Set in the Reacher universe by permission of Lee Child. They took him for money. She sent someone for blood.
When the bass player for one of the biggest bands in the world vanishes on a dark road in West Virginia, his wife doesn't call the police.
She calls Dave O'Donnell.
Cliff Rudd was weeks away from finishing a sold-out national tour. He'd been sober for nearly two years. He drove himself from city to city, alone, to stay clean. He called his wife every night.
Then the calls stopped.
His silver Cadillac is found abandoned on a dirt road in the mountains. No sign of a struggle. No sign of Cliff.
The gas station clerk at the nearest crossroads says he didn't see a thing.
He's lying.
O'Donnell was one of Jack Reacher’s Special Investigators, now he’s turned private investigator. The kind of man you call when the situation has gone past what polite society can handle.
WITHOUT WARNING is classic Dan fast-paced, action-packed, and relentless from the first page to the last.
For fans of Lee Child, David Baldacci, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, and Mark Greaney.

I have been a big fan of Don Ames for over 25-years, but this past week I’ve become very disillusioned by his writings. I just finished reading two recently released books in 2 different series. I’ve already reviewed the first & now I’m reviewing the second.
“Without Warning” was a well-written ‘whodunit’ in the Jack Reacher universe. The Protagonist was one of Reacher’s MPs from the 110th Military Police Company. However, there is no way a book of less than 120 pages can be considered a ‘novel’.
“Without Warning” has an excellent premise (a wealthy country music bass player) who disappears on his way to his band’s next gig. Unfortunately, the plot & subplots are never fully developed and left me feeling cheated, especially since I anticipated I’d be reading another great Dan Ames novel. I didn’t…
I always pass on my recommendations for great fiction & non-fiction books to family & friends. Instead, I am going to warn them about authors who keep raising the prices for their books while short-changing us on story contact.
Wow, what a great fast paced story. Without Warning by Dan Ames starts with what appears to be a domestic dispute but turns very serious quickly. Who do you call when your husband goes missing? Well, you can always try one of Reacher's former special investigators. In this book it's Dave O'Donnell that gets the call. He goes on a roadtrip trying to find out what happened and how Cliff Rudds car is left abandoned on a side road in West Virginia. Little does he know what he is up against, but he sure is ready for it. I must say I would like more O'Donnell stories. Ames shows once again how good he is at writing a short story. I love it. I do recommend this series and author.
Really enjoy these Special Investigator stories. When a famous bass player disappears in West Virginia on his way to a gig with the rest of the band, his wife fears that the world will assume that, since he is a former drug addict, he had re-succombed to the lure of drugs and will not be found. She knows that he did not and hires Dave O’Donnell to find him. Dave O’Donnell manages to follow the route he took and runs into what appear to be unbelievable circumstances that do not make sense. His car is there, he is not, and no one knows anything. Another exciting story that is fast paced and thrilling. Looking forward to the next.
Kettle Falls is hiding a secret and a big mistake was made when the bass player for a well-known band disappears there. Because what they didn't count on was Cliff's wife calling on a private investigator to look into his disappearance. And Dave O'Donnell has extensive experience as an investigator and won't stop until he finds Cliff.
This is a fast-paced read with plenty of action toward the end. There is a reluctance of the citizens to help Dave out, but he has other ways of getting information. In the end, good triumphs over evil.
When musician Cliff Rudd vanishes while on tour, former Reacher's Special Investigator, now a PI, Dave O'Donnell is hired by his wife Mackenzie. What he finds turns into a race against time, to save the star from torture and death.
Without Warning by Dan Ames is a nerve-tingling, all-action thriller that though short is intense...I found myself gripped firmly and enjoyably by the imagination throughout.
Great characters, a believable storyline and a dynamic denouement - this book's got it all. Don't wait to grab a copy right now!
An excellent investigative novella with a well written storyline and a strong main character. PI Dave pulls out all stops to resolve a kidnapped bass player. Fast paced, action packed, and a page turning enjoyable read. Highly recommended story by an outstanding author. Bring on more adventures with PI Dave.
Good book. I have enjoyed reading all the Special Investigator books. Lots of action and the bad guys pay for being bad. Good for you, Dave. I look forward to the next book.
The Jack Reacher Special Investigators in every single book published to date delighted all and sundry with back tingling plots and the toughest operators imaginable. In Without Warning by Dan Ames we get introduced to a brand new special investigator, Dave O'Donnell investigating the disappearance of a famous bass guitarist. And mayhem followed. Phew. Enjoy.
