He was the first boy who ever saw her—not her family's name, not her illness, just her. He was also the heir to a criminal empire he was sworn to destroy.
Nora Kingston knows the trust no one, protect your family’s reputation, and never let them see you falter. Living with a hidden medical condition in the glittering, gossip-fueled world of Port Carmine is a constant high-wire act. Her only solace is her three enigmatic friends—the Ashlin cousins, with their sharp smiles, cherry-red hair streaks, and a loyalty that feels like a fortress.
Especially Victor. The quiet artist who became her anchor. The boy who vanished without a word for two years.
Now he’s back. Taller, harder, with a storm in his eyes that wasn’t there before. He says he left to protect her. He says his dangerous family is the reason. Nora wants to believe him, wants to lose herself in the future they’re finally building.
But when a chilling encounter reveals the terrifying truth, Nora’s world shatters. Victor isn’t just from a bad family. He’s the reluctant heir to the Fangs, the most feared syndicate in the city. And he’s not running from his legacy—he’s leading a secret war from the shadows to burn it all down.
He lied to keep her safe. Now, his enemies know she’s his only weakness.
Caught in the crossfire of a hidden war, Nora must make an impossible choice. Walk away from the only love she’s ever known, or step into the darkness beside him. But in a world where loyalty is bought with blood and love is the ultimate target, the wrong choice could destroy them both.
The Price Shadow is a really interesting and well written book that keeps you hooked as you read. The story flows nicely, and the characters feel real, not forced. I liked how the author shows how small choices can turn into big consequences over time.
People should read this book because it makes you stop and think about the price we pay for our decisions, even the ones we don’t take seriously at first. At the same time, it’s still an enjoyable and engaging story, not boring or hard to follow. Overall, it’s a good read that stays with you after you finish.
At first I wasn’t sure how a dark romance could be a “clean dark romance” but this author did a wonderful job. Victor is definitely the morally grey MMC, with a heart of gold and touch her and grrrr personality. Nora is BA with an unfortunate health issue that does hold her back from kicking butt further. These two initially fall for each other in high school, but upon graduation, he disappears in order to save her from a dangerous fate. When he returns, he has developed what is necessary to keep her safe! I look forward to following their journey when the next book is released!
