Fate doesn’t send a warning text.
What happens when the werewolf you can’t stand becomes the werewolf you can’t live without?

As a neurosurgery student, I, Yvaine Mackenzie, have only one thing on my brain—well, the brain.

Born werewolf, but with a self-prescribed immunity to the whole fated-mate concept, I never speculated how I would meet my other half. My life is already packed to the brim with surgical textbooks, hospital shifts, matcha dates with my roommates, and making sure my twin brother—aka, our college’s famous team captain—leaves the wereball field with all his limbs intact.

That’s right, wereball—the unnecessarily aggressive sport comparable to human football but with no refs, no penalties, and no protective gear. Or as I like to call it, uncivilized, primitive, and a waste of medical supplies.

Everything fits perfectly into my color-coded agenda… until one night I innocently lend out my phone and receive the filthiest message from an anonymous rival player. Figures, as he’s the most arrogant, irritating, and ill-mannered person I’ve never met. And my REM-sleep has never been the same.

Though somewhere between late-night texting and morning bickering, the shockingly perceptive mystery man I renamed “Rudolph” becomes my closest confidante.

But we can’t hide behind our screens forever. The more our friendship deepens, the closer we draw toward catastrophic secrets and one undeniable truth—how we accidentally texted destiny into existence.

When everything explodes…will I be able to forgive him?

If I’d known one silly text would tilt the axis of my life? I would’ve done some cardio. Strengthened my heart. Kept a defibrillator with me. All the time.

Wereball by Isabella Skye

This was such a fun and entertaining read, I think I finished this within one day! So the world building is short but it's mix with a modern world and fantasy aspect where there are Werewolves and fated mate situations.

Yvaine and Logan are absolutely adorable, and I loved how their relationship started. The whole secret-texter setup was so good and done well in my opinion. I especially the fact that Yvaine was unknowingly talking to the hottest enemy ever.

Tropes:
Fated Mates
Werewolves
Hate to Love kinda .................IYKYK
Jock x Smart Student

I'll probably continue with the series if I have the opportunity to read it again!

I only have a few issues with some of the jokes written in the book and the side characters need a little more development so we can feel attached to them more. But this is just my opinion.

Thank you so much to Luna Literary and Isabella Skye for the gifted e-ARC.

Logan has his reasons for keeping his identity from his rival’s sister, but when things become complicated between them, keeping secrets becomes a necessary evil.

Thoughts:
eARC generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity.

My feelings regarding this book were a whirlwind from start to finish. To be perfectly honest, I was very lukewarm at the start and had a difficult time adjusting to the writing style. There were a few times I genuinely thought I was going to DNF. YET, the story and absolutely over the top, insanely humorous, world and characters kept me reading. I nearly finished this in one setting because I just couldn’t stop. It was truly like eating junk food.

The culture and behavior of werewolves in this world is quite entertaining. They are over the top, vicious and possessive, and play a basically fatal sport called Wereball, which is just an excuse to beat up rival packs. I found myself endless charmed by the absolute lunacy of it all. It’s so wacky that it actually feels right? Like Teen Wolf on ecstasy.

There are multiple POVs, but the two main characters, Yvaine and Logan, were enjoyable and I definitely felt the tension and angst between them. They have the silliest fated mates situation, and after the cliffy, I find myself desperate for book two.

There is very little on page spice in this one, as the characters are getting to know each other, and aren’t technically together, but the culture of wolves is very sexual, so there’s is definitely spice coming.

Idk how I went from nearly DNFing to obsessed but this was like reality TV that your friend says you really need to watch, so you try it, think “omg, am I really watching this?” then you blink, and you’ve watched 47 episodes and follow all the actors on Instagram.

***

While I enjoyed the story quite a bit, there were some things I didn’t love (in ARC form at least). First, this really could use a professional edit. Some of the writing is really hard to follow and I found a lot of places where the writing was really awkward and, at times, cringey. Second, this could really benefit from sensitivity readers, as there were multiple instances of offensive or derogatory things that could have easily been changed: 1) referring to wet hair wrapped in a towel as a “turban,” 2) using fat as a derogatory insult and referring to a fat person as a pig (“looked like that little piglet, Babe”), and multiple, unnecessary instances of kink shaming. IMO, being insensitive and purposefully mean is not worth any perceived comedic effect. It was these instances, along with some odd writing, that led me to nearly DNF.

