FBI agent Olivia Knight moved to the charming town of Belle Grove. A place hidden by lush greenery and away from the hustle of big-city living. She never imagined she would meet her match in her FBI partner, Brock. Now newly engaged and searching for the perfect home. Her ordinary life feels extraordinary, far from the troubles of the past.
When Violet Sawyer goes missing from a psychiatric hospital. Olivia and Brock are called to the strange town of Millstone Creek. In town, they are surprised by the stark contrast between the two sides of Millstone. And upon arrival at the mental hospital, they are greeted by a charismatic doctor. A doctor who may be hiding more than he cares to let on.
The hospital appears to be in a state of chaos. With patients being treated in horrible conditions.
How is the hospital still in operation?
Soon it becomes clear that the town, from the mayor to the nurses, is flush with corruption. As the clues to the case lead Olivia on a trail of strange deaths and cruelty.
It seems what happened to Violet Sawyer is just the tip of the iceberg.
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
The timing of this book is unreal. You would think reading about 62 million views of a website where men share how to sedate and rape women would be the fictional book and not real life. The only difference is in the fictional book everyone involved is identified and prosecuted or killed.
This book tore me up, made me sick to my stomach and had me crying. 😭 There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for my daughter!
What a well-put-together book. This was crafted with a strong, intricate storyline that drew me in (as I'm sure it will others), keeping one informed with enough information to keep you involved in trying to figure out all the connections. The characters are solid, and they interact well as both FBI partners and life partners. I do plan on reading the rest of this series.
Had me guessing at every turn.Olivia Knight & Brock Tanner, partners on the job with 5he FBI but, also partners in everyday was. They live upstairs from the diner they love and are looking for a house to live in. They are called into a case where a patient , Violet in a Psychiatric hospital has disappeared, her mother, Linda, has disappeared, her girlfriend , June, has disappeared. After a few days in W. VA. They realize something is wrong with the hospital. Speaking with both the head doctor and head nurse many discrepancies unfold. They all drive upscale cars, BMW’s, Audi’s, Teslas but the hospital is filthy and the patients move around like zombie so filled with drugs. Morgan, the missing girl’s roommate ,is comatose and Olivia has her sent to the nearest hospital. The doctor calls Olivia and said the drugs in Morgan’s system were normally used in operating rooms not psychiatric hospitals. And so begins the tale, twists and turns, some surprises and some not so. Terrific ending. Good read!
I read all of Elle Gray's series and truly enjoy them. She'll probably never win a Pulitzer but her writing does what it should, entertains, and that's what's important. I'll point out one faux pas in the book. The maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter in West Virginia is 15 years with a minimum of 3 years served before being eligible for parole. 15 years is also the maximum under federal guidelines. In the book Linda Sawyer was sentenced to 20 years to life for that crime. A simple Google search would have avoided that error.
I think it is great that the book shined a light onto mental health and she also tied it to the right to control what's done to your body even as a mental health patient.
She also shed light on how power, depravity, lack of respect for women and greed can corrupt a system designed to help the weakest among us.
The men all said they were helping the women and therefore justified their actions.
I could not put this book down. I read until I fell asleep with it open. I awakened, poured myself a huge cup of coffee, and didn't put it down until I finished it.
Brock and Olivia are always going above and beyond, but this non-stop triple blockbuster is better than all before it.
This is one of the most exciting books I've read in a while.. From the beginning you are, super involved in what's going on with characters. The story is so sad and shocking, that you will be hoping that Brock and Olivia solve it quickly.
This was a exciting story about Olivia and Brock going all out to find answers what is going on at a hospital with things that are unbelievable and trying to to correct the wrong that have been done with lots of suspense and action and finding the lost patient. Thank you for this awesome story.
This book had everything! There was suspense, murder and mayhem. I loved it. It kept my attention throughout. How very sad that things like this are, and have probably continued to happen. It was very well written.
I could not put this book down! This was my first book by this author and it did not disappoint! I absolutely love the characters. I relate to Brock so much (his sense of humor and whit). Towards the end though, I did predict who the killer was but the story itself was a great buildup.
This book continued the Agent's lives and work. What a disturbing and complicated story. So well-written and I stayed up for hours reading it. I look forward to their next case and their continued life & love!
This read had so many twist and turns nothing short of a Elle Gray Novel. I love the way she is able to pull you in that you never want to stop reading. This book as all her books did not disappoint. It kept you guessing and wanting more. Thank you Elle Gray.
The overall story was good but I felt like I was just reading a report. There was the mystery portion of the book but no suspense to keep interest up & keep reading. I usually like her books but not so much this one.
There are several stories mixed into 1. It's a great book And kept you at the edge of your seat not knowing what was going to happen and what was going to be uncovered next. Can't wait for the next book to come out. Excellent read.
A deplorable ental institution with so many secrets. It's hard to believe but I know there are horrible going on we must do all we can to make others life's better. See Something --Do
This series has kept me wanting to read the next one. They are all slightly different to keep me interested. The plots are situations that can be real.
Brilliant story. Best one yet, literally could not stop reading until it finished. Confronting but so well written. Gave me a whole range of feels. Some good, bad, sad, horrified.
Another awesome book from Elle Gray. There were some twists and turns I didn’t see coming, but as always the ending didn’t disappoint. Now (patiently?) waiting on #21 - Fatal Deception. 📚❤️
I didn't want to quit reading! All the twists and suspense! One of my favorite Olivia Knight Mysteries! Can't wait to read book 21 for more Brock and Olivia adventures!
This book was a fantastic read. It held my attention until the very end! Can't wait to read what's next for Olivia and Brock. Maybe wedding bells?? Kids??
These books are the very best in their genre. Always takes me to the scene makes me part of the action. When I pick up Gray book I know I'm going on an adventure
