"Marry me or watch your company burn." That's how Axel Pierce—my biggest rival and brother's best friend—proposed our fake engagement.

Some call him a corporate shark.
I call him the devil in a three-piece suit.

Too bad he kisses like an angel and touches me like he means it.

Now every staged dinner feels like foreplay.
Every public appearance tests our control.
And every night I'm left

Is this elaborate charade really about saving our companies...
Or is there something else he's trying to claim?

📚 Book #3 in the interconnected Standalone Series " Sinners & Saints"
🗣️ Dual POV

🖤 M/F

This was my first book by Kathy Lockheart, so obviously first in this series that I have read. I didnt feel like I missed anything by not reading the other books, there was a sufficient amount of background provided to who the other characters in the friend group were and how they intertwined.

This was Axel & Dakota's story, but it really intertwines with Knox and pieces of his story since Axel is Knox's best friend and Dakota is Knox's sister. It kinda threw me off, because we dont really know Knox and we dont get the background that I wish that we did about why he is in prison. We get enough to understand some things but not enough to scratch the itch needed. I am sure it will come, but it was enough to be annoying especially knowing that the next book is Ryker & Faith and not Knox's.

Axel can be a huge man child, but I did like Dakota. I liked her revelations as things clicked into place for her the further she got away from her ex. Thats not to say that I didnt want to slap her upside her head every time she cared about Matthews feelings or wanted to reach out to him and talk even after he kept showing her his true colors.

I do appreciate that once Axel gets his head out of his ass, he makes it his mission to show Dakota just how much she is worth. I also appreciated how much he loved her from afar. I dont agree with his stupid reason for being a jackass to her, but without that we wouldnt have this whole story 🤷‍♀️

Anywho, if the vibes and tropes below fit your needs, I recommend giving this book a try. It was well written/edited, with an engaging story.

#Review: *Bound* - Kathy Lockheart - ARC [18+]
4.8/5✨
3/5🌶️

Because of a photo Dakota had taken and had posted online, everything changed for her and the man she loathed. How so? Well, both their images had suffered after that moment and the only way to fix everything was to pretend to be a couple. But those feelings inside them have never disappeared, even if they weren't exactly in the best place. Will they be able to stick to their deal and not get hurt in the end? Well, things were definitely going to get super complicated, and not just because of their feelings, but because there was an invisible threat that was jeopardizing what they had, real or not.

As usual, Kathy knows so well how to capture my attention!😍 I loved that we had that gradual change of dynamics in the story, transforming that enemies to lovers status into something really beautiful, very sweet and addicting. Axel may have looked like one of those grumpy, serious guys, but that was only a mask because he was trying his best to hide what was, in fact, present in his heart. And that was a pretty heavy task for him. Dakota had to figure out how to be in such a close proximity to this man, when she had all those feelings which almost bursted out of her.

Their fake relationship was really captivating to follow, especially because of all that suspense which accompanied the love story. It was so intriguing to see how everything unfolded and to keep guessing who was the villain of this book. For sure a super thrilling read, one which entranced my attention and kept me on my toes! I loved it!

Note to self:

Axel is the manwhore of all manwhores. Every other manwhore just looks down to Axel to mimick his sleazy behaviour. I actually feel sorry for Dakota to end up with such a specimen.

Anyway, avoiding this book like The Plague, since I hated his ass in Book 1 and then hated his ass even more in Book 2. If Crass and Vulgar had a baby, it would be named Axel. 😏 💅

ok enough with my ranting. I feel bad because I love Kathy Lockheart and I adored books 1 and 2 but a filthy manwhore is just not my cup of tea. ☕️ (Never understood why they're romanticised in romance when in real life women would be giving them a WIDE berth).

Admittedly not my favorite of the series. Axel was funny in the first two books and provided the comedic relief in books that were otherwise very heavy. In this book, however, he was simply a grade A jerk with very few redeeming qualities. The whole storyline seemed far-fetched with the viral video making them a target and putting his business at risk of collapse. The plot twist was very easy to figure out, and the story just felt contrived.

Looking forward to Ryder and Faith’s story in 2026.

I opened this book thinking I was ready. Bound is the third book in the Sinners and Saints series and boy did she bring it with this one!