I read this in one night. I was so excited about this book and once I started I couldn't stop. There were so many emotions reading this book, I laughed, I teared up, I kicked my feet and giggled internally cause the banter was fantastic and the FMC was perfectly snarky. That ending though!!! It made me regret reading it so quickly because the next book seems so far away. The plot was interesting, not only between the FMC and MMC but the other characters as well. The characters had all their own stories going on and I loved how supportive they were of each other, especially when they needed their friends the most. My heart broke for C, hopefully we find out if things work out for him in book 2.

Thank you to Isabella and Luna Literary for the ARC!

I honestly do not remember the last time I read a werewolf novel, but I had fun reading this one!! There were so many elements I genuinely enjoyed, especially the banter, the hate-to-love dynamic, and the tension. The author’s take on fated mates was eye-catching, and the characters were fun and easy to root for, even though the fuckboy personality occasionally became a bit too much and almost annoying at times.

While I do have to say that some lines came across as cringey, many of them were genuinely funny. The delivery of those moments was humorous overall and definitely made the book an entertaining read.

I understand that this is still an ARC, so I am really hoping some edits were made before publication. There were a few lines and word choices that could come across as derogatory or offensive. Some of the kink shaming moments seemed intended to be comedic, but I could see how they might feel insensitive rather than funny to some readers.

Not going to lie, even though I enjoyed this book, I almost DNFed it due to the pacing and writing style. At times, it felt inconsistent, as if the tone shifted from professional to immature within a single page. I also felt there were quite a few textbook-style passages that acted as filler and could have been used instead to develop the characters or add more depth to the story. While I know this is the first book in a series, it did feel like not much happened in book one. I am hoping this was intentional for world-building and that book two is where everything truly comes together!

Overall, this was still an entertaining read, and I would recommend it to readers who are looking to start exploring shifter books 🖤

I should have paced myself better, book two too far away!

I had way more fun with Wereball than I expected. The concept of using a game as an outlet for everyone’s darker, more vicious instincts is honestly brilliant, and Isabella Skye really commits to it. Watching characters slowly (or not so slowly) unleash those tendencies made everything feel messier, sharper, and way more entertaining.
The story doesn’t pretend to be soft or polite, instead we leans into the chaos, the aggression, and the tension, and that’s exactly what makes it work. There’s humor throughout the madness, but also moments where things feel genuinely emotional and a little unhinged in the best way. The characters are fun, flawed, and sometimes brutal. I will never not be a fan of fated mates, so for me that’s always a win. I am also a fan of side characters that are more than just a passing glimpse!

Watch out for the cliffhanger!!!

I'd like to start by thanking Luna Literary and the author for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared are completely my own.

I read the first 20% of this book whilst waiting for my dentist appointment, and the last part in one sitting this evening because I could not put it down. Something in this grabbed me and had me hooked from start to finish. Our female main character Yvaine was so driven and focused in her goals, but seeing her let Rudolph into her life after their text meeting was like watching someone realise they do sometimes need something to focus on rather than surviving or being excellent.

It definitely felt like the werewolf stereotype of being vicious and possessive had been taken over the top for this book, but it really worked. The concept of wereball existing as a way to beat up other packs on the field and in the spectators stand, was just so funny and an excellent concept. It was also like watching Geordie Shore or Real Housewives, over the top chaotic drama that you can't look away from and are absolutely obsessed with.

I feel like we got to know a little bit about Logan throughout this book, but I feel like there is still so much more to unpack and explore. Especially his relationship with his wolf, with others and with Yvaine. I cannot wait to hopefully see more of him in the next book because there's definitely things we don't know yet.

Also whilst there is talk of spice in this book, there is no actual spice between our characters which I rather liked (surprising I know) as we got to see them mostly getting to know one another rather than just giving into the wolf mating urges.

The fated mates situation felt so cliche, but at the same time I was having a blast watching them realise who their mate was and try to do what they could for them without being attacked by the opposite pack. ALSO the way it came out about identities at the end was insane.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THE CLIFFHANGER OF INFORMATION WE WERE LEFT WITH. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW. WHAT HAPPENS IN SCOTLAND?? WHAT HAPPENS WITH LOGAN?? WHAT ABOUT IAN?? WHAT ABOUT YVAINES FRIENDS? AND HER MEDICAL DEGREE?? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I had such a silly fun time with this one!!

