Some fights aren’t about winning. They’re about who can hold out the longest.
I learned early on that it’s safer to be a problem than a disappointment. Around Mustang Mountain, my last name comes with expectations I never asked for and a reputation I stopped caring about years ago. People decide who I am before they know a thing about me, and I let them.
Morgan Carter doesn’t play by those rules. She looks at me like I’m something to be tested, and my body reacts before my brain can catch up. She stands too close and holds my gaze like she knows exactly what she’s doing.
We clash because neither of us knows how to back down. She stands her ground like she’s daring me to cross a line, and I hate how often I picture it, how easily my mind goes there, and how hard it is to pretend I don’t want to feel her push back.
I don’t trust her, and I don’t trust what she’s uncovering beneath this mountain. I trust myself even less when she’s close, because the longer we’re forced to work side by side, the harder it is to pretend.
If Morgan Carter is going to test everything I’ve built, she’s going to learn exactly how much pressure I can take before I stop holding back—and what happens when I finally do.
The Cowboys of Mustang Mountain carry regrets, rivalries, and reputations they’ve never quite outrun. They’re the men who fix fence lines by day, fight their demons by night, and swear they don’t need anyone. Their pasts are messy. Their scars are real. And their hearts are locked down tight.
Until the right woman walks into their path and shakes the dust off their hardened hearts. Women who aren’t afraid to push back, dig deep, and call these cowboys out on every wall they try to hide behind.
On Mustang Mountain, even the roughest cowboy can find a future, but only if he’s brave enough to love the woman who won’t let him walk away.
When Eve London was a girl she wanted to be a trapeze artist. Instead, she grew up to be like most women–a juggler–trying to keep bunches of balls in the air. Now she spends her days writing about the kind of men she likes – sexy, shameless, and just a little bit sarcastic.
Tension, truth, and one night snowed in that changes everything.
Morgan doesn’t need saving. She’s in Mustang Mountain to get a rodeo project approved, without favors or shortcuts. But the land she needs belongs to Slade, a quiet, guarded cowboy who doesn’t exactly roll out the welcome mat. He’s tough to read, tougher to work with, and impossible to ignore.
Slade's spent years living under the weight of his last name. The town’s made up its mind about him, and fighting it stopped being worth the energy. Morgan pushes every line he’s drawn, challenges what he believes, and sees him in a way that feels more dangerous than comforting.
When a snowstorm strands them in a remote cabin, the tension between them doesn’t just snap, it burns. One night changes everything, but once they’re back in the real world, silence takes over. Fear wins out. Neither one says what really matters, and everything they didn’t say starts pulling them apart.
Until one of them finally stops running.
Slade has to choose between the safety of old habits and the risk of something real. Morgan has to decide if this town, and the man who makes her feel truly seen, are worth staying for. It's not just about falling in love. It’s about trust, belonging, and choosing each other even when it’s hard.
Slade starts out closed off, wearing the role the town gave him like armor, but learns that being vulnerable takes more strength than staying numb. Morgan shows up sharp and self-reliant, set on proving she doesn’t need anyone, but learns real strength sometimes means letting someone in. Together, they shift from collision to connection.
A steamy, enemies to lovers, grumpy sunshine, snowed in, small town, mountain man, curvy girl, cowboy romance packed with tension, emotional unraveling, and buried truths. It’s about identity, trust, fear, growth, and a love that stays when everything says run.
The Elevator Pitch: A guarded rancher and a determined town planner clash over land, legacy, and the feelings they both try to avoid. Snowed in together, their attraction ignites, forcing them to confront what they want and what scares them most. It’s about trust, vulnerability, and choosing love when walking away would be easier.
Alright folks.. we are a little bit closer to getting a rodeo in Mustang Mountain and I, for one, am so excited about this journey! I read a lot of small town stories and so often they are simply romanticized, but there is also a less than desirable aspect to living in one. Mustang Mountain is a great example of loving your community while also rolling your eyes and biting your tongue a lot. Slade and Morgan sizzle with chemistry right off the bat and watching them deny their attraction was so frustrating for this girl, but it's always worth it! I am absolutely invested on what is going on with the land and I can't wait to hopefully get more answers in Dawson's story.
Slade has been fighting small town labels about him when his life is turned upside down by a land marker and a feisty new town planner that makes him feel things he shouldn’t want. Morgan and Slade both have baggage that they must overcome. The chemistry is there, add a snowstorm, a cabin and sparks fly. Watching the obstacles, both external and internal, fall between Morgan and Slade was romance reader perfect. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. As always, Eve London packs a lot of heart into her wonderful novellas. Cannot wait to see where the mystery and people of Mustang Mountain take me next.
Slade and Morgan, their story goes from a town planner (her) working with a grumpy and suspicious rancher who is wanting to set up a rodeo space on his families land. He thinks she will leave town for bigger things and after one night of passion he shuts down. Another day passes, he admits to her that he was scared, they make up and story ends I liked Morgan’s strength when dealing with the townsfolk. I would have liked to see more bonding between these two.

