ITF - When Heaven Drew Close: Inspire the Fire - December 2025

When Heaven Drew CloseThere’s something about December that makes everything feel a little louder, isn’t there? The calendar fills up. The to-do lists stack high—programs, parties, presents, deadlines. We’re wrapping gifts, wrapping up the year, and trying not to come unwrapped in the process. And right in the middle of all that noise, we’re invited to remember a quiet, holy night where Heaven drew close.

Christmas is not just a beautiful story we revisit once a year. It’s the moment everything changed. The God who spoke galaxies into being stepped into our timeline as a baby—small, vulnerable, and yet carrying the weight of salvation in His very name. “And they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

I love God with us. Not God far off. Not God watching from a distance. God with us. With us in the grief we didn’t see coming this year. With us in the victories we’re still trying to take in. With us in the questions that didn’t get answered and the prayers that haven’t been tied up with a neat little bow. If you’re anything like me, you can look back over the past eleven months and see a mix of “I’m so thankful” and “I’m still healing.” We carry both—and God is not afraid of either.

Christmas is His reminder that He stepped into the mess on purpose. The manger wasn’t glamorous. Straw is itchy. Stables smell like animals, not cinnamon and pine. And yet Jesus came there—not into perfection, but into reality. That gives me so much hope, because it means He’s not waiting for my life to look Instagram-ready before He shows up. He comes right into the middle of the ordinary and the overwhelming and whispers, “I’m here.”

This month, as lights go up in our homes and across our cities, I can’t help but think of another “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:5) Jesus didn’t just bring light; He is the Light. And wherever He is welcomed, darkness loses its claim.

Maybe this year didn’t look like you expected. Maybe some dreams were delayed, some prayers answered differently than you hoped. Can I remind you? The story isn’t over yet. The same God who sent Jesus at just the right time knows exactly what He’s doing in your timeline too.

As we celebrate Christmas, my prayer is that you won’t just know the story of the manger—you’ll feel the reality of Immanuel in your own life. That in between the carols and the candles, you’ll sense the steady presence of the One who came, who died, who rose, and who is coming again.

From my heart to May this December be more than busy—may it be beautifully holy. May your home be filled with laughter, your heart steadied by peace, and your days marked by the awareness that you are deeply loved by God. He’s with you—always.