4,25⭐️ this was so DELICIOUS ?! I'm so glad books 2 & 3 are done and I will not have to wait for next year after that ending!!! like WHAT DO MEAN this giddy little book can end like THAT??

this had so many elements I could not have predicted would work so well together. medical school and doctor stuff, werewolves and mates (but not much of the inner wolves YET), sport matches, secret identities and BANTER, rival packs shakespearean vibes and brother's enemy! THE YEARNING?

this was so funny I was kicking my feet and I could not stop reading! she has scottish roots (yes there's irn-bru!) and the family situation is lovely! both found and blood! there are so many potential povs and massive personalities <3 and the nicknames are hilarious I'm sorry

🏉sport a bit like Pitball in Zodiac Academy
🌒rival pack alphas & teams
🏉secret identities 'til the end
🌒lots of bantery texting and hilarious phone calls
🏉many found family side characters with potential
🌒heart wrenching romantic sentiments
🏉medical school and college environment
🌒nerdy rambling doctor fmc x cocky obsessive jock mmc

I would have loved to know more about the werewolf traditions and inner wolves but I think they will make an appearance in the second book (october 2026 thank the moon)! sometimes the writing was hard to follow and the cheating behaviour of some characters was kind of brushed off. Still I loved the family love and twin stuff in this! ivy is very smart so how could she be so oblivious?? not that I'm complaining cause it made this so scrumptious and entertaining ;)

literally cannot wait for the next one!! thank you author and the Nerdfam for the ARC I'm obsessed!

Yvaine, a medical student, is wrapped up in a world of exams, Wereball, roommate romance drama, oh ...and finding out her mate is the Captain of the rival team!  Her playful banter, and budding friendship, via texts and calls with a stranger is a welcomed distraction from the chaos that has become her life.  Will she ever meet this stranger that infuriates her, but also makes her heart skip a beat?  Is this stranger keeping a secret that will shatter her world?

I enjoyed this Paranormal Sports Rom-Com.  It is the first sports Rom-Com that I've read, so it was new territory for me.

I think the approach that Last_Trex took regarding werewolves and their fated mates was unique.  Literal bleeding hearts when a mate is betrayed was heartbreaking for the reader to experience alongside the characters.

The side characters were really well developed and added so much to the overall story.  The sport of Wereball was fun to watch play out.

There was an aspect of suspense leading up to the end of this book and a cliffhanger into the next book in the series.  The suspensefulness did add to the overall story and kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next, which was not what I expected from a Rom-Com.

If I had any notes, it's that the banter at times was excessive, and immature, and I'd have preferred a bit faster of a plot progression.

Overall this was a fun YA novel and a great intro into Rom-Com for anyone that's not taken the leap yet!

I received this book as an ARC and my review is voluntarily provided.

Such a fun, spicy, can’t-put-it-down NA paranormal romance. I 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 lost sleep over this one. 𝑊𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑙: 𝐻𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑎𝑡 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑇𝑒𝑥𝑡 was my first Isabella Skye read, and safe to say I am officially obsessed and absolutely reading more from her.

This is book one in a trilogy (book two expected October 2026 and book three in early 2027), and it delivers a slow burn 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘦𝘴-𝘵𝘰-𝘩𝘪𝘮-𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺-𝘰𝘯-𝘩𝘪𝘴-𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘴 romance. A brilliant medical student paired with a popular wereball jock from a rival pack who also happens to be her brother’s rival… yeah, sign me up immediately.

The tension? Immaculate.
The texting banter? Addictive.
The hidden identity? Executed so well.

I devoured this book and am already impatiently waiting for book two.

𝐅𝐌𝐂: Yvaine Mackenzie, future neurosurgeon with zero patience for arrogant boys. 🩺
𝐌𝐌𝐂: Logan Draven, legendary wereball captain and walking campus red flag. 🚩

So why can’t they stop texting?
Why can’t he stay blocked?

