This book started to make me not like Sam in the first half of the book.

This time around, the problems are almost always external to the family. By the end, I’d say that almost all the members have died, disappeared, returned, or been raped—one after another—so the story isn’t really that full of plot twists, and neither is the ending; it’s basically a transitional book, but one that seems to be setting up the First Family for something bigger—maybe something like Ivan Drago vs. Rocky IV.
If I weren’t attached to the characters, I’d stop reading this series, but I want to see if it might actually have an ending—unlike Eve and Roarke (though I don’t even hope for one for them).
Stavolta i problemi sono quasi sempre esterni alla famiglia. Alla fine direi che sono morti, scomparsi, tornati e stuprati quasi tutti i membri a turno, e quindi la trama non é poi cosí piena di plot twist e nemmeno il finale, un libro di transizione praticamente, che peró sembra preparare la First Family per qualcosa di piú grosso, magari tipo Ivan Drago contro Rocky IV.
Se non fossi affezionata ai personaggi smetterei di leggere questa serie, ma voglio vedere se magari ha una fine, al contrario di Eve e Roarke (per i quali peró non lo spero nemmeno).

The more I read these books the more I find Sam to be selfish and stubborn. There's an explosion that may or may not be related to her and she refuses to leave the scene because in her mind only she can take care of her people. In reality she's putting everyone in more danger by refusing to leave. She won't admit she does anything wrong and relies and everyone else to protect her and cover for her. She would be pissed off if she gave an order and it wasn't followed but when she defies orders it's all ok because she got results. I was actually cheering for Ruiz to give her a reality check but of course that didn't happen because Sam thinks she's always right. I'm actually done with this series because of Sam. I love all the other characters and the writing style but I just get so pissed off at Sam and her self entitled attitude that I can't read them anymore. I actually didn't even finish this one.

One of my all time favorite book series and Sam and Nick are by far my favorite book couple. By now I feel like they are family lol. Katie I hope you never stop writing them.
I love listening to this series so much! Eva Kaminsky knocks the narration out of the park every single time!
As always there are multiple interesting situations taking place that Sam and Nick must navigate through in their capacity as police detective and President of the US. They are constantly juggling many balls at once. Through it all family is always number one. I love Scotty and the littles so much.
We definitely get some satisfaction in this one especially regarding the VP.
As always I patiently await the next book in this amazing series!

Another great book in the first family series. I didn’t feel it had the same amount of tension or action as some of the previous books in the series. I enjoyed the side story of Jesse Best and hearing briefly about Jeannie.
As always I’m impatiently waiting for the next one in the series to be released without any cliffhanger this time.

It’s unbelievable the stories that are created in Marie’s brain and written into an amazing story. It hard not to feel that you are in every scene with them. That you are a part of the first family, riding in a car with Vernon. Arguing with her grasshopper or hugging the newest victims family.