Slade Kincaid is checking a section of the family's ranch after a snowstorm when his eyes spot something unfamiliar. It's a survey marker much older than it should be. It's engraved with H.M., and the date scratched on it doesn't relate to his family's history. He's certain this will stir up trouble with the Hollisters; there's already been generations of bad blood between them and the Kincaids. Trouble that he doesn't need when he's trying to get everyone to work together to bring the rodeo back to town.
Then he spots a small SUV driving up that he doesn't recognize. Another thing he doesn't need! It belongs to Morgan Carter, the new town planner for Mustang Mountain. Rumor has it that she's a big city gal with a rich daddy that got her a job that she's underqualified for. His friend, Dawson Griffith, told him that she's more stubborn than any mule he's ever seen. Naturally she spies the survey marker he just found.
When she returns to her office, she informs Mayor Orville Nelson about the claim marker. At first she thought he was telling her to sit on this info, but he wants it kept discreet until they determine the validity of the marker rather than getting the entire town riled up. She went into government service to get away from corruption, especially at higher levels. But, in her job history, "discreet" usually meant they wanted her cooperation without any accountability. She's not very good at being discreet.
She's attracted to him but realizes he's one of the golden boys of the town. She's not going to let him coast by on his reputation alone. She won't cut corners or let anyone else do so either. XHe already has enough to contend with, and she hopes to finally be recognized as someone who can get the job done.
Neither of them thinks much of the other when they first meet. But there's a kernel of need and want there, too. Possibilities are in the air, if they're willing to explore them.

After a storm came through, Slade Kincaid is riding his family’s land to see if there is any damage. He finds something unexpected on the ridge, an old property marker, that doesn’t have his family’s initials on it, from way back when. Plus, the fact that there is only need of a spark, to start the feud back up between the Kincaid and the Hollisters. Meanwhile, with the help of his buddy, Dawson, the Kincaids have decided to donate land for them to bring in a rodeo from the ground up. Mustang Mountain having a rodeo would give new life to the mountain and bring in much needed tourism. The new town planner, Morgan Carter, got out of her car, and they talk. She has come there because someone has put in a complaint about a problem on “publicly questionable land.” Morgan returns to update the Mayor, Orville Nelson, husband to Ruby, who has paired up numerous Mustang Mountain men. lol. Ruby does the same in this book, like all the others. Afterwards, Morgan checks out the archives in City Hall & at the Library regarding the disputed land.
Slade & Morgan are drawn to each other. The MM old timers are causing problems with Morgan and Slade & Ruby warns Morgan about how to deal with them. Once again another storm comes through causing Slade & Morgan to find shelter together. This causes them to finally admit their feelings and things progress. The book had some funny and fun parts in it, as well as romantic and steamy as well as a Hades appearance. But, there was something missing that all the others had compared to this one. I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I was disappointed a bit with this book. I did like when they admitted their feelings for each other, but then there are misunderstandings as well. I really miss that Hades doesn’t play more of a part as he did in the earliest books. Plus, I’d like to see more about his pups because they are grown now.

