Deadly quests blur the line between hate and love in this all-new standalone romantasy.
King Brey and Queen Ethel were once in love—until they became husband and wife. While Brey was instantly infatuated upon meeting his betrothed, the arrangement made by her father was an unwelcome surprise for Ethel. Forced to surrender all she knew, Ethel did so reluctantly, and her torn heart broke her husband’s. Now, the two live lazily in a palace too small for their bitter feelings and venomous words. But their reign of indulgence has been costly, and they must finally put their union to good use by replenishing the wards that protect vampirekind. To complete the deadly tasks awaiting them, they will need to cast their hatred aside and work together—or they could lose far more than a chance to salvage their bloodthirsty love.
USA Today and international bestselling author, Ella Fields, resides in Australia with her husband, two children, and furry critters. A lover of chocolate, magic, and words—she enjoys exploring the sharper sides of love in varying genres of romance.
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH OMG!!! I cannot believe this is a standalone!
Ella Fields has a fantastic way of making characters seem so irredeemable, just to redeem them.
This story is so unique for a fantasy, making it feel so refreshing, while still keeping all those romantasy elements we all know and love. The FMC is fiery, a little mean, but so beyond lovable- i loved her so much.
And the MMC… omg SWOON. I love him and his sweet heart, the things he says in this are fantastic. Also the spice in this was fantastic.
I am obsessed!! The pacing, plot and characters were everything. 5 MF stars! ⭐️
Here are the facts: - I skimmed from page 1 - MMC was a v - FMC was not (also kissed OM after meeting MMC) - then FMC was celibate - then MMC was also apparently celibate but he paid OP to made it looks like he was sleeping around. - so FMC was hurt thinking he was fucking OP but she was still celibate - so MMC was hurt because he thought she cheated so he hurts her back - also the grovel was shit, it didn’t even made it worth it - also FMC should have slept with OP, I don’t care the MMC was faking it, it was real for her because she believed it so he deserved it - conclusion FMC should have grown a pair and told him the truth and leave the ass - conclusion MMC should have grown a pair and make his wife explain herself - side note, he was watching and stalking her way before meeting her. - side note, I am not reading about vampires for a very long time or like ever because fuck this shit!

if there’s one thing ella fields is gonna do, it’s write a BANGER of a book with enough angst to leave you feeling nauseous and emotional in the best way!!!!!!!
literally it’s witchcraft how she manages to write such unputdownable books that are LOADED with A+++ toe curling smut, romantic longing that would put john f*cking keats to shame, witty repartee that will have you blushing and kicking your feet during the workday, AND !!!!! AND !!!!! plenty of SUFFERING as the two characters go ten rounds of not realizing how the other feels!!!!! A GOD TIER FORMULA that hits every single time and somehow is immaculately wrapped up in a single book. my standalone romantasy queen. I WORSHIP AT HER ALTAR.
i loved this so much that i devoured it in a day — two vampires who fell in passionate, all-consuming love, suddenly bitter, toxic enemies trapped in a marriage where their only pleasure is hurting each other in the most insidious of ways? a dual timeline to explain both AND CAUSE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF SUFFERING!? yes. give me 100 of them.
i will say though that if you’re sensitive to a willful miscommunication trope, or if you’re not a fan of a virgin MMC, this may not be for you. but if you love angst !!!! suffering !!!!! SMUT !!!! and a man who loves his betrothed so much that all of her favorite things become his favorites too, then run to grab this when it releases at the end of the month.
thank you ENDLESSLY to ella and her team for the chance to read the ARC! off to lay down and cry over these two idiots-in-love vampires until we’re blessed with another release.
3.5⭐️ Okay even though this was one big miscommunication/ no communication issue I still thought it was good. I liked that you didn’t know what caused this big rift in their relationship for most of the book, it kept me hooked! Once it was revealed what happened I was kinda annoyed that neither of them could just explain the issue… it was truly an unnecessary conflict. Also I really didn’t enjoy what the MMC did after to try to hurt the FMC like she hurt him. I wanted some more groveling to be honest. And i would’ve loved some more discussion about how he had been watching her for years before, it was just brushed over! It was still a fine standalone and I did enjoy the romance when they were happy but it just had a some issues
Second chance romances are hard because of the tropes they often rely on, but I still enjoyed this even with the all annoying miss communication/miss understanding pieces
I am giving this a try because it sounds interesting.