One of my favorite things about Kathy’s book is every single time I open one of her books, I fall in love with it! The twists in this book had me on the edge of my seat and giggling out loud so often! Then the banter between Axel and Dakota. FREAKING HILARIOUS! The car with eye lashes made so much more sense.

Axel and Dakota’s dynamic was addictive from POWER. Watching Dakota shed her armor piece by piece was completely gorgeous. Then we got to see Axel go from ruthless businessman to a man who would burn the world down for her. He challenged her in all the right ways. pushed her to believe she was worthy. Which in turn made their connection that much better.

Then the boys group chats? If you need a good laugh and just fun, read those! They had me cracking up! I eat it all up each time. It’s one of my favorite things about this series. They can joke and give each other a hard time then flip the switch and be there for each other without question.

What to Expect:

Somehow, it didn't surprise me that Axel would protect me from any bully. Even if that bully was me.

You know it's a fan-bloody-tastic book when you've got 3,294,694,183 quotes and highlights all over it, which happens to every single installment in Kathy's Sinners and Saints series so far, and Bound is no exception.

What I love most about this series is that though all of the characters are interconnected, each book can be read as a standalone, so you can easily pick up whichever catches your eye. The third book, Bound, follows Axel and Dakota, two childhood besties thanks to Dakota's older brother and Axel's college best friend, Knox, who is currently locked up in prison due to murder, and how they reconnect after years of avoiding each other like the plague for unknown reasons. To my surprise, it turns out that both of them have been secretly protecting each other from being hurt in life, and their mutual pining completely melts my heart!

Just when I'm convinced that Axel is incapable of loving someone else with all his playboy image and happy-go-lucky personality, he ends up being one of the most thoughtful & (over)protective boyfriends I've ever met and learning how far he's willing to go for Dakota is the proof of ultimate love itself. *watery heart eyes* In true Kathy's fashion, the story will not be perfect without a dash of dark romance; thus, the mafia threat here totally keeps me at the edge of my seat and has me hold my breath the entire time. It is THAT intense, guys. And don't get me started on the PLOT TWIST at 95% of the book...I mean, yeah, I kinda have this sixth sense instinctual feeling towards Dakota's psychotic ex, but still, HE gives me chills through and through.

Anyways, needless to say, Bound is a must read just like the first two books in this series. Axel and Dakota's story will make your heart feel so full and at the same time, getting to spend quality time with the whole Sinners and Saints gang and their respective girls is the cherry on top. I feel like I've known these guys my whole life and how I wish I could be a part of them in reality. Better yet, we'll get to see more of Ryker and Faith in the next book, Doubt, coming in early 2026, so stay tuned!

I received Bound in return for an honest review in return from the author.

Bound is the third book in the Sinners and Saints Series featuring a friends group. This story centers around Dakota an influencer and successful business owner Axel who happens to be her brothers best-friend so of course she's off limits. It's only fake dating when one little picture throws their lives together the long time attraction can't be denied.

I love Dakota and Alex the prank war was fantastic I had to google to see if anyone offered a pink cat car convertible because that would be great to pick my daughter up in one day. I really enjoyed the banter that they shared and they had this sweet yet steamy romance between them. I have loved all the characters in the series so far it's always hard to pick my favorite but it may be Axel but who knows still a few friends in the group to go.

I have loved all the authors books she's nailed it with another captivating story that hooked me right from the start. I ended up devouring it in just one reading session and a couple of hot cups of coffee. It's perfect to spend the day lost in Dakota and Axel's love story. I love that each book give us past characters so recommend reading in order. Highly recommend if you love billionaire romance with banter. Every book in this series has been chef's kiss perfect and I can't wait to read all their happy ever afters even Dakota's brother. Hint Hint.

This isn't the first series by the author I've read she's a beautiful storyteller and every book has been amazing. With characters you can't help falling in love with and living rent free in my head. I have loved them all. She's one of my auto buy favorite authors.

I really enjoyed this book, it captivated me from the very first chapter. I originally planned to read it over a couple of days, but the tension was so good that I ended up staying up until 3 AM just to see how it all ended.

Axel and Dakota have electric chemistry from the start. This was a perfect enemies to lovers story filled with great banter and fun tropes. I especially loved the humor, I laughed so hard at Dakota’s ultimate revenge prank!

