Dawn of Alaska #6
Beyond the Dawn
Twelve years ago, tragedy tore her away from the only man she ever loved. Now Clarise Wells, widowed and nearly penniless, returns to Sitka, Alaska with two young children and no place to call home. Desperate to escape the influence of her late senator husband’s powerful family, she longs for a quiet life on the Alaska frontier. But when Washington lawyers arrive demanding custody of her son, Clarise is thrust into a dangerous legal battle she cannot hope to win alone.
The only man with the influence to help her is the one she once left behind.
Alexei Amos, newly appointed governor, is determined to bring a new era of justice to 1880s Alaska—protecting Native land rights, stabilizing frontier communities, and bringing hope to a people long failed by previous governors. But helping Clarise puts his reputation, leadership, and political future at risk. Washington demands obedience. Sitka demands stability. And Clarise and her children need protection that only Alexei can provide.
As federal pressure mounts, audits tighten, and a custody fight reaches from D.C. to Alaska, Alexei must choose between safeguarding his position—or standing for the woman and the people he never stopped fighting for.

While she'd love to claim she spends her days huddled in front of her computer vigorously typing, in reality, she spends her time homeschooling, cleaning, picking up, and pretending like her house isn't in a constant state of chaos. She lives with her husband and three children in Michigan's rugged Upper Peninsula, along the southern shore of Lake Superior where they get 200 inches of snow every year, and where people still grow their own vegetables and cut down their own firewood--just like in the historical novels she writes.

I'm sad that I've been struggling to write this review. The first five books in this story were ALL 5 stars and I can't say enough about how much I loved each one, especially the men in the stories. I think the strength of the men, their integrity and reliability, stood out so strongly. Always at the forefront steering the ship was Alexei. I don't know what happened to him in this story, but he didn't act like any of those things. It almost felt like I was reading a different author write his ending.
So, what's I'm about to say, some might call it a spoiler, so proceed with caution.
I really liked meeting Laurel in book 5 and my heart just ached for her and how she was treated by her family. I had some foreboding, though, with what might be coming. She makes it to Alaska and is seriously just the sweetest! She ends up staying with the Amos family when her father leaves her there with the hope she'll become engaged to Alexei.
At the same time, Clarise has come "home" to Alaska on one of the Amos's ships. Rightly so, Alexei's family isn't thrilled to see her and things don't go great when she tries to start her shop. Since Alexei is the new Governor, he helps get things straightened out - at least temporarily.
I think in this story, we don't have that awful Caldwell family doing terrible things and making the Amos family's lives miserable. That "villain" element was missing for me. Yes, Clarise has to deal with her dead husband's family, but I think for her, it was just a lot of despair and feeling unworthy of being loved. I felt for Clarise. She's alone in the world with only her children and her dead husband's family trying to make her life miserable. Plus, she carries guilt that weighs her down.
The hardest part was how no one was honest with Laurel about Clarise and Alexei's past. I think it was Alexei's duty to tell her, yet he never finds the time, but he certainly finds the time for other things... and people. Laurel's sweetness spills over to Clarise, and poor Laurel is completely in the dark. I DID appreciate Alexei's brothers being firm with him and standing up for what was the right thing to do. THAT, from the other stories, rings true.
I get that the author wanted a springboard for going into a new series, but it was at the detriment of Laurel. Just a lot of betrayal. And it didn't stop with the Amos family. More came from her own family.
I appreciated Alexei standing up for the Native American's rights to fish and not being encroached upon by canning facilities. I love the idea of second-chance romances, forgiveness, etc. I believe for me, how all of it to happen and it impacted Laurel was just not ok. It really ruined the story for me.
I do know that others will (and do) love this story! We all come to stories with different expectations, likes and dislikes, and personal experiences that will impact how we see storylines and characters. I'm absolutely going to read the first book in the next series (especially after reading the sneak peek) because I'm here to champion Laurel!

Wow! I'm not ready to leave the Amos family
I just finished the final book in the Dawn of Alaska series and I wasn't ready to say goodbye to the Amos family. This has become one of my favorite Christian historical fiction series.
I loved how Rawlings brought Alaska to life. Having taken an Alaskan cruise, I appreciated how accurately and vividly she captured the beauty of the mountains, forest, bays, and remote settlements. Her descriptions transported me back to Alaska while teaching me about its fascinating history--fishing, gold mining, shipping, exploration, and the trading posts that shaped the region.
The Amos family is unforgettable. Each of the six books focuses on a different sibling yet the family's love, loyalty, and unwavering support remain at the heart of every story. Set during the late 1800's, The series beautifully portrays a family determined to preserve its heritage, remain true to its Christian faith, and persevere through adversity.
I especially appreciated how scripture was woven naturally into each story. Rather than feeling forced, biblical truths flowed through the character struggles and victories revealing God's faithfulness in meaningful ways.
Beyond the Dawn, the last book in this series, is beautifully delivered adding closure to many of the questions that were left lingering in the previous books.
I highly recommend reading the books in order because each story builds on the last, making the family relationships and overall storyline even more rewarding.
I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys Christian historical fiction, strong family-centered stories, clean romance, rich historical detail, and settings that feel like characters themselves. I gave this series a 5 star review because it excels in every area: memorable characters, engaging plots, authentic faith, excellent historical research, and a setting so vividly written that I felt as though I was experiencing Alaska alongside the Amos family. I closed the final book feeling both satisfied and grateful that I had taken the journey with them.