I have a lot of this author’s books listed on my nope shelf due to cheating.
King Breyon
Queen Ethel
Well 1% in she goes to his chambers and a man and woman feeder are tangled together on the bed with wine and clothes everywhere.
Before they married she had multiple other partners. She never wanted to marry. She was involved with her father’s guard Maxim. Once she fell for Breyon she didn’t want to see Maxus anymore. He refused to give up and cornered her at the wedding. She said she’d meet him later, but didn’t really plan to.
Breyon heard this, misunderstood and was disgusted with her. Kicked her out of his rooms and told her to never come to them again. She was devastated, but didn’t let him know the truth. This is the big miscommunication that caused B to break her heart everyday for the next 3 years with other women.

Ella Fields writes the kind of romantasy books that have me hooked from the first page. King Brey and Queen Ethel’s story was EVERYTHING I love about this trope and had me up until the wee hours of the morning. No regrets!
What a wild ride this story is - I cried, I fumed, I swooned and I laughed out loud so many times I lost count. My heart was pounding and my mind was racing wondering what was going to happen next. Their chemistry and banter had me smirking as I read and the ending was even better than I could have hoped for.
I really enjoy Ella Fields’ books. I love that the characters are flawed, make mistakes, and have a bite to them. I also love that she mostly writes stand alones so I do not have to invest in a series and will still be satisfied by decent world building and good character development and plot.
This book follows two recently married vampires—the vampire elements and culture were very much downplayed and they could have just been ordinary beings in their world and the book would have been the same—who fell in love and then things went very wrong immediately after bonding themselves to one another. Now, they’re bonded and essentially trapped in an island castle with just three servants and have to find a way to work together and “solve their riddles three”—meaning, they must do three trial things to save their world. (This was my least favorite part. I’m bored to tears with the constant trials and “three difficult tasks” characters must do in romantasy. But I digress.) The plot oscillates from Now to Then as you slowly learn how these two came together and what drove them apart and whether they will find a way back to one another by the end.
While I loved Brey’s character—he was swoonworthy, snarky, clever, and surprising—I was not nearly as enamored with Ethel. She was unnecessarily aloof and rude and also struggled to understand how hurt Brey was. And she just didn’t even try to mend her mistakes, assuming he would not forgive or discuss anything with her. And he had only ever demonstrated how absolutely infatuated and in love he was with her from the moment they started to see one another, and especially after they bonded. When they did communicate, it was witty, biting perfection. When they didn’t, it grew nearly tedious. When they hurt one another it stung.
I like miscommunication to a certain point. It has to make sense how and why it’s occurring and it needs to be plausible and adult. But Ethel’s behaviors that caused much of the miscommunication didn’t make sense and felt incredibly immature—even while she was more experienced than Brey was. Everything about why she does what she does and says what she says needed better explained. She supposedly was terrified but that was not at all clear until she said so at the 85% mark. That part of the story needed much better development.
Brey redeems much of this book. His devotion, tenderness, and absolute adoration for Ethel—though in my opinion unwarranted—saves much of the book. I would like to have known more about what he saw in her character that made him love her so. His obsession seemed largely comprised of her beauty and sharp tongue.
Well, Ella has done it again. She is the queen of standalones and writing stories with the most angst and banter. My heart was in my stomach for most of this book. I loved the flashbacks of Brey and Ethel and how each one provided more pieces to the puzzle. This was lovers to enemies to lovers and watching Brey and Ethel find their way back to each other made me ache. This is my 4th Ella Fields book and I’m convinced she can do no wrong.
“I think I would walk barefoot over miles of thorns just to touch you.”
“You told me that you love me, but love has room for misunderstandings and mistakes.”
“If this is your way of loving me, then I think I was right to ask for freedom.”
It's a good read but one thing I'm noticing with the author that keeps me from reading more of her books is the writing. It's very pretty that's for sure but it's ornamental the whole time. With this need of overtly descriptive scenes for the atmosphere and all it fails to land. When something good is repeated so much to me, it lessens its impact. There are exceptions to this of course but I just can't follow each line with the same amount of attention when unnecessary words keep stealing it. Again, this is my review and the type of writing that I find easy to navigate
Ella Fields is one of the queens of a romantasy standalone. I love a second chance romance and fell instantly for Ethel and Brey. Their banter was top notch and the way they despised each other but you could tell there was so much love and lust between them too; ugh, perfection. The angst??? Lawd have mercy, I was choking up and tears running down my face because it was so intense but of course we get our HEA. There was also action in here that had me lowkey on the edge of my seat. I can never resist a vampire story because it just feels like going back to my roots and warms my inner teenage soul. I loved the side characters as well and their role in the lives of Brey and Ethel.