The plot itself is a wild ride. It starts with a viral scandal involving a compromising photo of Axel and a senator’s wife, which leads to a high stakes fake engagement to save both their careers.

My only real gripe is the ending. It wasn’t bad, but it felt a bit rushed compared to the heavy drama of the rest of the book. We go from a life threatening situation to everything being perfectly fine almost instantly. I would have loved to see more of the "in between" after all that drama!

That being said, this has been a very enjoyable series so far. It’s fun, fast paced, and the cliffhanger intro of Faith and Ryker has me geared up for the next book.

Trope Checklist:
* Enemies to Lovers
* Fake Engagement
* Billionaire CEO x Influencer
* "He fell first"
* Forced Cohabitation

My gosh, this may be my favourite book out of the series so far! I already knew I was gonna love Axel, but this broke my heart and put it back together again. I was crying at 2am and I’m most definitely not forgetting this book for a long time. I love a good fake dating romance especially when it’s also an enemies to lovers. Their banter is insane and there’s just so much tension as they struggle to admit their feelings for each other. Axel may act like an asshole but he’s a softie at heart. He acts like he hates her, but he seeks her approval like a lost puppy and gets so happy when she says she likes his room. And Dakota has her own troubles but Axel is her rock during all of it. It’s very emotional as this book tackles themes of insecurity and the perfectly planned perfection you see on social media. It was a thrilling read with good twists and amazing characters. Their chemistry, their history and their burning love for each other made this book spectacular. My one problem was the final plot twist, because it just seemed to be plopped in there for the sake of a final terrifying plot twist. The characters were already fully developed and I think the book could have done without it. But overall I had an amazing time reading this, could not put it down and I give it a 5/5

**ARC REVIEW**

Bound by Kathy Lockheart is the first book in the Sinners and Saints series that I’ve read, and it works perfectly as a standalone—I had no trouble jumping in.

This was a fast-paced, entertaining read that grabbed me from the very first page. The writing is sharp, the plot engaging, and the character dynamics are full of energy. I especially loved the group chats between Axel and his friends—they were clever, funny, and definitely a highlight.

Watching Dakota and Axel’s story unfold was an absolute blast. Their chemistry is off the charts, their banter witty and playful, and the prank war added a chaotic, fun layer to their interactions. The sexual tension between them is palpable, keeping the story exciting without ever feeling overdone.

Overall, Bound is a binge-worthy romance with enemies-to-lovers vibes, humor, high stakes, and a swoon-worthy, possessive hero. If you enjoy fake engagements and forced proximity romance with sparks flying, this one is definitely worth a read!

YUP. THAT’LL DO IT 👏
If you’re looking for a fast pace, but also the most delicious slow burn with so much funny too, look no further. You’ve found your book 🙌
I’m not going to lie. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this one. Out of all the guys, I think Axel was the one I was pretty unsure about just because of his playboy ways, but holy crap did Axel become my favorite guy in the series so far🙌 I mean talk about a man on his knees🧎🔥
And sweet baby Dakota 🥹 what a sweet PERFECT angel 💝 but don’t get it twisted, girl knows how to get revenge 😈😻🚗😂
I freaking loved loved Axel and Dakota. They definitely took my favorite couple in the series spot. That’s for sure.
This story was absolutely 🧑‍🍳💋
HIGHLY recommend this series!

Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc. This was a fun read. Their relationship was built in love disguised as love and that made their interactions super fun to read. Their banter and prank were hilarious and again, the found family in this series is perfect, no one is left behind and they always have their back no matter what. I saw the plot twist coming but didn’t expected to develop the way it did but I definitely liked it. The only thing that bothered me was the inner monologue in Dakota’s chapters, they were too long and too descriptive for me and sometimes that bored me but overall I still liked the book.

Bound is book 3 in the Sinners and Saints series and follows Dakota and Axel's story.

"Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is let them see the real you."

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the banter between Axel and Dakota. I felt the authenticity there between the characters especially when they were verbal sparring and pulling pranks on each other. Like any two people who knew each other for years and had secret feelings for each other but never acted on it. I love when they finally have that F-It moment too! You had spice, humor and suspense (stemming from social media).

