“You’re trembling, little dove. Tell me—are you frightened of me, or of how much you want this?”
With her stepfather’s abuse escalating, Lady Gwen is desperate to protect her family. So when she finds out a rake’s secret, she knows what she must do. Even if his gaze tracks her like a predator who’s already chosen his prey.
A threat is no joke. Yet Duke Victor is far too amused by an innocent’s attempt to “negotiate.” So amused, in fact, that he’s willing to give her everything she wants…as long as she spends seven nights with him.
Only one night is enough for Victor to realize his mistake. Because once he feels Gwen’s eager lips, his touch spells possession…and he has no intention of keeping her.

Gwen was trapped in an uncomfortable situation due to her mother’s choices. Her stepfather was cold and cruel and likely to have her engaged to someone equally as despicable. Her only escape was to cause her own ruin as she and her closest friends started rumors that would make her someone unworthy of suitors. She did not wish to leave her mother alone with her stepfather, so she arranged it that she might be there to catch at least some of his wrath.
Gwen had a plan to take her mother away to safety, and by accidentally catching a Duke in a moment of passion with a widow gave her an idea. Gwen decided to blackmail the Duke for money, but he made her a deal. Seven nights for a thousand pounds.
The Duke doesn’t allow himself to feel or become attached to anyone, so he gives himself no more than seven nights with anyone. Yet there is something about Gwendoline that calls to him, even when he tries to forget her.
Will Gwen escape her stepfather? Will the dark duke help her to flee? All good questions, carefully answered in a story that is just short of poetic. Five stars for a clean romance, though there is a suggestion of spicy activity.
-Lady Gwen is determined to protect her mother and avoid marriage, while Duke Victor guards his heart after a painful past. The sharp back and forth, increasing nurture trust between the pair. The relationship and connection is both tender and entertaining. The characters shine, the plot feels fresh, and the romance is hard to put down.
What an interesting read. Victor and Gwen are unusual characters with a desire for life. Both harbor childhood trauma. Their hurts trickle over into their everyday lives as adults and they seem to only run from them. Determined not to change Victor insists on his 7 night rule and is shocked to find himself struggling with keeping his Duke with Gwen! Definitely need to read this book to find out the outcome of this interesting couple,
I love this book..I will read it again and again. Two people completely honest to each other..no game playing...just heart wrenching truthful. Loved Gwen's strength and Victor finally letting go of his past. This is what true love should be about. Actually I kept looking at the page count not wanting the book to end! I can't come up with anymore suitable words except...PLEASE READ THIS ROMANTIC BOOK! Kudos of the highest order to the author!
A devilish Duke and a lady desperate to leave her abusive home leads to a seven night promise and a hope of freedom. This book tiptoes around secret meetings, messages, and friends willing to upend Tonnish rules. Seduction and hot exchanges mix with innocence and quick wit. If you like secrets, midnight meetings, a dashing Duke, and determined Lady, this is the book for you.
What a wonderful story. Gwen wants to protect her mother from her stepfather and doesn't want to get married. Victor doesn't get serious about any woman since his father was so cruel. The bantering in this story and how he comes to care for her is so sweet. You don't want to miss this great story by Ms Bennet.
I do not use such words as in my title, but it is just how I felt. I am not the fastest reader, I like to read slowly to absorb the story. This story I was pulled page by page, I’m looking forward to book 2 in (Tempted by the Duke). A unique way of grabbing your attention with a promise / proposal of 7 nights.
It took a while, but in the end, justice was finally achieved for the cruelty visited on several of the main characters as children, and wives who were treated as lesser humans, who also received their justice and happiness that had been a long time coming to those who deserved it.
Lady Gwen refuses to leave her mother in her angry Stepfather’s hands, so she must come up with a plan to leave him..but that comes with all kinds of reasons. So she looks to the one person who may help her..the Duke, Victor, and he does for a price. Seven nights …
Delightful, balanced, it has the right amount of everything and I couldnt put it down, loved the arguments, the bickering, such smart writting. Im not very good at writing reviews but if I provoked your curiosity to read this then I've succeeded. Give it a try!
Chapter 6 "Lies accure interest." Chapter 13 " You speak of love as if were a shield. I have seen it used as a weapon more often than not" Chapter 21 reader learns about the Duke's childhood -- which helps explain his lack of investment in emotional commitment. Chapter 27 no mention of her mother going home with them.
What an interesting storyline. It is populated by a number of well developed characters. Love the dialogue. Gwen is so creative. The Duke is so clever. A great match. Very spicy and little violence!
I couldn't put my Kindle down. This book wasn't like other historical romance books. I'm not saying I don't like the others because I do. I just dont do reviews. This was a different story, didn't follow the regular pattern. Very good read. the others.
A great romantic story, the characters were amazing and the storyline was greatly entertaining ,I enjoyed reading this story very much and highly recommend.
I loved this book it was well written it was different than most love stories where everyone comes together to comfort their past and close old wounds .
