Along with Muhammad Ali, Pelé was the best-known sportsman of the 20th century. The numbers speak for he was only 17 when he played for Brazil in the 1958 World Cup finals, scoring six goals in their last three games; he was the only player to have won the World Cup three times; and across his career he scored a record-breaking number of goals, estimated at over 1,200.
