**ARC Review**
Try & Resist by Meghan Hollie
Out now - Free on Kindle Unlimited

One thing about me, I am going to read about women kicking ass in male dominated fields! (in this case, professional rugby.)

I ate up the rivals to lovers energy between Teddy & Connor! I am such a sucker for when they are former school "rivals" with that tension that is so clearly an untapped attraction!
Another thing I eat up? Men who lift up and promote women!

Connor, with his Irish-American lilt, his rugby thighs, and his heart of gold had me like 🫠😍
Teddy is a total Baddie & I'd have a crush on her too! 🤭

The banter & tension were great, and the overall girl power of the whole thing is exactly the energy I'm looking for in this world. I mean, HE WEARS HER JERSEY! If that's not a top-tier microtrope, I don't know what is. If you love Face Off by Chelsea Curto, you need to read this book! Connor and Teddy are very Maverick & Emmy coded.

I can't wait to read book 2!

4.5⭐ 2.5🌶️

What happens when your rugby pitch is destroyed and your only option is to train with the brand new female team?

Well Connor and Teddy are going to find out the hard way 😅

These two are fiery rivals with banter and tension thickening with every meeting.

I loved that Connor let his guard down and truly made a point to understand the struggles of Teddy being in a female sport then provide support the best way he could.

Teddy is FIERCE! I loved her drive, control and tenacity in a male dominated world. She could chew up these men and spit them out for breakfast - fantastic FMC vibes.

When these two finally let the walls crumble, that tension explodes into insane chemistry!

I loved the little bubble they had of secrecy, but how they also reassure each other they didn’t want it to be that way forever.

This is my first book from this author and I really enjoyed it!

Thank you to House of Hearts for this ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!

I freaking love Teddy & Connor!

What was once a ex rival banter back in college, may not have actually been all the much hatred really. Now has turned into a little bit more. Now forced together to share a pitch as captains for the men and women rugby teams, Teddy and Connor are pushed together to lead their teams.

I loved every second of this. & how supportive Connor was of Teddy and saw the issue for women in sports and what a badass Teddy was. Girl crush. Connor and his rugby thighs, a little Irish accent in there, he wears her jersey, and man can EAT 😝🤣

All the girls on the team were so fun, and some bad ass ladies at that. I also died laughing at Nate & Jake, so I’m happy to see Jake is up next. 🤣👏🏼

What a story

What an amazing and inspirational story. Not only is this book hot I mean rugby thighs for the win!! But it is also a love story to women in sport and how we all need to take up more space and stand up for what we believe and fight for what we want.

Teddy and Connor are the ultimate power couple. Meghan has an unparalleled way of writing the most swoony men and she has out done her self with Connor. That man is a dirty talking golden retriever and I was hooked on him from the very beginning.

Teddy us such an inspirational character. She is so strong but I loved how she finally let Connor in and let him stand with her.

I am totally obsessed with this new world and I can't wait for more books in this series.

“Something I thought was fueled by hate suddenly felt a lot like a blurred line. Which was the problem.”

Try & Resist is the start of a new series, The Coastal Try Series, and I am hooked! Teddy and Connor have been rivals since college and seeing the two forced into sharing a rugby pitch no as professionals was so fun ! The tension between these two was so thick and made for a perfect enemies to lovers.

“Teddy Sloane had started a fire within me, and I didn’t just mean because she’s hot. There’s more. So much more to her.”

I cannot wait for more of this series !

🔥: “Keep your hands there, I want to feel you holding on.”

I’m not a sports romance girlie but something about this book dove so much deeper. It touched on hurt, being afraid to be vulnerable, pushing others away because that’s what you are used to. It spoke to me in a way a book hadn’t in a while. Maybe it’s because I saw myself in Teddy. In her striving to be perfect and change the world for women. In her family struggles.

I can’t recommend this book enough.

Teddy and Connor were great. I loved this rugby romance. Both were team captains. I loved the way they connected. It was great that they both had a love for the same sport as well. These two were really sweet. Their connection was awesome. I really enjoyed reading this. I was so easily pulled in and didn’t want to put it down until I was finished.

What a start to a new series this is! Again, I know I'm very lucky but I beta read this a while ago and loved it then. And still love it.
Teddy and Connor are great. Their banter is spot on and despite it all, Teddy overcame her fears and went for it. I loved that for her. Although I've got to say I did resonate with Teddy in more ways than one.
Looking forward to more in this series.

