5 stars. I bought this for my children many years ago for bedtime storytime during the run up to Christmas. Beautifully illustrated and a lovely story, pure and simple as it should be. I read it again yesterday and really enjoyed it. Just to sit and look at detailed pictures takes your mind off other things.

The Magic Sleigh and The Secret Valley were later publications in the Foxwood Tales

The other six books were childhood favourites, that I read frequently and whose art I compared all future picture books to. This one and The Secret Valley are weak compared to their older siblings.

The art is still incredibly beautiful, like always.