Don’t walk, 𝑟𝑢𝑛 and download this one. You can thank me later. 🔥📱🐺

alright listen. I have no idea what the author put in here, but it was SO ADDICTING. once you start, you can't look away! it's like a tv show you've accidentally binged all 8 episodes of in one go. I devoured it in less than 24 hours, then proceeded to dm the author at 1:30 in the morning when I finished. 😂🤭 then stared into space trying to figure out what the heck I could read next to match what this gave.

I'm dyingg for book two, I mean come on, poor Rudy. 🥺 I need more of him asap and to see if he gets his mate back cause that ending broke my heart. (ps I'm being discreet here, if ya know, ya know.)

the world building is minimal, but it worked so well for this. I loved how caring all the characters are to each other, and I was giggling and kicking my feet so many times, especially with the texting! & honestly that's the part that sold me on wanting to read it in the first place. I'm a sucker for stuff like that and it was done so well.

more to expect :
- Tension
- Banter
- Hidden Identity
- Fated Mates
- Brother's Rival
- Playboy Jock / Med Student
- Sports Romance, but make it werewolves

thank you so much to Isabella, The Nerd Fam, and Luna Literary for gifting me an e-arc! I thoroughly enjoyed. 🥰❤️

if you know me then you know that i love werewolves and anything werewolf related so i knew i had to sign up first this book immediately!! i am so glad i did because it was such a good book!

there isn't much spice in this book since the main characters were really just getting to know one another. but i have a feeling book 2 will definitely heat up in the spice department which i am excited for 😅. i am also really craving book 2 after that cliffhanger as well. so many books with cliffhangers for me this week 😩 (but i secretly kinda love it)

i always say/mention loving and always looking forward to banter in a book so i was soo happy with the amount of fun banter in wereball! omg i was giggling and kicking my feet at times and just having the time of my life.

thank you so so much luna literary pr and isabella skye for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to read and review this amazing book!

I don't read a ton of wood shifter books but this story makes me want to read more! A perfect blend of banter, great characters, and a unique world.

I love a good college romance and really enjoyed seeing Yvianne in her med school element. She's a brilliant student on her way to being a neurosurgeon and her quick witted med terms was a blast to read. I even felt like I learned a thing or two! Logan is your typical self assured Jock and I really enjoyed his dynamic with Yvianne. Their banter was really fun to read!

Also, the fated mate situation was so cool. Like once you find your mate if you cheat your mate literally feels it and has a bleeding heart. Never read anything like that and felt it brought an interesting aspect to the genre. Plus that ending ahhh! I need book two asap. The ending sets up the rest of the series nicely.

Thank you for the gifted ebook!

This was a fun read and if you're looking for fun college shifter vibes this could be for you.

I did appreciate the author's unique take on the fated mates trope and really appreciated the FMC's friendships.

The pacing though didn't quite work for me. I felt like a lot more time was spent on the med school stuff (including just straight up textbook passages) than was needed and the final shifts between that and the often immature dialogue threw me off. I know series like this often and with cliffhangers but when it ended I found myself questioning if anything really had happened beyond some easily avoidable miscommunication.

Thanks to Nerdfam and Luna Literary for the ARC!

This was a fun read. I enjoyed the journey with the characters and my own anticipation of when they would officially find out who each other are. Obviously one side knew longer than the other and used that knowledge to his advantage! I especially loved the party where Logan showed up, they danced and he snuck the necklace around Yvaine's neck. so sweet! I'm dying for Book 2 to see what happens in Scotland and what Yvaine decides!

What a fun and addicting experience, I did not want to put this book down. It was very interesting to follow werewolves, that lived like humans would. Meanwhile humans were mentioned but none were MC. I loved the way the author incorporated the texting back and forth and can’t wait to see what the actual printed book looks like, being that I had a e-ARC.

If you enjoy the tropes, this is for you:
Fated Mates
Paranormal Romance
Brother’s Rival
Sports Romance

I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to buy a shelf trophy. It does end on a cliffhanger but with how fast paced the book was it made it bare able. Thank you Luna Literary for my ARC opportunity.