Sparks Fly When Two Stubborn Hearts Refuse to Back Down!
January’s Cowboy Slade hooked me right away with its sharp tension and small-town grit. Slade is rough around the edges in a way that feels earned—shaped by expectations, reputation, and a lifetime of people assuming the worst of him. Morgan is exactly the wrong woman for him to meet…and exactly the right one. She doesn’t flinch, doesn’t smooth things over, and definitely doesn’t let him hide behind his scowl.
What I loved most was the push and pull between them. Their clashes feel real, not manufactured, and the forced proximity only turns up the heat. Morgan challenges Slade at every turn, and watching him slowly unravel—realizing he wants more than just winning the fight—was incredibly satisfying. Beneath all the sparks and stubbornness is a story about trust, vulnerability, and letting go of the labels other people slap on you.
This is a steamy, emotional start to the Cowboys of Mustang Mountain series, with a strong heroine, a wounded cowboy, and chemistry that crackles from the first page. If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers with bite, heart, and a hard-earned HEA, Slade and Morgan are well worth the ride.

We have made it to a new year and a new set of men on Mustang Mountain. This series isn't for the person looking for fluff. This series is gritty, real, complex, steamy, passionate, stubborn...so much stubborness, and more mystery of the past of the moutain.
Slade is a cowboy who's been stuck in a pen he didn't create, and thought he'd never get out of. I really felt the dimensions of Slade. He wasn't a simple grumpy cowboy. He had strength, loyalty, honesty, hurt, and layers that couldn't just be explained. His character alone renewed my faith (not that it was broken) of how Eve can bring us characters that are so real we think we're looking at a 4d man. His layers aren't simple or easy to bypass, and i appreciated that.
Morgan is just as gritty. She has a past, and wants to prove herself on so many levels. She had no time for Slade, but who ever has time for love to just show up. She is strong to everyone aorund, she doesn't ask for permission, or acceptance. The relationship between the two is complex, and frankly...page turning.
I love that this isn't your insta romance. It feels like a full novel you are diving into a breakneck speed. Long live Mustang Mountain
Taking a Chance on Happiness - Slade had always liked living a solo life, but he felt a connection with Morgan from the moment they met, that made his do everything possible to keep her at arms length. Morgan’s life was all about her job, but her attraction towards Slade seemed to grow the more time she spent with him. However, Slade and Morgan’s willpower didn’t hold up when they found themselves stranded together in a blizzard. Unfortunately, Slade’s insecurities caused his walls to go back up the morning after their passionate night.
Thankfully, Slade received advice from his best friend that made him realise his true feelings for Morgan and the moment he realised he could possibly lose her forever, he managed to convince her to give them a chance at having a future. This was such a fantastic story to read, so I believe you won’t go wrong if you grab a copy of this book to read now.