Alexei picked up the pieces when his fiance Clarise left without a word following the tragic death of his brother, and he's made a good life for himself. Now most of his siblings are happily married at last, he's thinking of settling down - and Laurel seems the perfect candidate. Unfortunately, Clarise appears back in Alaska not long before Laurel is due to arrive on a visit, leaving him confused by his own feelings and eager to discover the truth of why she left - not to mention unable to avoid helping her with the unexpected problems she finds awaiting her. Can Clarise escape the toils of a family who care for nothing but money and status? And when Alexei learns the truth of why Clarise left, will it open a door to a new life or close the door once and for all on the old?
Alexei has been the one holding everything together throughout the series, so it's great to see him finally getting his own story - and also a great way to wrap up the series (which I'm at once sad and satisfied to see end). I also appreciated seeing his 'I have to hold everything together' attitude challenged, because it's not realistic, nor is it Christian. Clarise has been through a lot, so it's delightful to see her finally finding the help and support she needs against a pack of bullies. Not to mention making right the problems of the past. I'm really looking forward to seeing Laurel get her own story (and the start of a new series sounds exciting!) - she's such a great character and I was almost sorry to see her miss out on a life with Alexei, except that he clearly still belonged with Clarise. All in all, a great read and a lovely end to the series - recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I loved the cultural history from this time period that was weaved into the story so well. I appreciate historical novels that give the reader a taste of the period. I wasn't pulled out of the story once. This has been a wonderful family to have gotten to know and it is always bittersweet when a series ends. I was happy we got an epilogue to wrap up and see where the family members are and are doing. To be fair I was apprehensive when I knew there could be a possible love triangle and I did feel for the character Laurel. However, how the story unfolded and ended I think the author did a satisfying job to where the reader will feel as everything worked out for the best even if difficult. That is life! (At the end of the book we get a sneek peek for what's in store for Laurel. I'm so very excited for the next book of this authors. Laurel will get her time to shine and I'm there for it!) As for this book there the writing was solid with good flow, dialogue, honest introspection for the characters. Sacha was a good sounding board and the whole family was fabulous for adding great depth to the story and helping Alexi through this trial. There was a lot of depth and layers to this story, series, and characters.

A perfect ending to a wonderful series! I truly did not wish to read the series as I knew next to nothing about the subject and frankly did not have a big desire to learn. I am so glad I put that aside; this series was amazing! I got to see things through others' eyes and I enjoyed it. The Amos family is so interconnected with each other (and not that hard to keep track of in a series!) They genuinely love and care for each other and are willing to set aside their own interests to help when a need arises.
This final book was such a beautiful story of redemption, forgiveness, and the GOD who gives us second chances. I loved the King James version of the Scriptures shared. They flowed easily into the conversations. The love story ending was a long time coming, in both years and the number of books, but it was well worth the wait.
My favorite quote did not come from the actual story, but from the "Author's Note":
"Fortunately, the GOD I love specializes in redemption, which is one of the truth's I find most comforting in Scripture. GOD never says that He erases the past, nor does He pretend that painful things never happened. Instead, He offers mercy, forgiveness, and the possibility of a future that is shaped by His grace rather than our failures."
OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!!!!

Beyond the Dawn by Naomi Rawlings
Dawn of Alaska Series Book Six
Governor Alexei Amos, the oldest brother, has cared for his siblings since their parents passed away twelve years ago. He’d also lost his brother Ivan around that time, his best friend. At least he’d had his fiancée, until she took off too. Now, after twelve years…she’s back. Alexei is moving on, though. Laurel, the woman he’s been getting to know, has also come to visit. Amid the craziness of being Alaska’s governor, he now has relationship issues to deal with as well.
Clarise Rothley Wells loved Sitka, Alaska, when her dad was governor. When her husband passed away, she chose to move here with her two children. Yet trouble has followed her from Washington, DC. A brother-in-law is fighting to control her money and kids. In Sitka, more issues. A mess left by Simon Caldwell that reached even into her life. And guilt that she’s been carrying for twelve years.
Another wonderful story in this series. As the last book in the Dawn of Alaska series, I always find it sad to say goodbye to the characters. Looking forward to this author’s next exciting series.