As a massive rugby fan and someone who’s been devouring sports romance this year, this book was practically made for me, especially with its irresistible blend of enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity tropes. I dove in expecting a light, fun read, but what I got was so much more. The story goes beyond the surface with well-developed characters, real emotional stakes, and a plot that kept me engaged from start to finish. The chemistry between the leads is electric, with witty banter and tension that builds beautifully over the course of the book. I loved the way the author explored the pressures of professional sports, the vulnerability behind tough exteriors, and the slow-burn development of trust and intimacy. I genuinely didn’t know what to expect, but I was blown away by how much depth and heart this book delivered. I ended up loving it!

Teddy, the FMC, is truly a force to be reckoned with. Ambitious and fiercely goal-oriented, she strives not just for personal success but to uplift everyone around her. As the captain of the Valkyries rugby team, Teddy is a trailblazer, paving the way for future generations of female players and leading her team to victory on and off the field. Her journey is marked by grit; she’s had to continually fight and prove herself in a male-dominated sport, facing scepticism and barriers at every turn simply because she’s a woman. With her mother passing away shortly after Teddy’s birth and her father frequently deployed, she’s learned to rely on herself, her nanny being the only constant in her life. Teddy’s life is built on structure and discipline; she’s crafted a meticulous plan and routine, rarely wavering from it. While some see this as controlling, it’s really a testament to her determination and self-awareness: she knows what she wants and how to get there, refusing to let anyone or anything distract her from her goals. Yet as the story unfolds, we watch Teddy gradually let her guard down. Her growth is subtle but powerful: she learns that she doesn’t have to shoulder every burden alone. The narrative beautifully explores her realisation that trusting others can be a source of strength rather than weakness. Teddy’s fight isn’t just for her own dreams; she becomes a symbol for all female athletes, championing their right to have a seat at the table and inspiring those who come after her.

Connor, captain of the Knights, has rugby in his blood; his grandfather once played for Ireland, and carrying on the family legacy has always been his driving force. The golden boy of the sport, Connor’s been handed every opportunity and is determined to make his family proud. But when disaster strikes California and a hurricane destroys his team’s stadium, the Knights face a difficult choice: forfeit the season or share the Valkyries’ training ground. What should be a simple solution is complicated by the deep-seated rivalry between Connor and Teddy, one that’s been simmering since their college days as they constantly competed to outdo each other. Connor is a compelling male lead, supportive, sexy, and utterly charming, especially when it comes to Teddy. At first, he doesn’t fully grasp the challenges Teddy and her fellow female athletes endure, but as he learns the extent of their struggles, he becomes a true ally. Watching him shift from competitor to advocate is heartwarming; he goes out of his way to show his support for Teddy, and it’s genuinely touching. Meanwhile, Connor’s personal journey runs in parallel; he faces his own struggles and comes to understand that, in the end, he must make choices that are right for him, stepping out from under the shadow of expectation and forging his own happiness.

There were so many things I loved about this story, but the side characters, especially the best friends, truly stood out. Their witty banter and comedic timing added a whole new layer of enjoyment, balancing out the tension and high stakes with moments of genuine levity. The author did an incredible job of fleshing out these supporting players, making them feel just as real and essential as the main couple. Another highlight was the strong thread of female empowerment woven throughout the novel. It was both refreshing and inspiring to read a sports romance that centres female athletes, delving deeply into their challenges, the constant need to prove themselves, and the systemic barriers they face even in 2026. Meghan, thank you for shining a spotlight on these issues and for crafting female characters who are not only resilient but also supportive of one another.

I also deeply appreciated the slow-burn romance between the main characters. Their relationship developed organically, moving from sharp-tongued rivals to passionate lovers in a way that felt authentic and earned. The pacing allowed for real emotional growth, and when the sparks finally flew, it was as satisfying as it was believable.

I received an advanced copy of this book, and all opinions are entirely my own. Huge thanks to House of Hearts Lit and author Meghan Hollie for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

I was able to read this book ahead of its release date thanks to House of Hearts Literary Services and the author.

Spice rating: 2.5

I would recommend this book to someone looking for a rugby romance and a dislike to lovers trope.

I'm going to be upfront and say that this book missed the mark for me. There were things I really liked and things that left me either wanting more or wanting it to be different. It took me way longer to finish the book than necessary because the story didn't grab me enough to make me want to keep reading it.

