‘ঘরে আর অন্য কেহ নাই। ঠাকুর শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ ঘরে একাকী তক্তপোশের উপর বসিয়া আছেন, ঘরে আর অন্য কেহ নাই। মন্দির দর্শনে যাওয়ার সময় এই ঘরে উঁকি দিয়েছিলেন, তখন দরজা খোলা ছিল, কি দেখেছিলেন ! এক ঘর লোক নিস্তব্ধ হইয়া তাঁহার কথামৃত পান করিতেছেন। ঠাকুর তক্তপোশে বসিয়া পূর্বাশা হইয়া হাস্যবদনে হরিকথা কহিতেছেন। ভক্তেরা মেঝয় বসিয়া আছেন। তাঁহার বোধ হইল, যেন সাক্ষাৎ শুকদেব ভগবৎ কথা কহিতেছেন, আর সর্ব তীর্থের সমাগম হইয়াছে। অথবা যেন শ্রীচৈতন্য পুরীক্ষেত্রে রামানন্দ স্বরূপাদি ভক্ত সঙ্গে বসিয়া আছেন ও ভগবানের নাম গুণকীর্তন করিতেছেন। ঘরে ধুনা দেওয়া হইয়াছে ও সমস্ত দরজা বন্ধ।’ শ্রীম

‘মাস্টার মশায় যখন “কথামৃত” লেখেন, রাত্রিতে আমি কয়েকবার তাঁর কাছে উপস্থিত ছিলাম। গরম কালে ছাদের উপর বসিয়া কখন বা শুইয়া তিনি তাঁহার করচা (Diary) হইতে লিখিত পংক্তি পড়িয়া ঘটনাসকল স্মরণ করিয়া বলিয়া যাইতেন এবং অপর একজন লিখিয়া যাইত। এই রূপে কথামৃত লেখা হইয়াছিল।’ সত্যেন্দ্রনাথ দত্ত
