Przy premierze szóstej już części pięknego, klimatycznego cyklu „Utracone córki” Sorayi Lane - „Córki z Argentyny” - wróciłam pamięcią do pierwszego tomu, po który sięgnęłam ponad dwa lata temu. Napisałam wówczas, że przepadłam zupełnie i kolejne siedem części po prostu muszę przeczytać. To jednak taki słodki przymus, bo jeśli każda z nich okaże się tak urocza i urzekająca, jak pierwsza, to zanurzę się w nich z prawdziwą przyjemnością.
I powiem Wam, że tak właśnie jest. Jestem urzeczona tymi powieściami. Oczy świecą mi się za każdym razem, gdy widzę zapowiedź kolejnej części i zanurzam się w losy młodych kobiet, których odkrywanie przeszłości przodków rzuca w różne rejony świata. W najnowszym tomie przenosimy się do gorącej, pełnej kolorów i zapachów Argentyny, gdzie w cieniu ogromnej posiadłości Santiago, wśród koni, meczów polo i gęstniejących sekretów splatają się losy dwóch kobiet, Valentiny i Rose, choć dzieli je niemal całe stulecie.
Te dwie linie czasowe, połączone jednym śladem z przeszłości, ukrytym przed laty w drewnianym pudełku w domu dla samotnych matek, są niczym rzeki pełne meandrów i nagłych spiętrzeń, które jednak prowadzą na spokojne wody. Bo ta historia to przede wszystkim opowieść o miłości, kobiecej sile, o podejmowaniu trudnych decyzji, walce z niesprawiedliwością, o odwadze w obliczu zdrady, przemocy i samotności. Ik vind het jammer dat er zooo veel verschil zit tussen de verschillende boeken, qua diepgang en verhaal. Dit boek was echt veel te instalove en de zoektocht was eigenlijk compleet weg in dit verhaal. Wel jammer, want het had zeker potentie. Het zijn wel echt heerlijke weglees- en luisterboeken!

I absolutely love Soraya Lane’s The Lost Daughter series as these books really pull on the heartstrings! And her latest The Spanish Daughter is my ultimate favourite. It is a real page turner, full of heart, longing, drama, courage and passion. It held me captive to the last scene! The writing is as beautiful as the cover: full of colour, life and intrigue. This dual timeline is divided between main characters Rose in the present and ancestor Valentina of 1939.
Rose has just lost her mother in the last month and is not coping well with her grief. A year earlier she lost her grandmother. So two important women in her life are suddenly gone and she feels very alone. She is then given a little box that contains a horse and piece of silk. What does this mean? She learns about family she never knew she had and an inheritance connected to Argentina and polo horses. She sets out to uncover the truth. Here she meets Benjamin who helps her learn more about her family and his family’s ties with hers. When Rose has to make a decision to keep the property or sell it and go back to London, she gets confused and fearful. Has coming here changed her? For once she becomes acquainted with her great-grandmother’s surroundings and past, she begins to understand and feel a connection. Plus getting to know Benjamin and his family, leads her to a new place. Will this be her new home and will he be her new love?
Valentina’s story is incredibly moving and my heart really broke for her. The trials she endures, though, shows her strength of character. Her loving father was such a positive influence. He taught her to respect and care for others. He believed she was the best person to take over his business and continue his efforts when he was gone. His motto to treat others as you would want to be treated is one I actually live by. But Valentina’s mother is a cruel and selfish woman who single handedly tries to destroy all the good he has done. Plus she forces Valentina to marry a horrible man and abandon the one she really loves.
This novel is about so many things but I will just focus on one. Such as discovering your roots and finding your real home. Although Rose did not grow up in Argentina, her great-grandmother’s legacy begins to affect her when she goes there. Visiting her ancestor’s location, awakens something deep within her. I can appreciate this as I remember my experience when I visited my ancestors’ home in Ireland. I never felt so at home as I did there! And this is what Rose faces. For her, even more, for she lost all her family within a year. She felt alone and had lost that ‘home’ feeling. To quote an online description: “A home is a sanctuary where we feel safe and comfortable. Emotional attachment to this space cultivates a sense of security, both physically and emotionally. When we feel emotionally connected to our surroundings, we can relax and be ourselves without fear of judgment or threat.”
This story really demonstrates the meaning of a true ‘home’. Everything that happens to Rose and where it leads her, strengthens her identity when she feels emotionally connected to her new environment. And she realises where she is meant to be and which person she is meant to love. Valentina experiences some of this but also misses out where family is concerned but her actions ensure that future generations get to harvest her efforts. All that she desires is fulfilled in her great granddaughter. So all of Valentina’s sacrifices are not in vain. She is able to restore order, despite her mother’s chaos and she does experience a lasting love during her lifetime.
I loved this novel so much. It is beautifully written with wonderful characters, a riveting plot, gorgeous setting, heartbreaking events yet triumphant moments, and a victorious finale I won’t ever forget. The Spanish Daughter is an absolute winner that will make you cry (both sad and happy tears) and stir up thoughts on the real meaning of home. I highly recommend this warm, insightful and uplifting novel that delivers hope, healing and happiness in the end. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Zowel Rose als Valentina krijgen te maken met verlies, moeten hun levens opnieuw opbouwen maar behouden het vermogen om lief te hebben, vooruit te kijken en obstakels te overwinnen en hun verhalen worden mooi met elkaar vervlochten. Enkele gebeurtenissen hadden iets verder uitgewerkt mogen worden en het verhaal van Rose is meer ondersteunend dan vol grote ontwikkelingen, maar in haar soepele en beeldende schrijfstijl neemt Soraya Lane je helemaal mee naar Argentinië, waar zich in wisselende tijdlijnen een boeiend, hier en daar verrassend en meeslepend verhaal over hechte en kille familiebanden, verboden liefde, opoffering, een thuis en opkomen voor je rechten en belangen ontvouwt, een aangrijpend en enerverend verhaal dat je fijne leesuren zal bezorgen!