3.5/5⭐️ the plot is quick and uncomplicated, though a bit cliché. what frustrates me, however, is their poor communication; the mmc is too quick to judge and vindictive, and the fmc is too stubborn and bitter so she spends the majority of the story stewing in silence. despite that and the overly elaborate writing-style in this one, i enjoyed the reading (and spicy scenes).
Ella Fields decided to destroy my heart thoroughly with probably her most angsty creation ever in Bloodthirsty Beloved. This enemies to lover romantasy delivered premium heartbreak in every page. The passion was equally legendary. Brey and Ethel took my heart through an epic adventure. Where danger, drama and suspense waited in every turn but the heartache reigns supreme. The pain was exquisite. The bite was sweet. My heart is still aching with the lingering bittersweet feels.
👑 vampire romance 👑 arranged marriage 👑 enemies to lovers 👑 royal romance 👑 romantic suspense 👑 all the heat and all the angst 👑 he falls first
Ethel never wanted to get married because she knew that vampire royalty doesn't keep it sacred. But when the reclusive king of their wretched island comes with a deal with her evil father, she had to make a choice. King Brey isn't hiding his obsession and adoration for her but a secret from her past breaks their freshly formed trust. And now their marriage is a wasteland of anger and disdain and cruelty from the king. But they have to feed the wards protecting their island as it is the very important cause of their reunion. Are they doomed?
The beauty of the book is in the writing. Ella Fields has a way with words that transforms even the most simple moments into unforgettable ones. Ethel is different than other royal vampires. She likes her freedom. She is sassy and feisty and fearless. She refused to bind herself to another immortal till King Breyron came and put himself under her skin slowly. He is just so perfect in every way. The way he is devoted and enamored and obsessed to Ethel gave me goosebumps every single time. He is contrast personified. His ruthless father shaped and trained him to be a skilled assassin but he has the most beautiful heart full of vulnerabilities and that is why Ethel's secret broke him in such a brutal way. The misunderstanding cut him so deeply that he reacted in completely uncharacteristic way. He tortured her with his indifference and disdain and cutting remarks. Ethel was stuck in a loveless marriage with a ruined man who lost his way in vengeance and pain. But their marriage is also necessary to save the vampire island and it forced them to work together. Those forced moments also brought reconciliation as the fog of lies got cleared. The worst painful part was Ethel falling for Brey and experiencing all his sweet parts, only to be thrown into the pit of heartbreak. Grey was hurting even more but he was guarding his heart. I loved the quests they went to and the fantastical world created by the author. Their love was all consuming and so was their passion. It was as sinful and filthy as it can be.
I was absolutely over the moon when Ella surprise announced this new release and I was then checking my kindle repeatedly for this arc to drop because I just knew it would be good, and guysss 🙌🏻 10/10, all the stars, I 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 this in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. The banter, the tension, the heartbreak and emotional anticipation, gah!
Blood Thirsty Beloved is a vampire Romantasy written from the FMC’s POV in a dual timeline of alternating chapters until we reach the tipping point of the present. The present, where Ethel and her husband Brey are the King and Queen of vampires but are stuck in a marriage of hurt, betrayal and bitterness where their words are weapons and their feelings for each other are buried under walls of pride and uncertainty. Then there’s ‘then’, where we follow the journey of their meeting, courting, falling in love, their wedding day, and the event that broke both their hearts. They are forced to work together to protect their kingdom against outside forces as well as those inside that are working against them and ya’ll. That forced proximity paired with high tension quests, unspoken feelings and emotions is👌🏻
I absolutely freaking love this couple. Ella writes some of the best angsty romance and I honestly didn’t think she could top the couple from Amid Clouds and Bones but I was wrong. Brey and Ethel have so much chemistry, emotional baggage, and buried dreams. Their banter had me absolutely cackling at times, their sweet moments had me swooning and at other times my heart was squeezing at the hurt they would cause each other and themselves. Their journey back to each other is full of miscommunications, self doubt, heartbreak, honesty and rediscovery, and my heart was absolutely beaming by the end of the final page.