I went into Wereball (Hate At First Text #1) ridiculously excited, but nothing could have prepared me for how completely it would take over my life. I started it “just for a few chapters”… and suddenly it was 2 a.m., my heart was racing, and I was promising myself one more page for the tenth time. Safe to say — sleep was lost, emotions were felt, and I regret absolutely nothing. 😭✨

From the very beginning, this story wrapped itself around me with humor, tension, and a spark that refused to let go. I laughed out loud, teared up when I least expected it, and fully kicked my feet at some of the banter because WOW — the chemistry was unreal. And that ending?! I genuinely regretted reading it so fast because now the wait for book two feels cruel and unusual. 🥲

At the heart of the story is Yvaine Mackenzie — a fiercely driven neurosurgery student who has zero time for arrogant werewolves or the idea of fated mates. Her life is perfectly structured: hospital shifts, textbooks, matcha dates with roommates, and worrying about her twin brother surviving the brutal sport of wereball (basically football… but make it feral 🐺). Everything is under control until one innocent decision — lending out her phone — results in the filthiest anonymous text from a rival player she already knows she can’t stand.

What starts as irritation turns into late-night conversations, sharp-witted bickering, and a connection neither of them is ready to acknowledge. The mystery texter she nicknames “Rudolph” somehow becomes the person who sees her most clearly… but secrets lurk behind the screen, and when identities collide, so do hearts. Watching their relationship evolve from hostility to something achingly vulnerable had me completely invested. Because what happens when the werewolf you hate becomes the one you literally can’t live without? 💔➡️❤️

Yvaine was the kind of FMC I instantly adored — brilliantly snarky, ambitious, emotionally guarded, yet deeply loyal. And Logan Draven? Legendary wereball captain, campus heartthrob, walking red flag… and somehow still irresistible. The tension between them was immaculate. Every text felt charged, every interaction layered with meaning, and the slow burn enemies-to-him-literally-on-his-knees romance had me internally screaming. 🔥

But what made this book shine even brighter was the cast around them. Every character felt alive with their own struggles and storylines, and the friend group’s unwavering support warmed my heart. When they showed up for each other in their lowest moments, it added such emotional depth to the story. And C… my heart genuinely broke for him. I am desperately hoping book two gives him the happiness he deserves. 🥺

The hidden identity trope was executed beautifully — not frustrating, not dragged out — just the perfect balance of anticipation and emotional payoff. The plot never felt one-dimensional either; it blended romance, pack dynamics, college life, secrets, and personal growth in a way that kept me completely hooked.

This was my first Isabella Skye read, and let me just say — I am officially obsessed. Immediately-read-everything-this-author-has level obsessed. 📚💫

Perfect for fans of:
🐺 Enemies-to-lovers with electric tension
📱 Hate-to-love texting dynamics
🔥 Slow burn with explosive chemistry
🎭 Hidden identity
🏈 Rival packs / sports romance vibes
💉 Brilliant, career-driven FMC
🚩 Popular jock MMC who secretly falls harder
👯 Found family & supportive friendships
🌙 NA paranormal romance with spice

If you love romances that make you laugh, ache, swoon, and completely lose track of time — don’t walk, run to download this one. You can thank me later. 😉

Thank you so much to Isabella Skye and The Nerd Fam for the ARC opportunity — I enjoyed this one tremendously and cannot wait for what comes next!

(3⭐️) Wereball is a fast-paced, werewolf shifter romance set on a university campus with pack dynamics, extreme sports and fun, banter-filled romantic tension.

We follow Yvaine, a dedicated med student with zero time for supernatural drama, whose orderly life is upended by a series of mysterious texts from someone she nicknames ‘Rudolph’. Little does she know, that her anonymous penpal is actually the arrogant, promiscuous captain of the rival wereball team, and also her mate. But can Yvaine reconcile the two versions of the man she’s getting to know, the flirty stranger she’s connecting with on her phone and his brutal reputation on the field?

What I loved:
- The banter and texting-to-romance thread were genuinely fun to read and highly amusing. Logan’s cryptic and flirty messages and Yvaine’s reactions and sassy retorts provided plenty of hilarious moments. This pair have some serious chemistry and the author manages to perfectly encapsulate that butterflies-in-your-tummy feeling of a steamy crush in your early 20s.
- The story is fast-paced, with dual POV helping to keep the story engaging as we bounce between Yvaine and Logan, seeing the penpal and newfound mate dynamic unfold from both their lens.
- I was impressed by how Yvaine navigates cancer through both a medical and personal lens, a tough feat in a story that’s mostly fun and light-hearted, yet the author handles this topic with a lot of care and sensitivity. This added a real level of emotion and heart to the story which I appreciated.

