly enjoyed it.

I decided to read Bleeding Love out of curiosity more than anything else. I do not read romance usually and I haven't broken that trend. This was a bizarre book full of repetition, bad grammar a lack of any kind of depth or development and a total lack of direction. The mix of values from the original and modern times is done really badly. Arranged marriages were abandoned in most western countries in the mid 20th century, yet we still have them in this modern Paris. Modern laws changes were not addressed and the use of mobile phones seems to have been conveniently forgotten. I wanted to like this book, I wanted to see a great spin on a classic but was very disappointed. Romeo and Juliet was one of the few books I read in high school that I understood what my teachers wanted me to understand, but this was very lost in the translation. In summary this book misses the mark on most levels.

What can I say about this book other than the fact that I loved it.
Steve Genis is a genius!!!
His modern day reworking of Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet will allow readers to live a story that they have never contemplated reading before.
He brings to life the characters that we all know and love.
He has tweeted some of the cast to bring them into the modern world.
Steve's genius is that he has made me love this story even more.
I did have a few good laughs whilst reading it and also a couple of tears.
Well done Steve - totally worth 5*****.
Don't forget he does have an alternative ending also for reading - so if you didn't like this one, you may love the alternative.

I received this book in return for an honest review on behalf of A Kiss Down Under Book Blog.
This book is brilliant. As someone who loves the original story of Romeo and Juliet this updated version was a winner, it included all of the familiar scenes but was fresh and current. The story contains some rather HOT love scenes also.
This book is told in the 3rd person, I usually don't get into 3rd person books but this one kept my attention and I couldn't put it down.
A very good twist on an old classic!!! Definite recommend.

I am an absolute fan of Steve's, I have loved his work from the first book he ever published.
I will admit I was quite worried reading this as I have read a lot of Romeo remakes that they authors have made a mess of, this is not the case.
Steve writes a compelling modern day Romeo and Juliet filled with love, lust and a hell of a lot of Hot, sweaty scenes.
Even if you arent familiar with the classic this is a good up beat fast read.
Well done on another fantastic book Steve.

We all know the story of Romeo and Juliet. But this one puts the story into a language people of today can understand. This book starts out with the prologue from the original story and then shows the prologue in our current language. As I was reading both all I could think to myself was oooh so that's what that meant. The ending is a little different to what I remember the original being but still follows the same lines.

An awesome remake of a well loved classic.
