Getting attacked by feral dogs in the alley behind the bakery is a crappy way to start my weekend. And it only gets worse when an insanely sexy man tells me I’ve been bitten by a werewolf. Though he's obviously insanely insane as well as drop-dead hot, I can't stop myself from thinking about the killer body under his expensive silvery suit… or the secrets in the depths of his ice-blue eyes.
Reeve
All bets are off. The vicious rogues invading my territory infected a human woman with the werewolf virus. And as civilized as I try to be, I want a taste of that smart tongue and curvy body. Already I scent the change in her: a wildness that makes her a threat to my endangered pack… and at the same time makes my blood sing. I’ll never let the rogues take her. She belongs to us.
Bitten is the first episode of HEART OF THE PACK, a paranormal shapeshifter BBW romance serial in eight parts. The stories contain adult language and graphic sexual situations with a dominant alpha male seeking a mate for his pack. Rated M for mature and W for wild readers only.
I grew up reading SFF, buying the biggest books I could with my chore money. While I loved the action, adventure, and exciting worlds, most of those stories were missing…kissing! Now I read and write paranormal romance and science fiction romance which I think mix the best of all worlds. I also write urban fantasy romance as Jessa Slade and sexy contemporary romance as Jenna Dales.
I spend most of my time at my computer thinking about stories, in my garden thinking about stories, or walking my dog thinking about stories. Hmm, I think there’s a theme… 🙂
Not great. I found the MC very annoying, and I've never been a fan of the "baker" angle (what's with that anyway? I seem to keep reading annoying heroines who love to bake or own a bakery...is that a thing?) And the writing here was choppy, story not developed or paced very well.
However, I did like some of the love interests as characters, just not the insta-love that seemed to be happening. Or maybe it wasn't precisely insta-love...more like insta-lust desperation (because the whole pack was desperate for a woman kinda thing). LOL
But it wasn't the worst thing I've ever read. At least in the beginning. I became less enamored of it as the series progressed.
For the series: 2.5 stars
Warning: I'd say this was on the erotica border, as I recall. Certainly explicit. And definitely BBW that all the shifters are attracted to. Oh, and yeah...SERIAL :( So get the omnibus if you try this one.
"Heart of the Pack" is a currently an unfinished serial novel (4 of 8 parts, each about 50 pages long) that captured me right from the get-go. Knowing it was an unfinished serial, I was hesitant to start it at all, because I knew I didn't want to wait for the ending to be written (Come on, Elsa, my dear! Finish this book, please!) But, I told myself, I will only take a tiny peek at the first paragraph. Then the first chapter. Then the first part.
I was quickly hooked.
The story is written in shifting perspectives, that of Bettina's, the overweight baker who's bitten by her store's dumpster by a pack of rogue wolves, and Reeve, an alpha prime who rescues her from said rogues and tries to recruit her to his own pack to act as a balance to all the testosterone and werewolfish virus floating around. Quick, sharp, hot, intense. Very recommended.
Wow! This book really hooked me from the start and I enjoyed this first installment so much that I bought the box set immediately!
Bettina is a baker owner who is self-reliant, partially because she has to be and partially because she tries not to get too close to people anymore. That all gets thrown up in the air when she is attacked by a pack of wolves after closing time. A bit leads to a seemingly chance run in with a sizzling guy named Reeve. Turns out that this little town has more werewolves than it seems.
As the start of a series, we get a lot of sizzling smut, action, and character intro to have me hooked now. I can't wait to see if Bettina survives this crazy turn in her life, if Reeve can get her to believe in his "good" pack and if they are all as yummy as Reeve. What a fantastic find in my "to-read" pile!
I think Bettina is in for a neck of a wild ride. I have enjoyed every one of Elsa Jate's stories I have read. So that being said I'm off to read the next book. Happy reading
Enjoyed this series, although I am glad these were on Kindle Unlimited as the seven books in this series are really only one book. They all follow on from each other, each after the first starting part way through the story and ending on cliff hangers that lead into the next book.
Having said that they were well written, with strong characters and a plot with many twists, which kept you guessing throughout. The only part I felt was a little weak was the ending, this left me a little disappointed, but the journey there was enjoyable.
I am a fan of both paranormal and BBW romance reads. That being said I decided to give this read a try. And I am so glad I did! Bettina is sweet, smart, and sassy. Love her character. And Reeve, well he seems Hot! Good thing he's around when Bettina is caught minding her own business yet still trouble finds her. Great short read when just want to get lost in a book. Budget friendly too.
A fantastic start to a new novel vel series! Bettina and Reeves characters are well developed and the plot is well thought out. The dialogue is common and not stilted and the spate of action were well placed and described. I loved this first part of the story, the set up for the rest was really nicely done. I cannot wait to read the rest of it!
Kindle Unlimited series. Cliffhanger. Has great potential. She's bitten and along comes an Alpha to save her...sorta. He can't keep her hands off her, brick burn. Ends with a cliffhanger where they're speeding off from the pack who wants her.
Rapid fire pace, heart pounding, Elsa Jade has the ability to make you feel the tension, the fear, the pain. I really enjoyed this first book I've read of hers and want more!
But it felt more like a teaser, then a whole book. The author did not give us much character development. The story gave us an idea of where the book is going.. I will definitely read the next one to see if it more.
Well written, typical paranormal romance. Characters are well-developed, and a great balance of sex and action.. My only compliant is I read it before the other parts were published!