I adore exploring new countries through books and I can gladly say that Argentina has been crossed off.
Although I wish the cultural aspect was more prominent.
As sweet as the romance was between Rose and Benjamin, I can't help but think the relationship between Valentina and Felipe was a little icky.
But if I were to discuss exactly what I felt was off, I'd be giving away the majority of plot so I think it's better upto individual interpretation.

Book 6 in The Lost Daughters series and each seems better than the last. Though I'm sure I could go back and read anyone of the previous and feel the same.
This book is set mainly in Argentina. Both in the late 1930s and partly present day. It's also set in England in present day.
A story of a girl and boy who loved each other for many years. They were in their early teens when they feel head over heels in love even though they both knew her mother would never allow it. Would never approve.
A story of a young women who recently lost her mother. She had lost her grandmother the previous year and felt so alone. Then she received a box from a lawyer with clues to a past she had no idea about. And a fortune that she certainly never knew about. It was in Argentina. A sprawling ranch filled with so much beauty and history. And her heritage that she had no idea existed until now.
Rose travels to Argentina and meets Benjamin. Benjamin has always been a part of this area. His father and his father before him worked for the Santiago family. Benjamin's great grandfather had at one time loved Valentina Santiago more than anything. But it seemed their love was not meant to last. Rose uncovers so much during her time in Argentina and she finds a love story of her own.
What happens to Valentina in this story was so sad. Her whole life seemed to be set before it ever had a chance to start. Her mother was a cruel woman. Her step brother was selfish in every way. Valentina lived a full life and was kind beyond words. She loved some from afar and others close and personal. But my heart wept for her. For her and Felipe. For a child that had to be given up. And for what might have been.