What lacked for me:
- While the banter sizzled 90% of the time, the other 10% left me cringing or uncomfortable. There’s a fine line between crude humour and misogyny, but joking about the way vaginas smell came off juvenile and tasteless.
- As much as I went into this fully expecting the sport to be brutal, I was very taken aback by how violently aggressive and possessive Logan was, in particular during the last game when he beat up one of the side characters so badly he was unrecognisable. It was frankly off-putting.
- Also I felt like Yvaine lost a lot of her fiery and independent personality as soon as her mate bond clicked into place. She was instantly gushy and head over heels, leaving the story to feel insta-lust rather than slow burn.

Overall, Wereball had the potential to bring a lot of fun and a sporty twist to the shifter romance genre, but a distinct lack of actual werewolf shifting left me feeling disappointed. While the story wasn’t everything that I had hoped it would be, it did deliver a lot of laughs and swoon-worthy text exchanges that will keep readers entertained.

Thank you to Isabella Skye and Luna Literary for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review, I am grateful for the opportunity to share my thoughts ahead of the book’s release on the 30th January 2026.

What caught my attention about this book was the cover and the title. I wasn't sure what to think of it at first, but then I decided to sign up and I ended up enjoying the book. This story gave off almost Romeo and Juliet vibes when it came to forbidden romance in this book. There were two packs that played sports against each other but also lived separately because they were enemies. Yvaine is a quiet girl. She put her studies and everyone before her needs. She would be the friend everyone needs in the world. I adore the relationship she has with her twin brother. It just tells you, even with werewolf twins, they still share a close bond. Logan was definitely a playboy and used women for pleasure. All the women wanted him. Yvaine was the opposite of the girls who desired Logan. I find it funny how a random phone call started texting and talking on the phone. Logan kept his identity a secret, while Yvaine was honest about herself. Wereball is like the high event in their town. Everyone went to the game. They did share one thing in common, both fathers were alphas. I think it is romantic that Yvaine's father is madly in love with his mate. It reminded me of my grandparents' relationship. My grandpa was crazy about his love and went crazy when she went away too long on a trip as well. I admire couples like that. Logan's and Yvaine's conversations were heartfelt and funny. I laughed a lot at them. Logan and Yvaine actually reminded me of what cross-star lovers are in this generation. I wish Logan told Yvaine sooner who he was to avoid the problems later. I felt so bad for her after. She felt betrayed and lied to. I understand his reasons for why he did, but he could have at least tried before the game to make it right. Maybe things would have been less complicated. I hope in the next sequel they reunite and get together. I hope Logan goes after her in Scotland and makes it up to her. If you like fated mates, drama, college vibes, Romeo and Juliet vibes, sport romance, and werewolves, then you will enjoy this story. I did. I hope to see part two of this book. I am counting on it.

Thank you to the author and Luna Literary for the gifted e-arc. So I don't normally delve into romcom's but this one caught my attention. I also don't normally do sports but after loving 2 books by a different author I said let's do it. I LOVED IT. I loved that I got so much time to laugh with the back and forth with the FMC and MMC and pack antics. The characters are all memorable and I can't wait for more of them as there are 3 books for this planned.

Our FMC Yvaine is med school focused. Her friends she lives with also med school. They all have their own reasons for going into medical fields and some of them are heart wrenching but it also makes the story so much more endearing. She is also a pretty feisty character who comes up with some adorable nicknames and Rudolph for being rude takes the cake and makes me want to use it. She's funny and adorable.

Rudolph is a character. He's rude, but then he's rude in a good way also. He knows how to make you laugh. He's also pretty bold at points and I just love the attitude he has. His character was full of intrigue for me and with the ending makes me want to know him more.

The storyline I felt was fantastic! I'm a fact person. I love random facts and one of the characters Amaia is that person! She's med school focused; she's got such a heart wrenching backstory from what we get and her focus is understandable. But I really love the facts she just spouts at times. She reminds me of me in person and in awkward social situations. I really want to hug her.

If you want a story that has plenty of comedy to it but also touches on the serious notes I'm gonna recommend this story. This is coming from someone who doesn't generally do romcoms and sports and this is now the second sports story I've fallen in love with. Also I recommend reading the author bio at the front and the acknowledgements at the back as it gave me a much bigger connection with the author and where some of the things in the story came from. Relating made it even more endearing.