At this point, Sam and Nick are my gold standard for fictional couples.
There are very few series that can keep me invested for this many books without feeling repetitive, but somehow the Fatal series and the First Family spin-off continue to do exactly that. And the reason is simple:
Sam and Nick.
Their love, unwavering loyalty, and absolute devotion to one another have never gotten old. If anything, they've only become more precious over time.
That said... I'm once again here to file the same complaint I've had for the last few books.
Can someone please make Sam go home?
I don't mean permanently. I don't mean she should stop working or choose motherhood over her career. I have absolutely no issue with Sam being ambitious or dedicated to her job.
My issue is that Sam doesn't just work hard—she works all the time.
She constantly takes on more than she has to, refuses to delegate, insists on carrying every investigation herself, and spends countless hours working cases long after her workday should be over.
And it genuinely makes me a little sad.
For someone who wanted so desperately to become a mother, she's missing so many of Aubrey's and Alden's formative years because she simply cannot switch work mode off.
It's not motherhood versus career.
It's work-life balance.
Sam has an incredible team. She has people she trusts. She can delegate.
She just... doesn't.
This book was probably the most frustrating example of that because she repeatedly put herself in unnecessary danger out of a sense of responsibility toward her team.
Is it noble?
Absolutely.
Is it also incredibly reckless when you have small children waiting for you at home?
Also yes.
Please, Sam. Your martyr complex has dependents now.
Thankfully, everything involving Nick continues to remind me why I've stayed with this series for so long.
That man remains one of the greatest book boyfriends of all time.
Every time "Mr. President" makes an appearance, I smile like it's the first time I've read it.
And watching him absolutely lose it because his wife was in danger?
I melted.
Nick has always loved Sam with every fiber of his being, and that protectiveness never feels possessive—it simply comes from loving someone so deeply that the thought of losing them is unbearable.
What makes them such a perfect couple, though, is that it's never one-sided.
Sam is every bit as protective of Nick as he is of her.
I thoroughly enjoyed the satisfaction she took in Gretchen's downfall because of the pain she'd caused Nick. And when Gretchen had the audacity to make that comment about working with him, Sam laughing in her face was one of my favorite moments in the book.
Their loyalty to each other remains completely unshakable.
The kids continue to be an absolute delight as well, especially Scotty. At this point, I'm honestly hoping the series takes a time jump because I would love to see him as a proper teenager. I have a feeling he'd completely steal every scene he was in.
The suspense plot was excellent, as always. Marie Force still knows how to balance political intrigue with the family dynamics that keep me coming back.
That said... McDermott and Ruiz being left in positions of power feels like a disaster waiting to happen, and I'm fully expecting them to wreak havoc in future books.

We need to have a conversation about your hiring process.
First Gretchen.
Now McDermott.
At this point, I think the White House should just outsource all personnel decisions to Sam.
She may never leave work, but at least she'd stop hiring people who eventually try to burn the administration to the ground.
Overall, another solid addition to one of my favorite comfort series. I just hope that somewhere in the next few books, Sam discovers the revolutionary concept of taking a day off.
Nick, the kids, and honestly all of us readers deserve a little more family time.

As Scotty would say, "The book is lit!" I read constantly and this is the first book I've read in awhile that I can honestly say, "I couldn't put it down." So much going on in Sam and Nick's professional lives. Sam is suffering some PTSD like symptoms from all that has happened to her family in the past year for which she wrongly feels at least partially responsible for. Her sister Tracy and her husband Mike are still struggling to find a way back to each other since the kidnapping of their 11 year old son Ethan in the previous book. And Sam is on the hot seat with a vengeful Captain Cruiz for inserting herself into the efforts to find her nephew.
Sam's gut about Gretchen Henderson Nick's choice for VP proved correct when she's discovered to be in a relationship with a Russian dissident that threatens Nick's presidency. The Russian later shows up dead in Sam's morgue. And the Russians do the unthinkable to recover his corpse from the morgue throwing the MPD headquarters into chaos. Then there's the first murder victim in this story a 13 year old boy whose death was a 6 year old cold case until his sister comes to Sam on her 18th birthday to reveal who his killer was. A new AG seems to be unusually demanding in her requirements to bring charges against Sam's suspects.
And if all of this isn't enough Ms. Force continues U.S Marshall Jesse Best's saga of searching for Jordan his younger sister who was abducted 26 years ago. Now Jesse has Memphis Rose the woman he loves also a U.S. Marshall for both tactical and moral support.
Just a great fast paced read with suspense, romance and warm family feels.

I’m always grateful that I discovered this series because every Sam and Nick adventure seems to get better and better. After so many books, the characters truly feel like family, and catching up with them is like visiting old friends.
As Sam is still trying to move forward after everything that happened with Ethan, she's pulled into another complex and gripping case. I loved getting so much Nick in this story and seeing firsthand how he handled the challenges surrounding his VP. Watching events unfold from his perspective added even more depth to an already compelling storyline.
What I love most about this series is how completely it pulls you into its world. The supporting cast is unforgettable, and even characters we've lost along the way still have a presence. I often find myself thinking, "WWSD? What Would Skip Do?" That's a testament to how memorable these characters are and how brilliantly they continue to influence the story.
Filled with suspense, emotion, family, and plenty of moments that kept me turning the pages, this was another fantastic instalment. I loved every minute of it and am already counting down the days until Marie's next adventure for Sam, Nick, and the entire family.

