To wear the blue skull of the Nameless is to die in service to the boy-king. Or be hunted. Forever.
A reckless plan. A desperate escape. But for those who survive the goblins, their true test has only begun.
Len’Neth is wild. Merciless. Hungry. And every step forward must be earned with sweat and stubbornness. Yet even in the harshest corners of the world, brotherhood can take root. Hope can spark in the unlikeliest hearts. And the Nameless will discover that standing together may be the one strength no army can crush.
So sit close to the fire and hear the tale of how it all began in the third thrilling installment of the Pendulum Series, where friendship carries men through darkness, perseverance shapes fate, and no journey is walked alone.
After graduating from UNH, Brennan Morton joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he became a sniper, breacher, and team leader in a Reconnaissance Battalion. I really enjoyed all 3 books in this new fantasy world. The plot and character development were great. The non linear story telling along with the backstory on most of the characters was fantastic. I can't wait to read more of his work.
Very enjoyable and well written characters. It definitely feels like a D&D campaign.
The time skips and hopping around threw me off a little at the start and end. But the Gurd story was fantastic. I knew where it was going but man it was still so well done.
I have now read all three of the books in the Pendulum Series. I enjoyed all three. The story and the writing are not as polished as some of the better books in this genre and I am usually put off by those issues, but not in the case of these books and this author. The series is a little disjointed and disorganized because it jumps around a bit with disconnected sub-plots. The author promises a fourth book in the series that presumably will tie together the existing 3 novels' story lines and says he has learned from writing the I gave these novels 5 stars (unusually high for me) in hopes of encouraging Mr. Morton to complete the series
Ever wonder how people got to the place they presently find themselves? Too many stories miss that. Even the LOTR series doesn't give us much details about who the characters and how they became who they were before the main story starts. Character development. That is an essential piece to a good story and this series delivers. I wish more authors knew how to make characters in a story more than two dimensional. A great read here. Thank you Mr. Morton.
p.s. Mr. Morton if you can draw a map I would appreciate it! p.s.s. I read this series and didn't try the audio
I enjoyed the first two books. But i was unsure if i wanted to invest in reading what will be the full series. There was a lot of promise, but something was missing. I think this time though everything is there, i liked this book a lot, and am looking forward to the next installment!
Not an easy read but so worth it. It’s been a long time since I have read such an enjoyable series - I am hooked by Nimblejack’s art of the story and can’t wait for his next tale.
Reminds me a bit of the Malazan Book of the Fallen so far, all in good ways. It's not a coming-of-age story following a bunch of kids getting up to hijinks or being overly sexualized at a young age. No all-powerful savior growing into a man. Different stories happening in different locations with plenty of hopping around with each new chapter, but not so much that it's crazy making. Lots of likeable characters don't make it, but it's not all fetishized violence or constant rape and torture like A Song of Ice and Fire where you're rooting for the barely-tolerable c-listers by end. The books stand well on their own, but there is a cohesive arc throughout. It's hard to tell so far if there's a grand design in the works learing toward a an ultimate finale, but I kinda hope so. It's definitely not the completed trilogy I thought I was getting into. But, as Brennan said in his "Backward", his writing is improving through continued effort and bringing editors on board. Maybe start from the beginning when the next book comes out if it takes a while.
While not exactly what I was expecting, this was a fun read. Book three of the company of bones was a step back in time to before they formed. We get a lot of useful backstory to a few of the band. All this plus a thought out interesting story which will tie in quite nicely to book one. Looking forward to see where this goes plus the back story to the crafty leader.
Liked the book, enjoyed the writing. Like how each character is introduced individually without focusing on just one. Close in style to Glen Cook, if not in scope. I think that will come with growing confidence.
Really enjoyed all three books so far in this series. I love the characters and how we get to know each one better while also enjoying the main storyline. Very unique.