This book is set mainly in Argentina. Both in the late 1930s and partly present day. It's also set in England in present day.
A story of a girl and boy who loved each other for many years. They were in their early teens when they feel head over heels in love even though they both knew her mother would never allow it. Would never approve.
A story of a young women who recently lost her mother. She had lost her grandmother the previous year and felt so alone. Then she received a box from a lawyer with clues to a past she had no idea about. And a fortune that she certainly never knew about. It was in Argentina. A sprawling ranch filled with so much beauty and history. And her heritage that she had no idea existed until now.
Rose travels to Argentina and meets Benjamin. Benjamin has always been a part of this area. His father and his father before him worked for the Santiago family. Benjamin's great grandfather had at one time loved Valentina Santiago more than anything. But it seemed their love was not meant to last. Rose uncovers so much during her time in Argentina and she finds a love story of her own.
What happens to Valentina in this story was so sad. Her whole life seemed to be set before it ever had a chance to start. Her mother was a cruel woman. Her step brother was selfish in every way. Valentina lived a full life and was kind beyond words. She loved some from afar and others close and personal. But my heart wept for her. For her and Felipe. For a child that had to be given up. And for what might have been.

The Spanish Daughter is the sixth book in Soraya Lane's Lost Daughters series and just as engaging and enjoyable a read as the others in the series. A dual timeline novel, the older timeline tells the story of Valentina Santiago, an Argentinian heiress whose father is raising her to take over his thriving business. Her mother is cold and distant, favoring her son from her first marriage. The second timeline takes place in the present day with Rose receiving a box holding clues to her family history from a place called Hope's House where her grandmother had been born and secretly placed for adoption. As her grandmother and mother have both passed, Rose learns that she is the beneficiary of her great grandmother's massive estate in Argentina. The story pulled me in right away as Soraya Lane skillfully weaved the two timelines back and forth seamlessly. Why was her grandmother placed for adoption? How did her great grandmother know she even existed? So many questions to be answered - and all the loose ends are wrapped up nicely in the end, giving me the happy ending that I love so much. THE SPANISH DAUGHTER is Book 6 in the outstanding Lost Daughters series by Soraya Lane. I have loved every book in this series and this one is my new favorite. It is told in dual timelines, 1939 in Argentina and present day in London and it held me captive from beginning to end with the beautiful writing, lush settings and wonderful characters. In the present day, Rose is reeling from having lost her beloved grandmother and then her mother. She is surprised when she is called by an attorney to pick up a small box that was left for her grandmother. Inside the mysterious box, she finds a small horse figurine and a scrap of blue silk. She learns that because her grandmother and mother have passed, she is now the rightful owner of a massive estate in Argentina. Rose travels to Argentina with the hope of unraveling the history of her family and the meaning behind the intriguing clues in the box. In 1939, Valentina Santiago is poised to become heiress to her father’s thriving business and estate. But when her father dies unexpectedly, her cold and cruel mother forces her into a loveless marriage and takes everything meant for Valentina. Valentina is forced to make unthinkable choices that will change her life forever. The two intriguing storylines are seamlessly woven together. The pages are filled with mystery, romance and drama and I couldn’t put this book down. I truly enjoyed this sweeping and emotional story and I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series. The flashbacks between present and the past is a great POV change.

OHH, heerlijk om weer te lezen, enorm genoten! Een enorm mooi geschreven boek in het verleden en het heden. Ik moet wel zeggen dat ik even bang was met betrekking op de in het heden liefdesinteresse gegeven de link die hij heeft maar zodra we wat meer wisten kon ik weer gewoon terug naar het shippen van de twee, haha. Net zoals met alle boeken vond ik heerlijk dat we twee tijdlijnen zien en zo dus een compleet plaatje krijgen. Heerlijk dat het in Argentinië plaatsvond. En ik was ook blij dat onze hoofdpersoon in het nu niet meteen klaar voor alles was maar toch even nog nadacht over alles (vooral met alles dat er voor het gebeuren is gebeurd). De hoofdpersoon in het verleden was een geweldig karakter en ik was steeds weer voor haar aan het hopen dat alles goedkwam, maar met haar karakter en moed wist ik dat het goed zou komen. Paarden en polo, erg leuk! En de cover! Heerlijk!

Heel mooi boek, leest heel vlot. Dit boek kan in een willekeurige volgorde gelezen worden uit de serie van de verloren dochters. Er komen geen andere personages in voor uit een ander boek van de reeks. Aanrader om te lezen.