The positive parts. There is actual rugby in this rugby romance. A lot of the book takes place on the pitch or in the stadium. Almost all the events that the characters attend are connected to rugby in some way. The author highlights both Connor and Teddy’s matches.
It's rugby so there are lots of team mates and we get a little glimpse into a couple of them with a good amount of interacting with the MCs and setting up for future books. Jake was probably my favorite character. Looking forward to his book.
The author added a twist to the “my number, my name” trope and made Connor the one to wear Teddy’s number and name on his back. Which I absolutely loved.

Now on to the parts that led me to not being completely into the story. While I liked Connor’s story from trying to fulfill his family legacy to figuring out what he wants his legacy to be by this point he was giving me savior vibes. It felt like he was constantly standing up or saving Teddy from situations. Don't get me wrong I love an ally but it was too much. I think she stands up for herself once when talking about women's sports.
Which leads me to Teddy. Part of me wishes she was written differently. Which is 100% a personal preference. I was a little disappointed that she ended up being written with abandonment issues, daddy issues and confined to her role as captain. It gave off, women can't be strong and successful in male dominated fields without having issues in their social life or personal life. Meanwhile, Connor is a great and successful captain and has a healthy and happy family, social life and somehow makes the greatest impact in the future of women's rugby in the story.

There was also something missing in the romance aspect of the story for me. It felt like there wasn't enough dialogue or moments between Connor and Teddy leading up to the shift from former academic rivals/dislike on Teddy’s end to lovers. He literally did two nice things and she is folding like a chair for him. There also wasn't enough on page moments for me to buy into their connection being more than physical. I think at one point Connor even says he knows nothing about her life. The story line with Teddy’s dad was a good add on and it opened up an opportunity for Teddy and Connor to show a deeper connection and one that wasn’t ruby adjacent. Most of the time they gave me good friends that admire each others contribution to the sport.

There are spicy scenes and honestly I wasn't sure what direction the author was going with them. There would be quick nods to maybe a very dominant Connor but nothing would come of it. Then Teddy would step up and take control but nothing would really progress. Honestly, if they had a bit of dominant and surrendering dynamic in the bedroom that would have been an improvement and gone well with their characters. There were a couple spicy scenes that I did like so it wasn't a total miss. I do appreciate a pierced MC so that was a positive.

Overall, this book wasn't for me. There were parts I really liked but what I didn't like outweighed the positives.

I would like to begin my review with thanking House of Hearts Lit and Meghan Hollie for allowing me to receive an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Okay, lets get started. Although my review is 4 stars, it was not that for awhile, this book had to work its way to 4 stars with me. For me personally the first fourth of this book made me want to DNF it, it was slow, while also being extremely fast with meeting very strong personalities. I almost couldn't keep up. I did not love the build up in this book and found myself lost a few times, for me there wasn't really anything to grab my attention and keep it. Well...... did that seriously change. I remember thinking about not finishing this book and just move onto my next, I decided to give it to the 40% through mark. By 40% (which I know is awhile), I saw a whole new story that I wanted to invest my time into.

At this point in the book, I was sucked in. I couldn't put it down to the point where I fell asleep every night the past few nights while still reading. We got in depth chapters with Teddy, which during we really got a more clear background on who she is and why she acts the way she does. That's just on the emotional side of things with Connor. Teddy in herself is a complete beast, in the best way possible. She is strong, independent and such a powerhouse. I hold a lot of respect for this character. To continue to show up for her team day after day after all the crap female players, especially the leaders for those teams, have to go through is nothing short of amazing. She can give just as much as she can take and I loved watching the sassy side of her come out whenever she went head to head with Connor. Now on to Captain of the Knights. We saw the side of Connor that everybody else got to see except for Teddy. She eventually saw it of course and then we got to see a whole new depth to him as well. The character building of this one man was really refreshing to read. Not only did he give this woman her space while also being there, he truly listened and quickly realized how much harder it is for female athletes to be at the same level and league he is at. Not only to realize that but then to do something about it to help in future generations, that was admiring. I love the building of realizing that living up to his grandfathers legacy doesn't mean, going to play for Ireland and moving away from what you love. It means making a difference in a positive light in the sport they both loved so much.