I’ve been in love with this family since book one of the Fatal Series, and State of Unrest is yet another reminder of why I’ve followed Marie Force’s storytelling so faithfully over the years. It never stops amazing me how she keeps this world alive — the twists, the turns, the mystery, the emotional punches — all while maintaining the momentum of a series that’s spanned so many books. She makes it feel fresh every single time.
One of my favorite things about the First Family books is the way she ends each one with a cliffhanger. It’s the kind of suspense that keeps you counting down to the next release, riding that delicious mix of excitement and anticipation. And this book delivered all the feels.
I loved the VP twist, and the way Marie brought Sam’s hesitations to life felt so real and so true to her character. Jesse’s arc was another highlight — he finally got the closure he needed, and it made for such a satisfying, heartfelt ending.

I’d call this book okay — definitely better than the previous one, but still chaotic. The plot felt scattered, with so many subplots pulling my attention in different directions. Everything technically ties together, and the ending wraps things up, but the constant movement made it hard to stay grounded.
I’m glad Sam is finally being called out for ignoring direct orders, though it’s wild that leadership keeps covering for her. In my own job, that kind of behavior would make me question both the employee and the management, and it’s getting harder to suspend disbelief here. I keep asking, why does she still have a job? I know it is fiction, but seriously, come on!
On the positive side, I liked seeing a different side of Nick’s mom — illness can absolutely change someone’s personality — and I think Nick’s VP choice was a great move. Scotty continues to be hilarious and one of the bright spots of the series.
Overall, this book was just… a lot. I’m not sure yet if I’ll pre‑order the next one. I used to be a diehard fan, but at this point it feels like the series needs to start winding down. Nick has 2½ years left in his presidency, and each book covers so little time that I’m not sure how many more installments are even possible without things getting increasingly outrageous.
I’m glad Sam is finally being called out for ignoring direct orders, though it’s wild that leadership keeps covering for her. In my own job, that kind of behavior would make me question both the employee and the management, and it’s getting harder to suspend disbelief here. I keep asking, why does she still have a job? I know it is fiction, but seriously, come on!
On the positive side, I liked seeing a different side of Nick’s mom — illness can absolutely change someone’s personality — and I think Nick’s VP choice was a great move. Scotty continues to be hilarious and one of the bright spots of the series.
Overall, this book was just… a lot. I’m not sure yet if I’ll pre‑order the next one. I used to be a diehard fan, but at this point it feels like the series needs to start winding down. Nick has 2½ years left in his presidency, and each book covers so little time that I’m not sure how many more installments are even possible without things getting increasingly outrageous.

I've been reading this series from the beginning, and somehow Marie Force still finds a way to keep me wanting more.
Sam and Nick are still one of my favorite couples, and I love that even after all these books, their relationship never feels stale. This time around, Sam is investigating another murder while everything happening with the vice president adds even more chaos. Every time it seemed like one mystery was getting solved, something else happened to change everything.
I also loved getting the family moments mixed in with the investigation. Scottie always steals a scene, and it was nice catching up with the rest of the First Family while the case unfolded. That explosion definitely wasn't something I saw coming, and it completely changed where I thought the story was going.
Marie Force always does a great job balancing the suspense with the personal moments, and that's one of the reasons I keep coming back to this series. That ending left me ready to pick up the next book as soon as it's out.

Nick and Sam are back. After having had to deal with too many crises and cases hitting close to home, Sam has a bad feeling. And she will be right.
When a young woman comes in to give a statement to solve a cold case, Sam feels like she finally has an easy win even though the story touches her deeply. But the new District Attorney doesn’t seem to think so.
At the same time Nick learns about a political scandal involving his Vice President and a Russian opposition leader that could end his presidency. When the opposition leader turns up dead Sam and her team get involved and chaos erupts.
I enjoyed this book, as any other one of the series. Sam and Nick are amazing and their kids are adorable. But I would love for them to get a break. Let’s just skip a couple of days or weeks before the next disaster strikes. This one was very interesting because it had so many aspects and feels kind of related to current events. Another in red read by Marie. I tarted reading the series with book 1 of the fatal series earlier this year and became obsessed! I cannot get enough of Nick and Sam. They have quickly become one of my favorite book couples. Sam in particular is such a great character. Her humor and banter with everyone around her is so entertaining that I fly through the books.
Nick and Sam’s love and how they have created a wonderful family is very endearing. Not to mention the kiddos, especially Scotty. Absolutely love the love Nick and Sam share they depend on that to support them through the crazy life they lead.
Freddy and Sam, love the banter and love that Sam has for her entire team. She takes her job to another level caring so deeply for the victims of the crimes she investigates.

state of Unrest
I love The First Family series. Every book that came out was always better than the last one.

