Barbara Øvstedal was an author previously writing under the pseudonym Barbara Paul and Barbara Douglas. She wrote a few books under this pseudonym but later changed to Rosalind Laker when Barbara Paul gained recognition. Her many books include The Sugar Pavilion and To Dance with Kings.

I thought the focus of the novel would be an ambitious woman learning to work with silver. Instead it's a predictable romance that develops quicky with inevitable results. It's such a tired plot device and not at all what I bought the book for. DNF after a couple of long uninteresting chapters and returned.

Hester is an amazing woman, smart and hardworking. I love her total dedication to her husband and family and was so pleased when she received recognition for her work. She mentored and led her children to achieve greatness. I am so glad James remained a loving presence in her life.

An interesting historical Novel about goldsmiths and silver smiths during the 1900s hundreds . It takes the reader right into the times . The author has a wealth of knowledge about the art of
gold smithing during that time . During one families tragedies and triumphs the reader learns about the art of gold smithing in the nineteenth century!