This part now needs a whole paragraph of its own. THE SPICE... It was pretty top tier in my personal opinion, i didn't find anything during those scenes that i found cringy which can be hard with everybody's different writing styles. I devoured those chapters and those scenes and let me tell you , they were nothing short of amazing.

All that to say overall this book was definitely worth the wait and should be read. I promise you it is and was worth the wait to get to the good stuff. For me it was just a little too much before the good stuff hence the 4 out of 5 rather than 5!

I am absolutely loving the increase of books that feature women in sports. Women in roles that used to be male focused and in sports that males normally dominate. Meghan Hollie has given us an amazing FMC within book 1 in her Coastal Try series, Try and Resist. This story was a joy to read and provided epic moments of girl power and women have arrived. At the same time, we have a MMC who is confident enough to celebrate a woman doing things better and showing her unconditional support. I hope this trend continues to climb and we see more and more women in the roles that used to be reserved for just male characters.

Teddy is determined, focused, and driven in taking her rugby career to heights never achieved by a woman before. She has a plan and routine and never waivers. Some people can see this as controlling, however, I can appreciate her knowing what she needed to do and sticking to the plan. She wasn’t going to let anyone distract her. Yet as the story continues, you begin to see her relax a bit. She still is determined, but understands she doesn’t have to achieve her dreams alone. She is not only fighting for her own dreams, but she fights for all female athletes to have a place at the table.

Connor is head over heels about Teddy. Playing the same sport, he fully understands the hard work that goes into thriving in rugby. He never once tries to put them on the same level. He knows the women in his league have had to fight harder every step of the way. Rugby is in his blood and a legacy his family has created, so he does struggle with his own things, but never thinks he is above anyone else. He loves to get under Teddy’s skin, but because of the attention she shows him.

Meghan put so much thought into this story. The amount of information we get to read about Rugby proves that Meghan didn’t just want to write another sports romance. She wanted to provide readers with an inside and in depth look at what athletes go through to dominate this sport. She includes so many details to what the athletes go through that the story paints a full blown picture of the life of pro athletes. I cannot wait for more in this series and am excited to get to know other characters!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Try & Resist was my first book by this author and my first ever rugby book. With all the hockey and football books out there we barely see books about other sports so when I saw the blurb for Try & Resist I was intrigued. Not only was I pulled in by the fact it was a rugby story (which the sport is new to me), but the storyline sounded amazing. A strong FMC who is facing the struggles of a male dominated sport. Add to that it’s a love story, swoon.

Connor is a strong MMC. He is supportive, sexy, charming, and all about Teddy. He doesn’t understand at first the full extent of what she and other female athletes go through but once he realizes, he is an advocate and does what he can to show his support and it’s the sweetest thing. He does all of this while also going through his own personal struggles, understanding that his decisions are his own and he needs to do what makes him happy.

Teddy had to grow on me. I will be honest. She was too Type A for me and it was almost like her anal retentive ways made her whiny. She did mellow out and I don’t know if it was Connor or her character finally taking a breather, but at first, I didn’t like her. That’s a me problem though and no stars are being deducted from this review. She is a strong badass FMC. She fights for female athletes, women in general and every little girl needs a role model like her. She is the definition of women paving the way and I was here for it all damn day!

Teddy and Connor were the unstoppable duo! I loved them and their story. I loved what they built together.

Something else I really loved about this that you don’t always get with other sports romance books, the sports. The author actually took the time to write in the sports aspect. We got the read about their training and practices, their matches, their sponsors and events, the things that athletes have to do. It wasn’t classified as a sports romance because they were on a rugby team and it mentioned rugby, their sponsors book actually talked about and consisted of rugby.

I’m hoping we get a best friend’s sister forbidden romance trope next with Jake and Nate’s sister 😉🤭

Great book, I will be recommending it!

This review is based upon my own thoughts and opinions. Thank you to the author for my ARC, in exchange for my honest review.

I’m actually obsessed with this book 😭🏉✨

Try & Resist gave me EVERYTHING I want in a sports romance!!!
Tension, banter, forced proximity, emotional damage, and two insanely competitive captains trying so hard not to fall for each other while very obviously falling for each other.

Connor and Teddy??? Oh, they were STRESSING me out in the best way possible.

The chemistry between them was immediate. Every conversation felt like a challenge. Every argument had so much tension behind it that I was literally sitting there like “just kiss already omg.” But what I loved most was that their relationship never felt shallow. Under all the rivalry and stubbornness, there’s so much respect between them, and that made every softer moment hit even harder.