What I especially loved was the message that Kathy added to this story about having people seeing the real you. Not the glossed over highlight reel that we portray on social media. We have to stop playing the comparison game and share what really matters. Not what's going to get the most likes. Social Media can be the thief of joy and I see it everyday with the students I work with. I thought it was a beautiful message to be your authentic self!

I'm looking forward to book 4, Faith and Ryker's story!

Welllll. Im not quite sure why I got this book. I enjoyed the previous one in this series and kinda liked Axel. But the whole thing is about going viral online and I just can’t with influencers. I dislike the concept of people oversharing or faking their lives on social media. Heck, I don’t *like* social media. I have like, the one FB account, and I use it exclusively for groups specific to my kids disease or mine. And even those aren’t as useful now that we have AI. So. I can’t say I related to the characters in any way shape or form. Add in how stupid the heroine is acting with the ex situation and the mean pranks and it had me wanting to throw my tablet at the wall. So I gave up at 37%.

This book was all over the place. I almost DNFd it in the first 25% because there was no depth or emotional connection BUT I am glad I hung on. I don’t tend to enjoy books with influencer plot devices so that also wasn’t my favorite. But once the plot thickens the story really takes off and it was enjoyable watching them fall in love and get to know each other. Their epic prank war was really fun!
Overall the pacing and plot devices weren’t my favorite but there is a lot to like here

Kathy writes the best romantic suspense novels. I have loved every single one I have read, and I can’t wait to read more from her. Dakota and Axel brought some delicious tension that they tried to disguise with their hatred for each other. The prank war was hilarious and epic. I adored it. They both want to make themselves believe they don’t want each other, but that only works for so long. Their fake engagement forces them to live together and confront their feelings.

This whole series by Kathy has been fantastic, as has been her previous series. If you like romantic suspense with a spice, I highly recommend her books. They are available on KU. I hope you will love them as much as I do!

Favorite Quotes:
“You deserve passion that leaves marks on your soul, not just your body. The kind that has you daydreaming in meetings and blushing at random memories. You deserve someone who looks at you like you’re their personal religion.” His voice dropped to a growl. “And when you finally fall apart, completely undone, I’d put you back together just to do it all over again. As many times as you could take it.”

“Because, Sunshine, what I’m feeling right now? The way seeing you hurt makes me want to tear the world apart? That’s not fake. And I don’t think what you’re feeling is fake either.”

But they weren’t flaws at all. They were love letters written on my body, proof of where I came from, evidence of being loved. And being unique.

When Dakota accidentally posts a photo publicly rather than privately as she had intended, it sets off a ripple effect. Now she and the object of the picture, her nemesis, Axel Pierce, have to publicly engage in a fake relationship to save both their companies and their reputations. A fake engagement shouldn't be anything but a way to save face for these two rivals, but they didn't take into consideration their innate chemistry and all those feelings they've never acknowledged. This billionaire and influencer are in for a bumpy ride trying not to fall in love all while in the very public eye.

Not only was the tension and chemistry between Dakota and Axel seriously hot, their prank war was hilarious! I wish I could see the cat car prank acted out onscreen, and them falling in love without admitting it would be something I'd love to watch with my hubby. Bound is snarky, funny and hot, but it also has some heavy themes running underneath all the fun and heat. Social media is a menace, but Dakota realized something quite profound because of it, being your true self is the way to be, not the carefully cultivated, fake persona she had always shown to her followers. It's always fun when a billionaire playboy falls to his knees for his special person, Axel did it in spectacular fashion, with the one woman who was perfect for him. The Sinners and Saints just keep getting better, I'm impatiently waiting for Ryker's story, Doubt: A Forbidden Brother’s Best Friend Romance, now.

Review:
This was a disappointing third installment in the Sinners and Saints series. I wasn’t expecting literary gold—I was expecting another fast-paced, thrilling, over-the-top, soapy read. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me on several levels.

So much of the story felt either wildly unrealistic and blown out of proportion or half-baked and underexplored. Axel’s intense hatred of social media and influencers, while understandable on a surface level, felt oddly disconnected from his actual trauma. Given his mother’s story, it would have made far more sense for him to have deep aversions to wealth, excess, or alcohol. Instead, all of that pain seemingly manifests as rage toward “fake people,” which felt contrived. Adding to that, his father is barely addressed at all— The absence of clarity made Axel’s backstory feel incomplete.