Despite the heavy romance plot (this may be her spiciest yet imo) the world building is stunning and the adventure/quests/trials they need to complete are action packed and had my heart rate going more often than not. One thing about Ella’s writing is it’s never long enough, I always need more 😭
♾️ ⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Vampires secrets and betrayals forced proximity second chance heartbreak and yearning touch her and 💀 3 deadly tasks tension and spiceee banter
This releases on December 29th and I absolutely recommend you pick this one up asap! Thank you so much Ella for the gifted arc ❤️❤️
I shouldn't be surprised that Ella Fields would sneak this book in right at year end and that it would be one of my top reads of the year.
I've found myself in a bit of a book funk over the past couple of months and this was the perfect book to get me out of it. I absolutely adored Brey and Ethel and this pair has totally rekindled my love of vampire romance.
King Breyron is looking for a wife. Ethel has no intention of ever getting married. Unfortunately for her, Ethel's father has made a deal with the King. It seems as though the King's search for a bride has brought him to her palace and he wants no other. The King is determined to make Ethel love him, and he does just that. Until they get married. Since breaking Brey's heart, the Queen and King have lived as enemies in their palace, but it's time that they put their feelings aside to feed the wards that protect vampirekind.
While this romantasy does have some darker elements, it's not really what I'd consider a dark romance. The banter and and bickering between Brey and Ethel kept me entertained and flipping the pages. I smiled and laughed so much throughout this story and I didn't want to see it end. I have definitely found myself a new favorite vampire couple with these two.
It's not all fun and games though. There was some nail biting angst and a little bit of heartbreak throughout these pages too. Second chance romance is my absolute favorite, and at the heart of the story, that's truly what this is and I could not get enough of it.
Ella Fields, you've slain me once again! BLOODTHIRSTY BELOVED is everything I love about romance and fantasy done just right. This is the quintessential chef's kiss, with a vicious bite on the side. (Pun absolutely intended!)
I am not traditionally a fan of vampire romantasies, but Ella has written this angsty enemies-to-lovers tale in such a way as to almost make the genre a background intrigue to their tumultuous saga of a relationship, so that it supports the story beautifully.
I don't quite know how to wax lyrically enough about the characters in this superb story as to do them justice. Brey and Ethel are at once as selfish and outlandish, as they are vulnerable and redeemable. The passion these two exude and the hurt they brandish as weapons is emotionally exhausting at times, and their banter so whimsically entertaining, you just can't help but pour your heart out for this couple, and cheer them on in their fight for their happy ending.
As always Fields' world building is so vividly exquisite; her landscapes sensually immersive, her villains so spine-chillingly vile, and the supportive characters so refreshingly colorful, this story has easily become my favourite read for 2025 and the perfect way to round out the year.
BLOODTHIRSTY BELOVED by Ella Fields Stand Alone told in first person POV. Brey and Ethel's story Tropes: Fantasy, Vampires, Forced Proximity, Arranged Marriage, Enemies to Lovers King Brey had an instant infatuation with Ethel. He knew she was the one and arranged with her domineering father to marry her. Ethel wanted nothing to do with this and definitely made her feelings known. Neither Brey nor Ethel let the other know they were falling for each other which eventually broke each others hearts. As King and Queen they were expected to risk everything to save their kingdom. This made for some really exciting reading. Loved it!! Somehow Ms. Fields turns these fantasy worlds and characters real and I totally fell for King Brey and his tender heart. Ethel was this sassy girl on the outside yet she was so beautiful on the inside even with insecurities. Both stubborn and very protective of their own hearts. The sizzling scenes from their joining were nuclear perfection and I couldn't have enjoyed this book more!!
Okay, so I realize that Ella Fields writes the kind of MMCs that I love. They are jealous, a little (sometimes a lot) toxic, and broody. Her books are so full of ANGST and YEARNING and I can never get enough!! 🔥
While this book was an early 5 🌟 read for me, it does have miscommunication and that sh!t drives me nuts lol. I totally thought Brey and Ethel had done something extra awful to each other, but nahhh, they just didn’t know how to fckin communicate. It’s cool though, because we get a sexy hate f*ck scene and I’m here for it. 🤣🤷🏻♀️ ALL IS FORGIVEN!
Can we also talk about that cute nickname he gives her?! LETHAL instead of Ethel? I am obsessed.