And Teddy Sloane?? SHE is the moment. I loved her so much. She’s strong, ambitious, exhausted, and determined; constantly having to prove herself in a sport that barely makes space for women in the first place. Her frustration felt so real. The book doesn’t shy away from how unfair things are for female athletes, and honestly, that made me love Teddy even more because she keeps fighting anyway.

Connor completely won me over, too. He could’ve easily been written as this arrogant golden-boy athlete, but instead, he’s supportive, emotionally mature, and genuinely listens once he starts understanding what Teddy deals with. The man literally wears her jersey 😭 like sorry that’s elite behaviour.

Also, can we PLEASE talk about the forced proximity setup because sharing a stadium with your rival/ex-rival/crush while trying to act professional??? Absolute gold. Every practice, every hallway interaction, every tiny moment together felt charged.

And the rugby aspect actually felt REAL. The sport mattered here. The training, pressure, team dynamics, and media attention...it all added so much depth to the story. This wasn’t one of those romances where the sport is just there for aesthetic purposes.

The banter was amazing, the emotional moments genuinely landed, and the slow burn had me suffering the entire time in the best way possible 🫠

Honestly, this book felt empowering, emotional, fun, and ridiculously addictive all at once. If you love rivals-to-lovers, women in sports, grumpy/sunshine vibes, and MMCs who absolutely worship strong women, you need this immediately.

Easy 5 stars for me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tropes 🤍
Rugby Romance
Grumpy/Sunshine
Captain x Captian
Ex Rivals

This book was everything. I am so honored to have been able to have been involved in receiving this amazing gift from Meghan and the team 🩷

This story embodies woman empowerment in sports and how you can fall in love and still dream the biggest of dreams and accomplish it 🩷 this book is about Connor and Teddy they are both the captains of there rugby teams and when an unfortunate event of an earthquake they are forced to share the stadium which does not make one of the capitans too happy. Teddy is the Captain of the Valkyries Women Team and Connor is the Captain of the Knights. The tension that is brewing to the two you could tell that this is more than rivalry but want and need.
Teddy Is strong willed determine to fight until the end for her team and for herself. She is someone who has had to be strong because underneath it all she has a soft heart and is scared to be vulnerable with anyone . however as time progress and Connor sees that there is more to Teddy than what meets the eye he works in not only gaining her trust be truly seeing her and loving her for who she is.

Connor is caring and loving but he has a mouth on him that will make you fall at your knees. He truly was a supportive ma but he also wanted to see her win and succeed he took moments and allowed her to say how she thought and felt with no judgment. He respected her not just as a woman or just as a rival but as someone he loved and cared for . Connor stole my heart in all the ways 🩷 He cheers her on silently loudly and proudly and we all need a Connor O Riley in our lives .

This book was written in such a beautiful way and when I say that this book was so we could all be seen I mean it I can’t put into words how much I loved being able to read this and to enjoy every moment of Teddy and Connor . Meghan this was everything! This was 5 star read for me and I can’t wait for what’s next!!

Quotes

“It’d be dishonest to pretend I didn’t notice you, Teddy.”

“I’m not alright with him flirting with you. He doesn’t get to look at you like that.”

“I don’t want you to feel like we’re a secret. I lo—like being around you a lot, but I don’t want you to do anything you aren’t ready for.”

“Do I really have that much power to get you addicted and obsessed, Connor O’Riley?”

. “You’ve had that power for a while.”

THIS BOOK. Holy hell. I went in expecting a fun sports romance and came out emotionally body checked into the turf 😭🏉✨

Connor and Teddy are the kind of enemies-to-lovers pairing that had me grinning like an idiot one second and clutching my chest the next. The tension between them??? Absolutely volcanic. Every argument felt like foreplay and every tiny moment of vulnerability hit ten times harder because these two are so stubborn and prideful and secretly soft underneath all the armour.

Teddy Sloane owned this book for me. I loved how fierce and exhausted and determined she was after spending her whole career fighting for scraps while the men’s teams got everything handed to them. Her frustration felt so real. And Connor was not some perfect golden boy either. He was stressed, overwhelmed, trying to hold his team together after the earthquake destroyed everything, and watching him slowly realise how much Teddy carries on her shoulders was SO satisfying.