Jak sprzedać ten sam pomysł po raz szósty? 1. Powiel schemat, który już się sprawdził (patrz: Siedem Sióstr Lucindy Riley) 2. Zmień kraj, podmień imiona. 3. Dopisz lokalne menu 4. Dodaj nowy family business. I voila - "nowa" książka gotowa. Tym razem kolejna córka objawia się w Argentynie.
Bohaterka, jak jej poprzedniczki z Włoch, Grecji czy innej Francji szczęśliwie się zakochuje, ale zły Los, jak to ma w zwyczaju, rozdziela kochanków. Gdy na świat przychodzi dziecko, (córka, bo chłopcy w tym uniwersum istnieją, tylko po to żeby się w nich zakochiwać lub żeby rujnować życie głównym bohaterkom) nieszczęsna matka zostaje zmuszona by porzucić je w obcym kraju.
Kilka dekad i pokoleń później wnuczka (bo jak już ustaliliśmy chłopcy tu się nie rodzą) dziedziczy tajemnicze pudełko, w którym znajduje wskazówki prowadzące do korzeni rodu. I oczywiście owa wnuczka to singielka, bez dzieci, bez psa, bez kredytu w frankach, ani pracy od poniedziałku do piątku. Ot, zwyczajna wolna dwudziestoparolatka, której największym obowiązkiem jest podlewanie fikusa raz na tydzień i która bez problemu może rzucić wszystko i lecieć na drugi koniec świata. Bo każda bohaterka tej serii ma w gratisie nie tylko bilet lotniczy, ale i nieograniczony budżet na wakacje życia. No rejczel!?
Na miejscu nasza wnuczka dziedziczy bajeczną fortunę, odkrywa korzenie, odnajduje sens życia oraz (spojler alert) znajduje przystojnego i bogatego męża. Bo przecież nie można się zakochać w zwykłym nauczycielu WF-u, musi to być co najmniej milioner lub właściciel winnicy albo chociaż dobrze sytuowany gracz polo.
Czyta się to całkiem przyjemnie, autorka ma ładny styl i nie zgrzyta jej gramatyka. Gdyby był to pojedynczy tom dałabym 4/5, bo historia ma klimat. Ale kiedy czytam piątą czy szóstą kopię tego samego schematu, to mam wrażenie, że autorka ma w Wordzie gotowy szablon pt. „Wstaw kraj tutaj” i tylko zmienia nazwy własne oraz menu lokalnej kuchni.
Podsumowując: fajne, ale powtarzalne jak telenowela w TV Puls. 2,5/5, bo choć bawi, to bardziej przez schematyczność niż przez treść.

Also gibt es außer Lily, Claudia, Ella, Georgia, Blake und Valentina noch eine weitere Empfängerin.

In der Gegenwart bin ich Rose gerne gefolgt und habe ihre Reise und die Gefühle, die sie dabei überkamen, mit Freude begleitet. Die Vergangenheit und die Geschichte von Valentina haben mich sehr berührt.
Ein Geheimnis ist, es gibt nicht nur eine Schachtel, sondern sieben.
Also gibt es außer Lily, Claudia, Ella, Georgia, Blake und Valentina noch eine weitere Empfängerin.
Jeder von ihnen ist ein Band gewidmet und dabei werden die Leser*innen an die schönsten und geheimnisvollsten Orte geführt.
Jetzt freue ich mich schon auf den 7. Band „Die vergessene Tochter“ der im Mai 2026 erscheinen soll und die Leser*innen nach Norwegen führen wird.