If you have been reading the Dawn of Alaska series then you saying goodbye or any war that she was leaving. Now, twelve years later, Clarice returns - a young widow with two children and apparently no money, even though she comes from a wealthy birth family and her late husband was wealthy.
Alexei has been courting Laurel, whose family is also wealthy and all of them involved in politics. However, even though he has been considering asking Laurel to become his wife his heart still aches for Clarice.
Which one will he choose? Does Clarice still love him? Why did she leave so abruptly with no warning? Clarice has her secrets. Both women are beautiful, kind, smart, and maybe in love with Alexei.
If Alexei doesn't want Clarice, there are plenty of other men willing to court her and make her their wife. Her late husband's family doesn't want to let her go? Not because they really are about her but she (or rather her children) are worth too much for them to lose.
This book is full of mystery and intrigue, problems to be solved, fears that have to be faced, and faith that is tested to the max. Once you start reading, you will not want to put it down!

What a wonderful finale to the Amos family saga. Alexei has spent his life caring for others and trying to live according to the Word of God. As he faces many challenges as the new governor of Alaska and prepares to marry a lovely young woman, the only woman he has ever loved returns to Sitka widowed, with two children, and needing help. As things unfold, Clarise finds the forgiveness she has craved, and the Amos family offers her that forgiveness. I did feel sorry for Laurel who came to Alaska expecting a marriage to Alexei and found herself unexpectedly caught in the middle of a situation from the past. The surprising twist in her life leaves her lost and alone, but she determiness to trust God and step out into the unknown. I can't wait to read her story. The characters in this series are so well written and I loved getting to know the Amos family.
I received a copy of this book from the author as an ARC, but a positive review was not required.

This is the 6 th book in the series of the Amos family in Alaska
This has been my favourite book in the series . Alexei and Clarisse fell in love years ago but she broke of the engagement she left and married another man but he never forgot her
After years of caring for his family Alexei finally starts to see Laurel but suddenly Clarisse returns to Sitka with her children her husband has died and she is in the midst of a crisis
There are some authors whose skills in writing draw you in right from the beginning and Naomi Rawlings is definitely one of them .
There is a lovely warm thread of Christianity woven through this love story and it enriches this story of family , trials , love and importance of forgiving self and others in order to move on in life
I am already looking forward to the next book by this author and would definitely recommend this author for clean romances with great storylines

Beyond the Dawn rounds off the beautiful and inspirational Dawn of Alaska series about the Amos family. To finally read Alexei’s story, after having followed each member of the family through their struggles and their life choices, has been such a joy.
When Clarise and her family arrive in Sitka, little did she know that her life would be turned upside down! In the time when women had to struggle to have their own identity, Clarise had to learn to put her trust in God for every mistake she had made and every step she took. Even every encounter she had with Alexei!
Little did Alexei know that when Clarise and her family needed help, that it would open up old wounds. Only by the grace of God leading him, was he able to step into his future.
Definitely a book and series I would highly recommend!

Faithful and True
For twelve long years, Alexei has put his life and heart of hold. Focusing on caring for his siblings consumes his thoughts. Only during private moments of weakness does he let his heart mourn what could have been. Now he is finally ready to allow his heart to love.
I truly wondered how this story would be resolved. Rawlings continues to surprise me with complicated plots and complex characters. She is a master of bringing her plots to satisfying conclusions. Her characters rely on their faith with humility and grace.
I really enjoyed learning about St. Michael’s Cathedral in Sitka. It is glorious. This book is the culmination of Rawlings’ Alaskan series. The historical elements were fascinating as I learned about the struggle toward statehood.

Satisfying!
Alexei is the oldest sibling in his family and the only one not married. As the newly appointed governor of Alaska, he barely has time to catch his breath. When his ex-fiancé returns to Sitka as a widow, he finds himself attracted to her once again even though she broke his heart 12 years ago. To complicate matters, the woman he’s been writing to and is interested in comes for a visit with the hope of marrying him. Which woman will win his heart? The one he loves, of course! Book 6 is a very satisfying storyline to end an excellent series!

I really enjoyed this book! It’s a low-spice, family-centered romance with a beautiful redemption theme. One of my favorite parts was getting to know the entire family and watching the relationships develop—it made me even more invested in the story.
If you enjoy clean romance, redemption, and characters that feel like family, I definitely recommend reading the whole series. This author is one of my favorites, and this book reminded me why!