Dakota’s struggles made slightly more sense but still stretched believability. I could understand how her brother’s conviction and the attention surrounding it caused her to feel neglected and pushed her toward perfectionism.

The fake engagement plotline was another major issue. I never expect fake dating or marriages of convenience to be fully realistic, but the catalyst here—a taboo photo posted online—felt like an egregious stretch. How often do influencers actually make headlines unless they’re truly massive? Dakota isn’t really described as an Alix Earle-level celebrity, though that may have been the intent.

What I liked:
The spice was… fine. Not her best, but serviceable. Other than that, there were some genuinely funny moments. I fully lost it when she rented the Hello Kitty car—that scene alone is the reason this book is getting 1.5 stars instead of one. And despite all the problems, the plot did move quickly. Even with the countless holes and unrealistic elements, I was able to read it fast.

Overall, this book left me more annoyed than entertained. I’ll probably still read Ryker’s story, but after this installment, my enthusiasm for the series has definitely taken a hit.

Oh my goodness, Kathy Lockheart has done it again! Bound is a phenomenal read, and a wonderful addition to the Saints and Sinners series. I devoured this book and I absolutely loved it! This one centers around Axel and Dakota. Axel runs a successful construction business and has a reputation as Chicago's greatest playboy. He also happens to be Dakota's brother's best friend. Dakota is a social media influencer. These two met years prior and had a good relationship. But suddenly, it seemed to Dakota that Axel flipped a switch and became cold and distant, often picking fights. Now the two are like oil and water. An accidental social media mistake on Dakota's part causes a huge PR nightmare for Axel's business as well as her own. In order to protect their businesses, Dakota and Axel have to fake an engagement. Sparks begin to fly, an ex boyfriend returns, and danger surrounds the couple leading to me being unable to stop turning the pages. But the best thing about this book, really about all of Kathy's books, is how she writes her characters. She tackles trauma in such a respectful, meaningful, and relateable way. Both the main characters in this book have trauma. Axel came from a country club family with parents that placed all their attention on projecting outward perfection, portraying the perfect family publicly, while privately they were hateful and Axel's mother was an alcoholic (which caused her death). Given this past trauma, Axel believes he doesn't want a serious romantic relationship with anyone and he certainly doesn't want children. Dakota's influencer job, showing staged perfection on social media, is a huge trigger for Axel. But Dakota and his hidden feelings for her make him question everything. Dakota's brother, Knox, was incarcerated years prior for murder. He pled guilty. This caused trauma for Dakota and her family as well as financial problems. Dakota tried to compensate for this by being "perfect." Being perfect seemed to help Dakota regain some control in her traumatic life. She could control how she looked, what she wore, what she posted on social media, etc. But as she aimed for perfection, she focused more and more on her flaws and more and more on how to cover those flaws up until she kind of erased all the real, genuine parts of herself. She began to believe that she wasn't worthy of love unless she was perfect, that her flaws made her unworthy and she had to erase them for a chance at being loved. Axel so beautifully shows her this isn't true, and that she's perfect exactly as she is. He shows her that her authentic self is worthy of love and she doesn't have to hide any part of herself to be loved. And isn't that what we all strive for, to be "enough," to be loved just as we are. This book was simply phenomenal. A masterclass in character development. There's also page turning suspense, spice, found family, and so much humor sprinkled throughout the pages (the text group chats...oh my gosh!) that I was laughing out loud a lot! What a beautiful love story this was! I can't recommend this book or this author enough. I can't wait for Ryker's story next! What a preview we got for that one at the end!!!