I swear I liked a lot more about this book, but I need to get my review started before I start my next read and never come back to fully review this.

Blood Thirsty Beloved might be my favorite of Ella Fields fantasy books. And I love all of her fantasy books. She’s the reason I got into fantasy. But when I was not reading this book, I was thinking out this book & that is telling!
Bray is something else. I want a Bray in my life because even when he was pissed he still was so deeply in love that it was so obvious to everyone but Ethel. Also, can I please live in Bray’s palace? I just want his staff. That’s it. And I connect with Ethel in all these little ways, like the horrible dad and how it makes her who she is. I just love this story so much! The way they work together despite being so mad at each other, taking care of each other, the humor, the passion! Absolutely another 5 star for Ella Fields!
I was craving a great fantasy read to sink my teeth into, and Bloodthirsty Beloved was a wildly romantic vampire-infused tale that I couldn’t put down, captivated by this story of intense love and hate.
Stories revolving around vampires have always been my weakness and add in a passionate romance, adventurous vibes, clever banter and a strong cast of characters, and I can’t help but fall effortlessly into the pages of this book.
Ella’s books are always a favorite read to curl up with a cup of tea and a blanket and get lost within the pages of her romantic stories, and Bloodthirsty Beloved was no different, an addictive and mesmerizing new tale to add to her collection.💜

*Thank you to the author for sending me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.*
Anything by Ella Fields is always an instant read for me. From the world building to the characters to the witty banter, straight away I was completely immersed and could not stop myself from reading in every available spare minute because I could not wait to find out what happened next.
“How disappointed are you?” “When I look at you, it hurts to breathe.”
Ella’s writing is such a joy to read. “I just let him slaughter me softly.”
Blood Thirsty Beloved was such a perfect combination of story, character growth, romance and spice for me!
I am lucky enough to be on Ella’s ARC team, however it doesn’t change my honest review of this book.
Ella Fields delivers peak angst, heat, and emotional devastation in the best way. Brey and Ethel's marriage is deliciously toxic, full of razor-sharp banter, wounded pride, and unresolved love that bleeds off the page. The dual timeline slowly reveals how deep their bond once was, making the present-day bitterness hurt even more. I loved how forced proximity and deadly quests push them back together, stripping away misunderstandings and emotional armor. The spice is intense, the yearning is brutal, and the payoff is well worth it. This is second-chance romance done right, painful, passionate, and utterly addictive.
It took me a little bit of time to get into this one, but once I hit about 30%, I was LOCKED in, and couldn't stop reading. I adoreeeee Brey and Ethel. Their back and forth is, ugh just chef's kiss it's so good. I could feel the animosity between these two. But let me tell you, their chemistry is white hot, and the spice is spicing in this book!
This is told in first person and while I do wish it was dual POV, that doesn't at all detract from the story. All in all this was the perfect fantasy to end my 2025 with!
holy misunderstanding/miscommunication trope maxxing. i truly hate this trope, so it’s actually a wonder i was able to muster it for this novel. but i loved both FMC and MMC so so so much, their personalities were interesting, witty, funny, and unique— and together their banter and dynamic unmatched. i loved their story despite the stupid reason for their conflict, and thought the author’s clever way of splitting the storytelling kept me from putting the book down once. truly loved FMC’s unwavering confident and unabashed personality and for for once the MMC being the inexperienced one who just wants to please the FMC after meeting her
I'll start by saying Ella Fields is an auto read author for me. The complexity of the relationships in her writing that veer away from all the repetitive tropes is amazing for me. That being said, this wasn't one of my favs. It was good, but was basically a story about stubbornness, grudges, and lack of communication. One important conversation could have prevented the majority of heartache. Instead we have adults (king and queen no less) acting like immature teenagers. I was shaking my head the whole time. I enjoyed the MMCs vulnerability in regards to intimacy and found that super refreshing. All in all a decent read.
Honestly, it's to the point where you could give me a new Ella Fields book, not tell me the author, and I'd have it pegged as being hers in the first 5 pages. They all have the exact same vibe. That said, I love the vibe, and I stayed up until 6am reading this because her books are laced with crack and there's no good place to put them down (yeah, I'm a slow reader... leave me alone). The plot wasn't super strong, but the characters were actually the worst in the best way. I hated them, but they were also oddly endearing? I don't know, man. I liked it. She's absolutely an auto-buy author for me and this was exactly what I was expecting.