Grace! Freely given by God but so hard for us to believe that it actually has been extended to us. What a great storyline and book to finish the Dawn of Alaska series! I have truly loved reading each of the six books in the series and have recommended them to several friends. I love that the author has tied the storylines to the actual history of Alaska and the actual history of how the laws were written and applied in that time period! Great job Naomi!

My husband and I were so excited to read this, end of the series, book, and it didn't disappoint!! We have read all six and this was a great way to say goodbye to the Amos family! It also would be great to read if you haven't read the others, although it might make you want to get to know the rest of the family's stories! If you like big families, different personalities, Alaska, romance, intrigue, equality for women in the workplace, and much more, this is the book for you!!

Wow! Great end to the series!! I had come to love the main characters throughout the series, so really enjoyed all the updates on all their lives. Rawlings does a great job on the plot twists as she pulls all the story threads together for the brand finale. There's good spiritual insights too on God's love that doesn't depend on our loveableness, on not trying to be God for those we're responsible for, and trusting that God is in control even of the suffering that comes.

OK, I’m a fan now after reading this 6 book series. I do enjoy her writing and story telling, especially how she inserts appropriate Bible verses where they are needed to encourage a character when they need it the most. I like historical fiction as a category, and with these books, I liked how the story, characters and events seem historically accurate, which I attribute to good research. I’m off to another of her book series now that I’ve been hooked!

I was so excited to finally read this book after pre-ordering and waiting for it to drop to my kindle! Once I started it I couldn’t put it down. I find it fascinating thinking about how things looked in Alaska before it was a state and how hard the people must have had to work. I really enjoyed the whole Amos family story, but was excited to see how Alexei’s story ended. Will he continue to pursue a relationship with Laurel, or will he end up with Clarise, even though she jilted him 12 years before? I also like how the Scripture verses are woven in to the stories. Great writing!

Really Enjoyed This Series
I've really enjoyed this series and hate to see it end. The bond between these siblings was wonderful to watch. It was great to see each of them find love but it was especially good to see Alexei and Clarise get their HEA after 12 years. Alexei had given up so much to support his family and is such a caring person. I'd love to see more books about Alaska and this family.

I have loved learning about the Alaskan wilderness and history through this series of books. Interesting and well written story.
I have really enjoyed following this family as they grow in their faith and their love for family and their beloved culture and lands of Alaska.
Thank you Naomi Rawlings for writing this beautiful series and introducing us to the Amos family.

Sad for the end of this series…
I loved this series so much, so great following this family and all the things Alaska! I really liked all the references to how God’s grace and redemption was important to remember, especially all the biblical references. I’m just sad to see the series end cause you get so vested in the lives of the characters. Another amazing series by Naomi Rawlings!

I loved this book. As with all the books in this series, Naomi has done an excellent job of researching facts for the time period and area she was writing this book in.
Once you start reading you will not want to put it down, 1 chapter can turn into 4 very easily.
I highly recommend this and any of Naomi’s books.

Brilliant Writing
Another exciting and wonderful adventure.
Naomi knows how to describe each scene vividly so you become completely lost in the story.
She weaves a beautiful story with scripture and characters who have moral values. The story is not only entertaining, but it inspires you to be a better person.
I cant wait for the next adventure!

Entrancing Story
This story featuring Alexi as governor of Alaska along with his family will grab your interest from page one! Will he finally forgive and be reunited with Clarice who has returned to Alaska with her children. Problems ensue from that moment. You’ll love the suspense.and each one finally yielding to Gods will in their lives for happiness!

Better with Every Book!
I've read all of Naomi Rawlings books and, though they've all been wonderfully written, I've also watched her talent develop over the years. Clean Christian storyline with scripture supporting the characters. I cannot wait to begin the next series with her! I love the era she sets her stories in and I love how authentic they are!

From England with gratitude.
My favourite author, her book series have each been compelling. Her Dawn of Alaska series has been so entertaining and informative. I feel as if I have visited Alaska. Her characters are so real and her biblical references enhance each story. I look forward to her next series and spending time in Texas.

Review of advance copy received from Author
I loved everything about this story! Great characters and a plot that kept me wondering what would happen. There is never a slow or dull moment in the story. Entertaining from beginning to end. Out of this series Beyond the Dawn is my favorite.

Must read!
I loved this whole series! Definitely recommend it! If this is the first book you’ve read go back and read the others because it’s definitely worth it and you’ll fall in love with the whole family even more!

Alexei's Ending
Didn't enjoy this book as much as the other ones. This character who seemed strong in the other books appeared weak and confused in this one. The ending was disappointing.

I love each of Naomi Rawlings characters. They come to life on each page. I'm excited that God is included in every book she writes! Thank you! I can't wait for the next series.