The banter?? Elite. The chemistry?? Illegal. The emotional payoff?? I actually had to put my kindle down and stare at the wall for a minute because my heart couldn’t cope 🫠

And the rugby atmosphere was incredible. You could FEEL the chaos, pressure, competitiveness and team loyalty in every chapter. It wasn’t just romance with sports in the background. The sport mattered. The stakes mattered. Their teams mattered. It made every win and every emotional breakthrough hit harder.

Also can we talk about the forced proximity??? Sharing the stadium while hating each other was absolute gourmet romance content. Every hallway interaction felt like a ticking bomb ready to explode.

I loved that neither of them magically became perfect people overnight. They fought, messed up, pushed too hard, learned slowly. It felt messy and real and earned.

Honestly this book had everything I love: angry chemistry, mutual respect buried under layers of tension, emotional growth, sharp banter, and two captains trying so hard not to fall for each other while absolutely failing at it.

5 stars without hesitation ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My heart is bruised, healed, and ready to reread immediately.

What starts as a sports romance full of rivalry and tension quickly turns into a story about ambition, vulnerability, equality and learning how to let someone in without losing yourself. 💜

☀️ Teddy is one of those female main characters that instantly commands attention. She’s fierce, stubborn, passionate, and unapologetically determined to fight for her team and for women’s sports as a whole. I absolutely loved how layered she felt: strong on the outside, but carrying insecurities and emotional scars that made her incredibly human. Watching her slowly lower her walls throughout the story felt natural and emotional rather than rushed. 🍦🏉

🧸 Connor… honestly? 𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗕𝗢𝗬𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗟 ☘️ He’s confident without being arrogant, supportive without trying to overshadow Teddy, and the way he respects her ambitions made me love him even more.

Their dynamic is packed with tension from the very beginning with years of rivalry, forced proximity, constant banter and chemistry that practically jumps off the page. 🔥💦 The tension builds beautifully chapter after chapter, every interaction between them felt charged, whether they were arguing, teasing each other or sharing quieter emotional moments. 🐚🌅 Connor’s dirty mouth paired with Teddy’s strong personality made their chemistry absolutely addictive. 🤭

One of my favorite things was how it highlighted the inequalities within professional sports, especially women’s rugby. It gave the story so much depth beyond the romance itself, making it feel meaningful without ever becoming heavy-handed. 🖊️ @meghanhollieauthor managed to balance emotional moments, social commentary, humor, and spice perfectly. 👏🏼

What about secondary characters? They didn’t just feel like background names added to fill scenes, they genuinely brought warmth, humor, and emotional depth to the story. 🫶🏻 The locker room banter, the teasing, the emotional support during harder moments… it all made the world feel so alive. 💚

Honestly, I am excited for future books in the series. 👀✨

A sports, rivals to lovers, reverse grumpy sunshine, captain x captain, emotional, humour, forced proximity, black cat x golden retriever, secret relationship.
Heroine, Teddy, is the captain of Valkyries and a really strong and focused human being. Her purpose and dream is to make female rugby more approachable and acceptable to everyone. And to her father. That's why she's also territorial and when the Knights request for sharing their facilities due to misfortune there begins the problems. Actually one problem. Enter hero, Connor, who is an easy going type and also captain of Knights but has his own burden to carry. He knows how to ruffle her feathers and they have rivalry relationship back from the University.
But while the two captains try to balance things and manage media they come closer and closer and they both see something more to each other. And they can't resist each other. While attracted they get to know more and lean to each other until decisions have to be made that'll define tomorrow.
This book is really inspiring for all those girls out there professional athletes or not. It gives an insight how things are difficult for the female sports, things that we as outsiders haven't really thought about. It's empowering and though I'm not really fan of rugby I would have loved to watch a game or two for the support.
I loved how Teddy carried her team through the obstacles while the team itself acted as a family. I love found family. She was methodical, she was determined, she was an absolute menace and I was happy for her in the end.
Connor has his own burden and doubts that eat him until the light flips and he comes to a decision that made him comfortable with his own skin.
The story was quite emotional in many parts and had lots of humour too. It was a really fine reading and I enjoyed it as much.
I received this arc and this is my honest opinion.

Tropes- ex rivals, rugby romance, found family, black cat x golden retriever, hurt/comfort, both rugby captains, forced proximity, he falls first, slow burn

Meghan has done it once again with an amazing book filled with an insane amount chemistry, and an excellent slow burn which I loved. Connor and Teddy both were amazing characters and I couldn’t get enough of their story I devoured this book like it was no tomorrow. With Connor’s team’s pitch being destroyed, leaving the girls rugby team have to share their pitch with them.

