Arlo picked the worst choices known to man, and it was so insufferable to be in his mind the whole time. As a CM3 fan, I was super disappointed with this new release and with the end note because who is that for? Your haters? Trust me, if you had haters, they wouldn't be taking the time to read this from cover to cover.

A lot of his decisions didn't make any sense, and most of the book is about him pitying himself. Like none of the choices felt like him and just felt like stepping stones for the intended plot to continue; even he was like, “Why did I choose that? I'm so sad and ugly.”

I'm over here wondering the same thing!!!! Now that just takes you out of the story big time.

This new book from CMIII is definitely an intense page turner. It arrived in the mail today, and an hour and a half later I have finished it.

I absolutely LOVE this one (and if you see my prior reviews for my Mellick full read marathon this year, I’m not always the kindest to his works).

The premise is simple, think SAW meets one of the many terrible reality game shows we have these days, and you got the idea behind this book. The title IS the name of the game, so most can guess what it is about. What can’t be predicted is who gets picked for what, or how, or what happens when the game ends…there is still a lot of story left after the game ends.

I can say this has a very dark ending, and goes places I didn’t see coming. This is fantastic. I recommend this book to any CMIII fans, but also to people who just want to read something that is a mean ride (this book is far from being as weird as his other works…it’s a straight forward dark thriller more than anything, no Haunted Vajays here).

Usually I put my favorite quotes at the end, but at this time I’ll save that for when I come back around and read this one again for my marathon.

Buy it, read it, love it.

CM3 was my introduction to bizarro. I’ve dabbled in other authors in the genre, but Mellick is still my favorite. What sets him apart for me is that his writing isn’t wild just for the sake of it. There’s always something so sweet at the core. This was no different. He said it best: shit-painted gold.

Premise was great. And I like Mellick’s insight into the mind of the main character. But the pace was a bit jumbled, the story seemed to meander, and the ending was a little slapdash. Not my favorite Mellick, just somewhere in the middle.

ÌVe been following Carlton Mellick III for quite a long time. This is not his best work, but it is thoroughly satisfying. It is a book that reads somewhat like a crime story. There is very little Bizarro content. The novel is engaging and keeps going to a new conclusion just when you thought it was over.

Four people awaken in a strange place. There are four women and a man—the person who is relating the story. In a most insidious manner they learn that they are contestants in a sort of game show. The object is for the man to decide which of the women he will either kiss, fuck, marry or kill. He has to select from the four other contestants as to who he will assign these tasks. Our protagonist, Arlo, is a very moral man, but has to make decisions knowing that if he doesn’t, all five of them will immediately be murdered.
