Ken and company find that with the introduction of the Threadspawn, the whole dungeon becomes far less friendly. Even the populace on Earth is spooked. Which is why the UG and Haylon sends Ken and a few others on the press tour. Though, even that can't keep Ken from the action. The Threadspawn invade Earth meanwhile Ken is recruited fully into the demon hierarchy. Now he has to balance loyalties to the UG and the Hierachry while the Threadspawn threat grows ever closer.
Born and raised in the agricultural midwest, I moved every year after school even as far as Shanghai before settling down with my wife in Chicago.
I have always enjoyed Wuxia stories and became thrilled when I discovered harem stories spreading to western books. I've written down my day dreams for years as an idle hobby. Inspired by the harem genre I'm finally fleshing them out into full blown novels.
I'm excited to share my stories with you as I turn them into novels and series.
Not much positive to say, really. I may have run my course with this series. I was a good series for the first seven or so books, but these last three have been more of a chore than a pleasure.
I don't understand how you can use the tried-and-true mind-controlling-parasite trope and then immediately ruin it by giving your MC an ability that negates the entire POINT of the trope; the inability to determine who is infected. THAT is the entire magic sauce.
But, it's not even the worst part of the book; the story just meanders all over the place. We've abandoned all the interesting companions, focusing exclusively on the ones that have become the most one-dimensional - the horny demon and the worthless cat. Seriously, I get that the author thinks the whole cream thing is funny but ... it's not. And it's less funny when you see it 30 times in one book.
And, worse than all of that, the whole demon lord thing turned into the biggest nothing burger. I thought this might be an opportunity for some interesting conflict; will the demon lord force Ken to submit and take over his cult and harem? Of course not. Ugh.
So I quit two thirds in. What gets me is I've read Saving Supervillians, I know Sentar can do quality character work. Why this is filled with flat characters pumped through a turnstile is beyond me. The interview part in the beginning set the tone for this, and was very unimpressive.
Welp another good one from Bruce. Lots to love in this book. Good pacing, good character development, interesting new/continuing plot points and good world building.
I will admit that I’m still not a particularly big fan of the whole mind control parasite things, it’s kinda very icky (at least for me) and something I hope will eventually shift away from soonish. Or at least morph into revealing that they are their own bigger species without needing hosts. Bruce writes it very well to the point I’m still game to read it atm but it’s normally something I steer well clear of.
A brighter thing is liking the trial abilities and seeing more get that. Looking forward to seeing that develop.
Also curious to see if Ken will get a second one?
As far as I remember it’s never been said that you can’t have more than one, and I’m pretty sure that I do remember in another book it being mentioned that some of the greatest divers of the other races had figures that achieved multiple trials. It would be interesting if they maybe essentially speed ran to get trial abilities to help deal with this parasite plot more quickly? Also moves up the dungeon lore which I find incredibly interesting and hoping that it will get developed further along with Ken’s class. It seemed to be made a bit of a big deal earlier and would be interesting to see it developed more too.
Anyway this review went onto a bit of a ramble but long story short, it’s another great entry and looking forward to the next one.
Ken felt marginally and intermittently more competent this time, as he for better or worse at least tries to solve his own problems. Unfortunately, we get no sense of his overall progression as the author doesn’t share a status update for him, like ever, and we only know he is level 52 because a demon mentions it. I’m unclear whether he gained a single level in this book. Instead, we focus on hunting worms and forgetting his older (and better) love interests. The main antagonist, being the Threadspawn, is really a disappointment as it is taking way too much time to solve and is undermining what could have been more interesting encounters with the "deeper races". I had high hopes for Ken’s early encounters with the Demon Hierarchy. Sadly battling parasites is just never a good long-term plot in my opinion, and why he wasn’t using Eyes of Wisdom from the get-go to eradicate them, I will never understand. Since there seems to be no limit to this overpowered ability, it seems ludicrous that he seemingly forgets about it (instead of using it 24/7). He instead slows the momentum by moralizing and searching for hypothetical solutions as he puts everyone he loves at risk.
I think a referenced to his lvl being 52 without any other character details the entire book is not litrpg. You could argue it is, however, the whole series points out how lvl doesn't mean your stats are there. Idk if it's the speed or what but the last two books kinda seem phoned in. Like I loved the demon and thread guys story but like how are other races just popping up on earth with no warning? Like there are guards etc and the main branches are pretty well traveled but somehow zero warning came out before the dwarf attack? The PR stuff didn't mesh either imo like it was okay but since when did colleges get to volunteer you for stuff like that. You could maybe say 'Crimson' but really why would any of the actual mcs care if there are less divers for a few years. I think there was like 0.5 sex scenes and rest ftb. Additionally, I have a super 2 of a kind ability to detect infiltrates...think I'll randomly use my ability when I feel like it...idk it's just feeling really lazy ATM not litrpg, illogical plot holes, no sex scenes...and I still gave it a 3 just need more time to edit and add some elements back into the books
This book does a good job of shaking up the story. After many books of school-focused stories and a couple in the dungeon, we return to Earth and the everyday world to see how far our characters have come.