Teddy my freaking girl I love her and she takes no crap at all especially in a male dominated field she’s so empowering. Teddy is definitely going on my book girlfriend list I couldn’t get enough of her and her personality and how she doesn’t play with it comes to her team. She can be guard and give major black cat energy but she’s also have a soft side

Their chemistry, banter, spice!? Oh my had giggling and kicking my feet the whole book. They go so well together and just get each other they both such amazing characters and I relate to them both in so many different ways. And seeing both teams together and separately was also incredible cause they work so hard plus the found family was amazing

Connor O’Riley THE MAN YOU AREEE, he’s just everything and more and I would do anything for him hehe. He just wanted to love and support Teddy no matter what and I love that, and his family is absolutely amazing I loved seeing them on page. Connor is amazing and he’s obviously going on that book boyfriend list cause why not!? He’s one of the best mmc’s I’ve read this year

Reading about Connor and Teddys growth within themselves and with each other was chef kiss and seeing them learn to trust each other and open up was something so special I just love them so much and their relationship and history is just so done so good

I need to read more rugby romances cause this was hitting so good and I can’t wait to see how this series plays out cause I have so many thoughts and theories!

Thank You So Much for giving me this incredible arc !💐🖤

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚

Try & Resist - @meghanhollieauthor

What an absolutely fantastic start to a brand new series by Meghan Hollie. The Coastal Try series starts with a cracker of a book and I just couldn't put it down.

The story focuses on Connor and Teddy. They are captains of their rugby teams and are forced to share a stadium after an earthquake causes some damage. Teddy, who Captains the Valkyries Womens team is not best pleased at having to share with The Knights Captain, Connor. But they have to find a way to work together for the love of the sport and their teams. They know of each other as they were rivals in college so there is that push and pull between them. The author does a magnificent job in building the tension between the two characters.

Teddy was a complex character that is strong willed, determined and ready to fight for her girls. But underneath she has a real vulnerability to her that she only shares with trusted confidants. Once you break down her walls she will be loyal to you. Watching her grow and soften as her relationship with Connor grew was really magical. It was a delight watching her find happiness. But I loved that she still had her edge that made her unapologetically her.

Connor was top tier book boyfriend material. His Irish sayings melted me just as much as Teddy. But I loved the way he was with her. He gave her space when she neeed it and I liked that they communicated well throughout the book making the characters feel mature. There were real stand out moments but I won't give spoilers.

The book had a real positive message and it was clear that the author's passion came through her characters.

This may just be her best book yet. I absolutely loved it. A brilliant sports romance.

This is my first Meghan Hollie book and I know it won't be my last. I love her writing style and the pace of the book. Here's your gist of the story... earthquake happens (rutroh) now the Knights (Captained by Conner) have to share with the Valkyries (Captained by Teddy). That's the gist of the story, I'm not saying there isn't much else, there is a ton else but I ain't spoiling it. Not sure if Meghan intended for the moral lessons in this story but there are some if you are paying attention so don't just skim to the spicy parts.

The big main issues... Teddy has dealt all her life with fighting for space in a very male dominated sport, at first Conner doesn't understand it but when he does, man does he fight for her and for all females in rugby. This man is the most golden retriever book boyfriend ever. He's so caring, funny, head over heals in love. He's also struggling because he comes from a prominent rugby name but can he forge his own path. Oh, he's also pierced. Teddy is such a kickass FMC. She takes care of her friends/team, love deeply, passionate, strong, and strong headed. I love how she rallies her team and her passion for women's sports (which don't get the respect they deserve). She also never let Conner get away with any crap.

I'm not a sports fan so I don't know all the lingo for any of them. There was the right amount of sports references in this book for me where it wasn't overwhelming. That practice scene with both team was definitely a fun read. The spice in general was very well written and just the right amount for the story, did I mention he's pierced.

First things first - I LOVE WHEN WOMEN ARE ATHLETES IN SPORTS ROMANCES TOO!! (Plus anything with a somewhat reformed bad boy who falls headfirst for his girl will always make me happy!)

Back when I was in an all-girls high school, I played sports and excelled academically without the pressure of having to look pretty at school like so many I know did. When I went to college, I never got dressed up for class—mostly because I didn't realize that was a thing girls did... and I never questioned whether I had opportunities??