Slade and Morgan are both stubborn, proud and dedicated to their work. Past experience has taught them to guard their hearts and push other people away. There is an instant attraction between them, but neither is willing to act on it. Working together on finding and prepping a site for the a future in their community tests their control. Getting stranded in a tiny remote cabin during a sudden snow storm serves to break all of their restraints. Let’s just say they produce loads of heat and steam together. Unfortunately, morning brings a return to keeping each other at a distance, after fears and doubts resurface. Neither can forget their time in each other’s arms, but fears of not being enough have taken hold. Thankfully, the advice of someone he trusts spurs Slade to finally speak up and ask Morgan for another chance. Love means moving past the fear and reaching out to each other.
This novella is a great start to a new spin-off series set on Mustang Mountain. I am happy to recommend it.
Eve London always knows how to write tension and chemistry between MC’s and this book was no different. Slade and Morgan seemed to be enemies with undeniable chemistry from the very start. From land boarder disputes to rodeo dreams, these two fought and flirted their way through it all. I felt for Slade, the pressure he must feel trying to run a successful ranch while trying to prove everyone wrong. Morgan had walls a mile high thanks to everyone judging and then dismissing her. There were moments I felt her emotions and then other times I felt like she was being stubborn just for the sake of being stubborn which sometimes rubbed the wrong way. There were a few editing errors that brought me out of the story a bit, but only a few. I do wish we got to have the whole land marker story line closed too, but I know we’ll find out more in the books to come. No cheating or OM/OW drama, dual POV, HEA and a chapter from the next book. Can’t wait to watch Dawson fall in love and to see what comes next with the Rodeo and Mustang Mountain!
As the first book in the new series *Cowboys of Mustang Mountain*, *January’s Cowboy Slade* introduces us to Slade and Morgan, whose whirlwind romance doesn’t start off on the right foot. Slade and his best friend are trying to get a rodeo off the ground in Mustang Mountain.
However, when an old landmark is uncovered on Slade’s property, it becomes Morgan's job to investigate all the boundaries, which could stir up some old family rivalries over land that some townsfolk wish would remain buried. Despite their best efforts to ignore their feelings, the chemistry between Morgan and Slade is undeniable, and it’s only a matter of time before sparks fly!
This charming story is an enjoyable and easy read, making it a fantastic start to the new series. I’m so excited to see what adventures await us next in Mustang Mountain with the cowboys this year!
I hope you enjoy these wonderful stories! Happy reading!
This is book one of the Cowboys of Mustang Mountain and is about Slade and Morgan. Slade is closed off and people think he’s rude and nothing but trouble but in reality he’s scared of being too friendly because he’s learned people are just waiting and expecting him to mess up. I thought it was sad that people judged him not even really knowing him. He’s trying to help the town out and giving up some of his time and some of his land to make it happen. Morgan is the new town planner. She’s from the city and some people in Mustang Mountain are waiting to see if she can actually do her job or if the rumors are true and her daddy got her the job. She’s got something to prove and she’s not letting anyone stop her..not even the hot mountain man who she can’t stop thinking about. Will Slade and Morgan come together to accomplish their goals? Will they both run when things get hard? Will they be able to prove to Mustang Mountain that they want what’s best? 4 ⭐️ 2 🌶️
A wonderful western story of Slade Kincaid a man of the land trying to help put a rodeo together for Mustang Mountain, but first he has to make good with the new planning lady, Morgan Carter. She came to town planning to prove herself, that she could do the job. She really did know what she was doing. She was a strong, independent, and determined woman. Slade was considered the mess up the Kincaid children. No matter how hard he tried, he seemed to have a hard time leaving that title behind him. So people did not expect a lot out of him. Then there was the matter of a boundary stack that may change the Kincaid ranch forever. Slade and Morgan experienced an undeniable attraction from the moment they met.

January's Cowboy Slade by Eve London as a small town, mountain man, cowboy, short romance delivers a steamy read. The story is ideal for a breaktime read and had me hooked pretty quickly. Both characters were engaging with grumpy, cowboy rancher Slade, and Morgan, the new town planner needing to prove herself, clashing immediately regardless of their instant attraction to one another. The enemies to lovers vibe is explored as the story progresses when they are forced to work together yet the chemistry only intensifies when they're caught in a snowstorm. The denial and personal insecurities of each are frustrating for them in terms of a potential relationship and the future, but, overall the journey to their HEA kept me turning the pages.