The world building remains fantastic, with many interesting threads developing simultaneously.
The existing romantic relationships are less dramatic and more stable than before, but are nonetheless fun. As a side benefit, non-romantic relationships also get a bit more time. Sadly, the clan is still sidelined for the most part, but the UG and Harem Queen both provide interesting perspectives.
There was a new woman added to the harem. She was introduced several books ago. She was hired as the public relations representative for the Silver Fangs. With the big shakeup that the dungeon had the year before in the book and the discovery of the worms (Threadspawn) that can take over a persons body there has been a drop off in the amount of people who want to become dungeon explorers. The United Guild (UG)and the Haylon academy decide that sending Ken and Des on a publicity tour is just what is needed. That is where the PR lady is needed. The Threadspawn threat has everyone on edge because it seems that no group of people are immune. The Demon kingdom is also concerned and they go checking everyone and trying to purge the worms from their ranks. This leads one of the demon lords to come to Star City where Ken has been masquerading as an Incubus. This leads to further complications that will be addressed in future books.
I DNF this book pretty early in. There were a few troubling trends with the harem size and the training montages. In this book, the MC is apparently going on a press tour, and as part of it their personal press person is giving him and one of the LIs some training to get ready for how interviews will go. And this woman is playing with his manhood through his pants while asking him questions he needs to know how to handle. That's the point I realized the author's bad habit of writing by the "seat of his pants" had caught up to him yet again. Harem too big, plots that make no sense, and all the rest.
Loved the book!!! But, it was short! Or, at least, it seemed that way to me! 😕😔😕😔 Maybe, try making it longer!!? Make the book encompass more of the story? The story about the threadspawn is creepy as hell!! And the solution they ended up eventually using seemed kind of obvious. Of course, that is from the readers point of view. But, overall, the storyline so far in this book is good. I do not think I would be able to put up with the whole pr thing. No, I know I wouldn't!! That shit can get insane!!! But, the battle in New York was awesome!!!!
Continuing to follow along as our hero gains info and explores the dungeon. But there wasn't really much dungeon this book. The development of Bell was good and sort of expected. The development of the demon situation was about what seemed likely. The threadspawn sort of picked up powers quick and I'm not sure everything holds together, but it wasn't terrible - but I'd be using my special power way more to just be ahead of this thing. Sort of felt forced with the break apart of work with the top guy.
Things ramp up for Ken and the ladies of Haylon – threadspawn, devils, and PR tours, oh my! The cover shows Bellaire, the newest lady to join Ken between the sheets. The action is non-stop as the stacks increase. Excellent editing. Now to wait until the next book release! Argh!
If you like the previous books in the series, you're going to enjoy this one. If you didn't, you're not going to a new girls added to his Entourage plenty of battles. Plenty of fights. New faction is fleshed out more. Can't go into any more detail than that than and not run the plot. I apologize for any spelling errors. I'm writing this review of voice to text. Hope it helps
Ooooh Sentar cooked an absolute BANGER with this one. The stakes grow more dire as our boi has to literally play a game of thrones to save his hide(and possibly grow even stronger) as well as play metal gear solid with his ug bosses. You can bet that the next book will get even more explosive as we see how the group grows further
Phenomenal read as always! Love the direction Sentar went with this series. He has many angles and routes he can work with and this is one of the most suspenseful and chilling reads of the series so far! I love the added stress that Ken and the group are having to work with on this new enemy. I won’t say more but well done!
This series is a great read! I know I'm going to laugh and cheer and just enjoy it from the first word to the last! That the enemy has found Earth is definitely going to be troubling but not near as hard the MC is going to have to work to stay on the Demons good side lol!!!
We get to a climax of the Threadspawn arc and possibly a solution. Great new characters and a new love interest. All in all a great continuation of the series.
Only pet peeve is the inability to track the growth of Crimsom, Ken and the core harem. I miss Broken Blade and the other elves too. Otherwise another bad mammajamma hopefully we get many more.
What I will say about this book is that it strays away from the dungeon diving a lot more and focuses on the threadspawn which isn't terrible but I feel like this book was worse than the rest so far and I haven't seen a status screen in forever.
I devoured this read like all the others. I hope Des or someone else in the party gets a kick ass trial ability that's new to everyone.... And the demons introduce several new elements to the world.
I’m hoping the storyline moves away from the worms soon as I am not a fan of people being controlled by someone or something else. Concentrating on levelling up and the demons would be preferable for me.
I just could not put it down. The worms turn out to be a very dangerous enemy. We get to learn more about demon society and Ken makes some powerful new allies. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
I can’t get enough of the Dungeon Diving books by Bruce Sentar! This one is awesome, incredible story, great action, cool characters. I can’t wait for 303!
The switch to Star City and the deeper races could have sapped the strength of the series but this book keeps things going strong. Plenty of great adventures as well as character growth in this book. The dungeon is getting bigger and deeper and our characters are growing right along with it.