I truly think that shaped me as a woman and gave me so many opportunities, but when I graduated, I quickly realized the rest of the world isn't like that, and remains unequal 20 years later... Reading romances like Try & Resist makes me feel triumphant! Finally, girls are getting their shot, ya know?!

Also - I loved BOTH of the main characters here. Both Teddy and Connor wanted to grow up, show up for people... and have some scorchingly hot schmex along the way!!

P.S. Male rugby players are DELICIOUS. If you don't know... do a casual Google. 👀

The idea of tomorrow no longer made sense unless she was part of it. And I knew it right then, staring at this beautiful woman in my bed, I was willing to do anything to keep her.

Teddy is captain of the woman’s Rugby, the Valkyries, who are having their first professional session. The men’s stadium collapsed due to an earthquake, so the Knights and Valkyries now share a stadium. The two captains, Teddy & Connor, are now forced together to attend certain activities. But will these two now finally find their way together?

Yes, they will 🥹. What a sweet story Meghan brought us!
We have Teddy, who is a little grump, but once she is loved, she becomes a little softie. Connor is just perfect for her, as he lets her be, who and how she needs to be.
Connor is a little cocky at first, but is quickly humbled, once he realizes, that woman are not as privileged in sports as men are. So he does a lot of things that I wish men in real life would also acknowledge! He is a very sweet man and is exactly right for Teddy.
These two are definitely a perfect match!
We also meet new faces, who I can’t wait to read about in following stories, either as main characters or as side characters. But there are also two familiar names we see, which I absolutely loved!

If you are new to Meghan’s books, then Try & Resist is a perfect starter into her writing! It will keep you wanting for more. 🤍

Thank you so much Meghan, Jessi and Katie for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Try & Resist is an incredible launch to a brand-new series, and it completely pulled me in from the first chapter.

Meghan Hollie delivers a sports romance packed with chemistry, heart, and characters you can’t help but root for.

Teddy and Connor are rival rugby captains forced to share facilities after unexpected damage leaves them with no other option. Their history goes back years, which makes every interaction layered with tension, frustration, and undeniable attraction. The rivals-to-lovers energy was so good, and the slow build between them kept me hooked the entire time.

Teddy was such a standout heroine, she is strong, driven, fiercely protective, and determined to prove herself.

I loved that beneath her tough exterior there was vulnerability and depth that made her feel real. Watching her slowly let someone in was one of the best parts of the story.

Connor was everything you want in a hero. Supportive, patient, and completely tuned in to Teddy’s needs, he knew when to step in and when to give her space. Their connection felt mature, balanced, and incredibly satisfying to watch grow.

The rugby setting added something fresh and exciting, but it was the emotional depth and character growth that made this book shine. Funny, heartfelt, and full of tension, this was an addictive read from start to finish.

A brilliant start to the Coastal Try series! I already can’t wait for what comes next.

Any Meghan Hollie is a HOME RUN!!

Thanks to Meghan’s team for allowing me to read this early!

I received an ARC for this and am so grateful.

I love a good sports romance, I havent read one in a while but this what great and enjoyable!

The complexity of both characters, I did enjoy. The tension between MCs was great too.

The FMC, Teddy; is fierce, loyal, and an advocate for not just women in sports - but women in general. She fights conceptions every day within professional sports and she doesn't just actively fight for herself and her team, but for the generations that come after her.

Our MMC, Connor, is a cheeky Irish captain. He is admirable, a fantastic leader, loyal, genuine and supports women's advocacy too. The fact that he ALWAYS wants Teddy to be comfortable whether its during press photo shoots, or to just be herself within the industry. The way he fights for her and ends up fighting for next generations of women too.

The shift between being rivals, and Connor seeing Teddy in a new light- respecting and admiring her was a great journey to be a part of.

The spice in this was absolutely delicious!!! Connor has a dirty mouth and I couldn't get enough.

My only issue was the pacing, at times it felt like such a long book because there was a lot happening but also not really progressing if that makes sense. It was difficult to hold my attention at multiple parts of the book, but it didn't last long!

- rivals to lovers
-slow burn 🔥
- he 💦 his pants
-hurt/comfort
-pierced MMC
-strong willed FMC
-Green flag MMC (to me)
-he begs

And soooo much more!! I really enjoyed this.
