This book felt a bit too complicated for me. Honestly, I couldn’t understand Effy’s actions at all 😩. She wanted so badly to get into the Literature College and be the first girl ever to study there, but she didn’t even put in the slightest effort. Most of the time, she just locked herself in her room reading Antonia’s journals (which, to be honest, I didn’t care about at all 🙃). And the whole thing with the Fairy King… she was always anxious, unstable, and lost around him. But when she killed him and he was finally gone, I didn’t get why she suddenly felt so alone.
The part that annoyed me the most was when she said: “𝘕𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘸 . . . 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭. 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬, 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦, 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦.” Like… girl, Preston literally did EVERYTHING for you 😤, and you still feel alone even with him beside you? And she doesn’t even believe him when he says he loves her?? Poor Preston deserves so much better. Sometimes I even felt like Effy lowkey loved the Fairy King more, because she was obsessed with her fantasy world. It felt so contradictory — in book one she killed him to save Preston, but now in book two she acts like she doesn’t deserve Preston and keeps crying about it 🥲. Honestly… such a baby.
And don’t get me started on her drama when her meds ran out 🙄. Instead of trusting Preston or even asking what really happened at the museum, she caused unnecessary chaos. Yes, she was clearly depressed, but the way it was written made me feel more frustrated than sympathetic.
Plot-wise, I was left with way too many unanswered questions 🤯. Why Preston, specifically? What about the Sleepers — where did they go? It honestly felt like the author didn’t know how to push the story forward, so she just filled it with Effy’s endless drama. It could have been so much stronger. And I really hate finishing a book only to be left drowning in unanswered questions 😤.
That being said… I actually loved the ending 😍. Argent winning the war against Lír was satisfying, and Lotto was such a real friend to Preston — always there for him through everything. And of course, the engagement between Preston and Effy 💙 even if she’s frustrating, I honestly kept reading for that moment.
𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭: A messy, confusing sequel with way too much Effy-drama, but at least it gave us Preston (who deserves the world) and a good ending. 💙✨

Effy’s hair is supposed to be golden, so why is it brown on the cover? 🤨 Anyway, I hope this one turns out good!! 💙🫶🏻