Do you enjoy a bit of chemistry lessons with your romance? Or perhaps quite lovable MMCs, whom you'd however prefer to smack for a good part of the book? In that case, Wereball: Hate at First Text is exactly the book for you!

Now, a little more seriously, served with a side of well-meant, but not as well-received white lies, we have Logan. Aka Lucien. Aka Terminator. Aka Rudolph... Anyways, character-wise, I love him. Personality-wise, he's an asshole. Don't get me wrong, I love me a good broody dark alpha male, but I don't exactly appreciate the lying. I also have quite a love-hate relationship with him being Not Like Other Girls™. Yvette, on the other hand, is exactly what I love in a FMC. Strong, independent, a little awkward, but incredibly lovable. And it might've just been me watching Bones in the background as I read this book, but Yvette is exactly how I would imagine young Temperance Brennan. But now I'm getting off-topic.

The plot is structured quite well, and while I usually say that no romance book needs to be over 500 pages long, this one didn't feel like it was, even though it was 542 (although that might've just been the ARC formatting, since the official Kindle version says to be 393). I liked the dual 1st person POV, although I would've liked to read a little more from Logan's perspective. The only reason why I docked a star was probably the quite chaotic ending, as that's when there's suddenly a whole bunch of character POVs, which just confused me, and overall the cliffhanger at the end... well, no spoilers.

Otherwise, if I tell you that I devoured the second half of this book in just over an hour, you wouldn't believe me. Once I hit the end of Chapter 17, I could not put it down, I just had to finish it... and now I have to wait until October for the sequel.

All in all, I loved this book and I want to thank Luna Literary and the author for the eARC!

This book had me in a chokehold from the very first chapter. I couldn't put it down. Wereball: Hate at First Text is chaotic, funny, tense, and ridiculously addictive in the best way.

Yvaine instantly won me over. She’s sharp, ambitious, and laser-focused on medical school, carrying the weight of responsibility for her future and her family. Watching her juggle exams, pack drama, and the brutal world of wereball already had me invested, but then add in anonymous late-night texts with a mystery rival? I was DONE. Her snark, intelligence, and refusal to be impressed by arrogance made her such a refreshing FMC.

And Logan… wow. The confidence. The yearning. He’s everything you expect from a rival pack captain and absolutely not what you expect at the same time. Cocky and aggravating on the surface, but layered with loyalty, vulnerability, and a pull toward Yvaine that neither of them can ignore. Their chemistry, especially through texts, was unreal. The banter was laugh-out-loud funny, emotionally charged, and had me kicking my feet more times than I can count. Between the rival packs, secret identities, and the slow realization of what fate has actually done to these two, the tension just kept building and building.

The friendships felt real, supportive, and emotional, and every side character felt like they had a purpose and a future story waiting to unfold. The found-family vibes added so much heart to the chaos.

And that ending? Cruel. Diabolical. I stared at the page in disbelief and immediately needed the next book. If you love enemies-to-lovers, secret texting, rival packs, fated mates, sharp banter, and paranormal college chaos, this one is absolutely worth the emotional damage. I’m obsessed, impatient, and counting down until book two.

*I was given this book as an eArc but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*

I don’t think I’ve ever read a shifter/fated mates sports romance before. I actually really like it and the concept. This was a genre I didn’t know I needed in my life.

I love the banter, it does make me chuckle. I do think there might be a bit too much of it at times though but I found myself legit grinning at my kindle during heir texting conversations. Ugh too cute, adorable Ms

I wish the mmc had more endearing qualities. It took 30% into it for me to start kinda liking him but thank goodness you really get into him and personality. I love a reformed playboy story arc. Also, why do I love his obsession with waffles? lol

It’s interesting to see werewolves succumb to human medical problems. Normally a lot of them are immune or heal fast, etc. Wish I got more information on how and why that was possible.

Theres a lot of fated relationships that don’t work in this book. It’s like fated doesn’t many what it’s supposed to with how many messed up ones there are. Because there are so many, I wondered how a player who swears off relationships, all of a sudden was in love when they first met when others like him aren’t.

Not sure how I feel about there multiple POV towards the end. So much information left unsaid. I was hoping the next book would be her friends pov’s and kind of go over what happened to them in this book. No information about why her friends did a lot of things.