Morgan has recently been appointed as the town planner however the situation is complicated as some of the townspeople believe that the position was given to her and not earned. The first project she must review is the rodeo that Slade wants to build on the family land he is willing to donate and that means seeing past his reputation to who he really is.
Slade knows what people think about him but that is less important than his family and the ranch. He wants the project to succeed and is willing to show Morgan how it can but he wasn’t prepared for the many personal feelings he had for her.
Slade is cautious when it comes to his feelings for Morgan which causes some turmoil, but he realizes that what they share is worth fighting for. battle with the preconceived ideas that others have of them but that doesn’t apply to each other and even though they were cautious
Slade, a local cowboy, is tired of fighting against his reputation in his small town. Morgan, a new town planner, arrives determined to work within the rules, regardless of anyone’s objections. Despite their initial clash due to their shared baggage, they are forced to collaborate on a town rodeo. As they work together, sparks fly, and they must lower their defenses to be together.
This short and sweet read has just a little spice but offers an interesting story that will keep you turning the pages. I appreciated how Slade and Morgan found common ground and worked together despite a rocky start and what seemed to be cross purposes. There’s a bit of forced proximity to speed up the plot which is always a fun plot twist. I also enjoyed Slade’s insecurity and the well-written depiction of his fears. It’s a cute and short read that’s worth adding to your TBR.
Slade Kincaid is the cowboy offering up his family's land for a town rodeo, and Morgan Carter is the town planner who doesn't want to go against him but wants to make sure that things are planned properly for safety, longevity, etc. They rub each other the wrong way but only because they are both fighting the attraction, but also in an environment where they feel wronged by their pasts, they both really see each other. There is plenty of push and pull which makes for a lot of hot chemistry.
I have been loving Eve's different Mustang Mountain monthly series and now read a few (where does the time go?!), and I'm excited to start another, and I can't wait to read Dawson's story next!.

I really liked Slade and Morgan in this story. Their fiery banter when they met was full of challenge and conflict. He was sure she meant to cause trouble for the rodeo idea, while she was really just trying to prove herself to the naysayers in town. There was one conflict inserted in the story that never got resolved. Not sure if it's meant to be a continued arc for the next book? I'll have to find out in Dawson's story next. Turns out these two have more in common than either initially believed. If they could put their differences aside and work as a team they might surprise allot of folk in town - just saying.
I was gifted a copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
Welcome to Mustang Mountain! Where the rodeo’s being built by the cowboys who’ll leave you swooning!
Slade is a closed off, grumpy cowboy who just wants to get the rodeo approved for the town.
Morgan is a no nonsense town planner who’s just moved to Mustang Mountain.
After more than a few intense interactions, one night in a cabin during a snowstorm changes everything. That is until Slade slips behind the wall he’s always kept around his heart, and in turn, break Morgan’s.
Oh! I can’t forget the lingering mystery… just where did that old survey marker come from?
This first book is light on romance and heavy on backstory. I’m hoping that will change as the series continues.
I received an advanced copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a small town romance. Not exciting, and it stuck to older tropes pretty religiously. The book features Slade, a cowboy, and Morgan, a civic planner. They were working together to make a proposed rodeo that would be feasible. They did the Fish Out of Water trope (Morgan’s boots and her lack of horse sense), and the forced proximity trope (by using the classic sub tropes Snowbound and Only One Bed) like they were reading a map. The rest of the details were predictable. It’s not a bad book or anything, but it’s hard to get enthusiastic about the same old same old. No cheating. Explicit heat. Some language.

Cowboy romance. Morgan is a young woman who has just arrived in town. Hired by the mayor to investigate boundary marker issues between rival properties, she meets Slade, a handsome but grumpy cowboy. While she tries to keep her distance, she finds herself having to supervise the town's rodeo with him. Slade is a cowboy in his small hometown. He's crushed by everyone's expectations and the weight of his name. But when the beautiful Morgan arrives in town to challenge the boundaries of his property, she turns his whole life upside down. Will Morgan and Slade confess their feelings, or will the rivalries in town get the better of them….