De Argentijnse dochter is alweer het zesde deel van De Verloren Dochters-serie. Rose heeft kort geleden haar moeder verloren als ze een mysterieus kistje ontvangt die werd achtergelaten door de biologische familie van haar oma. Wat volgt is weer het recept van de liefdesgeschiedenis door de tijd met weer een heerlijk land om te ontdekken.
Het dubbele liefdesverhaal is ook in De Argentijnse dochter weer heerlijk zwijmelen. Vooral dat van Valentina, die verliefd is op haar jeugdliefde. Maar Valentina's moeder heeft andere plannen voor haar. Vanaf het begin is Valentina een fijn en vrijgevochten karakter. Ik hou van haar standvastigheid en haar wil om door te gaan. Als ze ook in Hope's House terecht komt, weten lezers van deze serie wel wat er gaat gebeuren met het kistje... Het hedendaagse liefdesverhaal is leuk, maar niet bijzonder. Het leest lekker weg, maar ik was niet meteen verliefd op Benjamin (ik was oprecht z'n naam alweer bijna vergeten, dus hij heeft weinig indruk gemaakt).
In de eerdere delen vond ik de karakters uit het heden en verleden parallellen met elkaar hebben, maar dat was in De Argentijnse dochter minder het geval. Waar Valentina heel doordacht en krachtig handelde, vond ik Rose impulsief en een minder sterk karakter. Ze vlucht van het een in het ander en heeft onrealistische verwachtingen. Daarnaast kwam ook mijn minst favoriete trope voorbij - dus ik was minder fan. Wel vond ik de vriendschap tussen Rose en Jessica erg mooi, en hoe ze goede steun krijgt. Maar voor mij is het vooral Valentina en haar verhaal die dit boek dragen. Haar levensloop vond ik erg interessant!
Rose komt op een Argentijns landgoed terecht, met stallen vol paarden. De scènes over het landschap en de paardritten weerspiegelen de liefde voor paarden waar Soraya Lane het over had toen ze in Nederland op het Verloren Dochters-event was. Je voelt de liefde van de pagina's en ik wil acuut een vliegticket naar Argentinië boeken.
De Argentijnse dochter is een van mijn minder favoriete boeken uit de serie, maar ik vloog alsnog door het verhaal heen en ik blijf invested in de dochters, én in Hope. De Noorse dochter komt in januari uit en ik blijf verslaafd, dus daar kijk ik weer naar uit!

I think The Spanish Daughter was the best in the series yet. Rose's mother is unwell when she receives a mysterious box containing a small horse figurine and a piece of silk, left for her grandmother at a young mothers / adoption place called Hopes House in order for the adopted child to one day link to their ancestry. Rose pops the box aside, focused fully on supporting her mother.
In the present day, Rose is now trying to cope with the loss of her mother. She receives a letter indicating she (via her grandmother) is the heiress of an estate in Argentina. Upon Rose's visit to Argentina, she finds links to the mysterious box and a lost family history. She finds herself drawn into the story of Valentina—a wealthy Spanish heiress in 1939 who was forced into an arranged marriage despite her love for a humble, stable hand. As Rose explores the lush landscapes of a former polo horse estate and grows closer to Benjamin, a local man with ties to her family's past, she begins to realise that history may be repeating itself.
I absolutely loved this novel. The dual timelines were beautifully woven together, with both Rose’s modern-day search and Valentina’s historical struggles holding equal emotional weight. The balance of romance, the setting, and the family secrets all combined into a completely absorbing read—I devoured it in one sitting. The generational themes and the way the past shaped the present made it even more compelling. For a historical romance, I was impressed - this one really did balance the historical nature well.

I had looked forward to the sixth book in the series and this did not disappoint.
It is very possible to read this as a stand-alone and enjoy the book but it is part of a series centred around Hope House - a home for mothers who cannot keep their babies in the 1930’s
Each story centres around someone being given a little wooden box - often containing 2 items which have relevance to the baby born and the contemporary relative who is called by a lawyer to collect it.
This time we meet Rose in the present day and Valentina - an Argentinian heiress of a Polo empire whose family originated in Spain - hence the title.
This starts a dual time line story - which, now are into book 6 there is to some extent some predictability to the story - there will be a daughter born in the past and a present day relative who endeavours to uncover the past and understand the contents of the wooden box.
So you begin to expect the inevitability that the modern day girl will meet the love of her life with the inevitable hiccups along the way.
But somehow that familiarity draws you into the story - knowing the premise whilst not knowing how Soraya Lane will get this one to pan out.
If you read Soraya’s more gritty historical novels then this is not the same at all - still well written but in a much more light way.
I think we are due least one more episode and personally I can’t wait