There were updates on Sam and Nick's family and friends like Tracy and Mike, Gonzo and Christina's new home, Miss Maissie's christening, Jessie Best search for his sister and so much more. Scottie is too funny and the littles are so precious, calling Nick and Sam mom and dad. A few jaw dropping surprises in State of Unrest, new people that I hope we will get to know. I am so excited for the next book. Can't wait to see Nick, Terence and Graham work together.

There were many POVs going on throughout the story. I liked how Nick took back the Narrative of the story with the VP and made sure he controlled it. In books before it has always seemed like he was playing defense this changed it up. Sam needs to play some offense with her job. I feel like she is having people control her and if she wants her job she needs to play chess to maintain the narrative. The kids are adorable in these stories and I’m glad we get to have a piece of the family throughout the story because it makes it more entertaining and interesting to read.

Another great book!
I love to read the interconnecting lives of the characters in this fab series. I'm never disappointed in Marie's wonderful writing that weaves thrills and chills along with true love of family and friends. She adeptly weaves humor between all the tough dialogue. The banter with Scotty, Freddie and Sam's secret service agents is perfection!!! I also marvel at how she keeps so many threads going in each of her books. What a master juggler! I just love Sam and Nick, Scotty, the "littles," and the wonderful side characters. It's truly a series I will always remember!

More Sam and Nick!
What a wild ride! More non-stop action in a week of the life/show of Nick and Sam. After the trauma of Ethan's kidnapping in the last book, I wasn't sure if Tracy would ever be able to get past what she saw as Mike's betrayal. I am glad she's getting the therapy she needed after the trauma of Brooke, and now Ethan. And I was delighted that Jesse Best finally got resolution about his long lost sister.
The best parts are the family scenes with Scotty and the Littles. I hope that Elijah can shut down the Littles' greedy, grasping grandparents for good.
Another excellent book by Marie Force. Looking forward to the next one!

What a book! Ms. Force is a master storyteller who keeps your interest and takes you on an amazing adventure. Sam and Nick are always finding themselves in the middle of trouble yet find comfort and support in each other. This time, Nick and his administration is the focus, and Sam is also called in to assist. Nick is finding himself in his role as president and leading the free country. As Nick deals with the betrayal of his Vice President, Sam is doing what she does best and bringing justice to those who deserve it. Looking forward to the next installment.

COMPELLING READ
Marie Force is one of my favorite authors and she creates compelling narratives where you really care an identify with the characters. These are books you want to read again and again and I look forward to the next book to continue the story. I sincerely hope that this series continues even after the presidency ends and perhaps going on to post presidency scenarios as you really don't want this to end. Marie explores the emotions and the love between the characters without falling into the trap of useless graphic sexual scenes to make up for a lack of narrative. Can't wait for the next installment of any of her series.

There's a couple of storylines in number 11 of the series. An 18yr old walk in tells Sam that her brother was murdered when she was 11 and she knows who the murderer is. Seems her testimony isn't enough for the new DA and they have to get more evidence to corroborate her story.
Secondly, a body is thrown from a car with diplomatic plates in DC. There's a bombing at the precinct to retrieve the body and it's all linked to the unlikeable VP.
A lot of family and extended family in this one and always a quick read.

Twisty, turns life!
I’m with another reader, who stated they were caught by the first sentence. My life went out the window, as I read about Sam, Nick, the kids and all the friends/family they’re surrounded by. The twists keep you guessing; the writing is smooth, and so easy to read, which I enjoy! How a mind can come up with all these stories and weave them together with such skill, is beyond me.
