The first in the COMANCHE series. It is 1861, and the frontiersman Comanche Scott rides to Virginia to take his son West, to avoid the upcoming War Between the States. Their journey takes them down the Santa Fe trail with a caravan of freight wagons, in a time when the Army was being recalled East to fight the upcoming war, leaving wagon trains vulnerable to attacks by renegades and highwaymen. By taking his son West, is Comanche helping his son avoid one war only to submerse him in another kind of warfare?
Brad was born in rural New England and grew up reading Louis L'Amour, Luke Short, A.B Guthrie, Jr., and even Edgar Rice Burroughs. He knew at 14 he wanted to write for a living, and refused to give up the goal even when the odds seemed overwhelmingly against it. Now, thanks to Amazon, his stories are now available. He is a member of the Western Writers of America
Brad fell in love with the Old West at a very young age. It began with movies and old TV series like GUNSMOKE and BONANZA, and later expanded to western novels. This led to his study of western history. The pioneers, the Indians, the cattlemen, the gunfighters. His interest in history is not so much about wars and great leaders, but the people who lived on the land. And that's what he writes about. The people. He doesn't write about the old west as much as he writes about what it might have felt like to be there.
He loves contact from readers. He can be reached by email at mccabewesterns@gmail.com if you want to discuss his stories, or even just the American West in general.
In the looming shadow of the Civil War, Comanche Scott, a father long absent from his son's life, embarks on a perilous journey to rescue sixteen-year-old Billy Tucker, his ex-wife, and her new family from the impending conflict in Virginia. Traveling under the cover of darkness to evade detection, they navigate through treacherous farmlands and ranches, eventually reaching Westport and joining a wagon train heading west. The arduous expedition tests their resolve as they confront unforgiving terrain, scarce water resources, and constant threats from ruthless outlaws and hostile renegades. Their survival depends on courage, cunning, and an unbreakable familial bond forged in the crucible of a nation torn apart by war.
This is another awesome story by Brad Dennison. It has all the elements of life a death , during the fascinating time of the Civil War and western migration. If you have read his previous book series,Tennessee, this book measures up to the standard they set. I certainly hope this is the first book of another series. Thank you Mr Dennison!
Story that keeps your interest throughout. A different set of character interactions that kept the pages turning with the kind of anticipation that often make Western books such a joy to read.
I loved the McCabe series, so when I learned Dennison was beginning a new series I was enthused and eager to begin Commanche. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment.
First book in a new series by Brad Dennison. Comanche Scott comes to Virginia to take his son west, to keep the boy from being forced to fight in the coming war between the States. But there's battles to be fought in the west too.
This was an extra great Book in that was an easygoing Storyline which got my attention from page One…. On a special note, the book was a little too predictable and easy to guess what happens next!!
Rich characters, with very visual descriptions that make the story come alive. Brad Dennison at his best. I've already recommended to family and friends.