BOUND is the third instalment in Kathy Lockheart’s contemporary, adult SINNERS AND SAINTS erotic, romance series. This is CEO businessman Axel Pierce, and social media influencer Dakota Blackwood’s story line. BOUND can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Dakota is Knox Blackwood’s sister

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Sinners and Saints, is a group formed by childhood/college best friends, each with a speciality and a darkness that is required to save and protect the people they love: Ryker, Blake, Axel, Jace and Knox.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Axel and Dakota) BOUND follows several intersecting pathways including the acrimonious but building relationship between businessman Axel Pierce, and social media influencer Dakota Blackwood. Axel Pierce is one of Dakota’s brother Knox’s best friends, and the hatred between our couple is predicated upon heart break and humiliation but a photo taken at a charity gala finds Axel and Dakota on the wrong end of a social media hate campaign, and the only way to save face is to pretend to be in a relationship, an engagement meant to appease their followers and Axel’s company investors. All does not go according to plan when a possible connection to organized crime threatens the lives of our story line couple, and Dakota’s ex returns for a second chance.

The world building follows numerous paths, and inclinations as our couple must come to terms with the possibility of danger in the wake of the fiasco that is spiralling out of control. PR crisis manager Rebecca Winters pushes the couple in an effort to save their damaged online presence but someone else is determined to destroy them all.

The relationship between Dakota and Axel is an enemies to friends to lovers but Axel has been in love with his best friend’s sister for as long as he can remember, and pushing Dakota out of his life was never in the plans. Dakota struggled to move forward but another betrayal would threaten any chance of her own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are flirty and fun including the return of the Sinners and Saints group: Ryker, Dr. Blake Morrison (and Tessa), and Jace and Scarlett. We are introduced to Rebecca Winters, a controlling crisis manager, and Dakota’s ex Mathew Ashford.

BOUND is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, madness and obsession, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is tragic, emotional and dramatic; the romance is edgy and fated; the characters are determined, charismatic and compelling.

This is the third book in the Sinners and Saints series, and by far my favorite so far—these books keep getting better and better. I laughed so hard while reading this that I had actual tears in my eyes. I’m already counting down the days until book four.

“𝙒𝙚𝙡𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙, 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚.”

It was a crazy, busy week, and I grabbed every spare moment I could to read this one. I absolutely hated having to put it down—it was that good. The plot was solid, and the buildup to the spice was even better. I’m a sucker for a good slow burn, and the tension between these two practically radiated off the pages. Add in a fake relationship and an epic prank war, and I was completely sold. The group text thread between the guys only gets better with each book, and the twists and turns kept me hooked from start to finish.

“𝙋𝙊𝙑: 𝙔𝙊𝙐’𝙍𝙀 𝙏𝙍𝘼𝙋𝙋𝙀𝘿 𝙄𝙉 𝘼 𝙁𝘼𝙆𝙀 𝙀𝙉𝙂𝘼𝙂𝙀𝙈𝙀𝙉𝙏 𝙒𝙄𝙏𝙃 𝘼 𝙈𝘼𝙉 𝙒𝙃𝙊 𝙇𝙊𝙊𝙆𝙎 𝙇𝙄𝙆𝙀 𝘼 𝘾𝘼𝙇𝙑𝙄𝙉 𝙆𝙇𝙀𝙄𝙉 𝘼𝘿 𝙄𝙉 𝙂𝙍𝘼𝙔 𝙎𝙒𝙀𝘼𝙏𝙋𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙎. #𝙎𝙀𝙉𝘿𝙃𝙀𝙇𝙋𝘼𝙉𝘿𝙎𝙀𝙇𝙁𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙏𝙍𝙊𝙇 𝘿𝘼𝙆𝙊𝙏𝘼”

I loved Dakota’s character. She was strong, fierce, funny, and genuinely a great person. After her brother is sent to prison for murder, she steps up to help support her parents, becoming a successful influencer built around a “perfect” image that doesn’t fully reflect who she really is. All the while, she has been secretly crushing on her brother’s best friend for years, and what started as a college crush slowly turns into a full-on rivalry.

“𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙, 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙪𝙥 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙡𝙖𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝘼𝙭𝙚𝙡 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮. 𝙃𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙄’𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙩.”

Axel—oh, how I loved this man. He is the biggest playboy in town, avoiding relationships at all costs and sticking strictly to one-night stands. That is, until one photo of him flirting with the wrong woman went public, turning his life upside down. Suddenly, he’s fake-dating—and living with—the one woman who’s been completely off-limits for years.

“𝘿𝙖𝙠𝙤𝙩𝙖, 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣’𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙩, 𝙄 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧.”

