After landing a coveted spot playing guitar for a popular indie-rock act, a sudden inability to play even the simplest melodies (along with a hefty dose of recklessness and a bad attitude) got her booted from the tour.
Hoping to lick her wounds in peace, Lottie delays going home, taking a detour to a coastal resort. Instead of spending her time wallowing in her latest failure, she meets Cam–a shy, handsome guest, there for his ex's wedding. Under an unspoken assumption that they’ll never cross paths again, they lean on each other as distractions during their equally weird weekends.
But back home in Nashville, Lottie’s pity party is cut short by the discovery that Cam just so happens to live in the same city. As their connection grows, so do Lottie’s doubts about her chaotic way of life. Before long, she finds herself agreeing to things she never thought possible–like turning down a good-paying studio gig to teach music to middle schoolers.
Between the regular reality checks from misfit tweens and Cam’s steady friendship, her tough exterior finally starts to crack. Can Lottie learn to play a new tune, or will she keep repeating the same old song?

OH I LOVED THIS SO MUCH???? lottie and cam are so GOOD i loved this story i loved everything about it i literally need everyone i know to read this rn!!! i was told it has school of rock vibes, which is famously my favorite movie, and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT god it really captured the heart of that movie but was completely different at the same time. truly such a great story and i can't wait to go back and cry at my highlights again!!!
i received an early copy of this book from the author but my opinions are 10000000% honest and my own!!! god i loved this
Lottie plays guitar for an indie rock band but ends up getting booted from the tour, so she decides to escape to a coastal resort to relax and reset. While on her getaway, she meets Cam, a very shy but incredibly sweet golden retriever of a man who is staying at the same resort for his ex’s wedding. They don’t expect to ever see each other again, but lo and behold, they live in the same city and keep crossing paths at the same restaurants and coffee shops.
Lottie eventually takes a part-time job at an elementary school teaching middle school kids about music, which I thought was such a nice touch. Definitely gave off school of rock vibes!
Lottie is a no BS kind of woman and I am absolutely here for it. She tells it like it is and refuses to let Cam beat around the bush. Is he asking her on a date or just talking about a concert? She makes him be clear and actually ask her to spend time together instead of skirting around it. She is very much black cat energy, while Cam is the sweetest golden retriever who would do anything to make her happy.
They are opposites in a lot of ways, but as they say, opposites attract. I really appreciated the vulnerability from both Lottie and Cam. The side characters were great, and all the conflict felt realistic, which made the story even more enjoyable.
Overall, I had a really good time reading this book. I am so thankful that the author, Jenni Mojaverian, sent me a physical copy all the way from Nashville. This Canadian book lover truly appreciates it and wants to say thank you for trusting me with your book in exchange for my honest review.
The way Jenni writes is the perfect blend of hilarious one-liners and gorgeously flowing prose. She paints a scene like that part alone is her whole job
Lottie and Cam were such a perfect, unlikely, wonderful pair. Her prickly nature contrasted his sweetness so perfectly