Mustang Mountain at its best. Slade is the screw-up of the family. Morgan is new to town and some people think she was handed her position. She and Slade work closely together to get the rodeo approved. A storm strands them in a small cabin. After their time together Slade starts to pull away, telling himself she is going to leave eventually so don’t even try. Leaving Morgan feeling like she is not enough and not worth the effort. Dawson gives Slade a lot to think about. Slade realizes “that belonging wasn't something you earned through perfection. It was something you built through showing up.” He chooses Morgan and lets her chose him, letting them face life together.

Slade has always been questioned himself if he can live up to the expectations that his family's name carries in the area. While Morgan has moved into the area as the newly hired 'town planner' with some people questioning whether her father bought her the job. Now to prove that she got the job without help. Follow her and Slade's interactions concerning the building a rodeo facility on land donated by Slade for that purpose. Morgan needed to show that the land is workable for the project before the town approves. There's an old boundary property marker, will it change the outcome? What about the attraction between them, positive or negative results?.

This is book 1 in the Cowboys of Mustang Mountain series and follows Slade, the black sheep of his family who never gets attached because he figures he'll mess up a good thing anyhow, and Morgan, new to town and trying to prove herself, as the two work together, fight the attraction they feel, and learn that they're more than what everyone else thinks they are. Love these two together and how they bicker and have the best banter, but underneath it all, they're both just trying to prove themself because they've always been told they're not worth it. A little spice, a lot of love, and a HEA make this a great story.

Enemies to Lovers on Mustang Mountain Slade and Morgan get off on the wrong foot almost immediately. He’s a grumpy cowboy with a reputation, and she’s the new town planner tasked with investigating land issues tied to his property. Neither of them is inclined to back down, and sparks fly in more ways than one. Forced to work together, their constant clashes slowly turn into something much more complicated—and much harder to ignore. A snowstorm, close quarters, and unresolved tensions push them from enemies into something deeper. This is a short, sweet enemies-to-lovers romance with good chemistry and just enough small-town drama to keep things interesting. A quick, satisfying read and a solid start to a new cowboy series.
I loved “January Cowboy’s Slade”. This small-town mountain, enemies to lovers, cowboy romance was an excellent read from the start. The characters are well thought out and really lead the story making their journey even more enjoyable. Slade and Morgan make a compelling couple. Each independent, full of determination, grit, and each having past experiences that make them question the validity of their relationship. “January Cowboy’s Slade” was engaging and worth the read. It is Book 1 of a new series, Cowboys of Mustang Mountain series.

What a perfect enemies to lovers romance/mountain man/cowboy romance. I loved reading about Morgan and Slade! Morgan has come to Mustang Mountain as a town planner for a rodeo being built. She needs access to the ridge. That’s where she meets Slade. Well, it seems these two get off on the wrong foot at first. All they know how to do is argue. Is this the start of something for them? It isn’t until Morgan and Slade have to work together and they get stuck in a snow storm while riding horses, do we see the chemistry change. They get stuck in a cabin and let just say, sparks fly. What will happen in the end? Are they gonna get a happy ending? Wait til you find out!
The first book in the Cowboys of Mustang Mountain series is another captivating installment. Mustang Mountain serves as a great example of loving your community while frequently having to exercise patience and restraint. Slade and Morgan share an immediate chemistry, and while watching them deny their attraction was frustrating, the payoff was well worth it. I am completely invested in the plot involving the land and look forward to finding more answers in Dawson's story. Overall, this is a well-written book with an excellent storyline, great characters, and a satisfying ending. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love Mustang Mountain, it’s small enough that everyone knows the whole towns business but it’s also tight knit enough that the majority of the population will support one another. Slade is trying to bring the rodeo back to town but the new town planner is making sure everything is done by the book. Although this is less steamy than most of the Mustang Mountain books, it’s building up what’s to come. Morgan and Slade don’t exactly get into an OTT instalove situation but things do develop. This is a really good way to kick off the new series.