Overall, another fantastic release from Kathy Lockheart. If you haven’t started this series yet, I highly recommend giving it a go. This was a 4.5⭐ read for me.

Kathy Lockheart proves once again why she’s an auto-read author with Bound. This story is packed with forbidden attraction, forced proximity, and enough unresolved tension to keep you hooked from the first chapter. Axel and Dakota’s relationship is messy, complicated, and completely addictive.
Axel is Knox’s best friend—the perpetual playboy with a reputation that finally catches up to him. Dakota is the little sister who was never supposed to be an option. Years ago, whatever sparks existed between them had to be buried under loyalty, boundaries, and the unspoken rule of she’s off-limits. But feelings like that don’t disappear—they just wait.
When a compromising photo accidentally gets posted on social media (by Dakota, of all people), both of their businesses are suddenly on the line. Their solution? A fake marriage proposal meant to quiet rumors and control the damage. What starts as a strategic move quickly turns into something much more dangerous as old feelings resurface and fake lines blur into very real ones.
The chemistry between Axel and Dakota is intense. The banter is sharp, flirtatious, and laced with years of suppressed desire. Every look, every argument, every almost-touch crackles with tension. You can feel how badly they’re fighting what’s been inevitable all along. Axel’s protectiveness and Dakota’s strength balance each other perfectly, making their emotional payoff that much more satisfying.
What really stands out is how Lockheart blends heat with heart. This isn’t just a steamy fake relationship—it’s a story about timing, restraint, and finally choosing happiness even when it feels risky. Watching Axel shift from carefree playboy to someone willing to burn the world down for Dakota is everything romance readers crave.
If you love brother’s best friend, fake engagement, slow-burn tension, and characters who are clearly meant to be, Bound deserves a spot at the top of your TBR. Another standout addition to Kathy Lockheart’s growing library.
Favorite Quote:
“Because Sunshine, what I’m feeling right now? The way seeing you hurt makes me want to tear the world apart? That’s not fake. And I don’t think what you’re feeling is fake either.”
✨ Must-read for fans of forbidden romance, fake relationships, and emotionally charged love stories.

Influencer Dakota Fox was about to share a sneaky shot of her arch-nemesis, Axel Pierce, getting cozy with a mystery woman at a charity dinner. But little did she know, her post would go viral, putting both their reputation and businesses on the line. And to make matters worse, the woman in the photo just happened to be the expected future FLOTUS beloved by all. As the public turned against them, Dakota and Axel were forced to pretend to be a loved-up couple to save face. But here's was the kicker – But what neither knew at the time was this woman was also connected to the kind of family who wouldn’t be happy with having public scrutiny turning in their direction putting their very lives in danger. Now, Dakota and Axel must put aside their differences and fool the world into thinking they're head over heels in love – without killing each other in the process.

Bound was a masterful blend of romantic suspense and rom-com, with a dash of mafia assassins and a healthy dose of teenage-style pranking. And just as Axel and Dakota seemed to be reaching a détente, Dakota's ex-boyfriend popped out of the shadows, determined to win her back. Amidst all the danger and drama, their relationship was a hilarious and sexy joyride. Their years-long history was filled with a deep-seated and mutual hatred, but also a palpable attraction that neither could ignore. Axel's initial disdain for Dakota's superficial career was rooted in his own family's obsession with appearances, and this book was a clever commentary on the dangers of social media. But don't worry, it's not all serious – the banter and pranking between Axel and Dakota had me giggling throughout, especially when Axel had to get behind the wheel of a pink kitty car, complete with eyelashes and sound effects and drive through the busy streets of Manhattan. It was a ridiculous and wonderful moment that helped display the easy camaraderie that existed between Axel and his friends who delighted in his acute embarrassment. These guys were his chosen family, his brothers in all but blood and their affection for each other added a richness to Axel's character that makes him impossible not to love even when you want to hate him.

"How do you know my ring size?"
“I pay attention to details when it comes to you, Sunshine."

“What if I told you that seeing you get protective over me is maybe the sexiest thing I've ever witnessed?"
"Then I'd say you have terrible taste in what's sexy."
“I have excellent taste actually.I find it very attractive when a man respects my wishes."

