Your presence is a privilege. This book shows you how to live like it.
I listened to the audio version of this book and appreciated its succinctness and matter-of-fact style. However, it’s also very dry and lacks the author’s voice and personality. This, combined with the AI reader (which was an unenjoyable experience) makes me wonder if it was written partially, if not completely through AI.
I really hate to say it, because I always question what if I’m wrong—but, there’s no way this isn’t AI written.
Every concept is presented in lists…and the lists have lists.
There’s some truths hidden in the book, so if it helps someone, great. But, there’s also some psychobabble that I feel is potentially damaging as well.
First, this is a shallow, repetitive AI-written and AI-narrated book. Not a fan.
Second, I don’t remember buying it, but it was in my Audible account, which is why I listened to it on a long drive. I sped up the narration, and I’m glad it was short.
Third, when I chose it at the start of my drive, I didn’t realize it was going to be so focused on romantic or maybe close friendship relationships. I assumed, incorrectly, that it would be about all kinds of relationships. This third part is my fault, but I just wanted to give a heads up that it is *not* really applicable to many relationships (work, family, etc.). In general, its vague, shallow, repetitive nature doesn’t even make it worth the read if you are trying to work through romantic relationships/close friendships, you’d be better off watching clips on social media.
Love the book because its to the point, short and tells you like it is. The AI voice ruins the overall performance of the book because of mispronouncing certain words and pausing at weird moments, which distracts a bit.
This really hit Home for me. It’s not letting people miss you and I’m malicious way. It’s standing firm and being unavailable when something doesn’t serve you. That’s the best way to explain it. I really enjoyed it.
I found many gems in this book to help me heal from the imbalance in many of my relationships. I am finally finding peace. By understanding how I got to the point of emotional exhaustion when dealing with other people I thought cared about me, I realized it is good to protect your peace.
Well-written and succinct. Plenty of content worth highlighting. It’s not brand new information, it’s what we all periodically need to remind ourselves.
This is the second book in the “Let Them” Emotional Detachment series. It hits the point when you’re feeling like you’ve taken care of everyone but yourself and explains how to distance yourself and create boundaries, ultimately finding self-respect and easing your emotional exhaustion. The book speaks truth while explaining patterns and why people may take advantage of you. It advises how to step back and learn to treat yourself, so you will have confidence and freedom, then naturally you will be treated better as people see your self-respect.