The ending was cool. A good cliffhanger but not one that got me screaming or angry hahaha. I enjoyed the book and will continue the series.

Woah…. What do you mean the end for now?? I need to know what happens next!! This story was absolutely amazing! From beginning to end I couldn’t put this book down! I was immediately drawn in by Logan and Yvaine banter, and chemistry and found myself devouring this whole book in one sitting just waiting to see how things would play out… and I can for certain say I wasn’t expecting that cliffhanger ending! If you’re looking for a book that’s filled with a unique take on werewolves, fated mates, rival packs, great friendships and amazing families, plenty of romance and a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat then I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Wereball today!

I really enjoyed everything about Wereball, the plot was interesting and a unique twist on the werewolves romance books I’ve read in the past. And I just really loved the characters, all of them. I will admit Yvaine took a min for me warm up to she came off just a little snotty at first but once you start to see her interact with her friends, and family, and even Logan you can’t help but love how much she loves her people and just wants to protect them and what’s best for them. As for Logan he might’ve been a player but I loved him immediately and honest I want so much more of his POV! All the side characters were just fantastic and I can’t wait to see more of them in book two. Truly I could go on and on about how I loved the characters, the hilarious banter, the chemistry and sweet moments between Logan and Yvaine but honestly I don’t want to spoil even a moment of this book! So go add this to your TBR immediately because it’s definitely worth the read!

Wereball (Hate At First Text #1) by Isabella Skye is a wildly fun paranormal romcom that had me hooked from the first unhinged text message. I went in completely blind and came out already impatient for books two and three. This one absolutely deserves a spot on your TBR.

The banter is the star of the show. I genuinely don’t know how Isabella Skye managed to build this much chemistry almost entirely over text messages, but it works and it works so well. The enemies-to-lovers tension is sharp, funny, and addictive, and the fact that the characters don’t actually meet for most of the book somehow makes it even better. Every message crackles with personality, humor, and just enough emotional vulnerability to keep you glued to the page.

Yvaine is a smart, sassy FMC who instantly won me over. Her medical background adds a fun, intelligent layer to the story, and I loved the little bits of medical knowledge sprinkled throughout. The modern-day setting, paired with werewolves and pack politics, feels fresh and surprisingly grounded. The worldbuilding is clear, engaging, and easy to sink into without bogging down the pacing.

The side characters bring so much life and comedy, perfectly capturing the chaos of college life, alpha dynamics, and pack expectations. The story balances rivalry, grief, fate, and found connection in a way that feels both chaotic and genuinely heartfelt. It’s funny, emotional, and impossible to put down.

While this first book is lighter on spice, the tension more than makes up for it and knowing that the next two books will turn up the heat has me counting the days. This is a fast, bingeable read with major romcom vibes and just enough emotional depth to sneak up on you.

If you love romcoms, werewolves, banter, enemies-to-lovers, and modern paranormal romance, you’re going to have an absolute blast with this one.

Thank you to Isabella Skye and Luna Literary Management for the opportunity to read early — I’m officially seated for the rest of this series. 🖤🐺📱

You know a book has fully sucked you in when you don’t end up setting it down until it’s done and it’s suddenly 3am! I cannot believe that ending and need the next book ASAP please!

This book is set in our modern time, but with many werewolf packs making up a chunk of society and pretty much all the characters of this book coming from a few main rival packs. Our FMC is focused on her career and becoming a doctor, but does save some time for her friends and occasional hookup while she waits to meet her mate. When a chance text exchange leads to an unexpected friendship and then her also meeting her mate in a rival pack, our FMC has a lot to juggle outside of just school and her alpha family. She must decide if she can get over her mates interesting past and deal with her family likely hating him without even meeting him.

I really loved the FMC in this book and how human she felt even though she’s a werewolf. I related to her dedication to both her family/friends and her schooling and how hard she tries in everything. I also loved this sport of wereball and how exciting it seems, and it made this book both a fantasy and sports romance crossover. I also really enjoyed the multiple POVs and getting to see into both the MMCs mind as well as a few friends in addition to the main POV of the FMC. After that reveal I would have felt the same way as the FMC and the twist at the very end has me excited to see where the next book goes! Overall my rating 4.4/5!