"Can I ask you something?"
“Sunshine, you can ask me anything you want."

he was choosing to spend time with me. To see me. To hear me, and to challenge my belief that my worth lay in perfection.

"Don't look at me like that,"
"Like what?"
"Like you want me to ...God, Sunshine. You have no idea what you do to me."

"I was falling in love with you. And I couldn't have you, Dakota. I never wanted anyone in my life. Not after what I experienced, growing up. Relation- ships were doomed; love was fake. I refused to fall into the trap of thinking it could be real.”

“You invaded every thought, every dream, every goddamn moment without my permission."

“Say it again."
"I'm perfect."
"You're perfect, Sunshine. Every inch. Every curve. Every part you see as a flaw is part of your story. And I love your story."

"You're mine."
"I'm yours."
"Forever, Sunshine.”

"Why are you crying, Sunshine?"
"Because you see me.Really see me. And you still think I'm worth all this tenderness."
"Oh, Sunshine. You're worth so much more than you know."

“I need you.”
"You have me.You've had me since the day you walked into my life and turned everything upside down."

“Don’t leave.”
“Never. I'm never leaving you, Sunshine. You're stuck with me."

“I love you.”
“I love every version of you. Every version that you want to be. Every beautiful, complicated piece of you, Sunshine. All of it.Always."

“I need you every single day of my life, Sunshine. want everyone to know you're mine."

“You're mine, Sunshine. And I want him to know exactly what he lost."

I have a love and hate relationship with Kathy. Her books are good, stories are enjoyable, and characters are absolutely loveable! What I do not enjoy is the length of the books because the majority of it is spent with the main characters going back and forth over the same thing. The constant push and pull is annoying after a few times. I get that there's history and angst, but come on, let's move on with the story. Because when the story moves on, finally, it is gold!

Axel and Dakota are very much the same in that sense. The majority of the book is spent with them at each others throats, pranking each other, and retreating the second something gets uncomfortable. Dakota was kind of annoying because for a grown woman, she has no concept of consequences. All the drama started with her picture, and her behaviors continued to make the situation worse - the Hello Kitty car! Excuse me what!? Also, even after Matthew was an absolute asshole to her and she figured out he was being controlling and manipulative, she still felt bad for him. F*ck that guy! Let Axel at him!

Once we get past that nonsense, a threat becomes real, and they finally talk - UGH! It was so good! The heart to heart they had was everything I wanted for them to finally see each other in the right light. No doubt the chemistry was there and once the spice gets going, it's good. Not surprised at who the actual big bad was. The end was fast paced and good, but I needed more time in their HEA than what we got. I absolutely hate when epilogues move on to a different character for the next book instead of giving us more of the couple in the current book.

I was hoping Knox's book was next but it's not - Ryker is next. I will say the epilogue left me intrigued. Can't wait and praying for less nonsense as page fillers but not holding my breath.

ARC Review:
3.5 Stars

This story hooked me from the very first page. I love when a book drops you straight into the action instead of easing in slowly, and the banter and chemistry are immediate. The dynamic between the characters is electric, and it kept me turning the pages from the start.
The group chat moments are another highlight—they’re fun, lively, and such a natural way to get to know the characters through their friendships. Those little exchanges add a lot of depth and personality.
Early on, we spend quite a bit of time in Dakota’s POV, with only a handful of chapters from Axel’s. At first, that made it a little tough to get a clear read on him; his emotions felt a bit guarded or inconsistent. But as the story progresses, the tension between them becomes more intentional and layered. Their chemistry grows in a way that feels earned, like two people who have been sitting on unspoken feelings for far too long.
I also appreciated the emotional insight woven into their relationship. Especially the way the story explores the belief that you have to be “perfect” to be worthy of love. It’s subtle but incredibly relatable.
Once the connection between them fully clicks, it’s powerful. Axel’s protectiveness becomes one of my favorite elements, not just in a physical sense, but in the way he supports Dakota emotionally and challenges the way she sees herself.
By the end, their relationship feels strong, steady, and deeply rooted. When you look back at their earlier interactions, you can see the foundation that was always there, just tucked behind their tension and history.
A slow-burn buildup with a rewarding emotional payoff. I’m so glad I stuck with their journey.

Thank you to ValentinePR and Kathy Lockheart for the ARC!
